Chapter 2
*snorts* I’m just gonna stop looking for reviews…it’s too depressing.

Deep inside another dimension the Genius Washu was working diligently on yet another experiment. Her long spiky pink hair was tied back, keeping it out of the way while her fingers tap, tap, tapped over the keyboard in simple, yet graceful movements.
So engrossed in her work she didn’t hear the door to her lab open or the intruder’s light footsteps as they crossed the polished floor. But when she felt a familiar presence at her back and warm breath on her neck she stopped and turned to face her visitor.
“What brings you in here Tenchi? You don’t venture into my lab very often? And dinner shouldn’t be ready yet.” She turned her small face up to his with a smile.
Tenchi returned the smile, though only briefly as he kissed her forehead, a light blush dusting his own face. “I haven’t seen you since this morning so I decided to make sure everything was alright.”
Washu’s smiled widened. “And?”
Tenchi laughed and rolled his eyes. “Can’t hide anything from you can I? Little Washu?”
“Of course not, after all I am the most renowned genius in the Universe…”
Before she could go any farther in her bragging Tenchi silenced her with a kiss, his lips flush against hers, moving against them. His hands had moved to cup her face, one thumb lightly caressing her cheek. When he pulled back he was satisfied with a much quieter Washu.
“Are you ready to listen now?” Tenchi smiled.
“Yep.” Washu grinned; very pleased that she managed to get such a kiss from her lover…he was slowly overcoming his shyness. “What’s up?”
“Sasami seems worried about Ryoko…when they came back Ryoko went up to the roof and hasn’t come down since.” Tenchi’s dark eyes seemed to grow even darker in his worry.
“It had to just be more than that to have you upset…Ryoko spends quite a bit of time on the roof.”
He nodded. “I spoke to Sasami and she said they came home early because Ryoko looked tired…or shaken. She didn’t ask what was bothering her, but she came to me. It must be a little serious…because Ryo-ohki is on the roof too, even though Sasami is going to fix carrots tonight.”
Washu’s green eyes hardened just a bit…if Ryoko and Ryo-ohki were both affected by whatever this was… “Don’t worry Tenchi I’ll talk to Ryoko and find out what’s going on.” She stood on tiptoe and caught him in another kiss before walking out of the lab.
She turned to look over her shoulder as she said. “You’re a great Dad to Ryoko.” With a wink and a laugh she exited the room.
Tenchi blushed and rubbed his head in embarrassment, though he was alone now… “I guess that’s right.”

Ryoko lay stretched out on the roof, lightly dozing in the fading sunlight, unaware of the cooling air. As she was warm enough with Ryo-ohki snuggled against her.
“Oh Little Ryoko!” Washu called out cheerfully, landing lightly on the roof, not far from the sleeping figures.
“Aieeee!” Was the dual cry as both pirate and cabbit jumped high enough in the air that they fell over the edge of the roof, disappearing from sight.
Washu sweat-dropped, though kept her smile when Ryoko and Ryo-ohki floated back into sight.
“Oi, you better be glad we can fly!” Ryoko glared at the genius, her golden eyes more narrow than usual, while cute Ryo-ohki mimicked her.
“Well maybe you shouldn’t sleep on the roof darling…Aeka’s not here anymore, so there’s no reason for you to come up here to hide.”
“I’m not hiding.” Ryoko huffed and sat down, legs crossed with Ryo-ohki in her lap.
Washu smiled kindly and sat beside her, knees drawn up to her chest. They sat there in silence, save for Ryo-ohki’s soft purrs, the result of Ryoko scratching behind the cabbit’s ears. The sun had set by now, leaving only a smear of vibrant pink and orange behind.
“What do you want?” Ryoko finally asked, her eyes glued to the smudge of colors.
“Can’t a mother sit and watch a sunset with her children without an ulterior motive?”
“Yes, but you’re not most mother’s.”
Washu smiled, glad that her daughter wasn’t the total fool she sometimes portrayed…she had inherited some of her mother’s intellect. Still looking at the horizon she sighed. “What happened today?”
“Talk to Sasami have you?”
“Mmm, no she spoke with Tenchi, you know how she looks up to him, he’s almost like brother…”
“And Tenchi went to you.”
Washu nodded. “You’re family Ryoko, and we worry about you…though we seem to be a bit dysfunctional.”
Ryoko laughed. “That’s an understatement.” Again there was silence, only Ryo-ohki’s quiet breathing could be heard in the darkening light.
“So?”
Ryoko sighed, one hand going to cover her eyes as she pulled up the memory that was never far from her mind. “A man was watching me at the market.”
Washu smiled. “That’s not so unusual, you’re very beautiful.”
The ex-pirate snorted. “Yeah…anyway, this guy…I don’t know there was something about him…Our eyes met and everything, he almost started walking towards me.”
“What did he look like?”
“A real fox…long red hair that looked like it would feel like silk, green eyes that would put the finest jewels to shame. And his aura…”
“I’ve never heard you sound so poetic.” Washu commented softly, her smile shining.
“I was a pirate, I’m just comparing him to some of the finer things I’ve seen.”
“Go on.”
“His aura, was almost…not human…I mean he was human, that much I could tell. But there was something more ya know. Something hidden.”
Washu’s eyes rose to look at her daughter. “Not human?”
Ryoko nodded. “If Sasami hadn’t been with me I might have hung around to find out more…”
Washu reached over for Ryoko and pulled the taller woman into her arms. Ryoko fought for a second then relaxed and let Washu hold her. They sat there, Washu’s small hands running through Ryoko’s soft silver locks, the latter of the two just enjoying being held.
“Ryoko, you know I love you…you’re my daughter and irreplaceable.”
“I know.” The ex-pirate wrapped her arms around the smaller woman’s waist. “I know.”
“Be careful…we don’t really know what mysteries earth holds.”
Ryoko snorted then. “I was on my own all my life Mom…I can take care of myself.”
“But still.” Washu’s hold tightened. “You can come to me with anything.”
Ryoko smiled as she buried her face in Washu’s pink tresses. “Thanks.”

Kurama sat on his window ledge, staring out into the night, though the sun had long set and the sky was dark. He and Suichi had piddled around the market for a while longer that afternoon, but the younger of the two sensing that Kurama’s attention was elsewhere decided that it was time to go home.
So Kurama had taken his younger brother home, then returned to his own apartment, empty as it was.
In the past he would often find Hiei in the tree outside his window. But now Hiei spent most of his time in Makai, with Kuwabara and their children, who were turning into quite the handful. He missed Hiei but his friend had responsibilities now. Perhaps he should find someone else to confide in.
Yusuke? No…that was definitely not an option, Yusuke was inept when it came to relationships…Poor Keiko. Though their marriage was obviously a happy one considering their own two children.
Perhaps Yukina…again a bad choice, full-blood koorimes weren’t good with emotions, despite that Yukina seemed to be an exception.
…”Shizuru.” The redhead smiled to himself, Shizuru was wise beyond her years and being psychic was a bonus. Perhaps she would help.
He thought again of the woman with silver hair and golden eyes, and how when she was out of sight her aura seemed to have disappeared with her. That was certainly not a human trait. And one didn’t seem humans with such coloring very often…An image of the child with her popped into his mind. The little girl, he briefly remembered, had Aqua colored hair and bright pink eyes. Something else clearly not human…and the symbol on her forehead.
Kurama rubbed his eyes. Perhaps he should consult Botan as well, as a Ferry Girl she’d seen much in her lifetime. He nodded his mind made up, he would discover who this mystery woman was.
