poems for a pair of demons
Tear gem
I didn't mean to hurt you,
I thought you'd understand,
since we both came from a p,
w,
where love and trust are the same.
The fire in your eyes tells me how badly,
I misjudged the caring in your hands,
it was only for my wounds - not for my heart.
You turn from me - your work done,
the tatters of our friendship,
fall to the floor - snow in a broken globe.
"Wait." I say, my voice - so small and alone,
you pause, then turn, eyes on the floor.
I reach out and take your hand, pressing in its palm,
my only gift to you.
You stare in disbelief - understanding the message in my gift,
I hope - someday, it will heal the rift between us.
This small thing.
My tear gem.

Your tear gem
I hear the words - but I can't risk their promise.
It's too dangeroushat hat you're asking of me.
So, I'll break you to save you - forgive me this lie.
I'll use my arts to heal your hurts,
but I have nothing to ease the wound I'll now inflict
with just the flicker of my eye.
I feign anger, turn away-needing to distance myself from your pain.
My soul is glass and I fear your seeing through it - to the truth I hide,
that I return your love.
You sound so forlorn, as you plead for me to stop,
my heart stutters in shock, never have I heard you sound so lost,
against all wisdom - I give you that one small gift.
I turn back to you - eyes to the floor - if I look; my resolve will vanish,
like so much smoke.
You take my hand and press a small object into it,
I have no need to look - I know what it is.
I look into your face and know that you've accepted the lie.
Will you accept the truth, when one day you see swinging from its silver chain.
Your tear gem.
