Chapter 7: Introductions Please
/////////////////////////////////////////
(Next day…)

“What do you mean we have to cancel the party?” She all but shrieked into the communicator.

Yusuke talked about the mission and started on his fight with Keiko, but didn’t get very far.

“I know about the mission. Just get Hiei to burn them up with his dragon.”

“He’s not available.”

“What do you mean he’s not available? And why aren’t you going to celebrate with Keiko? What happened?”

“I’m with Kurama…”

“You and Kurama?” She just managed to keep her jaw off the floor.

“I know it’s a surprise…”

“You’re damn right it’s a surprise.” ‘He was the only one who wasn’t taken. DAMN!’

The woman went still and her eyes widened at what was said next. “Anyway, did you hear that Hiei bonded? And no, it’s not his boss.”

“Hiei has a wife? …And it’s not Mukuro?”

“…” Yusuke mumbled something, blushing in embarrassment.

“She’s in heat and you’re waiting for them before going on your mission?!”

“…”

“Reschedule…”

“…”

“A BABY SHOWER???” She shrieked. She looked at the communicator for a few seconds, not believing that came out of Yusuke’s mouth. “Alright already, you’re driving me crazy. I’ll make the changes and update everyone. But you owe me, mister.” She shut the communicator with an audible crack and walked away muttering curses under her breath.

/////////////////////////////////////////

“How did she take it?” Kurama asked calmly trying not to laugh, though he heard the entire conversation.

“Aside from losing my hearing I think Botan took it rather well.” Yusuke gently rubbed the skin in front of his ears then cuddled up with Kurama on the couch.

Little by little everything was being straightened out. The previous night hadn’t gone as well as Yusuke would have liked with Keiko, but he had to do it. He still had to tell Kuwabara and Genkai, though Botan would most likely do that. After they got back to Kurama’s last night, they’d talked over dinner and well into the night. Kurama had also gotten one of his healing balms to soothe the bump on his head and the mark on his face. There had been many questions that had to be answered regarding their friends and how they wanted to go about with this new relationship. It proved to be a nice distraction from the episode with Keiko.

They had both admitted it had been hard to be just friends given how they felt and the possibility that they cared for another. They also spoke about the possibility of going back to Makai, but it was a touchy subject with Kurama. His prime reason for staying was his loyalty to his mother. But since she was married again and had another son to look after, he felt that it wouldn’t be so hard to leave for good. They both knew that Makai was where they really belonged and the only reason they stayed was for their families.

Yusuke’s mom wasn’t much better than when he’d left. And as much as he cared about her, it was hard to live with the alcoholic. Kurama had asked him to stay with him a few times before they’d confessed their feelings and it was only last night that he finally agreed. He was tired of coming home to a cold bed every night with his mother passed out in the living room and the apartment a disaster area.

They also talked about Yoko. Kurama told him that with time, as his human body aged, Yoko would appear more often. Eventually, he’d lose his human form altogether. The original plan had been to recover in the human body and then head back to Makai. He never though he’d have the fox form again before the smoke of the de-incarnation seed.

Yusuke wasn’t sure how that would affect him. The fox was gorgeous, no question. He didn’t feel different when he was around Kurama in that form and said as much. To love Kurama was to love all of him. Kurama was glad to hear that, given that he privately had small episodes of dual personas. He’ll be glad when those stop.

Before going to bed, both agreed that to make their relationship work, they had to communicate, especially if there was a problem. Yusuke promised to be open with him, thought it would take awhile. It wasn’t something he was use to. Kurama’s experience told him that fear of the other’s reaction made people stay quiet, and that’s where problems always start. Yusuke understood that and wouldn’t let fear be the cause of a falling out. It had been the reason he’d stayed away from Kurama in the first place.

The day had taxed them both emotionally and physically. They’d gone to bed holding each other. That night, being with the one they loved, made it feel like they’d finally come home.

The next day was the beginning of many things. They’d started by getting the word out that the party was canceled and would schedule a new one at a later date for Hiei and his wife. Fortunately, Kurama had called Takashi earlier to make sure the shop opened and that he’d be unavailable for the next few days. He wondered what Kuwabara would say when he didn’t show up. There was also the possibility of him running into Keiko. Kurama turned his thoughts to more pleasant things.

“Yusuke?” Kurama looked at the top of Yusuke’s head.

The detective looked up into those shining emerald pools and blushed, but he didn’t care. He was happy and that’s all that mattered; besides, there’s no one else around.

Seeing that he had Yusuke’s attention, “Do you want to move your stuff in today? Or maybe talk to one of the others? Or just stay in?”

He was enjoying the warmth of Yusuke’s body next to him, but he wanted to move around a bit. He had a lot of pent up energy he wanted to use. If Yusuke chose to stay in, they’d end up in a heavy duty make out session that would quickly lead to the bedroom. And as much as he’d been waiting to ravish Yusuke and claim him as his own, he wanted to be sure Yusuke was ready for the same thing. Hell, he was ready to make the offer to mate knowing he would be the submissive one given that Yusuke was an upper S class. They’d known each other for five years. Even though they weren’t together for 2 of them, they had an understanding, but at the same time he knew he’d be rushing. It’s one of those frustrating times when animal instincts took over, but he had to remind himself that he was dealing with someone who thought as a human.

Yusuke was too deep in thought to notice Kurama’s inner turmoil. Mentally he was still too exhausted to deal with other people. He’d worn himself out talking to Kurama the night before and into the early morning. But he was glad that he no longer had to be afraid to talk to Kurama about anything, at the moment anyway. If he went to gather what little he had, it’d be quick and wouldn’t really require thinking. He’d tell his mom where he was even if she didn’t really pay any attention. Then they could have a late lunch. That sounded good.

Looking at Kurama, he noticed the distant look of someone in deep thought. “What’s up, ‘Rama?” He asked quietly.

Bringing his attention back to Yusuke, he shook his head. “It’s nothing, I’m just thinking.”

To Yusuke it sounded like something. “Don’t go back on your promise. Talk to me, Kurama.” He moved out of Kurama’s embrace and straightened on the couch. His hand laced itself with that of his partner’s for encouragement.

Kurama sighed. He’d be a hypocrite if he didn’t follow his own advice. Shifting on the couch to straddle Yusuke’s lap and placing his arms around the detective’s neck, he said, “I want you, Yusuke.”

“You mean make love?” Yusuke wasn’t sure what Kurama was asking of him and he really wasn’t up to going at it just yet. He wanted to give the fox his all, when he wasn’t under as much stress.

“Well…I want that too but…” Kurama couldn’t understand why he was so hesitant, it just wasn’t him. Yusuke rubbed his partner’s back in silent encouragement and waited until Kurama was ready to continue. After a reassuring hug, “I want you to claim me and I want to claim you…I want to mate with you, Yusuke.”

“Isn’t that bonding? I mean...it’s a bit soon don’t you think? Can’t we wait like six months or a year?” Yusuke was getting nervous, he had a good understanding of why Kurama was saying it, but it was too soon on his part.

“I’m not asking you to bond with me just yet. I…I know that this is sudden, but I can’t help but feel this way. I’ve wanted you for so long and now that you’re here I want to mate with you. I know you’re the one I want…I always have.”

“Do we have to fight?” He honestly couldn’t see himself hurting Kurama just to claim dominance of a relationship, even if that’s what other demons did.

“Not really. I’m willing to be the submissive partner knowing you’re stronger than me. If we did fight, it’d have to be in Makai to get the necessary space and then we’d be completely exhausted trying to top the other.” Kurama smirked, “No pun intended.” Yusuke chuckled. “We would also need a witness that would keep a lookout while we focus on each other. Even if you don’t claim me after the fight, you can later once we recover. That’s why the witness is there, to make sure that no one takes advantage of us while we’re out of it.”

“I want to switch sometimes. I don’t want to be on top all the time. I don’t think that’d be fair.”

“I don’t see a problem with that. Remember we set how we want our relationship to be. It’s different for everyone….Do you like being bottom?” Kurama’s curious. He wasn’t sure how far Yusuke had gone with another, either male or female, but he wanted to know just a little.

Yusuke was hesitant and when it appeared that Kurama was about to speak again, he raised a finger to the redhead’s lips. “I did it both ways and I liked it a lot.” Contemplating how much to say he decided to be honest. “I’ve only slept with one person, another guy and he made me feel really good. I never thought that I’d be with you and I feel guilty that I didn’t save myself for you, but I don’t regret my experience either.” He lowered his hand to indicate he was done.

Kurama smiled. True, he was disappointed that he wouldn’t be Yusuke’s first, but he’d make sure that he would be his only from now on. “I guess I get to confess as well. I have made out with others before, but I’ve never gotten to actual penetration, at least not as Shuichi. So you’ll have to be gentle with me when you mark me…If you want to that is.”

“Let me think about it for awhile, k? I was thinking about going to pick up my stuff from my mom’s place then have lunch. Is that cool with you?” Yusuke hugged Kurama close and placed a quick kiss on his soft lips.

“That’s fine. Do you need help?” Willing to change the topic and at the same time get rid of the lump in his throat.

“Yeah. It’ll be a lot faster if we’re both there. But I warn you, you’ll be dancing around a lot of empty bottles with as much as my mom drinks.”

“Thanks for the warning.” Kurama gave him a loving smile. “Don’t worry so much, Yusuke. I’ll give you all the time you need. I’m known for my patience.”

Yusuke grinned. “Thanks, Kurama, for everything.”

/////////////////////////////////////////

Siren woke and sat up abruptly. In doing so she woke Hiei beside her.

“What’s wrong?” He asked calmly. He had been quite comfortable with Siren spooned against his chest.

“My brother is here and…he wants to see you.” She turned to look at him. “He says he has some clothes for us.”

‘Clothes?’ Then his brow rose slightly. “Alright.” He sat up, gave her shoulder a quick kiss and retrieved his pants. The affection earned him a smile. Halfway decent, he went outside to meet his ‘brother’.

Siren decided it was too early and was still sore from the last three days of their rut. Within 24 to 48 hours after mating or bonding, a new heat cycle starts and the pair goes at it for 2 or 3 days until the heat subsides or pregnancy occurs. Now that they were bonded, their heat cycles have altered to correspond with each other, not that Hiei didn’t have the stamina without it mind you. Just as she was about to drift off to sleep again, Hiei reentered the cave with an arm full of clothes.

“Just put them away. I want to sleep more.” She was just too comfortable, but unfortunately dream land was not the next stop.

“I have something for you.” Hiei had been waiting to give it to her, but he’d forgotten about the rut after mating. Apparently, Eros hadn’t. He didn’t want to wait anymore. She turned to him and he nuzzled her neck while pulling out a small box from under the pile of clothes. Sitting up on the furs, he looked at her, taking in the sight. Kami, she’s beautiful. His voice was soft, not wanting to ruin the mood, “A gift for my bond-mate.” He opened the box to reveal a pair of earrings.

“Beautiful.” She examined the black and red jewel on a small 1 1/2 inch platinum chain carved into the form of a dragon. They were hook-like with a catch so it couldn’t fall off easily. “What kind of stones are they?” She’d never seen them before.

“Hiruseki,” he said softly. He put his hand under her chin to meet his gaze, “My hiruseki.”

Before she could stop herself, “When did you cry?”

Brushing her lips with his, “The day we became one,” he whispered, causing her body to shudder. For a moment she blushed and looked away, as if shy from some compliment.

Giving the earrings another glance, “I’ll have to get my ears pierced to wear them.” She flicked her ears, as if to remind him where they were.

“I can do that for you.” Not an ounce of doubt in his voice.

She looked at him skeptically, “You’ve done that before?”

“No, but I’ve seen it done enough times,” he tried to reassure her.

A part of her felt she’d regret it, but she nodded, “Later, time to sleep.” Putting the box under her pillow, she settled back in the attempt to sleep. No such luck!

“Are you still sore from last night? I didn’t mean for that to happen.” He was referring to their last round that ended the heat. It involved him giving it his all to the point that he transformed in the process. It gave her no choice but to follow him in what’s known as a ‘feral’ form. It’s a transformation, halfway between human and beast, more so then her demon form.

“It’s not your fault. I’ll recover.” She said sleepily.

“Eros also gave me a bottle. He said it would refresh you.” He held up the teardrop shaped diamond bottle, the size of a 6 oz flask, to her eyes. He smirked when her ears perked up.

She took the bottle from him and smiled a smile that almost split her face. “I’ve got to thank him for this later.” She opened the bottle and sipped twice. A moan escaped her throat, as if she’d just had another orgasm. Opening her eyes she saw Hiei looking at her strangely, almost expectantly. “What?”

“What does it do?”

“How do you feel right now?”

He took a minute to take stock. “Tired. A bit raw in some places. Why?”

Grinning, she offered him the bottle. “Take one sip.” Hiei did as told and closed his eyes in bliss. His entire body tingled; he felt revitalized and ready to take on the world. Whatever that stuff was tasted sweet and he had to consciously stop himself from drinking more. The saying was true; a little goes a long way.

Once he focused on Siren with her knowing smile he asked, “What is that?”

“Very special elixir made from fire flowers and phoenix tears. It’s useless to a God, but it works wonders on mortals and demi-gods, which is probably why he gave me so much of it.” She explained.

“Where do you find fire flowers?” The question sounded stupid to his ears but he was curious.

“In the sun.” She answered it as if it was common sense and that everyone should know.

“So only a God can make it?!” There was a small sign of disappointment in his voice.

She gave him an odd look. “Yes. This stuff is Eros’ gift to us and our family. Very considerate of him and you can’t tell anyone about this either.” She examined the bottle carefully, “I wonder what he said to Apollo to get this much.” She muttered to herself. “I’m going to leave it in the pit with the fire stones. It’s best kept warm.”

Siren got up and stretched her revitalized body before making her way to the pit. Surrounding the bottle with the stones, she raised the temperature of the stones to roughly 100 degrees Fahrenheit. She search her bag for a few pieces of parchment and created a small barrier around the bottle to keep the heat in so as not to increase the temperature of the cave. Then, for the purposes of seeing if everything worked right, she raised the temperature of the stones to 800 degrees Fahrenheit. The stones visibly flare up, but the barrier held with no problem. The temperature was lowered to 200 degrees. The reason for keeping the elixir in a diamond bottle was because its melting point was over 7000 degrees. [1] When it’s initially created, the temperature of the elixir was about a quarter of that. If the elixir ever finished she could always try to get more or sell the bottle…maybe. Satisfied with her work, she returned to the furs.

“All done.”

Hiei watched as she went about the task and was amazed at how easy it came to her. It was interesting to watch her work and many questions popped into his head that he felt were best left for another time. When she came back to him with the all clear, he moved up and nuzzled her cheek. He surprised himself at how affectionate he could be. He didn’t know if it was because others weren’t around, or because he wanted to treasure something that he’d never had the opportunity to experience, the feeling of being wanted by another without the feeling of being used. It could also be the bond.

“Since we’re feeling better, let me pierce your ears. I want to see them on you.” She gave her consent, but then another question came to mind. “Can you take human form?”

Instead of answering him, she just changed. Siren’s tail disappeared. The strips on her body also vanished and her ears were on the sides of her head, nice and rounded like anyone else. Her hair was a little darker, but other than that she was human looking. He preferred her as a demon any day, but at least his curiosity was satisfied. “I’ll pierce your ears in this form. It should be easier and less sensitive.”

Siren went to her bag to pull out a small steel blade and handed it to Hiei. They didn’t have any needles and his blade, as well as her sai, was too big at the point. After sterilizing the blade with his flame, he went about the task quickly and inserted the earrings as the holes healed. In a few days she’d be able to take them out and put them back in without any problems.

“Done. Transform.” She did so and the earrings showed up nicely on her feline ears. Hiei caressed her ears lovingly and she purred into his chest. “Are you up to meeting the others?” He whispered into her ear. She nodded. “Get dressed while I contact them.” She sighed and got to it.

/////////////////////////////////////////

Having gotten the message from Hiei as Yusuke was getting settled in; Kurama called Kuwabara and arranged to pick him up to meet the others at the temple. He called Botan this time to spare Yusuke his hearing and let her know they’d be ready soon, so she could open a portal to the designated location. Kurama also took the time to find out if she’d informed Kuwabara about the changes yet and received a negative. He honestly didn’t know how the psychic was going to take the news.

/////////////////////////////////////////
(Early that evening…)

Everyone, minus Keiko and Koenma, gathered at Genkai’s temple to join up with Hiei and meet his ‘wife’. The plan was to do a quick introduction and then get the mission underway. But like every plan there’s always something that’s never taken into account, shock being one of them.

The first shock was seeing Hiei standing at equal height to Kurama in his human form. [2] It could have also been that he was wearing a black muscle shirt and his black pants fit a bit snug in the appropriate areas, but none the less it was comfortable for him. Everyone somehow managed to stay standing.

As he walked towards the living room with a cloaked figure behind him, the gang was able to see the flexing of muscles under the clothes and his bare arms. Another shock and possible panic could be the missing ward usually wrapped around the dragon. Many had seen it flare when the ward was not in place, but the couple didn’t look worried in the least. Genkai was more surprised than shocked. The way to tell was that both her eyebrows tried to do a disappearing act by merging with her hair line. Everyone else stood wide eyed and slack jawed.

“Stop staring.” Hiei was trying to be calm, but he was really annoyed. Siren was doing her best not to laugh. The looks on their faces were priceless. It’d be interesting to see what they’d do when they saw her.

He’d convinced Siren to wrap herself in her cloak again. When they were over the changes she’d show her face. On the way to the temple she’d warned him that even though the curse was lifted she still had the glamour affect for a few minutes when she showed her face. The curse basically kept the glamour affect indefinitely and that’s what lured others to her. They’d also noticed an increase in Hiei’s speed as they made their way there. Not being built for speed, she chose to fly along side him in order to keep up. Running at her max, she was only able to match him at half his speed. About halfway to the temple, they walked and it was then she’d told him about her parents.

Her sire was of the shadow clan and his special ability was the use of illusions. Unfortunately, being of mixed stock she’s only able to cast illusions within a five foot radius around herself; being in a mortal body gave limitations to the entity within. The use of illusions was of a mental projection not casting a spell. She could if she was desperate, but it took a lot more concentration and power than the body was prepared for, and many of the spells were complicated. This was the ability she used when actually taking a job. She’d have everyone believe that the Siren of Death was a tall blond woman without a face to be identified. Only when confronting her target would she drop the illusion! She’d made use of the many basic spells, learned blood magic and the use of wards extensively, something she never needed before, especially since Gods ‘don’t’ bleed.

“WOW!” Botan finally got her tongue to work.

‘Darn it. Can’t joke about his height anymore. Now I gotta come up with some new insults.’ Kuwabara thought to himself.

“Well Hiei? We’re all here.” Kurama said calmly. He voiced everyone’s query regarding the one that had caught Hiei’s attention. Getting a nod here and there told him they are ready.

Hiei stepped aside and placed his arm around the cloaked figure. “This is my wife.” Locking eyes with hers, he gave her a slight nod. She removed the cloak in one swift movement. Looking back to his companions, “Her name is Siren.”

Shock number two (or is it three?) involved instability of legs, temporary speech impediment and a few tongues hanging out.

“Hello. Hiei’s told me all about you.” She gave a slight bow out of respect. Unfortunate for Hiei the scent of arousal from ‘almost’ everyone in the room pissed him off. Fortunately it was faint. It had started before she unveiled herself which meant that he had aroused a few of his comrades. Siren hadn’t spoken seductively or anything, but the softness of her voice still sent shivers over his body. His arm tightened around her and he growled possessively.

“Hiei, you hit the jackpot.” Yusuke breathed out. The man was drooling, having forgotten how to swallow the build up of saliva.

“I agree.” Kurama said wistfully beside Yusuke, not noticing the drool.

“Why would a babe like you go for Hiei?” Kuwabara earned a death glare from everyone in the room, even Yukina. In the back of his mind he felt he might have missed something. He didn’t think his question was that stupid, but it’s almost like everyone knew Hiei differently than he did and that it was only natural that Hiei got someone so beautiful.

“I obviously see something you don’t. And judging from all the looks you’re getting I’m right.” She said defensively. She was a little disappointed now that she was this close to Kuwabara. She had thought he was a bit more cultured than this, but that didn’t seem to be the case. Given what she knew, she’d say he’d been Tenka at one point and that would explain his use of a sword. Tenka always enjoyed the thrill of fighting an opponent he perceived to be stronger than him. Kuwabara could be quite handsome when he looked serious in the ring, but when he got stupid it was embarrassing to watch. Oh well…

“I also have an announcement to make. Seeing as my wife is now pregnant, I think it would be wise to inform my sister that she is to be an aunt." Hiei said, with some hesitation. He still remembered what Siren said earlier.

‘Before you start making excuses just think about it for a second. She’s not asking you to tell her every little thing you’ve done since you were born in graphic detail. She just wants to know that you’re alive and happy. She also wants to be a part of your life.’

"You have a sister?" Kuwabara asked, astonished.

Siren rolled her eyes. ‘I thought he was a psychic.’

"It’s about damn time." Yusuke said impatiently, but he didn’t make a move to face Yukina. Kurama on the other hand looked at her from the corner of his eye to gauge her reaction. A small smile graced her lips. All families were protective of their young and it helped to have siblings to share the experience with, especially if one needed a break.

Choosing to ignore Yusuke’s comment he addressed the carrot top. “Yes, I do.” Moving his eyes to the girl next to him, he sighed. “I honestly didn’t intent to live this long with the life I’ve lived.” Looking at Siren for a moment, “Though I’m glad I did.”

With the exception of Siren, Yusuke and Kurama, the group was floored by the gentleness and thoughtfulness in his voice. Well…Yukina wasn’t so stunned; Hiei had always spoken to her differently than he did with others. It’s unheard of to see such emotion in the stoic individual. In all the time the three boys, now young men, have known Hiei; they’ve only seen him laugh once. On very, very rare occasion they’ve even seen him smile, granted some looked like big grins or a smirk, but they were during times of great humor or victory.

Looking back to Yukina, Hiei continued, “Yukina, I am your brother.”

And the dam burst. Being the affectionate person that she was, but knowing Hiei’s reflexes, she made a bee-line to Hiei and grabbed his hand, slowly. Tears fell from her eyes to land on the floor as gems as she brought his hand to her cheek. Siren on the other hand was looking at the pretty hiruseki on the floor. She was itching to pick them up, but afraid of being rude.

“I knew I’d find you someday, but there were times I did give up. I should have realized when I accidentally called you brother.” She rubbed her cheek against his palm to convey her feelings.

“I didn’t want you looking for me.” Hiei put simply.

Kurama cleared his throat, “We’re still here.” He offered a good natured smile.

Botan looked at Siren with some interest and noticed something that she’s never associated with demons. There was a mixture of different energies that she’d never encountered, or had she? Maybe if she touched her she’d get a better idea.

“I’m aware of that.” Hiei said. He walked away with his sister and sat her on a cushion on the floor.

Siren took the opportunity to collect the nine stones from the floor. Kurama looked at her expectantly. She smiled, then walked to Yukina and crouched down in front of her. “Do you want these?” Siren held both hands out.

Yukina smiled at her new sister. “No. You can have them as a gift for bring my brother to me. I don’t think he would have admitted who he was without your help.”

‘Yay.’ Siren thought to herself. “Do I have your permission to make a necklace or bracelet out of them?” She favored the bracelet since there were only nine.

“I’m giving them to you. You can make anything you want.” Yukina didn’t lose her smile. It seemed her new sister didn’t want to offend her in someway. And she also has some say as to what happened to any hiruseki she shed. She found it very thoughtful.

After that, Yukina engaged Hiei in some talk and Botan took her chance. Kurama and Yusuke just looked on and made comments amongst themselves about Hiei’s new partner. Kuwabara excused himself.

Siren was no ones fool. She saw the inquisitive look in Botan’s eye. She’d never personally met the girl, but knew who she was. She knew all of Charon’s assistants. He’d gotten tired of rowing the boat across the River Styx and decided that flying was more practical. Having foreseen the growth of the population he quickly got to work and trained assistants to do the job. He theorized that spirits who saw a friendly face would be more inclined to go to the other side than those who found themselves there. It also gave Hades a break from having to hunt and drag them down; gave the Titan more time with Persephone. Charon made use of all those coins he’d collected over the centuries now that the tradition was no longer practiced.

Botan quickly grabbed her hand and introduced herself, seeing as Hiei forgot to do that. Botan felt a strong pulse of energy through the contact and detected about 4 or 5 different wave lengths. One in particular she’s only associated with Koenma or his father, another was Genkai and another like those of any high level demon. She couldn’t make heads or tails of the others. Curious!

/I know what you’re doing Botan./ Siren startled the ferry girl by sending the mental message and retrieved her hand.

“I’m sorry.” She looked real sheepish, or was it catish?

“When we finish this assignment, do we get to see Koenma?”

“Of course. Everyone gets paid after each assignment.” She already forgot about her tiny indiscretion.

“Alright.” Siren looked at Yusuke and Kurama who were looking at them. Shifting her gaze back to Botan, “How about you introduce me to the two studs over there?!”

“Of course. Hiei can be so inconsiderate sometimes.”

Hiei heard that and glared at her. He was just giving Yukina back their mother’s hiruseki.

She wasn’t scared since there were others in the room, so didn’t pay him any mind. They walked to the two young men and made a round of introductions. It gave Siren an opportunity to do some soul searching. She was a little surprised by Kurama’s energy pattern and twinning of souls. She wondered if that had any repercussions. It wasn’t something that was usually done.

“You’re certainly not what I expected Hiei’s partner to look like. Are you a temptress?”

Kurama was already teasing the woman and he didn’t know anything about her. Yusuke didn’t understand why. Sure she’s good looking…okay drop dead gorgeous and she had a really nice voice but what do they know?

“I could be.” Was Siren’s reply; a wicked smile on her lips. “You must be Yoko Kurama.”

“Only when I’m in Makai. Just call me Kurama.” He motioned with his hand, “This is Yusuke Urameshi.”

“Hey.” He couldn’t think of anything else to say.

“I was at the tournament. It was a close call between you and Yomi.” Siren commented.

“Why did you drop out? I remember you making it to the third or fourth round.” Yusuke asked curiously.

“Nothing gets by you, does it, Yusuke?” Kurama teased. Though he hadn’t paid much attention to those he didn’t know, unless they fought someone he did, he was curious as to how much of Yusuke’s attention she had drawn.

Yusuke raised his hand to scratch a non-existent itch on his face. “Well, there weren’t that many fighters after the preliminaries and she was being called by her number. It was weird which is why I remember.”

“Well, now that we’ve been introduced, let’s get Kuwabara and get going.” Kurama said.

“Someone call my name?” Kuwabara came back into the room; his face was flushed, as if he’d splashed cold water on himself to calm down.

Hiei and Yukina finished their talk and approach the others. Siren asked for a moment and walked over to Genkai, who had been completely left out. Siren bowed.

“It took you long enough.” Genkai said gruffly. “Completely ignoring an old woman in her own house.”

“I apologize for ignoring you, Genkai. That is why I wanted to take the time to say ‘hello’ before I was dragged from your temple.” Meeting her sarcasm with her humor. Siren’s voice calmed the old woman.

“I’ve got a question.” Kuwabara leaned towards Yukina.

“Yes?” Yukina was still giddy. She was going to have smile lines for days.

“If Hiei and his girl didn’t have a wedding, how come he calls her his wife?” He whispered.

“Oh. Well, it tells others that they’re bonded. Wife and mate can be used interchangeable though I’ve also heard the phase ‘bond-mate’. I think he’s using wife since we’re in the human world and it tells others that she’s not available.”

Kuwabara crossed he arms, put his hand on his chin and thought about that. “I guess that makes sense. So when they go back he’ll call her his bond-mate instead?”

She shrugged. “Most likely. Even in Makai ‘wife’ would be understood.”

“To be quite honest, I never thought you’d do more than take a mate. What prompted the change?” Kurama asked; though he had a fairly good idea.

Hiei was silent for a moment, and then shifted his gaze to Yusuke and Botan before going back to Kurama. “I want to keep her.”

“Wouldn’t just mating tell others she’s yours?” Yusuke asked. The other three gave him a funny look, which in turn told him they knew something he didn’t.

“Yusuke,” Kurama started slowly, “By bonding with her, Hiei has prevented any other from ever taking her away from him. Their souls are intertwined; if either of them dies the other will follow soon. That connection doesn’t exist if he just took her as his mate. He’d feel her death, but he’d continue to live on. He could also be challenged if someone else took interest in his mate. They can always be remarked.” Kurama looked at Hiei, “It would seem that she too wanted to keep you. Your feelings for one another must be very strong.” Since you didn’t die. That last part was left unsaid, but Hiei understood. Yusuke also got the impression after having listened to Kurama’s monologue the day before.

“Congratulations, Hiei. What did Siren give you?” Yusuke asked, while she and Genkai had their own conversation. At the same time, it got rid of the tension that had nearly choked the four of them.

“If you haven’t already noticed, I’m no longer wearing the ward.” He lifted his hand. “She used blood magic. I have full control over the dragon.” Hiei answered. He’s proud to have such a talent.

“That’s cool.” Yusuke answered, looking at the dragon on Hiei’s arm now that he no longer feared it attacking him.

“I agree.” Kurama said. “Is it possible to see her mark? I’m curious as to what would represent her.” Given the off the shoulder top Siren wore, her mark was displayed to everyone.

“Do you have a mirror? I haven’t seen it.” Hiei made no move to uncover the mark.

“Here you go.” Botan pulled a mirror out of somewhere and handed it to Hiei. He accepted it and pulled the collar down. He saw Siren’s bit mark with a lavender colored musical note and a gold star on the ball of the note.

“It’s so pretty.” Botan commented.

“How does music represent your chosen?” Kurama asked. “Does she sing? Or play instruments?”

“Kurama, have you heard of the Siren of Death?” Since he wasn’t whispering everyone in the room turned to him. Siren said nothing and remained impassive.

Kurama thought about it for a moment. “But she’s not blond.”

“She’s the one and the same.” Turning to his mate, he asked nicely. “Will you show them?” Siren shrugged and presented the illusion she used when in the company of an employer.

Kurama didn’t look too pleased. He too was well informed of the rumors. Which meant the musical note represented her singing talent. She dropped the illusion after a moment and moved to stand at Hiei’s side.

“I know I don’t have the best reputation, but I hope that it doesn’t condemn me either.” Siren said quietly.

“People change. And I hope to get to know you better with time.” Kurama was still weary, but trusted Hiei’s selection of a mate.

“It’s getting late. If you’re going to do this I suggest we leave now.” Botan interrupted.

“Does this mean that Yukina will get tall like you when we get married?” Kuwabara asked, scratching his head. He’d been surprisingly quiet since the couple’s arrival. The news of Hiei being the brother Yukina had been looking for should have shaken him some more. He must’ve still been in shock.

Yusuke and Kurama look at each other knowing their tall friend had yet to make the connection. Hiei beat them to the punch before Kurama could put it mildly.

“No. I’m bonded to Siren. I’ve matured ahead of time because I’m expected to use my enhanced abilities to protect my family. She’s also matured for much the same reason, and it’ll be less stressful on her body to carry our cubs.” Everyone with demon blood was becoming very uncomfortable with the current topic. And even though Hiei was being blunt with Kuwabara, it left other questions to be asked that may not have an answer and for those that do, the human might not like what he hears.

“So she’ll mature too if she gets pregnant right?” The questions kept flying.

“I think we such save the discussion for after your mission. I think I speak for Yukina when I say she would like to spend some time with her brother and new sister-in-...mating.” Genkai was hard put to find a word that was appropriate since ‘law’ was a human term, but she guessed it could be used in the context of demon law. The room was silent for a moment before Yukina answered.

“I’d like that very much. We have a lot of catching up to do.” Yukina smiled at her family and silently thanked Genkai for her intervention. Children were a topic they had yet to discuss and she was contemplating speaking to Kurama for advice. She knew Hiei wouldn’t like that discussion at all, but there was also Siren to consider since she was going to be a mother soon. Maybe she’d talk to both and compare notes.

This is my longest chapter yet. I was trying to see if I could cut it some where but it refused. I hope you enjoy.
