Chapter Twelve

Hello kittens! Be prepared for one hell of a chapter! My plot is about to blow its top in like the next few chappies. DO NOT hate Kurama in this chappie, okay. Love yah, kittens and review me please.

Chapter Twelve

Tai double-checked her backpack as she handed her apartment keys to Shizuru. “Okay, remember to water my plants everyday and if you feel the need to have a party, please no orgies in the bedrooms or at least avoid mine, please,” she told her with a shit-eating grin on her face.

Shizuru laughed as she stubbed out a cigarette. “No worries, I’ll just send Kazuma over. He can watch your shit for two weeks and it will get him out of the damn house. Where are you and Aki going again anyways?” she asked, noticing that Tai only had a backpack and Aki was carrying nothing more than a small duffel bag.

“We are going to a distant relatives. We try to visit them often,”
Aki answered, adjusting the strap of her bag.

Shizuru pocketed the keys and smiled. “Is this the same relative you visited about two weeks ago?”

Aki gave her a sad smile. “Yes, they happen to be very sick; one could even say that they are knocking on deaths door,” she replied, shaking her head lightly, her eyes hidden behind her long bangs.

“Oh, I’m sorry,” Shizuru started before being interrupted by Tai.

“Oh look at the time, Aki we need to go,” she told her, throwing her backpack over her shoulder and Tai pushed Aki out the door leaving Shizuru behind with nothing more than a quick goodbye.

Yomi sat across from his old friend, sipping on his best demon liquor. “Do tell me, my friend, why was this meeting so urgent?” he asked, listening for any clue from his drinking companion. There was none.

The demon across from the great blind lord smirked. He picked up his offered glass. “I am sure you already know, Yomi. There are some rumors going around and they could have deadly consequences.”

Yomi nodded in agreement. The other was right. He had known what that his friend would be dropping by the moment he heard that someone knew to much information and was not keeping it to themselves. He leaned back in his seat; a look of foreboding etched his strong features. “The grapevine had become much more knowledgeable in deed.”

The male demon brushed his hair away from his face. “That is not the most pressing issue at the moment. The information has not stayed in the Makai. It seems that the demons that live in the ningenkai have also acquired this knowledge,” he told Yomi.

“If the ningenkai has access to this kind of information then that means that . . .”

“Yes, the sprit world also has access. The demons in the ningenkai pose no threat to us but the sprit world, as you know, does,” the demon finished

Yomi couldn’t help but agree with his friend’s sentiments. The demons that have chosen a simpler life in the ningenkai left to avoid the demon politics and wars. It is not that they are hiding or that they are weak, they make their presence known and many of them are wickedly strong, but that they didn’t want to live the life of a demon and the sprit world could not stop them from coming. A cunning demon is a dangerous demon but an intelligent demon is a pain in the ass. The sprit world was another matter.

Yama would use the information in any way that it would benefit him, whether it is blackmail or murder. He was truly the most ruthless out of all of the three worlds leaders. “So tell me, what are you going to do and what role do I play in your plan?”

The walls were painted in colors of only the purest form of crimson, blood. The disassembled body parts were scattered across the room was the only things that were left of the victims. There was no fight, no struggle to survive; it marked the beginnings of a mass genocide.

***********************************************

Yomi leaned back in his chair and sighed. Yet another urgent meeting with another old friend. He was beginning to think that he was the most popular demon in all of Makai. “Tell me Kurama, how may I help you?”

The sly fox grinned at his friend. “Tell me Yomi, what do you know of the ‘x’ class and please, do not insult our friendship or my intelligence by lying either. Start talking, my friend.”

***********************************************

“No, no, no, no . . . this cannot be possible . . . it is unrealistic,” Botan mumbled, her hands gripping the roots of her hair as she re-read the file in front of her. Her breathing became frantic as she stumbled from Koenma’s desk. “How can that human girl be right?” she asked to no one as she ran from the room to find Koenma.

***********************************************

Kurama debated picking up the phone and calling her again. His hummingbird was two days late. At first Kurama had thought that she might be running late since he himself had just gotten back from his meeting with Yomi, but when she didn’t answer his call, as he required her to, he began to worry. Kurama knew that it was very possible that his hummingbird was in trouble, again.

************************************************

Aki was so tired. Every muscle in her body ached and she could barely keep her eyes open as she opened the door to her and Tai’s apartment. Aki didn’t realize that this trip would take longer than what she had originally expected. She was a week lake. Tai came home early and was with her violet-eyed lover due to Aki’s persistent, and that meant that Aki had the place to herself. Or so she thought until she saw a drunk Kuwabarra sleeping on the couch.

There were multiple empty beer bottles scattered around the room that she managed to avoid tripping over as she made her way over to her friend. She stifled her yawn as she pulled a half empty bottle from his grasp and covered him up with a blanket. Aki looked at the mess and decided to ignore it for the time being as she made her way to the loveseat to gain her much needed rest.

******************************************************

Tai watch her lover as he brushed his hair. She couldn’t help but smile at her beautiful man. When she had first meet Kaname, Tai had thought it would nothing more than a one nightstand, or a little fling. No one was more surprised at the sudden turn from sex partners in it for mutual pleasure to lovers looking for a lasting relationship than she was. But Tai couldn’t complain, the man made her feel alive and precious. While she was in Kaname’s arms, everything faded and nothing mattered but the two of them.
Hell, she even had to leave Aki early because of him, even though she let the girl think she was resisting all the way, but she know differently. Tai knew that she had made a promise to stand by the girl for saving her but she didn’t know how much longer she would be able to help Aki. She wouldn’t lose her Kaname, her new love, not even for her closest friend.

******************************************************

Koenma woke up to the sudden pounding on his bedroom door. “What the hell?” he demanded, throwing the door open giving George his most sinister glare. “Why in the hell are you waking me up, you moron? This had better be important.”

George grimaced. “Well sir, we just received some news from Makai that I thought you might want to hear immediately.”

Koenma’s eye’s narrowed. “Please don’t tell me what I think you are going to tell me, George.”

“The report was from the Lady Kayu. It seems that yet another six clans of blood dragons were murdered within the last two weeks. Sir, they are screaming for blood,” George told him, backing away slightly from Koenma.

Koenma didn’t know if he wanted to scream, yell, or cry. This was awful. He had known that things were going to well and now if the blood dragons decide to attack Makai and the Sprit world, there would be nothing to stop them. Not even Yusuke could handle that bunch of son-of-a-bitches. “Call for another meeting. I’ll see if I can’t buy us some time,” Koenma ordered, slamming the door with enough force to rattle the rest of the doors in the hallway, not even noticing that his beloved was missing.

******************************************************

Kuwabarra squeezed his eyes shut in the hopes of blocking the morning light with no prevail. Damn, his head was killing him.
Maybe he had had a few too many beers. He sat up, groaning as his head began to throb harder. “Oh, hell, kill me now,” he mumbled, making his way to the bathroom.

When Kuwabarra made his way back into the living room, he noticed that Aki was curled up in the loveseat, her blanket twisted around her. He watched as she buried her head even farther in her blanket trying to sleep as long as possible. He grinned at her wickedly, his hangover forgotten for the moment. He slowly crept over to her and jerked her blanket, pulling her into the floor.

Aki moaned in pain as her back came in contact with the hard floor and Kuwabarra’s beer bottles. “Damnit, Kuwabarra, you bastard,” she cursed.

Kuwabarra looked at her shocked. He had never heard the girl curse, ever. Kuwabarra grinned at her wickedly. “Is someone not a morning person?”

Aki glared at him. “Are you trying to kill me, Kazuma?” she asked, pulling herself to her feet.

Kuwabarra looked at the floor and saw his empty bottles. “Oppose, sorry, I really didn’t think that plan out to well,” he mumbled, grinning like an idiot.

Aki sighed and stretched her back. “So, explain to me why you decided to get utterly drunk on my couch,” she told him, walking to the kitchenette to fixed something to eat.

Kuwabarra winced slightly, following her and sitting down at her table and graciously accepting the glass of orange juice she handed to him. “Can I not just get wasted off my ass?”

Aki turned to him and smiled. “Sure, when you aren’t upset about your tinny lover.”

Kuwabarra felt the tears that had threaten to fall for weeks well up behind his eyes. He quickly turned his head. “There is nothing to talk about. He left and that is the end it and he is not my lover,” he mumbled.

Aki sighed. Time to have a little self-confidence chat. “I have not spoken to any one about what actually happened between you two.”

Kuwabarra turned to her, his eyes filled with pain. “No one knows what actually happened, well except Shizuru because she heard the whole argument. We were lying on my bed and talking like we usually did. That night we, well I was talking about the future and brought up the mating ritual that Urameshi had told me about. I said that someday that would be nice. He . . . he told me that I . . . I’m not good enough to be his mate. He said that since I am human that I was not worthy of such a title or honor. I told him that if I am good enough to fuck, then I am good enough to mate. The argument escalated and I told him to leave and never come back. He grabbed his sword and walked out the door without so much as a ‘stupid baka’ and we haven’t spoken since,” he finished, fighting the urge to just give in and cry.

Aki looked at her friend with sorry eyes. “I don’t know what advice I can give you. I can’t tell you that it might just blow over because things with Hiei never do, or so I am told, and I can’t tell you that he’ll come back and beg for you forgiveness. I do know that I can tell you that he is a fool for leaving you and considering you beneath him. Kuwa-kun, you are every bit his equal and if not more so. You are one of the bravest people I know,” she told him, putting her hand on his shoulder, offering him what little comfort she could give the heartbroken man.

Kuwabarra smiled at Aki. The girl really was a rock behind all of that shy exterior; a one of a kind friend. “Thank you. I needed that.”

“So, what are you going to do now?” she asked, walking over to the refrigerator and pulling out a carton of eggs.

Kuwabarra rubbed the tears out of his eyes. “I am going to take a shower, watch old movies, cry myself to sleep, and find another love.”

Aki gave him her biggest and sweetest smile. “Whatever works, Kuwabarra. Whatever works and if you want a friend to watch give me a call.”

*****************************************************

“I am sorry, but I can not talk to you right now but if-“ Kurama slammed the phone down as Aki’s cell phone message came on again. His nerves were shot with worry. The fox had not sleep for days, nor had he eaten a proper meal, because of his distraction. He didn’t know whom else to call but Tai and she was with her.

Kurama stood up and jerked one of his hands through his hair while grabbing his wallet and keys with the other, walking out the door. He needed a break. The fox walked down the street, paying no attention to his surroundings or where he was going. Kurama was used to his little slave leaving him for a few weeks at a time. In the entirety of their six-month agreement, she had left a total of ten times. But she had only missed one of his phone calls and that was early on. He was distraught and confused and that was not a good combination for any kitsune.

Kurama was brought out of his musings by stumbling over a chair from a sidewalk café that was conveniently placed in his path. “Mother-fucking-son-of-bitch,” he muttered, trying to untangle his legs from the chairs legs.

When Kurama finally got untangled, a stranger offered him a hand up. “You should really pay attention to where you are going, Kurama.”

The youko looked up from his sidewalk seat. He was shocked to say the least. “I had thought that you had disappeared, Sniper,” he spat, shoving himself off the ground, rudely avoiding the hand offered to him.

Kaname smirked at the defensive fox, who was reaching a hand to his hair. “I see that you are still as polite as ever, Kurama.”

Kurama sneered at him. Before he could counter the insult with one of his own, he saw Tai walk up behind Sniper. “Tai, what the hell are you doing here?” he asked, his mind trying grasp the situation.

Tai stared at the two men, a look of puzzlement crossing her face. It looked like they were about to throw punches. Kurama was in a defensive stance, while Kaname had reached into his pocket, fingering the change he kept there. And Aki thought that she attracted all the trouble. “Hello Kurama, what’s up?”

Kurama backed away from the two, watching as Tai wrapped an arm around Sniper’s waist. “Why are you with him and where is Aki?” he demanded.

Tai looked over Kaname’s shoulder. “Ummm . . . Kaname and I are lovers and I have no clue where Aki is. I can’t keep up with the girl. Did you try to call her cell?”

A cynical smirk crossed Kurama's face. “Of course I called her cell phone, I am not a fucking idiot and your “lover” happens to be a fucking criminal and is wanted by the sprit world. He disappeared before Koenma could detain him.”

Kaname frowned and Tai just got pissed. “Okay, asshole, you aren’t an idiot but you are acting like a walking dick and for your information Kaname’s name has been cleared,” Tai retorted, her temper overriding her ass.

Kurama went from pissed to suspicious. “How would you know something like that, Tai?” he asked, his hand reaching for his hair.

Kaname dragged his hand over his face. Oh hell, this could have gone a hell of a lot better. “I was informed about it directly from Koenma, Kurama, and unlike you, I do not keep secrets from those I care about.”

Tai sighed in relief as Kurama stormed off in a rage and turned to Kaname. “Good cover, lover,” she muttered, curling up to his chest, relishing the feel of his arms around her.

“Yes it was, wasn’t it,” Kaname replied, smiling smugly as he hugged her tight. Suddenly he let go of her and pulled away, a frown coming across his pretty face. “Why would Kurama be looking for Aki?”

Tai stared into his eyes, her expression mocking his own. “I have no fucking clue. It can't be good, that is for sure.”

***********************************************

As Kurama made his way to Tai and Aki’s apartment, his anger continued to grow and fester. His hummingbird, his sweet and innocent, precious hummingbird had been ignoring her master. This was beyond expectable and she would be severely punished. The youko took a deep breath to calm his nerves. It didn’t work.

When Kurama got to the apartment building, he saw Kuwabarra leaving, waving up to one of the balconies with that goofy smile of his. Kurama looked up and saw a rumpled Aki leaning against the railing and waving back at him. Our fox boy saw red. He bridkley turned around and walked away. He had plans to make for the night and they had nothing to do with his hummingbird.

***********************************************

Aki smiled as she closed the door behind Kuwabarra. She couldn’t help but laugh as she thought of how within the next few months Hiei would be on his knees begging for forgiveness. Yep, life was funny that way.

As she made her way to her room to gather her things for a quick shower, Aki saw that her cell phone was sitting on top of her backpack. The young girl frowned as she walked to it. Aki couldn’t help but wonder why her master had yet to call her for an explanation. She was late and her master had yet to call her. She was late and her master did not tolerate any kind of lateness very well. Aki picked up her phone and looked at the screen, noticing that it was blank. Aki tried to turn it on but nothing happened.

Her hands began to tremble as she realized that she had let her phone go dead. She started throwing things onto the bed to look in the floor for her charger. “Where is it?! Oh, I am in so much trouble,” she muttered frantically, making a mess of her once perfect room.

*************************************************

Kuwabarra couldn’t help but smile at Aki as he made his way back to his and Shizuru’s house. As he turned around, he saw Kurama storming away. “What the hell is going on?” he yelled in the street to no one in particular.

***********************************************

Kurama sipped on his beer, scanning the room for any potential . . . talent. After he had gotten to his apartment,
Kurama allowed his anger to take over for hours. After he had finally gained his cool, the century old fox decided that he needed a break, or at least a way to release his building anger, and that is how he ended up at one of the sleaziest bars he knew off.

Kurama looked up from his drink as a tall, skimpy brunette slide into his booth. He turned to his new guest. “Can I help you?” he asked, bringing his drink back to his lips.

The brunette laughed prettily, moving closer to him and causing her breast to thrust out. She leaned her head next to his ear. “Mmmmm . . . I don’t know if you met my qualifications, pretty boy,” she muttered, flicking her tongue against his ear lobe.

Kurama smirked at the audacity of this bold human trying to seduce him. He turned to face her to look her over. She had shoulder-length brown hair and brown eyes that complemented a beautifully structured face. His eyes moved lower, noticing she was leggy, with large breast, a small waist, and round hips. She was definitely the youko’s type, hot, willing, and never seen again. “You show me your list and I’ll show you mine.”

***********************************************

Aki ran to her master’s apartment. She was in deep shit. When she was finally able to get her phone to work, she found twenty messages from her master, which was not normal. He was really worried about her. He had only ever left one other message since the beginning of the relationship, and it was to tell Aki that when she got to his apartment that she had better be prepared for one hell of a punishment.

Aki sighed as she ran up the many flights of stairs. After only two days, her master had stopped leaving messages and she couldn’t help but worry. He was anything but predictable.

When she finally reached the top of the staircase, her breathing was labored from her rush. Aki walked down the hallway and turned down another, smiling as she saw her master’s door at the end of the hallway. Before she could take her first step towards it, her heart stopped in her chest. Out of nowhere appeared her master and he was pressing a beautiful woman against his door.

Blood Illusion: I am so glad you liked it and Koenma so needed a rest. I am in the process of reading a book that sucks because there is no plot build-up and this story is my experiment to see if I can actually write books. I hoped I fixed my little mix-up. If you want to give me your e-mail address, I will e-mail you! Enjoy it!
