The Unread Letter
Heh, heh, this is kind of an apology for not being able to update ‘Model and the Bass’. I didn’t plan on posting this until next Thursday and add another chapter to ‘Model and the Bass’ last Tuesday, but realized that I had started posting ‘Executive’ from which I had gotten a lot of my ideas for the other story, and makes more sense in ‘Executive’ so I might have to go back and rewrite some of ‘Model and the Bass’. I have absolutely no idea as to how long this will take. Once again, Sorry! Please don’t hurt me.

Chapter Nine: The Unread Letter
*****
If quitting school was an option, Kurama would have done it in a heartbeat. He couldn’t face seeing Hiei again, and know that he had hurt the boy the most in his entire life. After all those years of being alone, making sure that no one ever got too close to him, but for some reason Hiei let Kurama into his heart, and all he does is crush the most precious gift he had ever received.
The redhead sat on the mattress, staring out into nothing while stroking the fox Hiei had won for him on their first date. He couldn’t even bring himself to cry anymore. It had been a month since that disgusting Takashi told Hiei about their secret outings after school. He would be receiving letters about colleges soon, and then he would have to go to college if one of them gave him a full scholarship. If it was far enough away he could leave and never see Hiei again… he wouldn’t have to worry about running into the only person who had ever taken the time to get to know him, to actually love him, and let Kurama love him in return.
He smiled softly when his eyes fell upon the picture of Hiei and himself. He had shoved Hiei into one of the picture booths at the mall, and used to the first three shots trying to get Hiei to smile, and when that failed he used the last picture to embarrass him with a deep, hungry kiss. Hiei had been pretty mad about that too, but there was a pink tinge on his child like cheeks the entire time.
The two had some great memories no matter how many times they fought or argued, which had been the one time, but Hiei easily forgave him, but this wasn’t going to be resolved with a dinner…
Kurama let out a heavy sigh before laying out on mattress, holding the fox as tightly to his chest as possible. He was amazed he had squeezed the stuffing out of the poor thing after how he had been holding it for the past month every night and day that he wasn’t in school.
“Hiei,” he sobbed softly, but no tears fell from his eyes, but it was hard to tell since he buried his face in the fox again.
He had to get out of the warehouse, had to get away from the memory of Hiei’s lips, but at this point there wasn’t a place left that Kurama hadn’t kissed or tried to grope the once virgin Hiei.
*****
Hiei sat in his room, alone, playing with the small dagger he had gotten from the fool who was now sporting a broken arm. The edge was perfectly sharp, and the blade was shiny, obviously new. The hilt was perfect, beautiful, a brass with a scaly design, and a tiger eye design on the end.
‘Can’t believe I did that. Stupid fucking idiot! He ran away fucking crying because of me. What’s wrong with me? I had the only person I ever cared for in my arms, in my apartment, in my bed…well, technically, the floor.’ A small smile slips on to his lips as remembered the feel of being filled by him.
He let out a heavy sigh. He had broken just about everything in his apartment within ten minutes of getting home after leaving Kurama with that fat bastard. Now he was left in his solitary confinement in his trashed room, pressing the shiny blade to his wrist. There’s no point in anything since he’d left Kurama. ‘God, and whose fault is that? It was easy to see he wants to be with me again, but what if he lied to me again and went out with the wrong guy? He’d end up dead, and I’d be alone all over again.’
The cold steel felt good pressed into his skin. It was on the verge of piercing his skin. ‘Who am I kidding?’ He let the dagger fall to the mess at his feet. ‘I’m too stubborn to die.’
He looked over the trashed room, and didn’t ever remember going into the bedroom. There were too many memories…
…..“Ah-choo!”
“You idiot,” Hiei growled before sniffling, “I can’t believe you got us sick.”
“I didn’t hear you complaining at the time.”…..
The two remained sick for almost a month after that because they kept giving the cold back and forth, which left one to take care of the other.
He looked over at the fish he’d won for Kurama on the first date, but thought it too much a bother to make Kurama carry over to the warehouse he was probably still living in. He stood from the damn bed that he and Kurama had once shared and made love on multiple times. It wasn’t even until recently that he had learned how to be seme. The greatest feeling that Hiei had ever felt, to have Kurama under him, to be inside the intense heat, the amazing trust he felt that Kurama had wanted him to be on top.
He recalled the feeling of betrayal as he heard Kurama, or rather didn’t hear Kurama's denial of Takashi’s words. Rage…. He knew this feeling better as he picked up the knife and threw it at nothing at all, stabbing the defenseless wall. Taking several heavy breaths, Hiei walked out of the room, passing the kitchen where Kurama had taught him how to cook, which he improved upon a lot, now he was able to make better meals than Kurama, who was focusing more on his school studies.
Kurama's kisses, his touches and caresses, his tender voice, soft skin, sweet mouth were all gone now. There were no loving arms to bury himself in when he felt that he needed the love of anyone… He wanted those arms, but couldn’t stand the thought of his redhead in another man… or woman’s bed. No matter how angry he was at Kurama, he would always love him and long to be with him, in him, anywhere near him. It almost scared him how easily he was willing to forgive the redhead. He had never felt this before. He could get through anything, even Kurama's misdoings as long as he was in those long arms.
*****
Kurama played with the red rose that he bought every week or when the previous rose wilted. He had bought five of them since his fight with Hiei. He only needed two from their first fight. This was rather distressing to his lonesome body. He felt that he would explode if he didn’t find release soon. It would be easy enough to find someone on the street, or even get someone to buy him for the night, but all he wanted was Hiei. Even physically, the still learning Hiei was so cute and shy the way that he tried to pleasure Kurama that is made it even better to know that Hiei was trying as hard as possible to learn what Kurama liked and didn’t like.
He would do anything to have Hiei back, but he had to know that Hiei wanted him back.
‘Dear Hiei,
I am so sorry for the betrayal I have done, and the pain that I have caused you. Please understand that I did it for you, but I’m sure that’s not what you want to hear. I love you so much, I can’t deny that and neither can you. I couldn’t stand the thought of you taking on work that you didn’t want to do just to be with me. I know that you would have done anything, and I was worried that you might strain yourself too much. I care for you deeply, and I hope that you find it in your heart to forgive me in someway.
You are the first person to show any care for me other than my body, and I know that I messed up, but I just wanted to help, and this… that was the only way I knew how. Give me one more chance and I swear I will never do you wrong again. I’ve missed you so much; your strong arms, your amazing heat, those gorgeous eyes of yours, your amazing wit and intelligence, though you don’t even know how smart you actually are, and I miss… I miss being with you. Your presence has the ability to make me happy. Just being near you is all I need.
I’ll be going away to college soon, and I could never leave with out knowing what might have been between us, especially since our connection was so strong.
I know that you would never forget me, but I also know that I have caused you unbearable heartache. If you still want to be with me, even if it’s not anytime soon, please bring this rose to me after school on Monday. If you can forgive me, or find it in your heart that you might forgive me some day, and think that we could be together again, I swear that I will never betray you. I have already quit everything, and will never return to such things. Please, I need you so much, Hiei. Please forgive. Please let me know that you still love me. Even if you don’t want to be lovers anymore, I don’t want to lose my friend.
Love you always and forever,
Shuuichi ‘Kurama’ Minamino’
Letting out a heavy sigh, Kurama sealed the envelope and taped it along with the rose to Hiei’s door.
With a sad smile he went back to his solitary bedroom.
*****
Monday morning came about and Hiei wasn’t in front of the school. Kurama knew it wasn’t possible, but he had still dreamed that Hiei might be there in front of the school waiting for him. He paced himself through the school day, and nearly had a heart-attack when the final bell rang.
Kurama nearly ran out the door, which surprised the teachers who were accustomed to having him ask for extra credit, which he had no need for or if they needed any help with cleaning up the room. He had to find Hiei and get this all over with.
Hiei was leaning against the brick wall that made up the fence to the school, looking rather bored as he inhaled his cigarette. A sad look creased his features as he saw Kurama, but there was no other movement to reveal a possible hidden rose, or a show of care that he was saying that they were completely over. It was the same sadness he saw everyday after school. Nothing was left… Nothing…
“Hiei,” he choked, covering his chattering mouth. He couldn’t believe it, Hiei had no need for him anymore… Maybe sex was all he had wanted, and he had gotten it, now why keep the filthy whore around. There was no hope left in Kurama's heart before it shattered in his chest. He could feel the shards sticking in his internal organs.
A shudder went through Hiei’s body as he saw Kurama actually burst into tears and run away. The need to comfort Kurama for whatever reason he was crying had been overwhelming, but it wouldn’t look right in front of the gang to see why the redhead, who had left him, ran off crying.
“Yo, Hiei, you going to be staying at my house again?” Kagami offered.
“Nah, I’m going to try to clean up my own rat hole.”
“You can stay at my place again anytime,” Hisashi offered.
“Imma have to get used to my place again after I throw out all the shit that I broke,” he shrugged, still half watching the direction in which Kurama had run.
*****
Was this some kind of threat? Hiei pulled at the dead rose that was attached to his door along with a letter. Glaring at the suspicious paper, Hiei recognized his name written neatly across it in Kurama's handwriting.
‘Dear Hiei…’
Oh, no… Hiei’s heart was racing as he read the last paragraph. That was why Kurama ran off crying. ‘Shit! Shit, shit, shit, shit, shit! God damn it!’ Hiei cursed himself. Grabbing all the money in his wallet, Hiei ran out the door.
*****
The redhead sulked about the park until night fell. Finally relenting, he made his way back to the lonely abandoned warehouse. That was odd, there was a little bit of light coming from his room. He hadn’t left the light on in his room…
The smell of delicious food and scented candles pulled Kurama faster to his ‘bedroom’ where he found the most glorious sight ever.
A trail of wild flowers led Kurama to the bed that was surrounded by rose and vanilla scented candles, which led Kurama's eyes to travel over the two plates and glasses of wine on the bed accompanied by a shorter boy with a single rose.
“I wanted to get you a dozen roses, but couldn’t quite afford it.”
“Hiei,” Kurama choked again, tears springing into his glorious emerald eyes.
“What the hell are you crying about now?” Hiei nearly screamed.
“You… you have no idea… h-how happy you just made me,” he walked slowly towards Hiei, afraid that it was all a dream that his over active imagination was coming up with.
“Yo, Red! I saw your light was on…” a tall, skinny, pale boy stood in the doorway, “Oops, am I interrupting something?”
“Stop calling me that! Right, Kuronue, meet my… boyfriend?” he turned wondering eyes on the apparently angry boy.
“Who is he?” he nearly hissed.
“Hiei, don’t you dare jump to conclusions,” Kurama returned the glare.
“Sorry,” he actually apologized for the first time in his life.
“Mm, thank you, now then, this is my friend, Kuronue, who will now be leaving now, right?”
“Yeah, sure, see you around, Red,” he waved quickly, getting away from the obviously mean shrimp.
“Stop calling me that!” he shouted after his friend’s retreating figure, which went, unseen, in the dark corridors of the old building.
“Kurama,” he used one finger to turn the redhead’s attention back to himself, “I wasn’t in the apartment for the past week so I didn’t get your letter until this morning.”
“Oh,” he had forgotten that pain the second he saw Hiei in his bed.
“I… I want to be with you, but I can’t stand the thought of you… with… with anyone else.”
“I told you that I stopped, I won’t go to anyone else as long as I have you, and you are mine as well.”
“Hn,” Hiei nodded before pulling the redhead into his lap and rested his forehead on the taller boy’s back. The two sat that way for a few minutes before Kurama commented that the food was getting cold and the wine warm.
Another grunt from Hiei, and the two ate dinner a little nervously, not sure what to say now that they were back together.
After eating, Kurama set the dishes next to the bed, and moved closer to Hiei, intent on finally touching those warm lips again, and being held in the strong arms.
“Ugh,” Kurama pulled away, covering his mouth, “I don’t think that garlic chicken and pasta was the best choice in make up meals.”
“Shut up and kiss me,” he grabbed Kurama and shoved his tongue as far down the pale throat as possible.
“Mm,” Kurama smiled softly as the two laid on the bed, holding one another gently. They didn’t have sex, but they did spend the night talking softly as the candles around them started to die out.
“Shouldn’t you get some sleep?”
“Mm,” he cuddled closer, rubbing his cheek against strong chest, “I’m not tired.”
“You have class in the morning.”
“But we just got back together.”
“Good night, Red.”
“Don’t call me that,” he mumbled before slipping into content slumber now that he was with Hiei, his lover scent wrapped all around him.
