Scene 85 ------------------------------------------- The Next Day

* When Hiei wakes again he finds Ryuji standing beside him. The koorime feels what has roused him and looks down at his nursing son. Ryuji smiles openly, missing his own three, but glad that he's here to watch this special moment between his older brother and son. He watches Hiei quietly nuzzling Tatsuya, secretly sniffing for anything that might be cause for alarm. When he realizes that his tiny son is perfectly healthy he looks up at Ryuji. His softened expression turns into a sudden scowl.


Hiei- Now, why the h--- are you here? Where's that fool Alpha of mine?!

Ryuji- From what I understand, Ani, Yusuke spent the rest of yesterday and half of last night waiting for the kitsune's babies to be born.


* Ryuji watches Hiei hesitantly look back down at his hungry son. Hiei notes that the baby has the same tattoos on him that Ichiro and Jiro had when they were born. Ryuji feels his brother's mood changing.


Ryuji- Before you go all melancholy, Lord Urameshi never left your side.. He didn't find out that Kurama was in labor until after your baby was safely in your arms.. Yukina told me to make sure you remembered that before she had to go.

Hiei- Hn.. You said you would explain why you were here..


* Ryuji sighs and moves a hand up to stroke Hiei's spikes.


Ryuji- It's a long story, Ani.

Hiei- I have plenty of time, Oto.


* Yusuke comes in as Ryuji begins.


Ryuji- You remember Pehjo..?


* Hiei glances up at Yusuke, then looks at Ryuji.


Hiei- That pesky skink?


* Ryuji notices the weary Toushin coming over. Yusuke motions with a hand as he rreaches the bed.


Yusuke- Please, continue.. I'm curious about this, myself.


* Hiei listens as he watches Yusuke lean to check Tatsuya.


Ryuji- Well, he and I.. hooked up.


* Hiei looks back up at Ryuji incredulously.


Hiei- Hooked up?

Yusuke- Oh yeah. Koenma told 'Rama and I that you'd found a mate.. We figured that's why you didn't come back around.


* Hiei half glances toward Yusuke who returns to 'coochy-cooing' his son.


Hiei- You.. and that skink?

Ryuji- Yeah.. Are you going to listen.. or scowl at me the rest of the day?


* Yusuke chuckles. Hiei rolls his eyes.


Hiei- Fine.. Continue.


* Ryuji takes a deep breath, then continues. Calmly and steadily, he gives them the full account of his whirlwind romance. By the time he finishes, Hiei and Yusuke are both staring at him. Hiei then lowers his eyes to shield the guilt he feels, moreso from Yusuke than Ryuji, whom he knows probably feels it anyway. Yusuke doesn't quite know what to say so he blurts out the first question that occurs to his weary mind.


Yusuke- Mukuro demands that all females names start with M?


* Hiei looks up at Yusuke while Ryuji chuckles.


Hiei- Hn.. Baka.


* Hiei then yawns and looks back down at Tatsuya. Yusuke smiles slightly as he watches Hiei gently stroke the baby boy's tattooed cheek with the back of a finger. Ryuji places a hand on Hiei's shoulder.


Ryuji- No.. I didn't want you naming this poor kid after me. He has his proper name, you know that.. And don't feel so guilty, either. I'm with Yomi now.

Yusuke- That old goat has needed a mate for a while, but I bet it's been a real trip for you.


* Hiei closes his eyes, understanding, obviously better than Yusuke, what his brother has sacrificed to become Yomi's Beta. Ryuji just glances a smirk at Yusuke.


Ryuji- We're still adjusting.. But he insisted that we take a break long enough for me to come help you, Ani.


* Hiei looks back up at Ryuji. He doesn't have to voice his gratitude openly. Yusuke watches the two brothers communicate quietly until Ryuji finally yawns, himself.


Ryuji- I think I'm going to return to my room and rest now.. I'll see you later, little brother.


* Ryuji makes Hiei growl when he ruffles his spikes. Yusuke looks at Hiei when the fire demon is out the door.


Yusuke- I thought you were older than..

Hiei- I am! Go away and figure it out.. I'm ready to rest as well.


* Yusuke starts to reach for the baby to return him to the crib until Hiei growls again.


Hiei- He stays here with me.. I'm his Papa..

Yusuke- Okay, relax, koi.


* Yusuke thinks as he helps Hiei situate Tatsuya back down beside him. Hiei rolls onto his side so he can better snuggle his tiny son against him comfortably.


Yusuke- Ahh.. Is it because you're shorter than..?


* Hiei glares up at Yusuke who decides not to finish the statement. The Toushin sighs and nods as he steps back.


Yusuke- Okay, okay.. I'm going.. I'll be back later.


* Yusuke starts toward the door.


Hiei- How is Kurama?


* Yusuke turns back at the door grinning as much as he can.


Yusuke- He had three boys this time.. They're all doing great.. I'm the happiest Toushin alive.. I'll tell 'Rama that you asked about him.

Hiei- Hn.


* The koorime watches Yusuke leave, then looks back down at Tatsuya.


Hiei- That fool was your Father, Tatsuya.


* Hiei raises his eyebrows when Tatsuya smiles. He then lays his head down and closes his eyes.
