Scene 17 ------------ Human World/Genkai's Shrine
* Kuwabara looks up from the armchair in the common room where he’s reading the morning paper.
Kuwabara- Morning, sir.
Koenma- Thought I’d check in on Staci.
Kuwabara- Yukina just went to wake her up for breakfast.. Would you like to stay? I’m sure she’s fixed enough.
Koenma- I suppose I could.
* Koenma sits down on the couch.
Koenma- So how has she been?
* Kuwabara folds the paper up and lays it aside.
Kuwabara- She told us everything that happened.. She said that Hiei had no choice but to claim her once he killed that other demon.. But did he have to go and get her.. you know.. pregnant?
Koenma- There’s so much you still don’t understand, Kazuma.. Do you know why there aren’t very many halfbreeds in existance?
Kuwabara- I figured it was just some kind of.. incompatibility thing.. Sorta like how dogs and cats can’t mix.
Koenma- In some cases, this is true.. It takes very special.. conditions for a demon to produce with a human.
Kuwabara- Conditions?
Koenma- Basically, the demon has to be at least S-Class or higher.. Such as the case with Yusuke’s ancestor Raizen.
Kuwabara- Oh.. But still, I thought Hiei hated all us humans.
Koenma- Funny thing about our little friend, Kazuma. Sometimes he’s the last one to detect his own changes.
Kuwabara- Be honest with me, Koenma.. Did he rape her?
Koenma- No, Kazuma.. It was completely consentual, believe me.. The main reason why I could take no action against it.
Kuwabara- Then why did he bring her back here and leave her? Doesn’t he care..?
Koenma- He brought her here because he does care, Kuwabara.. He knows how hard it’s going to be for a while to keep his personal life out of the public eye.. He knows that a lot of demons find halfbreeds a rare delicacy in Demon World.
* Kuwabara scowls.
Koenma- Unfortunately, he also knows how hard it’ll be for the child here, too.
Kuwabara- I know he never cared for me. But I’d never take it out on that kid.. As long as I’m alive and Staci wants to stay here they’ll both be protected. ‘Cause I’m Kazuma Kuwa-..
Koenma- I know, I know. You have a sword.
Kuwabara- That’s right. And I vowed to use it to protect the weak and innocent.
* Koenma glances toward the doorway, wondering what’s taking Yukina so long to wake Staci up and return.
