Chapter 4
I got some pretty good guesses on what happened from Katzztar. Yes, it was Kuwa’s father but I put a little twist on the whole deal with the father. You’ll see what I mean in later chapters.

Hiei-that’s what happens when you eat too much.
Chapter 4
After Kurama and Yusuke had calmed down a bit, they were allowed to see their loved ones. Yusuke was led a few stories up the pediatric wing while Kurama was led to the intensive care unit.
Hiei chose to follow Kurama so he could help him in any way he could. What Kurama saw upon entering the room made his heart clench. Kuwabara lay unconscious on the hospital bed. His chest was all bandaged up and he had a large tube sticking out of his mouth, which was connected to the respirator. He had an IV in his arm and Kurama could hear the steady beeping of the heart monitor.
Kurama took Kuwabara’s hand that did not have an IV in it and kissed it. He smiled despite the tears in his eyes, which were a mix of fear and relief. Relief that Kuwabara was still alive and fear that his heart could stop at any given moment.
Kurama found a chair and sat next to his love’s bedside still holding onto his hand, eyes never leaving his face.
Hiei looked around him and sighed. ‘This is going to a long day.’
Yusuke Urameshi entered the room that was holding the patient Dawn Urameshi. A nurse was checking the child’s IV’s and writing on her chart. When Yusuke entered she became aware of his presence and have him a gentle smile. “Hello. Are you related to the patient?”
Yusuke’s gaze never left Dawn’s form. “Yes.”
“Are you a parent?”
“Might as well be.”
The nurse looked confused. “Excuse me?”
“She’s my sister. My mother got pregnant at one of her parties and had Dawn.”
“Has your mother been called?”
“She‘s dead. She died two days after Dawn was born from complications. We never knew who the father was so I was named as her legal guardian. I named her and have been raising her ever sense.” Yusuke smiled lovingly at the child. “She’s my baby.”
The nurse excused herself and left Yusuke alone. He patted Dawn’s head and kissed her cheeks. “Dawnie?” he whispered “Dawn can you hear me?”
Slowly the girl’s eyes fluttered open, showing that they were identical to her brother’s. Yusuke laughed and kissed her forehead. “Hey baby! How you feelin’?”
The child blinked and swallowed. “Okay.” She whispered, “I’m a little tired. Where are we?”
“The hospital. You got hurt so Hiei brought you here and they fixed you up. They’re gonna make you all better.”
“Oh.”
Yusuke bit his lip before asking “Dawnie do you remember what happened? How you got hurt?”
She nodded. “Someone was banging at the door. Kurama told Kuwa to hide but he wouldn’t. Then he got scared and grabbed me and ran back to Kurama’s room. He shoved me in the closet and told me to stay quiet and don’t come out till one of you come to get me. Then I heard someone yelling, and then a bunch of loud bangs. I was so scared I wanted to run out and find you. But Kuwa had told me to stay put so I did. Then there was another bang and I felt something hit me. It knocked me back into the wall and I think it knocked me out. When I woke up I heard Hiei calling for me. My side hurt so bad but I managed to get out of the closet and Hiei came and picked me up. Then I went back to sleep.”
Yusuke kissed the fingers on his sister’s hand. “I’m glad you stayed in the closet. You could’ve got hurt a lot more if you’d run out to find me. You were very brave, I know that was very scary.”
“What happened Yusuke?”
Yusuke swallowed. ‘Oh man! How I say this to a four-year-old? I can see it now. *Well, sweetie, a crazy man came to try to take away your uncle Kuwa. He got mad when we wouldn’t let him so he took a gun and tried to kill me and your uncle Kurama. But instead your aunt Shizuru and uncle Kuwa got shot and now aunt Shizuru’s dead and uncle Kuwa just might very well join her!*
Yusuke gave his sister another kiss. “I’ll tell you later. Right now I want you to get some sleep.”
“Will you stay here with me?”
“Of course, baby. I’ll always be right her. I wont leave you.” And he crawled onto the bed with her and held her and sang to her until she fell asleep.
I’m purposely making Yusuke act different around Dawn. Come on, she’s his baby sister and he practically raised her! Of course he’s gonna act a little out of character when she’s around!
