Hiei sat on the windowsill of his dorm window. He couldn’t sleep, though truthfully he didn’t need much anyway. Moonlight filtered through the window, casting shadows on the bed where his roommate was supposed to be sleeping. Suichi had asked Hiei to cover for him in case anyone wanted to know where he was. Suichi had done something so juvenile that Hiei hadn’t really believed it at first, he had snuck out to go on a date. A date he had only really agreed to because the person had been practically stalking him for quite a while.

A date with Karasu.

Hiei had tried to, in his own manner, convince Suichi not to go. But he couldn’t come up with a good reason why. Suichi, being the trusting and oddly insightful, had smiled and said that Karasu ‘couldn’t be that bad and he does have a gorgeous head of hair’. Hiei had watched him leave with a heavy feeling settling in his chest.

Hiei didn’t know Suichi all that well, it was just that… Suichi had been so nice, was always so nice, even though they didn’t know each other than as roommates. He was nice to everyone, yes, but for some reason Hiei always felt like those special smiles Suichi gave were just for him. It made him feel… warm inside… after a bit of thought he guessed that it could be called… happiness.

The mere thought of that word made Hiei glare at the beauty beyond his window. Growling he stood angrily. He moved, unbeknownst to him, faster than the human eye to stand before the door. He grasped the doorknob and- What about covering for Suichi? asked a small part of him- froze.

He felt guilt, actual guilt, over the thought of abandoning his promised vigil. That made him angry, he never felt guilty, guilt was a useless emotion used to control people. Jerking the door open, he walked through, then slammed it shut.

“Damn Suichi, anyway.” He snarled as he strode down the hall in eerie silence.

That same small part of him that had asked the question pointed out that he could’ve left the door open to insure that Suichi would’ve gotten caught, but he hadn’t.

“And Damn me for caring.”

Suichi smiled at Karasu absentmindedly. It wasn’t that he wasn’t having a good time he just felt so… wrong with Karasu. Almost like he was meant to be with someone else instead… The image of his sullen roommate flickered through his mind’s eye. Could Hiei be the one he wanted?

“Suichi?” The other man waited until green eyes met his purple. “Am I boring you?”

“No, no, of course not. I’m a little out of it right now is all.” He assured the older man with a smile. He supposed most would consider Karasu handsome, but then, most would consider him that as well. Karasu had straight black hair, purple eyes, broad shoulders, was taller than Kurama, and very pale skin. His outfits were a tad too ‘Vampire wanna be’ for Suichi’s taste. He was nothing like Hiei.

“Good.” Karasu’s smile had an unhealthy hint to it; Suichi dismissed it as his imagination. “Let’s eat.”

Karasu was smug in his current position. Suichi had finally given into the inevitable; he’d agreed to go out with him. Suichi was a beautiful specimen of a young man. Red hair, green eyes, and a body that stated clearly that he was in his prime. Oh, how fun it would be to make this one scream… Karasu quickly pulled his thoughts from that track, he was getting an unbecoming erection.

He had to hold back his irritation that Suichi seemed to ignore him so easily. I’ll just have to punish him later…

He forced a smile, “Let’s eat.”

When Suichi got back to his dorm room he felt pretty darned good. Not great but… good. And he tried to convince himself that good was better than nothing.

“Hiei, I’m back.” He looked around the room, curious. It wasn’t unusual for him to get no response, but for Hiei to not be there was… odd. “Hiei? Hiei, where’d you go?” He knew talking to an empty room was silly, but, sometimes Hiei would pop out of nowhere… sometimes. “Wonder where he went?” Suichi shrugged and started to get ready for bed.

Hiei watched Suichi for his perch outside the window. He had wanted to leave, and had, for a time. But as always he had been drawn back to the other boy’s presence. He had been worried. Not that he’d let Suichi know. Suichi got way too happy when he found out stuff like that. Hiei didn’t know why… hmm something to ask… if he ever did.

Hiei was going to leave because he’d made sure Suichi had gotten home alright, but stopped. He seemed to be held in place as he watched Suichi start to get disrobed. Had he ever seen something so… elegant? He leaned forward, Suichi had removed something that Hiei had never thought he’d see, Suichi had removed his armor, all his clothes.

Suichi had always been very careful about being even partially disrobed around anyone. He’d once taken his over shirt off when they’d moved in at summer… but that was all. Hiei drank in the sight of the other boy.

Then once Suichi had gotten into PJs and into bed Hiei leapt from his perch to land, cat like, below. “’Night… Suichi.”

Suichi smiled faintly in the dark. He’d sensed Hiei’s presence when he’d started getting changed. But he hadn’t minded Hiei watching him it made him feel good. Suichi sighed snuggled deeper into the sheets. “Good night, Hiei.”

The next morning when Suichi woke, Hiei was there fully dressed and waiting. “Wake up fox. We’ll be late.”

Suichi smiled, Hiei always called him ‘fox’ and Suichi made sure no one else did. Suichi stretched. “M’kay. Le’me get dressed.” He stood.

“I’ll leave.”

“Why? Don’t trust yourself with me, naked?” Suichi teased as he started changing.

Hiei sputtered and blushed, yes Hiei can perform that physical task. “I do not!”

“Oh?” Suichi like Hiei’s blush it was cute. “You don’t trust yourself?”

“That wasn’t what I meant and you know it!” Hiei glared.

“I know, I know. I was teasing.” Suichi smiled. “If you insist, you can go ahead with out me.”

“Hn.” Hiei opened the door to leave.

“Too bad about Karasu.” Suichi mentioned off handedly.

Hiei froze. “What is?”

“He’s just not my type.”

Hiei grunted, pleased despite himself. “Good, at least you haven’t lost all your sense, fox.” Suichi’s laughter chased him from the room.

“And damn me for caring.
