Book 4 - Chapter 4

Chapter 4

*~*Six Years ago*~*

“Amaya, your father is home.”

The teenager knew what that meant, run and hide or be hurt. The girl usually chose to get away and hide until her father, drunk again, had left or passed out.

She hid in closet, behind a door; one he would never open. She cowered in fear as he came through the front door, watching the weasel-like man backhand her mother.

“Bitch! Where’s my damned food!”

She bowed and set a plate on the table, backing away slowly. The man grudgingly took a bite out of it, immediately spitting it out.

“You call this food? I knew I should have gotten rid of you years ago.”

He picked her up roughly, grabbing her back the hair and smacking her again. He called her every name he could think of as the sixteen-year-old Amaya watched from the shadows of a closet.

“Aren’t you good for anything?” He pushed her onto the old wooden table, holding a knife to her neck, ripping off his belt. “No, you were only ever good for one thing weren’t you.” The girl watched in horror as her ‘father’ raped her mother, her anger and pain welling up inside, overflowing.

She turned around in the closet, trying to find anything to use as a weapon. She finally found a large hunting knife, the blade rusty and dull. She looked at it, hearing the pained screams of her mother outside.

The small, frightened sixteen-year-old broke down the door, launching herself at the man, plunging the knife into his back, close to his kidneys.

“You little bitch!” He turned and the knife slipped from his body, Amaya using it to defend herself against blows.

She finally ran out the door, not thinking of anything but getting away. She ran to the nearby stream, plunging into the water. The cool feel of the water had always felt like it cleansed her soul. And with her current sin, Amaya knew she needed the cleansing.

She turned her head, the smell of smoke telling her something was wrong. Running out of the water, Amaya sprinted back to see the house she had grown up in, burning to the ground.

“Mother. MOTHER!”

She rushed toward the house, to be stopped by the man who her mother insisted she call father.

“Dumb bitch! Look what you made me do! LOOK!”

She reacted in a frenzy, eyes flashing as she plunged the knife into his neck, slashing his throat, the blood pouring from him in a rush.

“Die you Bastard, Die and Rot in Hell!”

She turned from the gurgling sounds of death coming from him as she ran back into the house, screaming for the woman she called mother.

“Mother! Mother! Please Answer me!”

She tripped over something in the middle of the floor, and turning to look she saw what she never wanted to see.

He mother lay there, her neck opened up, with a peaceful smile on her face.

Amaya held onto her mother’s body and cried as the flames licked at her clothing, beginning to consume the girl known to all as Amaya.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*

“I want to give you another chance at life.”

“I don’t want to go back there. The memories are too much.”

“Don’t worry Amaya. I, Koenma Daioh, will have your memories sealed away in your mind. You have much good work you can do for the Spirit World. You will have a new life. We’ll just keep it a secret between us.”
