Scene 24
Scene 24 -------------- Very Late That Night
* Hiei rouses awake in the alcove and wonders, for a moment, what has stirred him. Then he feels Sylk’s presence outside the cave. When she doesn’t enter, but instead begins to move away again Hiei opens his jagan to assure that Eboni stays asleep. He then sits up when something new disturbs him. Hiei leaves the alcove. A quick glance around tells him that Sarista had also felt Sylk. He nods and motions her to follow him. Lily murmurs, rolls over and touches the cave wall. As soon as they pass through the parted vines a pair of small squirming, mewling bodies get their attention. Sarista looks up at Hiei quickly.
Sarista- She’s running.
Hiei- Like h---.. Take care of them.
* In the next instant Hiei blurs away. He uses every advantage his stealth skills and speed give him to catch up with Sylk. She skids to a stop so quickly she ends up on her rear when he lands in front of her. Sylk recovers her feet and growls until Hiei releases a burst of his energy that quickly overpowers her. Slowly he reins in his anger.
Hiei- What in the.. bloody h---.. are you doing, Woman?!
Sylk- I’m leaving.. You’ve got my daughter, the babies,.. my pack.. You have everything you want.
Hiei- So you think it pleases me that you can abandon your own babies so easily?
Sylk- Easily?!
* As soon as she shrieks the word she raises her eyes to glare at him. Hiei can now see how wet her cheeks are. He sighs deeply and takes a step toward her. Sylk leaps back to keep the distance between them.
Sylk- Don’t toouch me!
Hiei- I promised to release you.
Sylk- You can do that without touching me!
Hiei- No, I can’t.. Fire demons require touching the mark to remove it.
Sylk- Then it will remain.
* She turns to make her way past him. Hiei stays where he is.
Hiei- You would rather go out there.. and face certain death?
Sylk- My life ended the day Tsetsuya died!
Hiei- No, Sylk. It didn’t end.. Your heart just stopped beating.
* Sylk catches a sob in her throat. She keeps her back to him.
Hiei- You kept the remainder of your pack alive all these years.. That’s not done by someone who’s dead.
Sylk- I was the.. Alpha Female.. They were my responsibility.. Now they all belong to you.
* Hiei turns to look at her.
Hiei- So do you.
Sylk- Nobody owns me!
Hiei- You’re my Alpha Female.
* For several moments Sylk doesn’t respond. Then she finally turns to look at him again with a sneer.
Sylk- Once I leave that position will go back to your beloved Fire b----.
Hiei- I know the path you’re heading toward, Sylk.. I walked it nearly my whole d--- life.
Sylk- Do I look like I care?
Hiei- No.. But I was hoping to make you understand that I do.
Sylk- Bulls---!
Hiei- If you go through the main barrier you’ll be fair game for every rogue out there.. Not all of them are pleased with me being the Ultimate.
Sylk- Perhaps I have no plans of staying here in this god forsaken region.
Hiei- Then let me release you properly so you can leave with your dignity.
Sylk- Right.. And once you get your hands on me you’ll..
Hiei- On my honor..
Sylk- To h--- with your.. honor.. I’m leaving.. Prove this.. honor.. by letting me go as you said you would.
Hiei- I said that I would release you.
Sylk- You’re not touching me!
* Hiei realizes that he’s getting nowhere with her. He slowly steps back and nods.
Hiei- I can do no more for you.. Very well, then. Go.
* Sylk studies the short male a moment, then turns away.
Sylk- When I gave my heart to Tsetsuya I promised it to him until I died.. So when death comes, I’ll welcome it.
Hiei- I.. understand.
* With that Hiei half glances toward her again then blinks away. Sylk stays planted a moment longer then turns to leave. She pauses briefly when she feels his eyes still on her. She shakes her head with a low growl and takes off. Hiei remains on the branch of the tree, watching silently with his jagan until she passes through Kumataro’s barrier. After another moment of silence he leaps away to return to the cave.
