Chapter 9 Crushing Revelations
Several days later, Touya unwillingly found himself back in the infirmary. He had been subjected to morning sickness for several days but he started feeling a sharp pain in his stomach that was like nothing he had ever felt before. It had made Risho’s attack look like a mere finger poke. Jin had found out relatively quickly and when the pains got worse, he had put his foot down and made him see Kurama. Touya’s symptoms baffled him and there was little he could do except give him some herbs to try and ease the pain. It had temporarily helped. When Jin woke up to Touya vomiting blood, he panicked and him to the infirmary. Touya quickly developed a high fever and vomited up blood for several hours before finally slumping into unconsciousness. He didn’t wake up for three whole days.
“Hey Touya. How’re you feelin’” he was greeted by Jin.
“Like shit,” Touya managed to croak, slowly sitting up.
“I doan blame ya at all. It’s been a rough couple of days for ya.”
“What exactly happened?”
“Well…” Jin’s eyes nervously darted around the room. “Well I think you should wait until the doctor comes in.”
“Why?” Jin didn’t answer. “Jin why?”
“Ya know what? I’m gunna go and find the doctor. Be right back.” Jin hurriedly left. Scowling, Touya leaned back against his pillows, thinking. He knew that there was something Jin wasn’t telling him. The only reason he could think of for that was that something bad either had happened or was happening. He became scared very fast. He was dying to know what Jin was hiding from him.

Kurama stood alone in the field, reflecting on Karasu.
Pale slender hands reached out from behind and grasped his neck, not for a kill, but intimidation.
“Your hair is damaged,” Karasu whispered in his ear, running his fingers through the long red locks. Kurama gasped audibly. “Human bodies are so frail, aren’t they? You fear my touch but yet…maybe you also want to know it.”
“Get away!” Kurama yelled, swinging his first around, though Karasu easily dodged it. He jumped into the air and neatly landed next to his teammate.
“Don’t get upset. It’s only a game. You’re my favorite of the five, Kurama. Your coolness has a certain…attraction for me. When I like something, I like taking it away. Save your fight for me…okay?”
Kurama let out a long breath.
He is immensely superior to me in strength, speed, and in games of the mind. I cannot beat him. Not as I am.
“Kurama!” a voice brought him out of his thoughts. He looked up. Kuwabara ran towards him. “Hey how’re you doing?”
“I’m doing all right Kuwabara,” Kurama answered. “How about yourself?”
“I’m doing fine. Haven’t seen Urameshi around lately have you?”
“No, not since this morning,” Kurama shook his head. He heard soft footsteps and turned around. “Who’s there?” A figure stepped out from the bushes. Suzuka.
“Oh yay. The two guys I actually wanted to see,” he said in a sarcastic voice.
“What do you want?” Kuwabara demanded.
“I’ve learned from my last fight that I’m not cut out for fighting. My items cannot compete with your brute strength. No wonder you think of me as such a clown.”
Much less now than in your earlier performance. Kurama thought with a smirk. Suzuka glared at him, as if reading his mind.
“You still haven’t told us what you want,” Kurama said aloud.
“So impatient,” Suzuka rolled his eyes. He reached into his pockets and brought out two items; a flask that held the pit of some sort of fruit and the hilt of a sword. “These are my gifts to you. This liquid is the extract of the Fruit of the Past Life from Spirit World. Ura derived the smoke for his Iddun box from this. If you drink it, you’ll be able to go back to your demon form. The hilt is called the Trial Sword. It was forged long ago from a mighty cedar tree that sapped the strength of the earth around it. It became the Banshee Shriek for Shishi but for you, it’ll become something different.”
“Sounds creepy,” Kuwabara shuddered.
“There is a warning I must give you. This fight was the first time they were used. Exactly how they’re used and possible side effects are still unknown.”
“Oh so now we’re guinea pigs?!” Kuwabara demanded. Suzuka chose to ignore him.
“Why are you helping us?” Kurama asked.
Suzuka smiled ruefully. “I have a strong dislike for you but I hate Toguro. He made a fool out of me and it only took three percent of his strength. So he needs to be taught that brute strength isn’t everything. You and your team can do that.” He walked away.

Yuskue sat outside the cave where he had taken Genkai’s final test when Koenma appeared. Darkness was falling.
“What the hell do you want?!” Yuskue demanded, rising angrily.
“Take it easy, Yuskue. I was wondering how long you were gonna stay out here like this.” Yuskue didn’t answer. Koenma sighed softly. “She left you a message before she passed into Spirit World. Would you like to hear it?”
“Yes.”
“She said that the last year of her life sucked because you were such a pain in the ass as a student. She wants you to stay alive for a very long time so she can actually have some peace and quiet for a while. In other words: dimwit go win that battle. Just like her, huh?”
“Yeah. It does,” Yuskue answered, struggling to keep his emotions in check. He rose. “Hey I’ve got a message for you too, grandma.” He pointed his trusty index finger at the sky and concentrated his spirit energy into it. It glowed brighter and brighter. His body seemed to be engulfed with spirit energy. Koenma and Ogre (who had tagged along) had never seen such power before. He shot it into the sky like a cannon. “TAKE THIS YA OLD BAT!!!” It could be seen for miles around by everyone.
“Holy crap!” Kuwabara breathed.
“What power!” Hiei gasped (he was off on his own as usual). Somehow, the sight of it made everyone feel better.

The moon was full in the sky as the members of Team Urameshi continued to prepare for the finals. Hiei was off on his own as usual, Kurama was practicing with the Fruit From the Previous Life, and Kuwabara was practicing with the Trials Sword. No one had seen Yuskue since his spirit gun had shot up into the sky like a cannon. After unlocking the awesome powers of the Trials Sword, Kuwabara couldn’t help wanting to gloat to his best friend, so he set off to find him. The first clue he got was the tremendous amount of spirit energy that was rising from the beach. It was very hard to miss it. He felt the earth trembling as he got closer.
“What the heck is going on?” he asked himself. He nearly fell over the edge of the cliff as he saw Yuskue, standing below, surrounded by a huge ball of spirit energy. He had never felt so much power before. Yuskue seemed to be concentrating. Kuwabara felt his jaw drop as huge chunks of rock fell from the cliff and into the sea. He toppled forward and tried to retain his balance, but it was too much. He tumbled painfully down to where Yuskue stood. At once, the spirit energy vanished and Yuskue turned as he heard Kuwabara’s screams.
“Stupid rocks,” Kuwabara muttered.
“So did you forget how to walk?” Yuskue quipped. Kuwabara stared at him, still in shock from what he had seen. “Hey did you forget how to talk too?” Kuwabara snapped out of it and got up, grinning gleefully.
“Your bad mood won’t ruin mine. Prepared to be amazed at my super fresh bad guy slicing and dicing super sword!” he cried.
“Do you think it’s possible for you to stop braying like a donkey?” an irritable voice asked. Moments later, Hiei stepped out of the shadows, his eyes glowing red. Kuwabara jumped.
“Hey Hiei,” Yuskue said, unperturbed.
“You know, you really shouldn’t sneak up on someone who has a totally awesome sword!” Kuwabara caught sight of Hiei’s arm, cut and bruised, and cried out in disgust. “What the heck happened to your arm?”
Hiei looked at his arm, nonchalantly. “The dragon didn’t obey me when I gave it a specific order so I decided that it needed to be punished.”
Kuwabara laughed nervously. Okay he’s weird. He thought. “Way too much information. Let’s stick to something less dangerous like where Kurama is.”
“Kuwabara, I’ve been standing next to you for some time now,” Kurama said lightly. Kuwabara gave a cry of surprise and saw that Kurama *was* standing next to him.
I didn’t even sense his spirit energy! He thought.
“A bit jumpy tonight aren’t we?” Kurama teased lightly.
“Okay now where’s the old lady?”
There was a tense silence.
“She’s not coming,” Yuskue said slowly. Kuwabara stared at him. “She’s not well. She just needs some rest.”
“Oh.”
“Might I suggest we do the same?” Kurama asked. “After all, the finals are growing closer and we cannot fight if we do not have rest.”
“Yeah, that sounds good to me,” Yuskue nodded. The four of them returned to the hotel and went their separate ways, wondering what tomorrow would bring.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Touya slipped down the halls to Kurama’s room. He knocked softly on the door, hoping that the red-haired demon was there. A few seconds later, the door opened a crack.
“Touya? What’s wrong?” Kurama asked quietly.
“Can I come in? There’s something I need to tell you,” Touya answered. The door opened wider and Touya slipped in. The door was closed behind him.
“What’s wrong?” Kurama asked again. Touya stepped forward and whispered something into his ear. Kurama’s eyes widened.
“You’re quite certain?” he asked.
“Yes,” Touya nodded.
“I’m so sorry.”
“So am I.” Kurama stared at him. “I’m not as heartless as people might think. It breaks my heart even more now knowing…” he swallowed hard.
“Yes,” Kurama agreed. He pulled Touya into his arms. They shared a warm embrace, followed by a kiss. Touya was trembling as Kurama peeled his clothes away. “Are you all right? You don’t have to go through if this if you don’t want to, you know. After all, it’s only been one day since…”
“It’s fine,” Touya cut him off. “I want to.”
“All right.” Kurama leaned in and kissed him on the lips again. Their tongues intertwined. Between kisses, Kurama removed his own clothes. The kisses got more and more passionate. Panting, Touya lay on the bed with Kurama on top of him. They rocked back and forth, panting and furiously kissing and licking each other’s lips. Touya gave a contented sigh as the night wore on.
To be continued…
A/N: sorry about that last scene. I suck at writing those sorts of scenes. Review? Please?
