Scene 23
Scene 23 ---------------- The Waterfall Meadow
* Sarista is still knelt beside the catchpool. Even though her eyes are closed, listening to the soothing sound of the waterfall, she senses Hiei approaching. He walks as softly as he can across the lush, grassy meadow to stand beside her. When she looks up at him, though, Hiei keeps his eyes trained on the sparkling waterfall for several minutes before he finally sinks to sit down.
Sarista- (Quietly) Terrible and grievious?
* Hiei lowers his eyes.
Hiei- Worse.. than anything even I have ever.. experienced.
* Hiei swallows and looks at her.
Hiei- I swear by my own life that none of you will ever experience that level of.. barbaric cruelty.. ever again.
* Sarista sighs deeply.
Sarista- Though your words comfort me, they will never remove any of our pasts.
Hiei- That's what it will remain, Sarista.. The past.. I can't alleviate those ghosts completely, I won't ever submit your minds to such blank, mindless control.. But I will do what I can.. what I must to preserve your safety from now on.
* Sarista looks away again.
Sarista- But you will still be leaving us to go to this.. Mukuro..
Hiei- That is my obligation as well.. I can't shirk it.. But, as I promised, I won't go anywhere until those boys are capable.. As well as yourself.
* Hiei stands and moves away some.
Hiei- Are you ready to learn?
* Sarista hesitates only a moment, then stands to face Hiei.
Hiei- Good.. We'll start by having you show me what you can do.
Sarista- I can heal.. some..
Hiei- I already know that.. I mean use your inborn abilities of fire.
* Hiei looks around.
Hiei- Stay.
* Sarista crosses her arms when Hiei zips away into the trees. In a few moments he returns with an armload of dead branches.
Sarista- I am able to keep up with your speed with my eyes.
* Hiei glances a nod at her as he drops the kindling.
Hiei- That's good.. I know that you're fast, too.
Sarista- Not as fast as you.
Hiei- Hn. That will come in time.. Now, I also know that you can do this..
* He tosses a couple of the branches aside.
Hiei- Set them on fire.
* Sarista nods, stretches out a hand, and sends a burst of flames toward the branches. they erupt into a fire that incinerates them quickly. Hiei tosses over a bigger, thicker branch.
Hiei- Now watch me.
* He lifts his warded hand toward the branch. In a moment it erupts into black flames. Sarista moves forward and leans to expect them unconcerned about the heat they're giving off. She even reaches her hand out cautiously into the flames but it remains unharmed.
Sarista- Black flames..? How..?
Hiei- you will learn.. You will also learn to do this.
* Hiei stretches out his hand again and draws the black flames back into himself. sarista's jaw drops.
Sarista- Will I really be able to..?
Hiei- Hn.
* Sarista straightens up but tries to quell her excitement. This puzzles Hiei.
Hiei- Do you not want to learn more than cooking?
Sarista- O-Of course I do, b-but..
* Hiei nods.
Hiei- Then you will learn.
* Sarista remembers his cleaned ward and takes it out of her pocket. Hiei takes it from her and puts it in place as he begins to explain how he creates the black flames. He decides to ignore her uncertainty for now. He needs to throw himself into something to get his mind off the horrific images he'd gleaned from Trinka's memories.

Woo hoo, yeah. Three chapters in one day. Go, me. LOL. That'll give you something to review perhaps. Anywho, I'm being a bit vague about Trinka's "experiences" right now, but no fear, they will be expanded on as the story progresses. Hiei's going to have a lot of "situations" to deal with. Will he keep his cool? Lose his mind? Accept his new life and responsibilities? Hmm, stay tuned and we'll see. :o)
