~*~
A young girl slowly walked down the crowded street, a smile plastered on her face. Not the friendly type nor the leave-me-the-heck-alone type, just the normal one that a person puts on to look friendly though they would rather be left alone. Swiftly she walked down the sidewalk, muttering curses under her breath about the crowds.
Pushing past two young lovers the girl stopped long enough to blow a strand of hair from her blue eyes. Tryxi groaned as she suddenly remembered the street fair that was going on today. Sighing for the umpteenth time the young girl silently vowed to not take this street home again.
Blue eyes glanced at her watch, “Damn,” she swore quietly. She was going to be late! Would her boss believe her excuse for the tardiness? Chuckling Tryxi answered her own question, no way! She might have had a chance if she had not been late every day for the last two weeks.
Shrugging her shoulders the girl threw back an offending lock of black and blue hair, Tryxi really did not care anymore if he truly wanted to fire her- he could. Tryxi would not cry, it would be his lost- no one else wanted to work there.
Feeling refreshed, Tryxi continued on slowly making her way through the crowded sidewalk. She would have walked in the street, but Tryxi knew that that was dangerous ((unlike a certain teenaged punk, but that’s another story...)). Poking a starving lion would be safer then walking in these streets. Drivers often were seen speeding through school zones topping 45- often cutting off children.
The sun shone brightly, shining on Tryxi’s bare shoulders causing her to smile brightly. It was a crime to be shut in on such a beautiful day. Tryxi once again could not believe the weather they were having. It was only in the middle of March and here she was wearing a black tank top and blue jean cutoffs. Her short black and blue streaked hair was already plastered to her neck, from the heat.
Throwing back her head, Tryxi stretched out her arms, embracing the warm and beautiful day. Her bright blue eyes closing. Humming a sweet song the young girl allowed the warm sun to shine upon her...
...or until complete darkness eloped her. Her eyes flew open as she felt her feet fly into the air. A burlap sac had been place over her head and closed up. Reaching out Tryxi tried to pull apart her itchy prison. NOW her boss was going to be furious at her. Tryxi slammed her fists against the sac, desperate for a hole.
“Ow!” Her kidnapper shouted as he felt a tiny fist slam against his back. Scowling at the quivering sac, the tall shadowed creature spread out two long bat-like wings, flying for the sky.
~*~
“Fifteen bottles of beer on the wall, fifteen bottles of beer. You take one down, pass it around...” Tryxi stopped as she shifted again. Sitting, if you could call it that, in a burlap sac was not the most comfortable. And her kidnapper was not making it any easier. Some how Tryxi got the feeling that they were no longer on the ground, for cars never sounded so loud before.
“Damn.” The shadowed figure shouted as he barely missed another plane (the tenth one so far). He was certain that the skies of the human world were far more dangerous then the whole Makai.
Another fist landed squarely on the figures back, causing him to arch his back. “I said don’t swear. I should be swearing! I’m the one in a sac, and I’m the one that’s going to get fired!” Tryxi boomed as she kicked her feet, fists pummeling against the sac.
The figure contemplated seriously about dropping the sac, if only the contents were not so valuable. Clamping his mouth shut, the winged creature continued his flight, heading for the Makai portal.
~*~
“Oomph.” Rubbing her backside, Tryxi scowled as the top of the sac opened. “You could have put me down softer.” The glare was still as strong as ever when the girl’s head popped out.
As her eyes focused to the changing light, she gasped. There before her was a young looking man with long silver hair. Silver fox ears poking from the top of his head and a long silver fox tail wrapped around his waist. Shaking her head Tryxi turned her attention to the other man. His facial features were hidden from her, thanks to an old hat. Long black hair spilt from the top of the hat, gently flowing against his long black bat wings. Raising an eyebrow the girl stared at the wings, unable to tear her eyes from them. “Damn, Halloween comes earlier every year.”
The fox rolled his eyes as he walked over the other guy, arms crossed in apparent annoyance. “And why, may I ask, did you feel it necessary to take this girl? I thought we agreed after the last one, NO MORE HUMANS!”
The winged man raised his hands, “Whoa calm down Yoko. I’m not keeping it, I just need to get something from it...”
“Hello!! I am not an 'it'! An 'it' is a dog that gets fixed. I am not fixed or a dog! I am a girl, a she, a her. Not an it.” Tryxi huffed her hands on her hips, head tilting to the side ever so slightly. No matter how cute the winged guy may have been, she was still annoyed at him. First he kidnapped her, making her late for work (if she still had a job), and now he proceeded to call her an ‘it.’
Now it was time for the other man to roll his eyes, turning he repeated the sentence, careful of what he said, “Whoa calm down Yoko. I’m not keeping her, I just need to get something from her...” Turning to face the seething girl, mockingly asking, “Is that better?”
Tryxi smiled as she nodded, “Much better.” Noticing how tall the other two men were she decided to leave the rest unsaid.
“Kuronue, I do not have much patience right now, what do you need from HER?!” Tryxi shuddered at the coldness of his voice. Clamping her mouth shut, she watched wanting to see what would happen first. Maybe this was all a misunderstanding, they would have the wrong person and release her.
“That,” Kuronue pointed to Tryxi’s neck. Gasping she clamped her hand over the tiny pendent that hung from her neck. She would never part with it, they would have to pry it from her cold, dead hands.
Yoko slapped his head lightly, his annoyance showing, “You’re a thief, why not steal it?” He asked as though it was as the simplest thing. Golden eyes glanced over at the pendent. He could see no special reason for it. The golden chain had lost it’s sheen long ago. And the sapphire heart that hung from it seemed ordinary enough.
“Touch it. Heck take it from her, if you can do it I will discard this ‘girl.’”
Blue eyes shifted from the Yoko to Kuronue and back to Yoko again. Watching him slowly come nearer, Tryxi tried to stuff it back into her black tank top, unwilling to relinquish it. Holding her breath Tryxi readied herself for an inevitable fight to the death.
Sighing Yoko reached out, ready to snatch the pendent from under the girl’s shirt if need be. His fingers brushed against her neck as he gently touched the chain.
Sparks flew from the chain as Yoko yanked his hand back, sticking the two singed fingers into his mouth. “What the hell was that?”
‘Yeah what?’ Tryxi thought, unsure of what just happened.
“The pendent protects her and she protects it. Once it is put on only she can take it off. So basically we have to wait for her to remove it.”
Yoko slowly reached up into his long silver hair, pulling out a long, deep green leaf transforming it into a long leaf dagger. “Then we cut her head off.”
“Hey, hey, hey I like my head where it is.” Tryxi grasped her neck as she hunched up her shoulders.
“You cannot do that, she is protected by the pendent.” Kuronue droned on, almost bored.
'He had been right about the lack of patience' Tryxi thought as she watched Yoko huff as he walked away, shouting over his shoulder, “Have fun watching over her then. There better not be any trouble or I will find a way to take care of her.”
Tryxi shuddered at his voice, many smart remarks lingered on her tongue, but she refused to say them just yet, unsure on how they would be taken. The last thing Tryxi wanted was to find out there was a way to kill her.
Kuronue shook his head, as he grabbed Tryxi’s small hand leading her from the dreary room she had just been in. Looking around the young girl took in her surroundings. Everything looked dreary, as though it needed a woman’s touch. Everything but the exquisite treasures that laid on tables, overflowing onto the floor below. Chalaces were tossed in an unorganized pile along with necklaces and jewels. Rich paintings hung from the walls, along with murals. Biting her lip, Tryxi thought about how one handful would make her rich. Richer then what she could ever dream of. But she could never steal, it just was not a thing that she would do.
“Don’t even think about taking anything.” Tryxi’s stare broke from the treasures and to Kuronue’s indigo blue eyes. Silently she nodded returning her glance to the treasures as she was pulled from the room.
“What is your name?” Tryxi stood staring at the tiny bedroom she had been pushed into, rather roughly. A tiny cot sat in one corner, with a tiny table and lamp sitting next to it.
“My name...Tryxi. Yours is Kuronue, right?”
“Yup.” Leaning against the doorframe, Kuronue watched the girl walk around the room.
“So who sleeps here?” Tryxi asked pointing to the tiny cot.
Smiling Kuronue answered, “I do.” He patiently waited for the next question, seeing it build in the girls beautiful eyes. ‘Just remember the pendent. Gain her confidence.’
Tryxi’s eyes widened. “Where shall I sleep then?” Though she had an idea, which terrified her to no end.
Kuronue rolled his eyes, an arm already outstretched, pointing to a clump of clothes thrown in the corner.
“You gotta be kidding me. I just told you I’m not a dog. I am a human girl!”
“Or you can sleep with me.” Tryxi clamped her mouth shut. “I don’t mind sharing my bed.”
“Floor’s fine.” As if to prove it she walked over to the cloths sitting on them, “Oh yes perfect. I must give this hotel a 5 star rating!”
Ignoring the comment Kuronue turned away, “I will give you full freedom, don’t make me regret it. Don’t steal, don’t run away and I swear you will be safe.”
Nodding at the retreating back Tryxi glanced around what was now her home for who knew how long. Fatigue from the ordeal slowly took over her, lying her head back Tryxi slowly closed her eyes.
