Labor

A/N: It's really depressing when a story gets 1000 hits and only 31 reviews.

He felt a warmth deep inside him. A warmth that was starting to stir, moving
uneasily deep within him. The warmth seemed to grow frantic, searching for a way
out, twisting and turning. Suddenly it wasn't warm anymore. It was cold, like ice,
freezing his insides. So cold it hurt. Then it was warm again, and beginning to panic.
There seemed to be no exit.

Kuwabara woke in a daze. It was still dark, but the grey of early morning
was trying to seep in through the window. He was covered in sweat, not sure what it
was that had roused him. And then a white hot pain laced through him, starting in his

stomach and seeming to spread throughout his body. He did the only thing he could...
he screamed.

Hiei was awake in an instant, the overhead lights flickering on as hurried

footsteps filled the room. He blinked and took in Kazuma's condition. His mate was
pale, his red hair damp with sweat, and his eyes closed in pain.

"Hiei." The young man let out his lovers name in a sigh, the pain gone for
now.

"Kuwa?"

"I think that was the first contraction." He smiled weakly at his demon. "The
baby's coming."

Hiei was speechless. He thought he'd be prepared for this, thought he
would be able to take charge of the situation. But at Kuwabara's words he froze, and
he could do nothing.

He looked to the others who were standing in the doorway. His red eyes
were wide and filled with something the others had never seen. He was afraid for his
mate's safety.

Genkai sighed. Hiei wasn't going to be much help. She looked at Kurama.
"Well, can you help or are you just going to be in the way?"

Kurama had a faraway look, like he was already making plans. "We'll have
to prepare him for surgery. I have the right tools and plants."

"Then get to it." She looked at the others. "Yukina, you'll be needed here.
Shizuru you need to stay as well. Everyone else out."

Yusuke glared at her. "Bu-"

"I said out Yusuke, Kuwabara will be needing Hiei more than you. If you're in
here he'll try to put on a brave face."

Keiko wrapped her arms around Yusuke and lead him out of the room
gently.

"Botan, you need to inform Koenma and Aikichi."

"Yes, of course."

"All right move it people, we have a baby to deliver!" She let her gaze meet
Hiei's who nodded in thanks.

"You stay where you are Hiei, you have the most important job. Someone
has to hold his hand."

The contractions were closer together now, with hardly any time in between.
Kuwabara clutched Hiei's arms and screamed in pain.

"Do something fox." Hiei managed to whisper.

"It's alright Kuwabara, calm down." Kurama had just applied the natural
painkiller to his patient. "I'll begin in a moment."

"Hiei?"

The fire demon look down at his mate. Cerulean eyes gazed at him, they
were a little wider than usual, a little uncertain.

"What is it Kuwa?"

"I don't know if I can do this." He hissed as a contraction went through him,
though it wasn't as bad as it had been. The painkillers were working.

"No turning back now... Baka." Hiei tried to smirk but failed.

Kuwabara grimaced. "Next time it'll be your turn... Shrimp."

This time Hiei smiled. "You've surprised Kuwa."

"What do mean?"

"Most mates would be threatening to casterate their lovers by now."

Kuwabara glared at the smaller man. "And where exactly would I be without
you? And you call me stupid."

"Kuwa..."

"I'm ready to begin." Kurama's voice intruded.

"Go for it." Kuwabara murmered, his gaze locked with Hiei's, eyes watering.
After all, not all of the pain could be blocked.

"We're all here for you Kazuma-kun." Yukina whispered. "You too nii-chan."

"Shizuru, get ready to pull the baby free." The fox's voice was soft and
steady.

"Roger."

Kuwabara continued to hold onto Hiei, taking comfort from his mate.

"How are you doing?" Hiei asked, resting his forehead against the ningen's.

"Like a demon's cutting me up."

Shizuru snickered, and quiet, "That's not funny" came from Kurama.

"Now Shizuru."

Shizuru reach into the newly created opening and pulled a squirming and
bloody baby out into the cold air. The babe promptly began screaming, deciding that it
was much warmer inside than out and wanted to go back in.

"It's a girl." She smiled at her brother, while Kurama cut the cord. "Lemme
clean her up and bit and then you can hold her."

"Success?" Genkai made it a question.

"I think so... wait a minute... Genkai, come here for a second." Kurama
seemed a little surprised.

"What is it?" The old woman asked.

"Are you wearing gloves?"

"Of course."

"Hold these." The fox handed her the scissors and reached inside
Kuwabara as Shizuru had done before.

"What is it Kurama? What's wrong?" Hiei asked, his voice holding the
beginnings of panic. Would Kuwabara be okay?

Instead of answering, Kurama pulled another baby into view. "It seems you
are now the proud parents of two instead of one." He smiled. "This is your son."

The others weren't allowed back in until after Yukina had healed Kuwabara
and both babies were cleaned.

When they filed in the room they stopped in their tracks and took in the
scene before them.

Kuwabara lay on the futon, reclined against a large pile of pillows. He looked
tired, but his face glowed with accomplishment. And in his arms was a small small
baby, one with blue eyes and a scattering of black hair.

"Kuwabara." Yusuke's voice caught in his throat.

"This is Yuki, our daughter." Kuwabara murmered softly. "Hiei's holding our
son, his name is Yaiba."

All eyes turned to see Hiei holding another baby. This one had a spattering
of red hair, and eyes the color of blood.

"Kuwabara they're beautiful!" Keiko cooed.

"Shizuru! I want a baby!" Botan whimpered, hanging onto her lover's arm.
"They're heavenly."

"You probably won't think that if we get stuck changing diapers." But she
smiled anyway. "Good going baby bro."

"Thanks." He smiled and handed Yuki to Hiei. "Now, if no ones minds... I
need a nap."

Several chuckles were heard and Rinku stepped forward, holding a large
basket. "I made it myself, I'm just glad I made it so big." He set the large woven mass
next to Hiei.

"Thanks Rinku."

"Your welcome."

"All right people, show's over, let the new mother get some rest." Genkai
ushered everyone out until only Koenma and Aikichi were left. "That goes for you too
toddler."

"In moment." He looked at the new parents. "I have a message from
Mukuro."

Hiei placed both babies in the basket before looking at the Godling. "And?"

"As soon as Kuwabara is able she wants the two of you to go the Makai."
Koenma said gravely.

"Did she say why?" Kuwabara asked, worry evident in his voice.

"No... but she was most insistent that you bring the baby." Koenma's
golden eyes look thoughtful.

"Won't she be surprised." Aikichi snickered. "Come on Koenma, let's leave
them alone now." When he hesitated she smiled. "I have something important to tell
you." Her eyes flicked to Kuwabara and their gazes locked.

Kuwabara snickered as the two immortals left the room.

"What's so funny?" Hiei asked.

"I think Aikichi's pregnant." Kuwabara's snickers turned to giggles.

"Why is that funny?"

"She's Neko Youkai." The red head said between giggles.

When Hiei still looked puzzled Kuwabara rolled his eyes. "She's gonna have
a litter."

Realization dawned on Hiei, his eyes widening at the thought of five to six

little Aikichis running around. Then they heard a thump in the hallway.

"Koenma? Are you okay?"

Kuwabara burst out laughing. The Prince of the Spirit World had fainted.

A/N: Had to add something funny in there. And I was serious about getting 1000 hits
and only 31 reviews. Reviews are not only encouraging for whatever fic they're from, but
to all my writing. I find it much easier to write on my original work when I'm in a good
mood. All right, that's enough self-pity from me.
