Just One Bite

Chapter One

In a world of fairies and vampires, differences between the two species can cause conflicts and even wars. Fairies live in a place much like a dream. One with many waterfalls and plant life all around. Beauty spread over all of the land and fairies of all ages, young and elder, inhabit the peaceful paradise. Opposite to all the beauty and wonder, is the land of death and decay, the land of vampires. Vampires gather in packs to hunt in the darkness of their world. Feeding on fairies has become quite a delicacy to the vampires. An agreement was reached five thousand years ago, stating that neither vampire nor fairy shall cross the others borders unless accepting death. Many fairies stray away from their paradise in search for an adventure, but what they find is a life of devastation and killing, even among their own kind. One fairy in particular, one of great beauty and fairness, flew among the wild vegetation, enjoying the setting sun. Kurama, as he was called, loved to explore the many sights of his world. With wings, crystal in color, Kurama would fly through the large forests and land on top of the tallest waterfall. A dark figure stopped in the shadows of the tall trees, avoiding the sun’s deadly touch. His red eyes searched the ground until lifting to the silhouette on top of the large waterfall. He saw the gorgeous fairy lower his wings and pull his shirt over his head, leaving his long pants on. The dark figure gasped at the sight of the fairy. He looked away in disgust. ‘He’s just a fairy, nothing more than food. Then why am I attracted to this one?’ Ruby eyes returned their gaze to the now completely nude fairy. ‘Oh God, he’s so beautiful. I must have him.’ Kurama’s lean figure stretched before standing up straight and diving off of the waterfall. He brought his wings closer together to eliminate any air drag as he hit the water in a small splash. After a few moments, the dark figure standing in the shadows used his keen vision to scan the lakes clear water. He smirked and crossed his arms over his chest. “He can’t stay under there forever.” Before long, Kurama emerged from the bottom of the lake. He laid on his back and brought his arms to his sides to float along the calm water, occasionally kicking his feet up and down. An arrow shot through the air and struck the tree where the dark figure was standing. He growled and took the arrow out of the tree. “Damn fairies. Trying to kill me.” Three male fairies flew closer to the lake and pointed to the dark figure. “Vampire! Kurama get out of here!” Kurama looked up and jumped out of the water as quickhe che could. He quickly found his ces, es, got dressed, and flew toward the village where he lived. The dark figure watched Kurama leave. “So close. DAMMIT!” He waited for the fairies to find him until he pulled out his long katana. Each fairy held their bows up with an arrow ready to kill the trespasser. “I thought that you were never going to find me.” The love vampire joked. “Leave now Hiei, or shall we kill you and bring your ashes to other vampires as a warning of our strength?” Hiei chuckled and sheathed his sword. “Tell the redhead to be more careful. Next time he won’t be so lucky.” Hiei quickly ran out of the forest, keeping in the shadows as he crossed into the vampire borders. He slowed to a walk and continued into one of the vampire’s bars. After sitting at the bar, the bartender handed him a tall glass. Hiei took the glass into his hands and stared at it. ‘I could be drinking Kurama’s blood. Such a lovely creature. A shame he’s not a vampire or I would make him my mate.’ A man with long black hair sat down at the bar. Hiei sighed and looked at the taller man. “Hey Karasu.” “So Hiei, I heard that you were caught by fairies in their land.” Hiei smirked. “News travels fast.” Karasu stared at Hiei. “Why were you there? You know that our kind is forbidden to go into their forests. You could have been killed.” “Yes I know that I could have been killed, I don’t care where I’m allowed to or not, and that is none of your business why I was there.” Karasu narrowed his eyes. “Damn it Hiei, you are the only heir to the throne and yet you insist on goofing around and trespassing on the fairies land.” Hiei put his glass down and turned to face Karasu. “Why should I care if I go over into their land? We’re vampires and we feed on their kind.” “Is that why you were there? To feed?” Hiei turned back to face the bar. “Is it Hiei?” Karasu questioneiei iei ran a finger around the rim of his glass before grasping it and drinking it. He swallowed the large amount of liquid that flowed from the glass and then placed it onto the bar. His red eyes had turned ice blue from the feeling of the fairy’s blood sliding down his throat. Karasu smiled and stood up. “Let’s fill your hunger.” He helped Hiei to his feet and they walked to a large cage that held fairies inside. All of the fairies were caught in their land and brought to the bar to be bled. Karasu and Hiei looked at all of the scared fairies huddled in the center of the cage. “Which one do you want Hiei?” Hiei saw a familiar face in the back. “That one.” He pointed to a tall fairy with black hair gathered into a high ponytail. He had black wings and purple eyes. Karasu smiled and pulled Kuronue out of the cage and gave him to Hiei. Hiei attached a chain to Kuronue’s handcuffs and walked him into a back room. After shutting and locking the door, Hiei sat down on a couch beside Kuronue. “I’m not going to kill you as long as you answer my questions, got it Kuronue?” Kuronue nodded and sat back when Hiei reached for his hands. “Give me your wrist.” Hiei demanded and watched Kuronue lift his wrist to Hiei’s mouth. Hiei took out a key and removed the handcuffs. “I will ask easy questions so don’t be afraid. Every one you don’t want to answer or one I don’t like, I will slit your wrist with my nails. So please, answer me the first time okay?” Kuronue nodded and swallowed hard and Hiei licked his wrists. “First of all, tell me about Kurama.” “What would you like to know about him?” Hiei smiled showing his canine teeth. “What is his rank in fairy terms?” “There is no rank of fairies.” Hiei pushed a sharp nail into Kuronue’s wrist. “Aaahh.. I mean Kurama is an ordinary fairy. In vampire terms, the lower ranks or someone below you.” Hiei smiled. “Good. Now, why does he walk and swim freely in your land when he knows that a vampire could sneak into the forest as I have?” Kuronue watched Hiei pull his wrist to his mouth and lick the blood that oozes out. “Kurama is not afraid of vampires.” Hiei stopped licking at the wound and looked at Kuronue. “Why not? Most fairies are.” “I’m not sure.” Kuronue was relieved that Hiei hadn’t cut his wrist again, but wasn’t expecting him to lean forward and bite his neck. He groaned as Hiei sucked the fairy life out of Kuronue’s body. When Kuronue’s heart came to a faint beat, he withdrew his fangs and sat back, letting Kuronue’s limp body fall to the floor. Hiei licked his lips and walked out of the room. He left the bar and traveled down the many dark allies until he saw long red hair and sparkling wings shine from under a street light. He blinked a few times to clear his vision before a grin formed across his lips. “It’s you, Kurama.”
