Chapter 2
The Green Knight: Sorry! This one is longer! I promise!
vixenia: Thanks! And here's the next part! I love Yusuke/Kurama
kit kit: Thanks! Here's the next one!
“It’s terrible Yusuke! The worst demon in existence has escaped to earth!”
Yusuke yawned as he listened, his eyes temporarily switching towards the teenager standing beside Koenma’s huge desk. He studied him closely, standing there non-challantly in the blue uniform of the high school, pieces of reddish brown hair falling in his face as he stood there, brown eyes peering out past the strands.
“His name is Kurama,” Koenma explained and then motioned towards the teen beside him. “Yusuke I’d like you to meet Antar. He’ll be your new partner.”
“What? I don’t need him!” Yusuke exploded as Hiei stood there in silence. “Kuwabara’s my partner! I don’t need any other kid!”
Koenma’s glare caught Yusuke. “Antar is a powerful demon, not one of your typical humans.”
“He’s a wolf demon of remarkable strength,” Hiei whispered as his eyes focused on the human face, which he knew hid a demon of remarkable power.
“And I ‘specially don’t need another demon tagging along with me!” Yusuke kicked at the ground.
“You may be excused. Botan will give all of you the specifics of this mission.” Yusuke turned away, his eyes downcast as he stumbled out of the room with Botan on his heels and the two demons following at a safe distance.
Antar eyed the crimson-eyed teen appreciatively as he walked to the side slightly. “You look just like him,” Antar mused as he stood there.
“What?”
“Your father, you look just like him, Hiei.”
The crimson eyes flashed dangerously, questioning his motives for this statement.
“I was his lover once, long ago, before I found he had married an ice maiden behind my back.” Antar shook his head as he walked. “But I assume you have no such weakness.”
“What do you want from me?” The voice held a challenge as Hiei grabbed Antar’s arm.
“I want you to be careful.” Antar warned, his brown eyes flickering downwards towards the shorter demon. “Upon returning the treasures on his recent mission Koenma noticed that the mirror of dreams was cracked, most likely Yusuke’s doing. Now the mirror of dreams is the master of all bad omens. If broken it will grant the breaker unparalleled bad luck. I know many humans are not superstitious but I do know this. Just last night a group of thieves broke into the vault of destruction and stole everything in it and you’re the prime suspect.”
“Why are you telling me this?” Hiei snarled as he locked eyes with the other.
“As I said, I had once been your father’s lover so I cannot help but feel some sort of kinship towards you. Be wary Hiei. Once outside of this castle we are no longer under Koenma’s protection.
Antar sighed as he glanced down, watching Hiei, his lips slightly parted as he glanced around for any sign of danger, his mind cool and calculating. He was such a beautiful sight to Antar’s world-weary eyes but he was forced to remind himself he shouldn’t be unfair by taking claim to a demon of Hiei’s age at his age.
“Alright, let’s flatten this Kurama,” Yusuke said, his mind full of energy.
“We can begin our mission once I return,” Yusuke didn’t have time to say anything before Hiei was gone.
“Quite a friendly guy, isn’t he,” Antar said, his head lowered slightly.
“Friendly?” Yusuke scoffed as they entered into the living world. “I don’t know what the heck you’re talking about.”
“I believe it’s what you humans call ‘sarcasm’.” Antar sighed as he shook his head, like dealing with a child.
I’m being followed. That was the first thought on Hiei’s mind as he inconspicuously turned his head back towards the alleyway he had just exited. They were bounty hunters, certainly.
Antar was right; they are after me. That however didn’t mean he was going to let them capture him.
“You’re under arrest Hiei.”
“Oh really?” His eyes tracked the basic area as he stood there. He was outnumbered five to one and the narrow alleyway didn’t make his chances any better.
Each of them pointed their weapons at him and the chance of running suddenly seemed slim to none. They had backed him into a corner but that didn’t mean he was helpless.
“Go ahead, run,” one said. “I’d love the excuse to slice your head off.” He held the long saber sword out as blue eyes leveled on Hiei. These weren’t just run of the mill bounty hunters, which meant some one must want him pretty bad.
His movement was a blur until he felt the spirit energy hit him from behind, leaving him conscious only long enough to whisper ‘Damnit’.
“Bad news Yusuke!” The black-haired teen only had enough time to groan at hearing Botan’s voice as she caught up to the two boys on the roof. “I just received word from Koenma that Hiei was captured and is going to be executed in a week’s time.”
Yusuke felt his mouth grow dry. Couldn’t Koenma do something? Sure, he had never really liked the demon but he was a spirit detective. He wasn’t about to stand there while one of his teammates was killed.
The brunet beside him however just covered a yawn.
“What’s your problem?” Yusuke exploded at the demon beside him.
Antar stretched as he finished his yawn. “He should have listened,” he shook his head as he leaned against the wall on the roof of the school building. There was a crack of the door and all of them turned to regard the intruder, a teenage boy with flowing red hair, his hands in the pockets of his pink Chinese style clothing as he smiled.
“Hello, I’m Shuuichi Minamino. The teachers sent me up to find a Yusuke Urameshi,” Shuuichi smiled pleasantly as he stood there, his green eyes landing on them. “They said you could show me around.”
“Hey Shuuichi,” Yusuke stuck his hand out. “I’m your man.”
