A Binding Promise

Hi everyone!!

I'm soooo sorry this chapter came out as late as it did ^^; I know it looked like I was NEVER going to continue this right? hahaha ^^;; sorry about that, but I had half of this chapter done when I had that 'dry spell'. I just got my mojo back for...Lord knows how long ^^; I'm really happy I got it back and I hope it stays until I can finish all of my stories ^^;

Anyway, this chapter is pretty short, and I'm sorry about that, but it is just a fill in chapter to lead to the main event coming hehehe. If you liked Genkai's Tourney, you'll REALLY like what I'm going to do to that hehehe ^_~.

Decided to leave a review in hopes for a sooner update. I'm in love with uke Kuwabara and I like that all the guys are fighting over him in their own subtle ways, though I'm not really sure what Kurama is doing. I hope Hiei gets some revenge on Yusuke for taking Kuwabara away again. In fact I hope Kuwabara gets some shots in too, I mean he was going of his own free will what right does Yusuke have to say what he does or doesn't do? It was great keep it coming, can't wait for some citrus.

Thanks ^_^ I'm happy you did!! Well, sorry about the update wasn't as soon as you wanted, but at least it came right? I do too hehehe ^^. Yup, I think that everyone is really secretly lusting after Kuwa in the show anyway hahaha. Kurama...has his own reasons, which you will learn ^_~. It's actually hinted in the story. Hahaha well Hiei is in Spirit World jail at the moment, getting 'interogated'. Oh trust me, Kuwa will get Yusuke in due time hahaha ^_~. I know, Yusuke is just stubborn is all. Thanks and I totally will! Oh that will be later ^^;; I'm STILL trying to work my self up to that ^^;; hahaha. ENJOY!!

*shakes a finger at Yusuke* Bad Spirit Detective, no cookie for you. Taking Kuwa away from Hiei like that. *grins* Had to play catch up with the chaps but it was worth it.

You have some grammer and spelling issues, but I can't say much as my punctuation is horrible. ^^; But I enjoyed reading it and patiently await the next chapter. ^^

Chapter 8:


Kuwabara groaned. His entire body hurt; even places he never knew he had hurt. He put his hand to his head and found it bandaged. His eyes blinked open and looked up at a white ceiling.

“Huh?” Kuwabara said before sitting up too fast.

Kuwabara groaned and held his stomach that wa also bandaged. He looked around and found him self sitting in a nice bed, his shirt off and a bandage around his stomach. He looked around and found himself in an apartment building.

“Wow, it’s only been a day! Normally I have guys out for weeks, with the punch I gave you.”

Kuwabara blinked and found Yusuke sitting in a chair next to his bed. Kuwabara’s hand went back to his head.

“What the…what happened?” Kuwabara asked.

Memories came flooding back, the warehouse, Kurama, Hiei…

Kuwabara growled.

“Where’s Hiei?!”

“Relax, he’s not dead. He was taken to spirit world jail or something.” Yusuke said.

Kuwabara looked at Yusuke in disbelief before falling back down on the bed with a grunt.

“So what now? Where am I and why am I here?” Kuwabara asked, staring up at the ceiling.

“You’re in my room. And I had some questions that have been bothering since that first time I saw you…” Yusuke said, pulling his chair closer to where Kuwabara lay.

Kuwabara glanced over towards his ‘captor’ who wore a curious yet concern look across his face. Kuwabara had a feeling that he had known him at one point, but he wasn’t sure from where.

“So?” Kuwabara asked putting his arms under his head to lessen the strain on his achy body. “You said you had questions so ask ‘em, doesn’t mean I’ll answer them all.”

Yusuke folded his arms over his chest and leaned back in his chair with a stubborn look.

“Then we’ll stay here until you do. I live here so it’s no skin off my back.” Yusuke said his face looking as if he didn’t care, but inside he was smirking like an idiot.

Kuwabara was silent. He could see that Yusuke wasn’t kidding and sighed.

“Fine, but if you ask something about Hiei or say another nasty comment about him I’ll wipe that smirk off your face.” Kuwabara said.

Yusuke grinned, happy that Kuwabara was cooperating.

“Yeah yeah, whatever.” Yusuke said before his face grew serious and he leaned forward. “So how long have you been a slave?”

“I’m not a slave…I’m just a temporary aid to Hiei’s mission. I’ve been with him for four years.” Kuwabara said.

Yusuke nodded.

“Four years a long time. You said that you saw your family, right? Are you sure that they mind you leaving them again?”

“They’ll get over it. They know me well enough to know that whatever I’m doing is important if I left them again.” Kuwabara said.

Yusuke looked at those brown eyes and saw sadness and pain in them, a long with determination. He wasn’t sure why he was so curious about Kuwabara but all he did know was he needed to convince the teen that he didn’t have to continue with Hiei, especially now that he was in Spirit World.

Before Yusuke could ask anything else, a knock on his door caught his attention. He sighed and turned to find the door open and the bubbily Botan standing in the door way with a smile like usual.

“Hi Yusuke! Oh!” Botan said, noticing Kuwabara awake and smiled at him.

Kuwabara could feel a vibe off the girl that he couldn’t even explain. There was something un-human about her, and it wasn’t even demon like. She sent off a vibe that of the dead produced, but she wasn’t anything that he had seen before and her vibe was less evil then the ones he had known.

“Kuwabara, Botan. Botan, Kuwabara. Now what do you want?” Yusuke asked, not liking the fact that he was interrupted and most likely it was another case from the spirit world brat Koenma.

“Yo.” Kuwabara said.

“It’s so nice to finally get to meet you! I’ve heard so much about you!” Botan said as she came next to the bed and smiled. “How are you feeling? Better I hope.”

“Yeah thanks…ummmm….how did you know me?” Kuwabara asked.

Botan blinked at him.

“Oh right, you don’t know do you. After we apprehended Hiei we did a background check on you. Your profile is one of the cleanest we’ve seen in a thousand years, especially being held by one so vicious as Hiei.” Botan said.

“Ahhhh….” Kuwabara said, not understanding how there was a file on his life first of all and secondly how she could be so bubbly.

“Hey, enough with the chit chat! I was talking to Kuwabara, besides what are you doing here anyway? Shouldn’t you be carting some more dead people to spirit world or something?” Yusuke asked, annoyed that he was forgot once the deity of death walked into the room.

Botan turned to him and snapped her fingers.

“Right! I almost forgot! Koenma has another case for you!”

Yusuke growled.

“I just finished getting back those artifacts! Geeze, can’t get a break can I?”

“Well, you ARE the spirit detective. Anyway, this one is something really important.” Botan said.

“Just like the last one was really important.” Yusuke growled.

“Listen, you might actually like this one.” Botan said with a wink.

Yusuke raised an eyebrow at this.

“I really doubt that.”

“Oh? So you don’t like martial art competitions?” Botan said with a smile.

Yusuke’s attention was fully taken.

“Alright, what is it?”

“Inflitration.” Botan said with a wink and pointing her finger up in the air.

Yusuke looked at her.

“My new mission’s an infiltration? Into what? Where? Heh. Don’t tell me I’m going to hell…literally.” Yusuke snorted, as he put his hands on his hips.

“Naw, this is a living world job. Genkai, a friend of King Enma Jr., is taking on a pupil. It’s an important matter, and we want you to apply for the position.” Botan said.

“Who’s this Genkai dude?” Yusuke asked.

“She’s a woman, and a human. She’s one of the top five Reiki masters, according to Koenma. She’s made a solitary pursuit of excellence, but she’s getting older and she wants to pass on what she’s achieved to a new generation.” Botan said.

Botan began to explain what Koenma had explained to her, a picture of the baby like prince appearing in her and Yusuke’s head.

Kuwabara listened with an interested ear.

“A lot of demons would stop at nothing to learn the techniques Genkai has developed. Naturally, demons would like to master these techniques themselves. With them, they could wreak untold havoc. There’re legions of evil spirits who behave themselves only out of fear of her exorcism.” The dream like Koenma said.

“That’s the story.” Botan finished.

“So I’m to make sure no demon grabs the post of pupil to this Genkai character?” Yusuke asked.

“Yup! A simple matter of prevention.”

Botan stopped, remembering another thing the demi-god had mentioned to her.

“This will also serve as Yusuke’s training since it’s unlikely we’ll ever get him to submit to formal training and hard work.”

Botan sweat dropped at the memory.

‘He doesn’t need to hear that part.’ She thought before explaining the rest of the mission.

“Keep a particular eye out for Rando, a demon of battle who specializes in defeating martial arts masters. He’s stolen the secrets of 99 martial artists and monks so far, and the buzz is he aims to round that off to a tidy 100 with Master Genkai. Once he steals a technique, he adapts it to his own style and tries it out on humans. No one knows how many reported missing persons are in truth victims of his experiments. We fear the number of victims would at least DOUBLE if he gains Master Genkai’s skills.” Botan said.

The room was filled with a dead silence at the horrible news.

“Hmm…” Yusuke said his hand to his chin as his face turned dead serious. “That’s a lot of people. Not good.”

“No. Not good at all.” Botan said, nodding her head.

“On the other hand, I wanna enjoy my day off, not to mention I still didn’t get my questions answered by Kuwabara…” Yusuke added his face still serious.

Both Botan and Kuwabara fell over, a groan spilling from both of their lips.

“You’d actually COMPARE the two?! Besides you can ask Kuwabara those questions ANOTHER TIME!” Botan said, aggravated.

“Hey! I can’t be on the job ALL the time!! Besides, it’s been buggin’ me that I know nothin’ about this guy, k?!” Yusuke growled.

Botan looked as if she was ready to strangle the guy.

“I forgot to mention that you’re slated for a BONUS if you complete this mission.” Botan said with a sly look on her face, though a look of annoyance still on her face.

“Bonus?” Yusuke said with doubt.

Botan nodded and reached behind her, pulling out a ticket.

“This! A ringside seat at the mixed martial arts match in the Tokyo Dome!” Botan shouted as if she was telling Yusuke he had won a full paid trip to Disney World.

“Yee-hah! I’m on the case!” Yusuke shouted. “WE must stop that creep for humanity’s sake!”

Yusuke stood proud in the mist of his room, while Botan cheered for him as he started to laugh.

“Right on!”

“What a load of crap!”

Yusuke stopped his laughing and turned to the forgotten man that was now on his feet.

“You woulda risked ALL those innocent people’s lives if you weren’t bribed?!” Kuwabara said, with fire in his eyes.

Yusuke felt a cold chill go down his spine.

‘Whoa! His energy seemed to spike up!’ Botan thought as she stared at the man.

“Listen here punk, I know I have no clue about what’s goin’ on, but I do know what Reiki can do, especially in the wrong times. It’s the flow of aura that surrounds the human body for cryin’ out loud~ If you can control it you can acquire all kinds of powers, like me and my Spirit Sword. Sometimes you can use it to have powers like pulverizing rocks by concentrating energy in your fist, or healing the sick and injured with your own life force. If someone like Rando got his hands on the kind of power this Master Genkai has; her level of skill, then they could blow people away without even TOUCHING them!” Kuwabara said with a glare.

Yusuke looked shocked.

“You serious?!”

“He’s right, Yusuke. It’s the same power you have to use your Spirit Gun.” Botan said.

‘Crap, I didn’t think of it like that…’ Yusuke thought. ‘Although I still want those tickets…it takes two YEAR reservations just to get the NOSE BLEED seats!’

“When is this tourney taking place?” Kuwabara asked, looking at Botan.

“Huh…” she said, not sure if she should tell him or not. “In a few days.”

“Good, enough time for me to train.” Kuwabara mumbled.

“What?!” both Yusuke and Botan said.

“I’m not leaving the fate of innocent people’s lives in the hands of a selfish bastard who only cares about his stupid ‘bonus’.” Kuwabara snorted. “I’ll do it just cause I am WILLING to help!”

Botan seemed to find her self wishing Koenma had found THIS guy to be the Spirit Detective and not Yusuke.

“Hey! You’re not going anywhere!” Yusuke growled, not liking the fact he was getting showed up by Kuwabara.

“You can’t tell me what to do!” Kuwabara said.

Yusuke growled and was in Kuwabara’s face, which surprised Kuwabara a bit.

‘He’s just as fast as Hiei…’ Kuwabara thought, but shook his head, clearing his thoughts.

“You don’t scare me, Urameshi.”

“Well you should be.” Growled Yusuke.

Yusuke couldn’t help but act the way he did. He felt that if he let the teen go that he would be in danger, besides that he felt that he still needed those questions answered.

“Alright boys that’s enough!” Botan said, pushing the two apart. “I think it’s a great idea if Kuwa-chan goes with you Yusuke!”

Kuwabara blinked at Botan and blushed at what she had called him.

“What?!” Yusuke shouted, not able to believe his ears.

“Think about it!” Botan said. “You wouldn’t be working on the mission alone and if one of you loses, then there’s still a chance that Rando won’t get Master Genkai’s power.”

Yusuke wasn’t too sure about that and showed it on his face.

“Besides…” Botan whispered into Yusuke’s ear. “You can get to know Kuwabara better and help him train, maybe even convince him that he needs to go back to his family.”

Yusuke looked at the grim reaper. He glanced at Kuwabara who hadn’t noticed. He was also deep in thought at the moment.

‘Yeah…maybe if I train with him I’ll learn why I feel so protective over him and stuff…’ Yusuke thought.

“Sounds good to me, what about you Kwuabara?” Yusuke asked.

Kuwabara seemed to be deep in thought.
‘I wish I knew if Hiei was alright…but maybe if I help them out I can get to see him or even ask.’ Kuwabara thought.

He took in a deep breathe and nodded.

“Fine by me.”

Yusuke grinned and out stretched his hand.

“Welcome to the team.” Yusuke said; referring to himself and Botan.

Kuwabara looked at the hand and then at Yusuke’s face. He could tell that Yusuke was serious. Kuwabara gave him a sincere smile and took the outstretched hand.

“So it’s settled!” Botan shouted, clapping her hands together. “I’ll tell Koenma the new information.”

Botan out stretched her hand and an oar appeared in her hand. Kuwabara’s eyes widened at that, but before he could ask, the beautiful blue haired woman hopped on it and flew out the window towards Spirit World.

“Ok…before we do anything else…just answer me one question.” Kuwabara said.

Yusuke nodded.

“What’s that?”

“What the heck did I just sign up for?”

Yusuke grinned.

“That’s the same thing I asked when I first started working for the toddler. It’s a long story, and if I tell you mine, you have to promise to tell me yours.” Yusuke said.

Kuwabara thought about that for a moment before nodding. Yusuke grinned, happy to get most of his un-answered questions answered.
