Epilogue
Disclaimer: Life isn't fair... If it was, I would own Yu Yu Hakusho, and then I could use the boys any way I pleased...
The door to Hiei's cell creaked open, and the figure standing there gave an anguished, wordless cry and hurled himself across the room, coming up short of the corpse. With tears streaming down his face, Kurama gazed at his deceased friend, one small whisper containing his immense and raging emotions.
"Hiei."
With trembling fingers, he reached up and unbound the body, sinking to the ground, cradling his lost companion in his arms. From the moment they had discovered that Hiei was missing, the team had gone searching, but to no avail. No trace of the little fire demon could be found, no matter what the Rekai Tantei attempted. After about a month, the attempts were abandoned by all but Kurama.
Today, suddenly, he had been hit by a quickly fading energy signal, had traced it to this location, and had found that he was too late. Burying his face in Hiei's neck, Kurama sobbed openly, quietly admonishing his friend, though it served no purpose.
"Why didn't you listen?" he murmured. "Yusuke and I tried to tell you. You're just too proud, aren't you, Hiei? Always thinking of hiding any weaknesses. But what about the rest of us?" Kurama's voice faded even more, and was now inaudible. "I loved you, Hiei. And now you'll never know."
Lost, drowning, in his pain, Kurama never sensed another presence in the room, never saw the projectile being hurled from a dark corner of the room. All he regist was was a flaring of pain in his skull as the object connected soundly with his head, then he lost consciousness and knew no more.
A tall, lean figure emerged from the same corner and came to stand over the prone body. Taking in the thick, glossy red hair, and the manner in which he had been handling what had been one of the strongest links of the Rekai Tantei, the Goddess of nessness managed to put two and two together, and a malicious smile crept onto her face.
"Well, well, well. What have we here?"
Well, that's it for this story. How'd you all like it? Read and review, if you please. I'm thinking about writing something like this for all the boys, with our heartbroken kitsune being the obvious next choice. If anyone is interested in that, leave a review and tell me, please! Or, if you're violently opposed, let me know that as well. Thank

mz.bitz: Thank you so much for your strong support! I'm a new author, and reviews like that really help spur me on. It means so much that you like my story.
comicfancat: I'm sorry that you feel that way, but I did say that it was going to be a character death fic in my warnings. Seeing as how Hiei was really the only character in the story, it could have been deduced that I was going to kill him. My apologies.
KogasHentaiLuver: Thank you very much for being so understanding and for staying with me, even though you are somewhat dismayed at the outcome of the story. It means a lot to me that you are that interested in howplayplays out.
