Scene 83 ------------------------------------------- The Medical Room

* Within half an hour, nearly everyone is assembled in one of the larger rooms. Even Koenma, Botan, and Yukina are there. The main doctor looks at Yusuke when he has the IV inserted in Hiei's arm.


Dr. Moshin- Lord Hiei is ready to be sedated, M'Lord.


* Yusuke looks at Ryuji who is standing beside him watching just as anxiously.


Yusuke- You're sure that this won't harm you?

Ryuji- I have survived worse, Lord Urameshi.

Yusuke- Just call me Yusuke, please.. I hate formalities amongst family.


* The fire demon hesitantly looks at Yusuke.


Kurama- Do you want to see if we can rouse him so you can talk with him first?

Ryuji- No.. He has to be knocked out or the stubborn little guy will reject my help.


* Yusuke nods. Koenma glances at Kurama when he steps back, then moves to sit on a nearby chair and begins to rub his sizable belly. The kitsune glances up at Koenma then just looks toward the table. Ryuji removes his tunic as he moves to lay on the second gurney that's rolled in beside Hiei's table.


Yusuke- Okay, Doc.. Put Hiei under and let's get this done.


* Yusuke moves up to Hiei's table and holds his hand as the doctor inserts the first needleful of sedative into the IV. Yusuke reaches across to touch Moshin's arm, though, when he sees that Hiei's jagan is wide open under the ward.


Yusuke- Hold up.. His jagan is open..


* Ryuji sits up on his gurney.


Ryuji- It must feel threatened..

Yusuke- Maybe you'd better try to calm him down, Ryuji.


* After a moment, Ryuji sits up on his gurney with a nervous nod.


Ryuji- Okay.. Remove the ward and tilt his head toward me.. I'll try to get in there and convince him to relax.


* When Yusuke does as he's told Ryuji stares into the purple orb in the middle of his brother's forehead. When Ryuji feels that the connection is secure he closes his eyes and begins to probe through the dadrk corridors of Hiei's mind. He searches carefully, gently, until he finally 'finds' Hiei in a small room. Even in the dense darkness of this room Ryuji can make out Hiei's form clearly. His own image leans in the doorway with his arms crossed as he watches Hiei pace inside the small space angrily, growling and cursing his Toushin mate until he turns and notices Ryuji.


(#) Hiei- You?! What the h--- are you doing here?!

(#) Ryuji- I'll explain in better detail later.. For now we need you to relax..

(#) Hiei- Then tell that idiot fool Alpha I'm stuck with that we're losing our baby because of his d--- stupid refusal to cut me open!!

(#) Ryuji- That is what we are preparing to do now..

(#) Hiei- It's about d--- time!

(#) Ryuji- I've been allowed to come and help you, so don't refuse my blood, Ani.


* Hiei stops pacing and turns to look at Ryuji.


(#) Ryuji- You're going to live to hold your son, brother.. Promise me that you'll accept my help.


* Ryuji's form goes over closer to Hiei's. After a moment the smaller form looks up at Ryuji.


(#) Hiei- I can't let you sacrifice yourself..

(#) Ryuji- Will you trust me.. I'm not in any danger.. If you want this baby to live you'll have to promise to accept my help. Otherwise, I'm out of here.


* The shadowy Hiei gives a cursing growl as it scowls, then turns to move away.


(#) Hiei- Che! Whatever.. Just save the baby!

(#) Ryuji- You promise to accept..?

(#) Hiei- Hn.. Now get busy, d--- it! Oh..


* The short form pauses to glance back.


(#) Hiei- Make sure you tell them that my son's name is Tatsuya.. Got that?

(#) Ryuji- Tatsuya.. Yeah.. Nice.


* Ryuji pulls his consciousness back and opens his eyes to look down at Hiei. Slowly, the purple jagan closes. Ryuji nods at Yusuke.


Ryuji- Okay, we're ready.. He should only need about a dozen quarts.. That will give him enough strength to survive the operation.. Since I'm healthy it won't be as hard for me to replace my supply.

Yusuke- Okay. Let's try again, Doc..


* Ryuji lays back down and Dr. Moshin pushes the plunger on the needle. After a couple more injections he pronounces Hiei sufficiently sedated and they can proceed. The medical staff quickly goes into action with establishing the transfusion tubes and preparing Hiei's belly for the caesarian section. Yusuke has to release Hiei's hand and move back to stand with the others who are gathered. They are mostly all so busy concentrating on Hiei's drama that nobody, except Koenma, notices when Kurama stands and leaves quietly. When Koenma sees that the kirsune has an arm wrapped around his own expanded belly he slips out to follow him, suppressing his aura. Kurama reaches the first step of the large, marble staircase and doubles slightly with a quiet gasp. Koenma hurries over to lend the tall kitsune some support. Kurama looks down at his friend.

Koenma- I understand.. I'll open a portal to get you up to your den.


* Kurama clenches as another contraction hits. Koenma opens the portal and helps Kurama through it. When they appear in Yusuke's livingroom suddenly Hokushin leaps up from the couch instantly alert and ready to fight. Koenma raises a hand.


Koenma- Easy, general.. Kurama's going into labor.. I brought him up so he can move into his den.


* Hokushin relaxes and hurries over to help Koenma guide the doubled kitsune over to the mouth of his den.


Kurama- I can.. m-make it.. from here.. Thank you..


* Koenma looks at Hokushin again.


Koenma- I think all the excitement finally kicked his labor into gear.


* Hokushin looks at Kurama.


Hokushin- Will you be okay, Lord Kurama?


* Kurama nods silently, then works loose from them with a slight growl. Koenma sighs and looks at Hokushin again when Kurama disappears inside.


Koenma- (Quietly) I don't think he'll have any problems.. The records I checked before I left all looked good.

Hokushin- It must have Lord Urameshi pretty divided..

Koenma- No.. Right now his full concentration is on Hiei.. He didn't notice Kurama sneaking out, but I did.

Hokushin- I have several guards keeping a strong barrier in place so we shouldn't have any trouble for a good while.


* Koenma places a hand on Hokushin's shoulder.


Koenma- You're a good man, Hokushin.. I'd better get back downstairs.. Where are the kids?

Hokushin- They're in the playroom.. I just checked on them a moment ago.


* Koenma nods and goes back through his portal.
