Forbidden Soul

Disclaimer: I do not own any of the characters, or story, of Yuu-Yuu Hakusho. It belongs to the wondrous Yoshihiro Togashi-sama who has brought something to my life that I love. So, don't sue me on that half. I do, however, claim a few of these characters in this story. Baku, Shinai, Ari, and the rest of the random people not seen in the Yuu-Yuu Hakusho Manga and/or Anime are mine. So, I'd rather you not steal them from me...and if you do, I'll have Shinai go after you. You wouldn't like that... Shinai is scary.

Author's Notes: This story is my baby. o.o; I have really no other way to start this out. I started this story two years ago when I first got into Hiei and Yuu-Yuu Hakusho. I think this is my biggest accomplishment in the fan fiction business, and I love it because of that. I have put many, many hours into this story. x.X; Probably more than what is good for my health. Since I based this story all on what information I had at the time (And a Linkin Park song...) it is a bit different. So, you could call this and A/U story. But, hopefully, it's a good one!

Warnings: I believe this chapter should be rated PG to PG-13 for some parts. To me, though, it isn't that bad. ^^; Throughout this story is a lot of bad stuff. Bad like, torture, rape, death, more torture, a bit more death, depression...and other crap. This first part isn't that bad. Believe me, I'd be telling everyone when the rape comes up. -.-;;

Dedication: I dedicate this story of Hiei's past, told in my perspective, to Sunny. ^-^; She is a great author, a hell of a lot better than me, who has an awesome 'Gravitation' story on FanFiction.net. 'Forbidden Soul: Prologue'


"...Just a little longer, Hina. It'll be all over soon..." A woman clad within a light-blue kimono and a dark-blue sash took the hand of her life-long friend, Hina. She gazed at the woman who panted, and whose face was contorted in pain. The first child was, of course, a beautiful baby girl. The second child should arrive soon for the young mother, after a half an hour wait.

The new mother's friend, Rui, gazed down as the other koorime women helped her try to calm down. Elders were lined along the walls of the birthing hut, just waiting to congratulate the new mother of twins. Little girls tried to peek inside of the hut, wondering what the newcomers of their land would look like. Some even managed to get inside to hold the baby girl.

"Miss Hina..." A young girl of the age of seven timidly walked over to the distressed mother of the baby girl. "...I think Yukina is really pretty..." Rui gazed down to the little girl as Hina smiled to the young one. "...Arigatou..." Hina gave one last smile to the girl before she closed her eyes tightly to force the pain back down. Rui looked to the girl who fled from Hina's side to join her friends that were taking turns holding the child.

Rui bit her lip as she looked down to Hina, who kept her eyes shut tightly. "It's true, Hina. Yukina is beautiful...she has your hair..." The greenish-blue haired woman looked up to Rui once again, a small smile on her lips. "...And his eyes, Rui..." The woman who lay panting on the bed had not the red eyes that her daughter possessed. Many elders found that strange, and none could figure out how...

Rui knew what it was...

A few months before her 20th birthday, Hina's mother had fallen gravely ill, as well as some of the elders. Hina took upon a quest to search for a flower in the Makai region. Many of the koorime women believed that Hina would not return, since demons prowled in the Makai. After bidding her friends and family goodbye, the young woman went down to the Makai in order to search for the plant.

Only a month after her 20th birthday, she had returned to the koorime women, holding a bundle of flowers to heal themselves with. The brown-hued girl told them it only took her a long time because of an unfortunate delay with a pesky fire demon. All of the koorime rejoiced to know that she was well, and that her children would be healthy.

The koorime women live above the Makai, or 'demon world', in a floating region of their own. They were a race of quite interest, being all of them only female. When a koorime woman became twenty, she become pregnant by means of self-reproduction. Males were not needed to this race, and they lived peacefully in their world. When the children matured enough, twin females would be born and raised.

Another enchanting ability of the ice maidens was that they could cry pearl-like gems. Their tears would slip down their face and before the tear even hit the ground, it would quickly transform into a beautiful gem. Sometimes, a woman of the koorime would be ashamed of her tears, and would cast them down into the Makai world. Because of the fragileness of a tear, they would most likely break upon impact.

After the rejoicing and celebrating of Hina's new children that would be arriving in the months to come, Rui was bestowed with information that Hina wished for no-one else to know. Rui had promised her life to her friend, and began to ask what had happened to her.

It seems it wasn't a pesky fire-demon after all...

When Hina was in the Makai, a few demons had captured her and were trying to make her shed her tears. An on looking fire-demon sprang into action and had disposed of the demons quickly. So afraid that he only killed them so he could use her tears or kill her, Hina had fainted.

Upon awakening, the demon had told her that he would not harm her, but that he only wanted her to be left alone by the demons. After resting, and being taken care of by the fire demon, she trusted him enough to help her with her search. A few months later, and the demon proposed something to her that was forbidden among the rule of the koorime. Still, being the way she was, Hina accepted his proposal.

She accepted to bear him a child.

"Oh my! I think the baby is coming!" An elder took the baby girl from the arms of one of the koorime children and tried to hush it as it cried loudly. A sharp, painful yell came from Hina and her friend held her hand tighter. A few girls at the entrance-way left, afraid at the sounds Hina was making. Another short yell and a middle-aged woman came forward to brush some sweat away from her forehead.

"Rui..." Hina panted as she gazed up to her friend. "...I loved him..." Tears welled up in the brown eyes, and as she closed them, two clear tears slipped down her face. When they dripped off her face and fell to the ground, they crystallized into two perfectly-rounded gems. Two teenaged girls from both sides of the hut walked forward and picked up the two gems, turning away to fashion them into necklaces.

Rui closed her eyes and nodded to the turquoise-haired woman, only wondering what the consequences may be for bearing a child that would be dangerous for them. A loud gasp came from the mother of Yukina, and another middle-aged woman came into view with a snow-white blanket. Young girls from outside stopped their games to look over at the birthing hut, hoping that the new-born child would be okay.

Relaxing entirely as the baby had been safely delivered, Hina left her eyes open for a moment to see the child that her former lover had graced her with. But the woman with the blanket had only covered the now-crying baby's body and face, it's mother's blood staining the fabric that had been the colour of snow. Rushing to one of the elder's sides, the astonished woman slowly unveiled the face to the elder.

Gasps arose in the birthing hut, and the children tried to look at the newborn that was drawing so much attention. The elders looked over to Hina, who rested silently now. Rui stepped forward. "Let me see the child..." One of the girls who made the necklaces for the child placed one around Yukina's neck, who was crying softly. Hesitating for only a moment, the cursed baby was brought to Rui.

She first examined the child's face as saw that it had short black hair that stood on end about an inch. In his furrowed bangs were shocking pieces of white hair that stood out against the black. Almond-shaped, crimson-coloured eyes stared out at her and she winced. The first male to be brought into the world of the koorimes...a bad fortune indeed. Especially a child that possessed the power to wield flames...

Crystallized hiruiseki fell to the ground in uneven drops, creating a small pile of gems in front of Hina's feet. The child had been taken from Rui by one of the elders and a meeting of all the koorime was with-held. The eldest of them all came up to speak in front of their clan, claiming this child that was born mere hours ago, was cursed. Rui was now in possession of the child again, this time it was covered in bandages and wards to cover his power.

"Hina. You have committed a crime that goes against our life-long traditions. This...'Forbidden Child'...is not one of our kind. Not bringing this up to one of the elders show that you have no respect for the koorime way of life. For this, both the child and you...should be killed..." When the elder paused for breath, groups of koorime women out broke in a wave of murmurs. Hina bowed down her head, not wanting this son of hers to be destroyed.

"...But, you have helped us..." The elder paused again to restate her comment. "When you traveled down to the Makai, you risked your life to save many of us...including myself. For this, I spare your life. But the 'Forbidden Child' is not to stay with us. Yukina, your child, poses no threat to us. The 'Forbidde–"

"Don't say that..!" Hina clenched her hands into fists and her eyes shut tightly, letting loose a few more hiruiseki. The elder paused to hear her excuse for interrupting her so rudely. "My child...my child is not to be called by something as...disgraceful as that..." Hina looked up, a sort of flame of rebellion in her eyes. "...The fire-demon I was with. I wish not to speak his name for his safety. Yet, when I took upon his request...I was given a name for him..."

The koorime who was stricken with grief, gazed over to the child that was held by her solemn-looking friend. "...My child's name is Hiei..." Rui nodded slowly. Hina had told her of this name before, and when the child was to be bandaged up, Rui left a small piece of parchment with this child's name tucked inside one of the folds. It was her way to reassure herself that her friend's child would survive...

"I care not the name of it!" Hina flinched as one of the more temperamental elders took a stand. "This 'Forbidden Child' is a threat to us all! It is a fire-demon, Hina. It is not one of us. It must be cast down into the Makai for our safety!" Another wave of whispers erupted from the women that surrounded her and the elders.

Fresh tears fled down her face as she fell to her knees. “Let me go with him, at least!" Her voice was hoarse and tightened with pain and sorrow. Tears flowed down her face and even more gems appeared in front of her knees. "Let me at least be the one who raises my son!" Yet another wave, this one much louder than the rest had been. A few shouts indicated that only the child should be killed, at that very instant.

"No! That will not be allowed!" The elders all took the side of the eldest koorime. Everyone knew that once someone traveled down to the Makai, that they had a slim-to-none chance of ever coming back alive. "We would rather the child die than to have you take care of it so it can come back and kill us all!" Many koorime agreed of this too, and when Hina quickly looked to her friend and child, Rui bowed down her head.

The eldest turned to Rui and nodded to the young koorime girl who held the 'Forbidden Child'. "This child will be banished, now." Rui gave her friend a heart-stricken look before turning away with the other's child. Hina fell to the floor, now closing her eyes against the pain. Her throat tightened and tears flowed down her face. How could they do this to her? To her child?!

Rui's piercing blue eyes traveled down to the boy she held in her arms. From inside a sleeve, she produced the small hiruiseki that Hina had shed when the boy was born. It had a silver base and chain, and the girl slipped it into the baby's bandaging. Taking a breath, she gazed into the almond-shaped eyes, murmuring softly. "...When you grow strong, come back if you will and take your vengeance upon me, little one..."

Hina looked upward again, only to see her friend holding her child outstretched into the cold winds. A scream came from her part and she reached forward to try and stop Rui; her hair whipping around her face. And with that, the 'Forbidden Child' of the Koorime World was cast down into the swirling mists that would open up into the demon land of Makai...

~Prologue: Owari~

So, did anyone like it? And, yes, I know that Hiei is actually older than Yukina... -.-; That's why I said that it's an A/U fic. I wrote this whole part out, then I came to realize... 'Agh! O.o; Yukina is younger~!' Ah, woe is me. I liked what I had written first, so I felt bad if I changed it...so, I left it the way it was. Please review.

By the way, this is kind of the ‘uncut’ version of my story. It follows almost exactly to my ‘Forbidden Soul’ that lives on FF.net, but the only real difference is that when the rape scene comes up, I had to tone it down a bit. So, I made an account on here so I can fully enjoy the rape of Hiei...and that sounded absolutely horrible. I’m floating away now.
