Hiei's Harem - Pt. 13 - Inheriting

I’m warning you now. This scene will be a long one. But very necessary.

Scene 5 ---------- Mukuro’s Chambers


* Kirin leads Hiei into the large suite. The Koorime has no qualms about entering. He’d been a frequent presence in this suite since he was named as her heir. When he sees the covered figure that’s situated on Mukuro’s favorite chaise lounger in the living area Hiei freezes. Kirin moves to the foot of the chaise. Any doubt Hiei had about who’s under the thin, black covering is put aside when Kirin bows toward it. The General then turns to look toward Hiei.


Hiei- No.. There’s no way in h--- that she’s..!

Kirin- Sir,..

Hiei- What?! Is this one of her ploys to try to get me to..?!


* Kirin moves to the side and lifts the sheet enouogh to reveal Mukuro’s blank face. Hiei blurs forward and clamps his hand over her nose and mouth. When this gets no reaction, nor does he feel any breath, he slowly pulls the hand away and drops it. He just stands staring at her half mechanical face. Again, the stretch of silence is heavy between the two demons. Finally Hiei breaks it.


Hiei- What.. happened?

Kirin- Her bio-engineering began to malfunction several weeks ago.. Our healers could do nothing but try to keep her comfortable.. Through the night the mechanics controlling her breathing finally..


* Hiei looks up at him quickly.


Hiei- Last night?!

Kirin- Hai. We found her gone this morning.

Hiei- Why was she coming here and not seeking aide somewhere?!

Kirin- She.. knew it would be futile to do that.. She wanted to see you once more.


* Hiei looks back down at Mukuro, then pulls the covering back up over her face. Internally, he’s unable to stand the odd look of calm on her features any longer.


Hiei- Why me? I severed my ties to her..

Kirin- You may have severed them.. But she never did.


* The Koorime looks back up at the taller demon.


Kirin- She knew her machinery wouldn’t last much longer before you even left.. She refused to remove your name from her books.

Hiei- What are you saying?!


* Kirin bows with his arm across his chest again.


Kirin- You have just inherited a third of Demon World.

Hiei- What?!

Kirin- She made me vow my life to seeing that her wishes be fulfilled.


* Hiei blinks at Kirin, then turns and starts toward the door.


Kirin- Sir,..

Hiei- I told her to take her heirship to h--- with her..


* The apparition freezes once more when he recalls his actual last words to her.


Hiei- I told her to.. go to h--- and make this world a better place.


* They both look toward a portal that suddenly swirls open. When Koenma steps through it, holding a box under his arm, Hiei looks away again.


Koenma- Mukuro has sent me with a final message to you, Hiei.. She told me to tell you that the task of making Demon World better is now in your hands.

Hiei- And if I refuse?!

Koenma- It may end up in a war between Yusuke and Yomi over this Territory.

Hiei- And that should worry me because..?

Koenma- Because whatever you have to protect..


* Koenma pauses for emphasis as he half glances toward Kirin. The General just continues observing silently for the moment. Hiei looks toward Koenma.


Koenma- Could be placed in much more danger if those two collide.

Kirin- Will you dishonor Lord Mukuro in refusing her last wish?


* Hiei turns to look back up at Kirin.


Hiei- You! You should be the one to take her place.. You knew her longer than I.

Kirin- That may be true.. But I’m not an idiot, Lord Hiei.. All of us know why she named you as her heir and not I.. You’re an S-Class with the potential to go beyond even that. I’m an Upper A, but I’ve reached my pinnacle..

Hiei- You can train.

Kirin- I nearly burnt myself out to reach this level.. Neither of my parents even touched B-Class.. I’ve reached my maximum. You.. I can sense it even now. You’re so close to Quest Class I’m surprised that you don’t feel it.


* Hiei turns away again. He closes his eyes and concentrates inward for several moments until Koenma breaks the silence.


Koenma- Accepting this position will break you through, Hiei.

Hiei- Why? Why should I care.. for more..?

Koenma- Stop lying to yourself. You know that you’ve always had the drive inside you to be stronger.. All demons have the same desire until they’ve reached their ultimate level.. Most die trying to attain it.

Hiei- Do you enjoy hearing yourself talk?!


* Koenma gives a nervous chuckle, then takes the box out from under his arm. As soon as he lifts the moderate-sized glowing sphere out of it Hiei senses what it is. The jaganshi turns away to glare toward the lounger.


Hiei- D--- you, Woman!


* He looks back toward Koenma.


Hiei- If you give that to him..


* He tilts his head toward Kirin.


Hiei- Won’t it boost him up..?

Kirin- No. It would blow me to pieces, Hiei.. Like Prince Koenma said, I’ve reached my level. I have no desire to go any higher nor do I welcome death.


* Hiei looks back toward the orb of Spirit energy. It isn’t long until he feels himself being drawn toward it.


Koenma- All you have to do.. is accept this sphere, Hiei.. She wants you to fulfill your destiny.


* Hiei takes a couple steps toward the sphere.


Hiei- My.. destiny?

Koenma- She says that this is the next step for you.


* Hiei stops in front of the orb. He feels the energy radiating off of it washing over him and closes his eyes.


Kirin- If it weren’t meant for you, you wouldn’t feel drawn toward it so.


* Hiei hears the General’s words. They urge him to raise his hands toward the glowing ball.


Koenma- Say it.


* Hiei’s mouth suddenly goes dry so the words he hears whispering in his mind come out stiff and scratchy.


Hiei- Come.. to me.. I.. I accept.. you.


* With a bright flash that totally engulfs the Koorime, the sphere melts into his body causing him to stumble backward a couple feet. The Prince and the General both shield their eyes as the flare intensifies, then it suddenly vanishes. Hiei feels the power surge throughout his being and closes his eyes, clamping his teeth against the awesome sensation to keep from roaring out. When he finally adjusts to the new pulsing sensations they stop. Hiei scowls as he looks back up at his observers. He automatically senses their apprehension at not knowing what to expect from his unpredictable character. Hiei slowly raises his hands and begins to cackle with mock insanity. Koenma edges back closer to his portal, but Kirin remains calm. Then Hiei stops the laughter suddenly and scowls.


Hiei- Is that it? D---, what a let down.


* Koenma nearly facefalls.


Hiei- Give the b---- a last message from me, godling.. Tell her that I said.. Hn.


* Hiei turns to leave.


Koenma- Hn?

Hiei- Hn.. That’s all she’ll need.


* He continues toward the door.


Koenma- Oh! Wait, there’s one more thing, Hiei!


* The apparition turns to look at Koenma with a bit of irritation.


Koenma- Mukuro has solved the mystery for us.. She said to tell you that when she put you in that regeneration tank, after you fought Shigure, it healed your body completely.


* Hiei thinks a moment, then scowls again.


Hiei- Now she tells me.. Then you can also tell her that I said..


* He pauses for a moment as flashes of his many children blink through his thoughts.


Hiei- Thanks.

Koenma- Hn and thanks. Got it.


* Hiei rolls his eyes and looks toward Kirin.


Hiei- Keep Alaric parked here for now. I need to go take care of a few.. things.. When I return I’ll make the formal declaration then and give her the proper funeral.

Kirin- As you wish, sir.

Hiei- Keep it under wraps for now. I’m sure you understand the importance of this, General.


* Kirin nods.


Kirin- Understood.


* Hiei then blinks out before they can spring anything else on him. Koenma gives a last glance toward Kirin, then turns back toward his portal.


Kirin- Sir, will she rest well?

Koenma- Hai.

Kirin- Tell her that it was an honor to serve her.


* Koenma looks toward Kirin.


Koenma- She wants you to give him the same devotion you gave her.


* Kirin crosses his chest and bows.


Kirin- Assure her that I shall do so.


* Koenma nods and slips into the portal. Kirin straightens up before it can close.


Kirin- Oh! Wait!!


* Koenma sticks his head back out of the portal.


Koenma- What?

Kirin- Do you think Hiei knows what he has to do to truly activate all that power?

Koenma- Activate?

Kirin- Hai. He has to kill an S-Class or higher. The orb has pushed him up to Quest Class, but he’ll not experience the full activation of that power until he does this.


* Koenma sweatdrops.


Koenma- And if I don’t tell him that?

Kirin- Like I said, he won’t achieve the full potential of his new power.


* Koenma rubs his chin.


Koenma- I’ll think about it.


* Kirin rolls his eyes and the portal snaps shut.
