Scene 89 ------------------------------------------- Later That Day

* Ryuji comes to a stop on a tree branch just inside the border of Yomi's territory. The reason he has stopped so abruptly is soon detected from Yomi's territory all the way to Yusuke's. Not long after, it causes an alarm to sound up in Koenma's office. As the godling Toddler looks up from his endless paperwork a red ogre rushes in waving a folder.


Red Ogre- Oh, what a tragedy, Boss!

Koenma- Death isn't a tragedy here, Hank.. It's our job..


* Koenma takes the folder sadly, somewhat expecting who's name is inside. George comes over.


George- Is it.. her, Sir?

Koenma- Yes, George.. Go see that she's taken care of properly.. This is why we've had her paperwork in order for a couple days.


* Koenma takes a deep breath, then stamps Mukuro's paperwork in all the proper places. He then hands the folder to George.


Koenma- I'll be down in a couple moments.. I'll escort her to the bridge personally.. I need to call Yusuke..


* Just then the communication station buzzes on two lines.


George- That's probably him and Yomi now.

Koenma- Put them both on the conference line, send it to the monitor.


* As George moves to carry out the order Koenma switches into his Teen form. In a few seconds both Yusuke, with Kurama behind him, and Yomi appear on the larger monitor in split screen format.


Koenma- I know why you both are calling..

Yomi- Both?

Yusuke- It figures that you would.

Koenma- Both of you switch to conference.. Yusuke is on my other line, Lord Yomi.


* George shakes his head quietly as he leaves. When both Yusuke and Yomi have their setting situated they greet each other properly.


Yomi- Greetings, Lord Urameshi.

Yusuke- Lord Yomi.

Yomi- You obviously felt her power leave as well, I gather.

Yusuke- I'm sure all of Demon World did. They all felt it when my Old Man left, too.

Yomi- Indeed. I do remember..

Koenma- So.. (Clears throat) Now what will happen, gentlemen?


* Yomi doesn't need his sight, he can hear the nervousness that Yusuke and Kurama can see on the Prince's face. The Toushin shrugs.


Yusuke- Well, I figured I'd give Enki a call and get the ball rollin' on the formal paperwork that'll need to be filled out in order for me to attack Yomi...


* Koenma swallows. He doesn't notice the slight pressure that Kurama applies to Yusuke's shoulder. Yomi chuckles, knowing. by now, how Yusuke is.


Yomi- Well, I thank you for the three years' notice, Lord Urameshi.

Yusuke- No problem.. So, shall we duke it out for the whole territory or just squabble over the dividing line?

Koenma- Yusuke!

Hiei- Neither!


* Yomi tilts his head, wiggling a couple ears, recognizing the new voice immediately. Yusuke and Kurama turn to look toward Hiei who had entered, as Yusuke spoke to Yomi, with his three sons and baby Tatsuya in a sling on his back.


Hiei- Lord Mukuro's territory boundaries will remain the same.


* Yomi waits to hear Yusuke's reaction to this news.


Hiei- The only thing that will change.. is the disolving of the border between that territory and yours,.. Lord Urameshi.


* Yusuke tilts his head puzzled. Kurama seems to understand what Hiei's about to do and drops his eyes.


Yusuke- What?


* Hiei glances up toward Kurama, realizes that he understands the situation, and focuses his full attention on Yusuke as he explains.


Hiei- You said that I am still her heir.. Correct?

Yomi- On the official papers, yes.


* Hiei and Yusuke glance toward Yomi who shrugs.


Yomi- She told my new mate, Ryuji, before she kicked him out.. I know everything that he does through our bond.. I'm sure you understand about that don't you, Yusuke?

Yusuke- Hn.. Now knowing that scares me, Yomi..


* Yomi chuckles at Yusuke's sarcasm. Hiei speaks to Yomi.


Hiei- Then you also know that I am Yusuke's second mate.


* Yomi inclines his head. Koenma just leans on an elbow as he listens in on the proceedings.

Hiei- According to the formal law, I can now take charge of her territory.

Yomi- Yes.. Since you are Lord Urameshi's.. submissive..


* Yusuke half glances toward Yomi.


Yomi- The territory officially becomes his.


* Yusuke looks from Hiei to Yomi to Kurama then back to Hiei. The koorime scowls and crosses his arms.


Hiei- Is that not clear,.. Alpha?

Yusuke- It.. Well.. Yeah.. Pretty much, but..

Hiei- I'm going to go take charge of Alaric and sign all the official documentation.. You should be receiving copies within the week.


* Hiei turns to look down at his sons, but Yusuke stands.


Yusuke- Now wait just a d--- minute here.. What if I don't want.. your..?


* Hiei looks back at Yusuke.


Hiei- Too bad.

Yomi- Indeed.. I've already sent my new Second, Lord Ryuji, to Alaric. I sensed quite a stir from that area not long after Mukuro left.. I sent Ryuji to keep things in order until you arrive, Lord Hiei.


* Yusuke looks back toward Yomi a bit annoyed that all of this has taken place before he even knew about it.


Yomi- You can send my copy of those papers home to me with him.

Hiei- Hn.

Yusuke- Woah!! Hold on, d--- it!


* Hiei looks back up at Yusuke.


Hiei- You told me earlier that this decision was mine..

Yusuke- Yeah, but..

Hiei- Then I have made my decision.. I will stay your mate.. But I will be living in Alaric to help maintain the peace within our much larger territory.


* Hiei looks back down at his boys again, but Yusuke looks toward Kurama who has started back toward his den.


Yusuke- 'Rama,..

Kurama- Our kits are mewling for their dinner, Love.


* Kurama continues on into the den. Yusuke is distracted again when he hears Hiei speak to Ichiro.


Hiei- Ichiro, you are your Father's oldest son.. You remember what I've told of this importance before?


* Ichiro nods hesitantly.


Hiei- You are now old enough to make this decision.. You may stay here to be raised as his proper heir or.. refuse the position and turn it over to Jiro.


* Yusuke forgets about Yomi and Koenma on the monitor. He goes over to Hiei.


Yusuke- What the h---..?!


* Hiei keeps his calm and looks up at Yusuke. Ichiro looks toward Jiro thoughtfully.


Hiei- Are you refusing to accept your heir?

Yusuke- Wha..? No! I'm not refusing..! You know I'd never refuse any of my kids!! But how dare you put this kind of a decision on this boy!

Ichiro- I choose to stay, Papa.


* Hiei and Yusuke both look down at Ichiro. Hiei nods proudly.


Hiei- Wise decision, son.. Of course, you know that you're always welcome to come visit Alaric at any time.


* Yusuke continues staring down at Ichiro dumbfoundedly as he nods firmly. He then hugs Jiro and Chiisai, who looks as if he's about to cry. Yusuke finds his voice as Ichy then turns to hug Hiei.


Yusuke- So that's it?!


* Hiei looks up at Yusuke and nods.


Hiei- Hn.. It's the proper way.


* Before Yusuke can say anything else Hiei turns and leaves. Ichiro glances up at him then bows.


Ichiro- I promise I won't be any trouble, Father.. I understand my place..


* Yusuke looks back down at Ichiro.


Ichiro- It had to be me, Sir. I am the oldest, but besides that.. Jiro is a Papa's boy.. He was scared stiff that I'd refuse and he'd not be able to be around Papa.. May I go to the playroom now, Father?


* Yusuke swallows to find his voice.


Yusuke- (Quietly) Uh.. Y-yeah.. Sure..


* Ichiro blinks away. Yusuke stares toward his front door until he hears Koenma clear his throat. He glares back at the monitor.


Yusuke- Well, I hope you two enjoyed that show!

Yomi- I didn't see a thing, Yusuke.


* Yusuke rolls his eyes, then goes back over to slump into the chair.


Yomi- I don't understand why you sound so defensive, Yusuke.. In a matter of a few moments you have become more powerful than I.. ever was.. Besides that, you have kept Lord Hiei as your mate..

Yusuke- (Quietly) A mate that'll be living half way across..

Yomi- As a territory Lord, you were given a portal device by Lord Koenma.. Correct?


* Yusuke scowls up at the goat demon.


Yusuke- Are we done here, Lord Yomi?


* Yomi is quiet a moment, then he nods.


Yomi- It would seem so.. Before I go, let me assure you that our alliance will remain as it has been.

Yusuke- (Unenthusiastically) Great, I'm glad to hear it.


* When Yomi's side of the screen goes black Yusuke drops his head into his hands. Koenma leans forward on his desk.


Koenma- Cheer up, Yusuke.. Hiei could have asked you to release him.


* Yusuke doesn't answer.


Koenma- Look, Yusuke. I have to go escort Lord Mukuro to the bridge per her pre-death request.. I suppose she was just ready for true peace.. I'll drop in to check on you when I'm done. Okay?

Yusuke- Don't bother.. I'll be fine.

Koenma- Sounds like it.. Not.


* Yusuke glances up at the Teen.


Yusuke- (Quietly) Sometimes.. I wish I'd stayed dead in that cave..

Koenma- I know it gets rough.. But let me give you a couple things to think about.. First of all, Hiei is your second mate.. That means that you can always change your mind and bring him under submission..


* Yusuke scowls deeply.


Koenma- Or you can be patient with your decision to let Hiei make his own choice.. Trust him to do the honorable thing.


* After a moment, Yusuke's scowl fades and he slowly nods.


Yusuke- Yeah. I hear ya, Junior.. Give Lord Mukuro my regards.


* Koenma nods and Yusuke switches off the communication station. He hears Kurama's voice through their bond as he rubs the back of his now-aching neck.


(#) Kurama- You know he's right, Love.


* Yusuke closes his eyes.


(#) Yusuke- Yeah.. But I also know what long distances can do to.. relationships.


* Kurama's voice doesn't respond. Yusuke moves to lay on the couch and stare at his ceiling.
