Prologue
~~~~~~~~
He kneeled alone, in a church that was once beautiful. To the demon in front of the alter, it was still magnificent. He could not, or, maybe would not see the dust, the flurry of snow through the open roof. He did not see the moth-eaten curtains, the once shining mahogany benches dulled with the ages. He did not see the cushions, or the remnants of the once fine fabric.
He didn’t see a grey, dying place. The flowers in the pews longs since turned to dust, as the faded colors in the walls, the floors seemed to weep. The vast place of worship, with the main church and all the rooms for consoling, bible studies, coffee-he didn’t see that they were pale ghosts, withering without a whisper.
He still saw a huge cathedral, warm and inviting. He could feel the warm sunbeams playing through the stained glass in the front. He could still look up and see the high windows spilling clear light, all onto the faces of the joyous worshippers. Not a church for ‘old people’- a church for all, old, prim, young and blissful, with smiles -everyone.
If he closed his eyes, and ignored the quiet breeze of chilled wind, he could almost hear it all- the sound of a happy minister, saying that the Lord had saved them. You could here a family crying, as a reluctant member embraced Jesus. You could hear struggles that the church, in its entirety, would pray for. The voices of children in the choir. Little, high voices, like angels.
The wind whistled through the gap-riddled, cracked stained glass. To Kurama, it was another song starting. He looked around the sanctuary, his platinum hair gracing the floor while he kneeled. He smiled, out of memories. Instead of seeing the snow, piled on the floor in the dying winter, he saw neatly swept pews, with crimson carpets. Crimson, like the blood that had been shed that night.
His nostalgic expression faded, as he silently mourned the dead. At the same time he was lamenting the losses, he let a bitter smirk rise. They were dead, but they lived on- they had affected him. His grin still sarcastic, he thought of how he might have been, if not for Shuichi, his human counterpart. There was a name that had wilted out of existence. The human boy who had died, protecting his elderly mother, his brother’s family. So strong, but not enough, just not enough. They had left them all for dead. The worshipers, now silent. Prayers not said, any longer.
In a grave undisturbed, except by a graceful fox, the wind blew into it peacefully. One could see a stretch of graves, just outside. The names of the known carved on a white wooden cross. The wood would not rot, but the names slowly faded. Then there were the names he did not now- the simple white crosses.
Inside the sanctuary, behind the alter were two more resting places , names inscribed on the living wood. Roses grew on these graves, inside the still refuge and at peace. A mother and her son’s lover, resting in death’s sweet caress. They hadn’t died at the same time, but the vulpine demon had carried his lover here- a place that would not be disrespected. He was still shocked he had lived, while his lover, the strongest person he knew, the tough warrior- had died.
Of course, no other demon went near the old sanctuary- they were superstitious. Although it had been hundreds of years ago, many demons still remembered what had happened, that night...
The night the two worlds joined, and the night The Great War started. The war that demolished the Spirit World. The war that killed Yusuke Urameshi, the heir to Raizen’s lands.
Author’s rate, do not read if you don’t want to. It’s long. Unlike this chapter/prologue
So, what do you think? The next chapter, if I ever get around to writing it, will be about what happened. I’m really new at this, so I’d like an opinion. Yeah, the pairing is Kurama/Yusuke, and I have a faint idea where this is going ^^() suggestions would help, but it’s probably going to be about what happened that night, at the cathedral, and the war after it. Like I said-mesa newbie. Flames appreciated (If you insult me creatively I will laugh.) This was mostly to get a song out of my head- A Gilded Cage, by The Story... I honestly don’t care if the whole two-worlds combine thing has been done before; I’m just going to have fun. ^.^ Well, reviews appreciated. If I get enough (good) flames, I might even take it down! (So, if you hate it, get creative!)
Oh yeah.. I didn’t use Japanese for two reasons:
1) I’d screw something up
2 Many people do it
3) Rei-ki, to me, is a form of spiritual healing, not a world. Look it up, my aunt specializes in it, and it damn works! Um.. Why are you asking if I can count? 1..3..2..
