It's has been so long. The ideas were there, but the writing was just not coming out right. I wrote a Loveless fic in the meantime, one-shot. Well, no further delay. I'm pressed for time right now so byebye and hope you guys like it! It's short. Just a warning.
THANK YOU TO THE REVIEWERS.

CHAPTER 4______________________________________
He held his legs tighter to his chest. The Ningenkai was amazingly quiet this year. All that could be heard was the small rustle of leaves, barely audible because of the padding created by the snow. Blank red eyes stared into the scenery. He held his legs even tighter to his chest. He wasn't cold, but he wanted to be. He wanted to feel only so he could be numb again. He didn't want to need anyone, or anything either. He didn't want to need Yusuke or Kurama anymore.

I hate leaning on people.

When had they broken through his defenses? When had they become what those foolish humans call "friends"? He had never needed assistance, never asked for it.He could still hear their uneven breaths against his ear. He could still feel their silk caresses all over his body. His dirty body. He glanced down at the light bruise on his arm. It had gone unnoticed until Yusuke asked him if he was in any pain. A look of quandary graced his face, and he looked down to see what Yusuke had focused on.

"Guess I was kind of rough..."

He was an open book now. No longer did his caustic remarks bother his fellow Tantei. For now he remained ambivalent. Something inside of him wanted this tenderness, this warmth. But something else, most probably his demon instinct, instructed him otherwise. It told that such romantic idealism was for the weak. He refused to be weak. He dug his fingers into his arms, the warm burning contrasting with the cold atmosphere. How ironic it was, to be suffering in such weather.

Just like the Koorime island.

A cold wind blew once again, lifting the loose powder on the ivory ground. His eyes followed the pattern created. He wasn't one for effusive thoughts, but he wanted now more than anything to be held. This feeling raged and battled with his feral demon instincts.

Kurama picked up the phone and dialed the number when he heard the tone. 'Pick up Yusuke...' A groggy, fatigued voice picked up, "Yeah?"

"Yusuke, I have a question-"

"- Isn't it a bit early?", the boy on the other line lazily rubbed his eyes.

"Have you done anything with Hiei?"

"Kurama, I think we both know what we do to Hiei...", his voice expressed his confusion caused by the question, thinking it quite strange.

Well, Kurama knew none of their activities were actually "done in secret". However, Hiei's behavior remained unexplained. He told Yusuke of the situation, hoping to find some clarity and understanding. He could not stop worrying about his friend.

A few minutes after he hung up, the teen arrived at his doorstep. He looked Kurama in the eye, his face beaming with his signature smirk. Only Yusuke could try to smile at a time like this.

"Well, let's go get our firebaby."

Kurama shook his head; Yusuke was truly an optimist, he could admire that. The redhead zippered up his jacket and left the house. They walked in silence towards the nearest portal, the whistling of the wind being the only thing that broke their silence. That was, until Kurama spoke.

"Yusuke..."

The detective glanced back, "Yeah?"

"Ano, about..", he wasn't exactly sure how to ask about this, "about something I saw..."

"Kurama you know you can just tell me."

It was the redhead's turn to look up. Those chocolate mousse eyes contained pure innocence. He realized how true that statement was. And Yusuke, Yusuke could never mean any harm to those close to him.

"I saw the bruise on Hiei's arm."

The teen in front of him stopped and looked forward. His shoulders sagged a bit as he exhaled. He looked into the street, "I was a bit rougher than I thought." A pause, and then he spoke again. "But I told him, and it seemed like he didn't even notice. He just stared at it when I asked about it." Another pause, his countenance was as if he was in deep thought. He turned his head back to face Kurama. "He talked in his sleep that night, about being weak.. and losing."

Kurama's eyes widened at the revelation.

"I'm worried about him too Kurama."

The two boys continued on their way, unsure of exactly how to find their friend. There was almost no point in asking Koenma for a location. When Hiei wished to be alone, no one could find him. But then again, maybe he wanted to be found.

He trudged through the padded snow with no destination. This was the self he used to be, and still longed to be. Hiei looked forward through his bangs; he sensed a presence. A hand under his cloak moved to his sword.

A demon was to be on his toes, quick to defend.

A silhouette of a figure made itself clearer. Then suddenly, heat washed over him, and everything went black.

AN: This chapter was quite odd. The drive to try to write more actually came from a review I got on my Loveless fic, saying, "I want yuyu hakusho!!!" Of course, that strangely brought a smile to my face.
