Chapter 8: Deals, Gifts, and Phone Calls
*****
“Kurama, I’ve brought you home.”
“What?” they weren’t in the parking garage for Hiei’s condo, he looked out the window to see a familiar home. “No.”
“It’s funny, I never thought that your parents were so close. You weren’t able to run very far away were you?”
“No! I’m not going back!”
“Kurama,” Hiei said sternly, “You can sleep over at my place on the weekends, but other than that I want you here with your family.”
“I can’t go back.”
“I heard the message on your phone.”
“What?” Kurama nearly snarled, “You snoop into my past and then you start listening in on my private messages?”
“You left your phone out. I thought you had fallen asleep with it on. You must have still been listening to it before you passed out…” Hiei ran a hand through the gorgeous hair.
“Hiei, please don’t make me go home.”
“What are you so afraid of?”
“M… my stepfather…”
“What did he do?”
“He doesn’t want me there, okay? Please, don’t make me go back. I can’t face them…”
“…Kurama… the way you speak of your mother…”
“Yes, I miss her, but I’m not willing to go back.”
“You have to.”
“Why?” he was starting to sound his own age with a small pout.
“You miss your mother,” Hiei stated strongly.
“… that doesn’t mean…”
“I never got to see mine, you should treasure your mother while you can.”
Kurama nearly gasped as the two stared at one another for a while, “I… I won’t move back in with them.”
“Hn,” Hiei glared at Kurama.
“You’re a business man, correct? I’ll make you a deal. I will see my mother once a week, but continue to live on my own, okay?”
“You will see your mother twice a week, call her at least three times, and I don’t like you living on your own, so you can move in with me, and we will change the study into your bedroom. Also, you are not to work in that sleazy club ever again.”
“Ah! Hiei!” Kurama screamed as he clutched on to the shorter man tightly.
“You’d never make it as a business man,” he shook his head, luckily he hadn’t started the car yet, or they’d probably be dead about now. To be honest he didn’t think that the redhead would allow him to make such a deal, completely changing his life forever.
“I’ll be happy with my flower shop,” the redhead smiled, nuzzling Hiei’s neck, “and you.”
“Hn, starting tomorrow you will be talking to your mother regularly.”
“…okay…” he cuddle to Hiei as best he could, considering they were in the car.
“Good,” he planted a soft kiss on Kurama's cheek before heading back to the condo.
*****
“Hiei, there’s something that I need to tell you…”
“Hn?” he asked from the couch where he had settled into watch some cartoons.
“You know Yomi, correct?”
“So that was him,” Hiei growled at the redhead making a small snack before they went to bed. He had been too angry to take in the real details of what was going on at the time. Mostly he had seen red.
“Yes… well… I have to warn you that he’s looking for ways to blackmail you. He wanted me to get pictures of us together.”
“So that’s why you’ve tried so hard to get to know me?” he was completely monotone.
“No that’s because you make me horny,” he wrapped his arms around the small frame from behind the couch, kissing his cheek while offering him a ham sandwich.
“So what happened?” he accepted his half of the ‘delicacy’.
“I refused to force you into sex just for pictures, and that’s what led into the scene you saw today.”
“Hn, it’s a good thing that you left you backpack here.”
“Actually I knew that Yomi had reached his edge. I knew he was going to do something stupid. What I wasn’t sure about was you.”
“What do you mean?”
“You’re rather hard to read. I don’t know what drives you. Yomi is driven by his greed and Karasu is driven by his... well, let's say, libido, but you… I don’t really know about you.”
“Neither do I,” he sighed heavily, taking a bite from the sandwich as Kurama settled in the couch next to him.
“Hm, then we’ll figure you out together,” he smiled.
“Hn, and what about you?”
“I’m run by the need to depend on someone.”
“What?”
“I depended on my mother my entire life, and when my stepfather kicked me out, I almost immediately found Karasu, and now… now I’m depending on you to take care of me.”
“I will, as long as you keep to our deal. You are not allowed anywhere near that club or bar. I can get you a job in a near by café.”
“Okay, no wait, there’s that floral shop just down the block from here. What about that place?”
“I’ll see what I can do,” Hiei nodded as Kurama finished his snack and settled his head in Hiei’s lap so he could watch the cartoon more comfortably. “We’re going to have to be careful from now on.”
“What do you mean?” he yawned, placing his hand on Hiei’s knee.
“That Yomi isn’t the type to quit. He won’t stop until he’s gotten what he wants.”
“And he wants you.”
“Actually he wants you,” he corrected, which had Kurama blushing at the tone he said it in, and the hand that now rested on his waist didn’t help any, “but he does want to blackmail me.”
“So what should we do?”
“Nothing.”
“What?”
“A ground rule is that you are not allowed to touch me or speak of me in an unruly manner when outside that door. To be on the safe side we can’t share the same bed anymore, and be sure that all windows and doors are locked before leaving to be sure that no one comes in to bug the place.”
“Aren’t you being a little paranoid?”
“No, just careful. I’ve been in this business a long time. I know what a lot of my competitors are thinking now.”
“Hm?” Kurama squeezed the man’s knee, and turned his head slightly to kiss the strong thigh.
Not used to that attention, Hiei nearly jumped out of his skin, “What? What are you doing?”
He rolled over to look up at Hiei, “It was just a kiss, calm down. I wasn’t going to go any further.”
Hiei still seemed a little flustered, but recomposed himself quickly, “Hn.”
“Unless, of course, you want to go further,” he smiled seductively up at the shorter man, but didn’t move from his comfortable position.
“Idiot,” Hiei rolled his eyes.
“If you don’t want to go further, I recommend that you take your hand away from my ass.” Kurama heard Hiei’s breathing hitch before the rough hand was snatched away from just above Kurama's ass. Hiei’s arm was too short to actually reach the round exterior, but the touch was still rather arousing.
“…S…sorry…”
“You’re so cute,” Kurama got up on his arms and placed a soft kiss on the thin lips.
“Hn,” his exotic eyes formed a glare at the younger teen. How dare he call him... what was he angry about?
“Mm,” Kurama pressed more into the business man, slipping his tongue into the tempting mouth. He moaned softly as he sat up completely, making the kiss deeper, more passionate. “Hiei,” he murmured as he moved the kisses down Hiei’s jaw, to his neck, “Hiei.”
“Kurama,” strong arms wrapped around the taller boy’s body, as he continued to lick and suck at the tempting skin.
“Hiei,” Kurama moved up to kiss the lips again, “good night,” he giggled and went into the bedroom.
“Argh,” Hiei fell over into the couch face first. Taking heavy breaths, he managed to calm his frantic nerves a little. Grabbing a pack of cigarettes from his suit pocket, which he had thrown over the back of the couch, Hiei went outside into the cool air for a little bit of time to think as he inhaled a large amount of nicotine.
“So, you do actually smoke,” Kurama slid an arm over Hiei’s shoulders.
“I thought you went to bed."
“I had to make sure you were still alive,” he giggled, “You didn’t move when I was heading into the room.”
“Hn, don’t you have class in the morning?”
“Mm, it’s fine, I’m already done with my homework.”
“Hn, be careful,” he shrugged the arm off of his shoulder, “don’t forget to call you mother tomorrow, okay?”
“What if she wants me to move back in with her?”
“Tell her that you’re renting an apartment with your employer.”
“That sounds kosher.”
“Hn, what time is it?” Hiei let the smoke slip through his lips, which had Kurama mesmerized.
“Oh, it’s…” he looked at his brown leather watch, “12:03.”
“Hn, here,” he pulled a small package from his pocket.
“Huh? What’s this?”
“Open it.”
Kurama looked at the silver wrapping before opening the gift slowly, revealing a box, which held the necklace Yukina had given to Hiei, “What? What’s this about?”
“Happy birthday.”
“Oh my god, Hiei… I can’t accept this… it’s your family heirloom. I thought you said that you and your sister have matching ones.”
“Actually, Yukina doesn’t wear her gem… Kuwabara does.”
“Her husband?” he gave a slightly confused, “Oh! Hiei! Why did you have to give it to me out here?”
“Because you can’t jump me when we’re out here.”
“Yes, because you’re mean.”
“Hn, I’m actually amazed that you managed to restrain yourself.”
“I never wanted to hurt you Hiei. You have to know that.”
“Hn,” Hiei nodded. He trusted Kurama, and knew that he wouldn’t betray him, especially after not forcing him into sex, which in a lot of cases he wouldn’t have to push very hard.
“I… I really love you,” he held tightly to his birthday present, holding it up to his heart.
“Hn,” Hiei could feel someone watching them.
“Let’s go in so you can help me put the necklace on,” he gave a soft smile.
“I’ll join you in a minute,” he continued working on the cigarette.
“Okay.”
*****
Kurama couldn’t help but smile as he played with the blue gem. It was truly exquisite. Not only was the gem itself beautiful, but the meaning behind it was all the happiness in the world for Kurama. All of Hiei’s love for him went unsaid into the passing of the necklace.
“Kurama,” Hiei’s voice snapped him back into reality.
“Oh, Hiei! You’re home!” Kurama jumped into the man’s arms as he tried to take his shoes off.
“Did you call her?” he held the redhead at arm’s length.
“…no…”
“You had better stick to our deal,” Hiei growled.
“I… I was waiting for you to come home. I don’t want to be alone when I call her.”
“Fine,” Hiei took off his jacket with Kurama's help, of course, “Are you ready?”
“… Yes…” he chewed on his lower lip.
“Come on,” he led the redhead to the couch, where he had Kurama sit between his legs, so they were both laid out on the couch.
“Hm,” he rested his head on Hiei’s shoulder.
“You can at least get it over with and we can have dinner, okay?” he let his cheek rub against the silky crimson hair.
“Mm,” Kurama nodded unsure of everything, but held up his phone and dialed the number to his house, “H-Hello? May I please speak to Shiori?”
“Who should I say is calling?” the young Shuuichi asked politely as he had been taught ever since he was old enough to answer the phone.
“Tell her it’s S-Shuuichi,” he swallowed hard.
“Shuuichi, is that you big brother?”
“P-please, just let me speak with mother.”
“Alright, just a minute. Yo! Mom, someone’s on the phone for you!”
A soft, timid female voice picked up next, “Hello?”
“Um… h-hello, mother…”
A long pause passed between both parties, before a third voice whispered, “It’s okay, just talk.”
“About what?” Kurama asked the unknown voice.
“I don’t know, you usually won’t shut up and now you have nothing to say?”
“Shuuichi? Who is that?”
“He…he’s my roommate.”
“You don’t really mean the room part do you?” Shiori asked even more softly that usual.
“Mother… I’m sorry, but this is who I am.”
,“I know.” was the barely audible response from the other line.
“I’m not coming home, ow.”
“Kurama,” Hiei’s deep voice growled softly.
“I… I mean, I won’t be moving back in, but I do want to see you again… I miss you mother,” a light whimper was heard from the other line, “M-mother? Are you all right?”
“I’m fine, dear. I’m just surprised that you actually want to see me after what happened with your father. I shouldn’t have let him throw out your things.”
“You wouldn’t have been able to do very much against that man.”
“Yes, I didn’t know how to stop him, but I should have tried harder. Please, Shuuichi, please forgive me. Please come home.”
“I’m sorry, I’m staying where I am. I can’t leave.”
“Why, Shuuichi? I swear I’ll be a better mother.”
“You were always a great mother, but I’ve been through a lot of things, and I feel much more comfortable where I am right now.”
“You just like groping me in my sleep,” Hiei smirked whispering so Shiori couldn’t hear through the phone.
Kurama smiled, maneuvering so he could kiss Hiei on the child like cheek.
“Why are you calling now? After all these years, what’s made you change your mind?”
“My roommate, actually, he wanted me to make up with my family.”
“What did he say that made you want to talk to me that I couldn’t convince in three years?”
“He’s a business man, and a very good one,” he smiled softly, holding Hiei’s hand.
“He’s already in business? How old is he?”
“He’s…” actually he had never bothered asking, he just knew that Hiei was older…
“Thirty four.”
“Thirty-fo... You’re thirty four?!” Kurama turned to look into Hiei’s eyes.
“Hn,” Hiei nodded, he loved telling people his age, but it was better when he was with Yukina.
“You’re with a thirty four year old man?” Shiori screeched on the other line.
“Mother, please, I love him.”
“You don’t know what love is at sixteen,” his mother tried to reason.
“I’m seventeen now, and I do! I’ve been through a lot, mother, and he’s been helping me through a lot of trauma.”
“Shuuichi, may I please speak with your roommate?”
“Um…” he found the phone being lifted from his hand.
“Hello… No, he has his own bedroom… yes, three classes at the neighborhood college… no, I’ve found work for him in the floral store down the block… hn… yes, here… you, too…”
“Mother?”
“He sounds nice, Shuuichi.”
“He is, to me at least. He’s usually very rude to people he doesn’t like, ow, you’re mean,” Kurama giggled as he wrestled in Hiei’s arms, the man had pinched him hard in the side again.
“I guess I should leave you two alone. We shall talk again, right?”
“Of course…yes… I love you, mother.”
“… I love you, too, Shuuichi.”
Kurama smiled and hung up his cell as he turned to kiss Hiei on the lips, climbing in the smaller man’s lap.
“Hn,” Hiei huffed under the pressure of the teenager.
“Mm,” soft lips pressed against the thin lips, “I love you, Hiei.”
“If you love me so much, let me breathe.”
Kurama just giggled as he settled atop the business man on the couch.
“Kurama, slow down,” he tried to push the redhead off of him but it just felt so good being trapped underneath the teenager, “Kurama, s-stop!”
“Oh, Hiei,” Kurama tucked Hiei’s head under his chin as he let their arousals rub against one another.
“I said stop.”
“But, I’m… I’m so close.”
“No,” Hiei pushed Kurama off of his lap, and held the thin wrists over his head, “Okay, Kurama? Understand?”
“Yes, you want to be on top,” he slid his legs around the shorter man.
“I told you not for another year,” he let out a frustrated sigh, and the two sat up again.
Kurama pouted and gave a soft huff, “I don’t think that I can wait that long.”
“You’re going to have to, or we’ll be celebrating our one year anniversary in jail,” but this statement only led to the energetic teen jumping him once more.
“Oh, Hiei, you’re so sweet, thinking ahead like that,” Kurama giggled, settling comfortably in his roommate’s lap. Letting out a heavy sigh, he rested his chin on the top of Hiei’s spiky haired head.
“I hate it when you do this.”
Kurama laughed, “I know, it makes you feel short.”
“Hn,” Hiei huffed against chest he was pressed against.
“You smell good,” Kurama murmured, kissing the top of the business man’s head.
“It’s called shampoo, you know about it, you like to use about six different kinds.”
“No, I only use one shampoo and two conditioners.”
“And?”
“I like my hair care products, okay?” he managed to slide around so Hiei was sitting between his legs, and gave Hiei a light massage.
“Hn,” Hiei let his neck relax, leaning forward so Kurama could get at the knots between his shoulders.
“So, how was your day?”
“Fine,” was all he grunted, “You?”
“Other than the almost nerve wracking phone call, it was pretty good. Hey, let’s go out for dinner,” he smiled up at the older man.
“No.”
“What? Why not?” he had become very spoiled with Hiei nodding to his every whim.
“I want to stay like this for a while longer.”
“Mm,” Kurama nearly cooed as they cuddled closer, “You’re so romantic.”

Oh, and I apologize, BlueUtopiah, cause I don't even know what happens yet, I'm gonna be honest and say that I started rambling about the two together and totally forgot about the 'bad guys'. I'll think of something later, but until then, I hope that you enjoy the next to chapters that should be posted sooner or later.
