Memories pt 1

Chapter 9: Memories Part I

To understand the nature of a situation, one must first be placed in that situation to grasp it fully. This natural fact can be applied to my relationship with the spirit fox known as Youko Kurama. To understand that our relationship goes beyond hatred, anger, lust or even love, one must walk in both of our footsteps. However, from this point, I can only give you half of the view point of this situation, for I cannot tell you his feelings, his thoughts, though if you had asked me about a century ago what he was thinking, what his emotions were, then I would have foolishly thought and gladly have told you my opinion. How foolish and deluded I was to think that I could understand someone and something as complex as the kitsune. How naïve I was to actually believe that I was falling in love with him.

All of this must sound rushed and unbelievably confusing, so let me start at the beginning. My birth: nothing special there, I am the bastard child of a once revered whore, turned Lady, by marriage and a wanderer. Of course, this was unbeknownst to me and the man I once called my father. However, upon learning of my ‘adventurous’ mother’s shameful secret, my ‘step father’ cast me out of his manor and fed me to the wolves. This part of my story is something that I am unwilling to divulge to anyone anymore, at least for the time being, but suffice it to say that I was forever changed by the events that took place those first thirty years of my existence. It made me want to become stronger, it made me lust for power…it made me a prude.

Do not get me wrong here; every demon in the Makai has a story of a painful upbringing to tell. I am by no means saying that I was unique. Nor am I trying to make you feel sorry for me by lamenting all of my woes upon fascinated ears. But, I fear that my simply telling you about my past and Youko will not be enough. No, you have to have been there, you have to have experienced this tale. So let me take you there through my memories. Let me let you experience my life, my pain, my delusions. Let me introduce you to the rampant, broken child known as Shihiko.

Flashback: about 100 years ago

-:-

‘My true father, the nameless warrior, left me today. He left me in the care of this Kairen: A rebel, the man who wants to over throw the tyrant ruler of the dragons, Sai Uli. The man who wants me. Upon leaving, my father gave something to me, a necklace of sorts. At present, this thing grasps greedily at my neck, merging with me, sharing my life force. It is alive, symbiotic. It is called the eye of Shin Ryuushi. Legend has it that this little trinket, a silver mutated torque with a huge eye-like red and golden stone in the middle, is the true eye of our God: Shin Ryuushi. This torque, supposedly when the time is right, will bless me with all of the strength and power of our Lord.’

The girl put down her pen and ceased to write in her journal. She sensed a presence in her room. It was Kairen. He walked towards where she was currently lounging on her bed and stopped before her. The man was truly a sight to behold. He had long midnight tresses that fell to the middle of his back, piercing gold eyes and deliciously tawny skin. His body was perfection; even Shihiko could see that through the cloak of his black clothing.

She sat up before him and waited for him to speak, “You father has trained you for fifteen years since he removed you from the clutches of that tyrant Sai Uli. Is this correct?”

The girl nodded solemnly and averted her gaze from his. She did not like to think of the days before her father rescued her.

“Good, then you are skilled. I have a mission for you; think of this mission as a rite of passage. If you return successful, then I shall allow you to join in my crusade of destroying the emperor.”

The girl couldn’t help the feeling of excitement that coursed through her. Her lust for revenge against Sai Uli was so strong it was palpable. For years, she had dreamed of nothing else.

Kairen snapped her out of her thoughts, “Shihiko, this mission will not be a simple one. You are to retrieve the legendary sword: Shaii,”

“I thought that that sword was just a myth.”

Kairen snorted at her naïveté, “Just as we demons and dragon are just myths and legends?”

Shihiko couldn’t help the slight blush of embarrassment that tinged her cheeks. It was true, there were many things in the three worlds that were considered to be myths and legend, but were truly not. However, the Shaii was a different story. Supposedly the mystic sword was the embodiment of the entire phoenix race; a race that is rumored to have been the first beings to exist. It was said that they had been wiped out by a deadly force and as a last attempt to salvage their race, the remaining phoenix elders coalesced themselves into one entity and became the Shaii.

She was awakened from her reverie by Kairen sitting next to her on the bed, running his fingers through her hair in a most familiar way. Shihiko mentally flinched, her past miscreants with men taught her to be most cautious with them. “My little angel, you are far too beautiful and precious to be a fighter.”

Shihiko turned her head to face him. Her eyes, as hard as stone, peered into his own, “When do I leave for the mission?”

Kairen removed his hand from her, getting the not so subtle hint to stop touching her, “tomorrow night, tell me what you need and I’ll retrieve it for you,”

“I will need nothing but this,” she said, embracing the second gift her father bestowed upon her: his katana.

The Next Night

-:-

The forests of the Makai were dark and consuming. The howls and cries of hidden demonic forces echoed throughout the night; beckoning any who entered their thrall to their deaths. Shihiko dashed through this mass of darkness and evil. The veil of the night shrouding her like death, aiding her in her mission with the stealth of darkness. Wasting no time she ran through the forest, her footstep light and quick, her senses trained on anything that would threaten her.

*Snap*

She halted in her journey at the sound of someone or something approaching. She clutched the hilt of her katana, and crouched down into a defensive stance, which could easily and quickly change to offensive.

There were rumors, she knew, of a legendary spirit who roamed these woods. A powerful spirit who could command the flora and, at times, the fauna of the Makai. The legendary spirit, which seemed to be hunting her now. ‘Excellent,’ she thought.

Suddenly, an onslaught of chained scythes emerged from the foliage from the right of her, she turned just in time to draw her weapon and strike down the offensive, shimmering attackers.

The offender who launched the attack had not shown himself.

Clap Clap Clap

The sound of the clapping seemed to come from everywhere and nowhere at the same time.

“I applaud you, my little nymph,” the voice was so eerie. Amused, and yet sensual. Airy and yet thick. Yes, this must be the spirit she’d heard so much about.

“You call me nymph, but, does not that name apply to you, spirit?” she said, not the slightest bit of trepidation in her voice or limbs.

“You truly are foolish, do you not know when to fear for you life?” the voice echoed throughout the wooded area.

“Death, is the last thing that I will ever fear,” was all she said.

A sharp pain stung her in the back of her neck and everything was slowing down and growing dark. Growling, she whipped her body around to gain sight of the culprit. However, the only thing she saw was a deep garnet flower, moist with dew only a few inches from her face, and then everything was darkness.

-:-

Heat and dampness; those are the things that she felt when she lay on the clammy cave floor. She awakened on her side to find that her hands and feet were bound by rope behind her. She glanced around the cave noting the vast amounts of ancient treasures that lined its walls. Tapestries, weapons, jewels and orbs, whatever you name, it was there. She craned her neck upwards, despite the immense amount of pain in that region of her body, trying to get a better view of her would be kidnappers, only to find that they had deserted her.

She sat up on her knees, silently, and began to whittle away the ropes binding her wrists with her clawed hand. The awkward position began to make her hand and shoulders feel numb from the lack of blood flowing in her limbs. Finally, she heard the ropes snap free and her wrists were untied. Hastily she freed her ankles and set out to find the mysterious spirit who captured her. She stretched out her senses and found the the cave she was currently in was merely one cave in a series of caves and that there was a life force coming from a cave nearby.

She set out for that area, taking her time. No doubt he probably thought she was still subdued and unconscious. After entering three dank caves she came upon one that was lit. ‘At last, we shall meet,’

She boldly entered into the cave, her strides proud and arrogant, ready to talk business with the spirit. However, her proud and bold gestures were cut to the quick when she nearly tripped in embarrassment at what she stumbled in on. What she had presumed was one life force was two; and the two said life forces were joined, by their loins in the act carnal pleasure.

She could not help the rush of blood that filled the pores of her face as she watched the two groan in satisfaction at the intensity of their climax. The two men, the bottom, a chimera with midnight blue hair, navy eyes and elfin ears, and the top, a silver haired kitsune with piercing gold eyes, which were now closed in pleasure, were so engrossed with one another that, she thought, that they had not even realized she had entered into the den.

To save face and hopefully try to rewind the blunder she had just made, Shihiko tried to tip toe out of the cave and reenter when they were more presentable. However her plans were foiled as both the chimera and the kitsune locked amused gazes on her.

The silver haired kitsune removed himself from his lover and stood, revealing all of his Godly assets, he tossed his hair back cockily and said, “So, you’ve finally awaken nymph, it’s about time you showed up,”
