Hiei's Harem - Pt. 1 - Establishment

Scene 11 ------------------------------------------- Back At The River


* Sarista watches Hiei move to the blackened area where the drying rock once was.


Hiei- You say you're a full blooded fire demon, hn?

Sarista- Yes.


* Hiei glances over his shoulder at her.


Hiei- You could have made that b------ look like this.


* When Sarista tilts her head to show her incomprehension. Hiei looks away and moans inwardly. Then understanding dawns on him.


Hiei- Then you weren't allowed to use any of your powers.. to protect yourselves?

Sarista- I use them.. domestically.

Hiei- I see.. So the old man only allowed you all to be perfect little b----es, but nothing more.


* Sarista rolls her eyes and sighs.


Sarista- I accepted my place as a slut a long time ago.


* Hiei hesitantly looks toward her again, but she looks away and refuses to meet his eyes.


Hiei- While he was alive I understand that you had to live by his rules.. No doubt he had rather.. persuasive ways of asserting his authority.


* Sarista shrugs slightly.


Sarista- Gamock was very.. active with us.. But this past year he was finding it difficult to.. become aroused.

Hiei- And he would no doubt blame this on all of you.


* Sarista is quiet a long moment.


Sarista- If it weren't for my healing ability we would have lost more than one of your females.

Hiei- How old was that cretin?

Sarista- he never said. We never questioned.. We just kept our place and did our best to survive.

Hiei- No demon is content with being so suppressed.. I've seen too many unwilling servants go insane and end up dead.. I can only imagine that one of your heritage was at the end of your rope.


* Sarista glances around then moves to touch Hiei's shoulder cautiously.


Sarista- Come, let me show you my favorite place.


* Hiei watches her walk off a moment, then follows her up the path that runs alongside the river. In a few moments they reach a wider area of the river. As Hiei follows her into the haven-like clearing the main thing that catches his attention is the wide, double-leveled waterfall that spills into the deeper basin that forms the head of the river.


Sarista- I found this area not long after Gamock moved us in here.. I remember watching the water come over the rim of the canyon there..


* Hiei watches her motion toward the waterfall as she moves to sit down near the river's edge.


Sarista- I envied this water so much.. back then.

Hiei- Envied.. the water?


* He goes over closer to look into it's nearly crystal-clear depths. Sarista looks down the river.


Sarista- The water is always allowed to flow so freely.. To leave this ravine.


* Hiei looks back down at her a moment, then nods and turns away.


Hiei- If you wish to leave I won't stop you.

Sarista- Those desires were squashed so many years ago that I barely remember what they were like.. There is the other end of the servial spectrum, M'Lord.. The side where you've lived this way so long that you know no other way to exist.


* The Koorime stays frozen. Sarista looks up toward him.


Sarista- You said that you understood what authority and loyalty were.

Hiei- Hn.

Sarista- My loyalty lies first with you, of course. But the other girls have come to rely on me, also.. I've delivered their babies, healed them and their children when I could.. Took the brunt of Gamock's temper when one of them became the object of his anger.


* When she falls silent Hiei's mind recalls his own younger days when he was raised by the gang of bandits. A distant part of Hiei, that he hasn't allowed to surface for many years, completely understands Sarista's words. Quietly he turns back around and moves to sit down beside her. She looks at him.


Sarista- I accepted your mark willingly.. I also accept your authority.. If you wish me to leave I..

Hiei- And just what do you think would happen to you?


* She looks back down into the water.


Sarista- I would lose the baby.. In a few weeks I would follow.. Unless of course we were discovered by a carnivorous rogue first. In that case, I..

Hiei- There is no way in h--- that I would do that to you.. Not as I am now.. Then there's no way that I can just.. release you.. without any loss of life?


* Sarista half glances at him.


Sarista- No.. Not as long as you continue to want to live.. Don't you know that demons mate for life?

Hiei- I never had a reason to learn any of this s--- before.


* Sarista meets his eyes with a smirk that rivals his own.


Sarista- I hope you'll be around long enough to learn.. everything you'll need to,.. Master.


* When she leans toward him, Hiei draws back some, then stills and allows her warm, soft lips to capture his own. The kiss is tentative at best. Sarista feels Hiei's uncertainty and pulls back.


Sarista- You're not much on sharing affection, are you?


* Hiei looks away.


Hiei- You already know the basics of the story of my life.. Fighting to survive every moment of every day for the first fifty or so years of one's life doesn't leave much time for being.. soft.


* Sarista sighs and leans to place her head on his shoulder.


Sarista- (Quietly) Take care of us.. Protect us.. That is all that I will ask of you..


* Hiei snorts sarcastically.


Hiei- From what that son of yours has told me, it sounds like you were all only used as baby factories.


* Sarista shrugs.


Hiei- Which brings me to another question.. If the.. seven of you come into your heats every two years.. why isn't the clan larger?


* For several moments Sarista doesn't move. But finally she sits up away from him, keeping her eyes lowered.


Sarista- I, myself, have born Gamock twenty children.. The majority of them were males.. Gamock used most of my sons and all of my daughters for his own monetary gains.. I guess I am thankful that he sent the girls away..

Hiei- Thankful? How can you..? That monster sold his own children!


* Sarista glances at him.


Sarista- Remember our main purpose?


* At first Hiei keeps his scowl, but then her meaning sinks in. His eyes widen and he looks away to swallow thickly.


Sarista- As rough and cruel as Gamock was, I am at least thankful that he was repulsed by breeding his own daughters.. The sons were sold for whatever we needed to travel.

Hiei- But he kept those four..

Sarista- He was.. saving them for.. special purposes.


* Hiei shakes his head.


Hiei- The more I hear of that b------ the more glad I am that I killed him.


* Sarista looks at him.


Sarista- Don't celebrate too quickly.. Just remember that you are now in his position.


* Hiei narrows his eyes to glare at her until her words sink in. The realization hits him rather hard and he looks away again, leaning on his warded arm to keep himself upright.


Hiei- Y-You.. think.. that I would just..?


* Sarista looks at him quickly and leans away from him some.


Sarista- Please tell me that you are not prone to..


* The Koorime gathers himself and shakes his head with a growl.


Hiei- No! It's not that I've never heard of such a practice.. H---, there's not really any law against such an act here in Demon World.. But I would not care to do it.. But neither will I sell my own..


* Hiei looks toward her again, then his eyes drop to her middle.


Hiei- How long do you carry?

Sarista- Usually it was six months with Gamock.. But Fire demons only carry four months normally.. Perhaps since you so strongly favor Fire it will be close to that.


* The apparition raises a hand to rub his forehead.


Hiei- Well, perhaps that'll give me time to think of something.. Wait! Two of those boys aren't yours, right?


* He looks toward her again.


Sarista- Silis belongs to Celestia and D'Garo..

Hiei- The sensitive one.


* She smirks with a nod.


Sarista- Hai. He belongs to D'Tara.

Hiei- The Hyena Hybrid.

Sarista- D'Tara may be a bit homely, but she is the kindest soul I've ever met.


* Hiei studies Sarista quietly a few moments.


Sarista- Then you're thinking about giving them..?

Hiei- Problem with that?

Sarista- Do you realize how many daughters you could be producing?

Hiei- Just because you're going to come in every two years doesn't mean that we'll have to produce offspring..


* Sarista jerks to her feet to stand and glare down at him with her arms crossed.


Sarista- You have a very short memory!

Hiei- And you have a very one-tracked mind, b----!

Sarista- Do you propose to keep yourself from the others, also?

Hiei- Who said I was planning on..?

Sarista- Look, you only have a couple more days left to replace Gamock's mark on them.. Do you not understand that their fate is the same as mine was?!


* Hiei groans and drops his face into his free hand. Sarista composes herself when she feels how overwhelmed Hiei is becoming. She lowers her eyes.


Sarista- (Quietly) But.. I guess it is your decision to make.


* Hiei feels her use a burst of her energy to flit away and looks after her. He then looks back down into the catchpool to consider everything he's learned.
