“Damn it toddler! Give me a break!” Yusuke yelled. “Now Now Yusuke no need for that! This is a very important mission and I can’t put anyone else on the case!” Came an adolescent voice from a small blue compact held in said man hand. “You always say that! This is exactly why Keiko get so mad at me! You swore you’d lay of on the cases you little brat!” The angry teen growled. If he was aware of the odd stares of the patrons around him he gave no notice. He was supposed to meet Keiko in less than 20 minutes for a movie and he had swore he wouldn’t miss this one. She had been begging him for months to go! “Now listen here detective! It’s serious this time! I’ve already sent Botan to get the rest of your team and there is no time to waste! SO GET OVER HERE NOW!” With that the screen went blank. “DAMMIT!” Yusuke screamed cause those closest to him to jump and edge just a bit further away. “Yusuke! What in the world is going on?” Demanded soft sweet voice making the tall black haired boy jump. “K..K..Keiko! Um…uh….” Yusuke stuttered. The petite brown haired girls eyes narrowed. “Let me guess. Something came up and you can’t go to the movie?” The boy shifted and bowed his head. “I’m sorry Keiko! The brat seems pretty uptight this time so I think it’s pretty important this time.” He muttered. The girl huffed and then gave a small sigh. “I guess it can’t be helped. But I swear Yusuke you had better make it up to me this time and I mean it!” Keiko demanded. Yusuke’s eyes softened and he pulled the girl into a hug. “Thank you for understanding Keiko. I swear I will!” He said softly before turning and taking off in the opposite direction. They were supposed to meet up at the old hags place in order for Botan to open the portal to spirit world. Yusuke couldn’t shake the feeling that whatever it was that had Koenma in such a twist was definitely going to be bad.

“Took you long enough Urameshi!” Shouted a deep voice as Yusuke finally made it to his destination. Yusuke grinned and rolled his eyes at his tall orange hair friend. “Hey Kuwabara. I was with Keiko when Koenma got a hold of me. I’m lucky I made it out of there without getting smacked!” He said. The other red head standing next to him chuckled. “I take it you were supposed to be on a date?” Kurama said with an understanding smile. Yusuke nodded. “Yeah. I promised to take her to the movies today since I just got back. Stupid toddler! I’ll never get any if he keeps this up!” Yusuke growled. An indelicate snort behind him alerted them to Hiei’s arrival. Before anything else could be said a portal opened and Botan’s head popped out. “Oh good! Everyone’s here already. Shall we get going? Koenma’s it a right fit about all this!” She said with a giggle as the others nodded and made their way into the passage.

 

“IT’S ABOUT TIME YOU GOT HERE!!” Koenma yelled as the stepped through into his office. Papers were stacked all over the room and the spirit detectives had to step around them in order to reach the desk. “Don’t shit your diaper brat, it’s not like we could have got here any faster.” Grumbled Yusuke with a glare. “Don’t call me a TODDLER!” Koenma screeched casing them all to wince. “We apologize for our late arrival Koenma. Now please could you tell why you have called us back so soon?” Kurama asked politely with a pointed look at Yusuke.  “This is a little unusual from normal but I can’t think of any one else to call on. A search and rescue mission. Botan can fill you in on the details. The four of you will be split up into teams. Yusuke, Kurama, your on team one, Hiei and Kuwabara you will be on team two…..” “You can’t be serious! Why do I have to work with the shrimp!” Kuwabara interrupted in his usual loud roar. Koenma sighed, he knew this would happen. “For once I agree with the monkey.” Hiei growled. Botan took this as her queue to fill the boys in on their mission. The tip had come in from an otherworld informant about a suspicious medical facility in the ningenki. Upon further investigation it was discovered that it was actually a front for a very dangerous underground Makai syndicate. Unfortunately neither agents in the Makai or the ningenki knew much about who was the head of it but from what they had learned so far it was the usual. Destroy human kind and take over the ningenki for himself. “Ok so I don’t get it. What does this got to do with a search and rescue?  Sound’s to me like we just need to find this guy and kick his ass!” Yusuke exclaimed. “I’m afraid it’s not that simple. We’ve been looking for this guy for years! The second we get close he disappears without a trace. We can’t question anyone we link to the syndicate either. Most of them commit suicide or don’t know anything about what their doing. The fact that our informant got out alive with as much information as he did is a major breakthrough. These facility’s are just covers for our targets. Two people, one in each facility. Now this guy has gone through a lot of trouble to keep them hidden so they have to be pretty important.” Yusuke frowned. “So why the need to split up? Why not just hit them one at a time?” Botan shook her head. “The place is filled with security. From what we know they run in teams. One youkai and on ningen per team. We have to hit them at the same time thus the reason we split you two up the way we did. Hiei and Kurama have the ability to speak telepathically so they can keep each other abreast of each of your progress. The ideal is to draw as little attention to team one as possible. That’s why we put Hiei and Kuwabara as team two. You the ones that need to draw as much attention as possible. We don’t want them to realize we’re hitting them at the same time.” Yusuke snickered. “Well that makes sense. I doubt those two will make more than a couple of feet before things get heated.” Hiei gave Yusuke a glare that promised death but the detective just rolled his eyes causing Kurama to smile. “So how do we know when we find them?” Kurama asked. Botan shook her head. “We don’t know what they look like. Not very many do, apparently they keep contact to a minimum. Only their top scientists are allowed access. Find them and follow them. They’ll lead you where you need to go. OH, and you’ll need these! There really important so don’t lose them!” Botan said handing Kurama and Hiei what almost looked like a hotel key card. “You’ll need those to wake the targets up.” She said in a cheery voice. “Uh…what’d ya mean wake em up?” Kuwabara asked. “Did I forget to mention it? The targets are kept in a cryogenics chamber. Alright then! Here are the locations. I will meet you at this central location at exactly midnight and transport you to the spirit world! Good Luck!” Botan chirped and opened a portal to return them to the ningenki. From there the team worked out a plan and a meeting time for in the morning. After they had ironed out a few details they went their separate ways. Yuskuke went home to call Keiko, Hiei and Kurama walked towards his home together and Kuwabara headed towards Genkais temple to see Yukina.
