Chapter Seven
Kurama had come to check on them and came to find his little friend staring into the eyes of Elfleda. Their eyes never blinking and both with a blank look in their eyes. He went to say something as Elfleda’s eyes closed and she went back to resting as Hiei’s eyes rolled into the back of his head and his body hit the floor.
“HIEI!” Kurama lifted up his friend’s head. “Can you hear me?” Elfleda sat up and placed her hand out stretched palm facing the two of them. A large bright emerald green light surrounded her. Yusuke and the others came to the room in time to see the emerald light shoot from her palm toward the two members of the team hitting Hiei. His body arched but his face still serene. Elfleda’s eyes were glowing a bright turquoise that blocked out her natural eye color. She turned her hand so her palm was now facing upward. Hiei’s body turned and the glowing emerald light could be seen through his dark clothes flowing through his blood and body. She lifted palm, causing Hiei to return to the laying down position.
Kurama looked in awe and fear as his friend was in the air. If he broke the connection would it do more harm than good? Was she killing him or saving him? What happened to cause him to collapse in the first place? He looked over seeing Koemna looking through a book and discussing quietly with Yusuke what was in the book and pointing at Hiei and Elfleda.
No one spoke to loud until the energy ball flowed from Hiei’s mouth and his body back into Kurama’s arms. Elfleda called the no longer green ball to her. She looked at it. “A dirty gray and brown overlay along with black, a muddy gray, muddy blue, muddy forest green, and a muddied red colors. Your friend holds much against his self and is hurting him. His aura is calling out for help. I have cleared all I could but there is still much healing that is needed. He will wake within the hour.” She smiled at Kurama. Her emerald green aura faded and the turquoise glow in her eyes had dissipated. She still sat awake and aware. “My people are mostly healers not fighters that is why I weakened when I fought. It is a self defense mechanism within my people, to protect our mates and our young. Since I have neither young nor a mate I have no harbored protection energy.”
“What about having a team?” Yusuke asked.
“What about it?”
“What if you took to us as your family. Will that help you with your protection energy thingy?”
“I do not know. The ways are my people are no longer familiar to me. I was brought into court when I was but 100.”
“You were 100?”
“Yes.” She looked at her hands. “I don’t know all about my people… I should have paid attention to Cousin Shina.”
“Shina?”
“She wasn’t my cousin really but she raised me… I a…was to be the next Queen but I didn’t want it… I wanted to explore. To be a hunter is what I wanted. I ran away and was practicing in the woods behind the bar about 3 days from my village when I was arrested for attacking King Emna. I know I didn’t but I was the only one who fit the description.”
“But who is Shina? Didn’t you get placed face down as a child and found by gypsies who then abandoned you?”
“Shina is the queen of our people. I went back to my people and found out my family were living in a different area and away from the protection of our kind. They had 9 children and couldn’t keep another.”
“So you mean to tell me you have escaped death several times.”
“First time I met her was here.” Elfleda smiled a Boton who just entered. “Koemna?”
“Yes Elfleda?”
“Why do you need me?”
“Excuse me?”
“Why choose me to join the team? Why not just return me to jail?”
“Actually the team wanted you. I was going to return you to jail. The usual spirit detective teams consist of four members.”
“Why let them have me then?”
“I can answer that.” Yusuke spoke up. “Elfleda. You have great potential. Letting you rot in that cell for another fifty years didn’t sit right with me.”
“Yusuke what type of human are you to live and fight along demons and allow them so close to you?”
“Part fighter demon and soon to be a leader.”
“You mean? You are Raizen’s Son? The half breed child of Lord Raizen? The human devorer?”
“Yup that’s me!”
“And you are proud?”
“I am who I am.”
“And Kuwabara Why do you? Are you part Demon as well?”
“No. I grew up sensing ghosts. My sister who raised me had a strong sense of justice and one hell of a punch. Me and Yusuke grew up fighting each other. When he died I found out how much I’d miss the idiot.” Yusuke shouted a ‘HEY’ at him but let him continue. “Keiko helped bring him back. We both went to a large tournament to see who would be Genkai’s students. I won but Yusuke went straight through and fought some bat demon and came in second. Since he killed the demon she allowed him to fight.”
“Wow. Kurama? What is your story to be fighting here? You did mention that you died once as well to escape and that you and Hiei were jailed.”
“I was once Youko Kurama, hence my nickname Kurama. My human mother gave my human name, which I told you when you first woke up, to me. Youko was escaping a bounty hunter and took up the soul of the growing body of a fetus of my human mother. She taught me love and kindness changing everything I once was. Hiei met me along with Gouki and we went to steal the artifacts from Koemna’s vault. Needless to say Yusuke stopped us and Koemna offered us a job instead of jail time and we took it.”
“What’s Hiei’s story?”
“Well when he is ready we’ll let him tell you. Hiei is very protective of himself so we respect that. Most of the time.” Kurama looked over at Kuwabara the one who usually tormented Hiei with comments about his height.
“I understand.” Elfleda looked over at his sleeping form. “He should be waking up soon.” Just as she said those words Hiei stirred. When he looked up at Kurama who was holding him, he sensed the others in the room. He flitted off leaving the group alone. “He’s fast”
“He could be anywhere now.”
Elfleda looked around the room. “I will train with you on one condition.”
“What would that be?” asked Koemna.
“I want to meet with your father.”
