Unexpected Trouble

Disclaimer: I do not own Yu Yu Hakusho or any of its characters. I do not gain anything from this other than the intense pleasure of sharing my pathetic attempt at writing something coherent so please don’t sue.

dannigurl: This is chapter 8. I think the story has been going too slow so I’ll try to pick up the pace and let stuff start to happen. Thanks for all the reviews so far and of course more are welcome. Vinny thanks for the review even though it seems to be a bit on the sarcastic side. My friend said that because the chapters are short that they are boring. Please let me know if you agree with her or not. It’s really hard to write long chapters because most of the time I don’t have a clue what I’m going to write and I don’t have time. I’ll try my best. I’ll write at least 8 pages before I post a chapter next time. And for KEIKO fans, don’t read this chapter cause I HATE her and I might make her look bad and desparate. Well here goes nothing…..CHAPTER 8 and remember REVIEW REVIEW REVIEW !!!!!!!!!

UNEXPECTED TROUBLE
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

It has been one entire week since Kurama has been in school, which officially disqualifies him from winning the Perfect Attendance Award eight years in a row. He didn’t really mind because he had the most wonderful week of his entire life. The thought of spending everyday for the rest of his life the way he did the past seven days made him giddy.

Kurama never imagined that he could ever love someone as much as he loved Yusuke, but he was pleasantly proved wrong. He found that he couldn’t go even a minute away from Yusuke without feeling a deep aching loss. A dark, depressing force that threatened to rob him of his sanity. It was an intensely scary feeling.

Trying to focus on anything was almost impossible because all he could think of was Yusuke’s smile or his laugh or his scent or even the way his hair fell on his face when it was wasn’t gelled down. Yusuke was everything he had ever hoped for and oh so much more.

They had spent everyday learning and discovering every inch of each other’s bodies. Making love until their spent eyes could not blink without a lot of effort. But it wasn’t just making love. They had taken turns making breakfast for each other, Yusuke being a surprisingly good cook.

Many nights found them on the roof, talking about what their lives were like before they first met. When talking about past relationships or sexual encounters, Kurama was careful not to mention Hiei. Somehow knowing that it would not go over well with Yusuke. All in all, Kurama could not be happier even if he tried.
The sky was a dull, dreary gray, hinting at the potential chance of showers. The sun was hidden behind dark gray clouds, chasing the sun’s rays away. Even the dismal weather could not dampen Kurama’s high spirits. He had just spent the last few hours in the arms of the man that he loved and nothing could bring him down.

He sauntered casually into his first class, ignoring the looks of adoration from both boys and girls. The only eyes that he met were those of Mena. He walked over to her, watching as a faint blush crept over her cheeks.

“Hello Mena. I just wanted to tell you thank you for what you did about a week ago” he said with his trademark gently smile. Her cheeks getting even redder “You’re welcome Suuichi but I didn’t do anything.”

He frowned. “Yes you did. You gave my friend Yusuke that note for me.”

“No I didn’t. I wasn’t in school for quite some time. I was ill. Today was my first day back and this is….this is the first time we’ve ever really spoken to each other.”

“Oh, I am sorry. It seems as though I am mistaken. I have been sick also. I suppose I’m not as recovered as I thought I was. I am pleased that you are feeling well once again and I’m sorry for taking up your time.”

“Anytime Suuichi. Whatever you want I’m your girl. I-I mean I’m the person you want. No, the person th-that can help you.”

“Thank you Mena.” With a slight, polite bow, he moved towards his seat.

He sat in his seat with an uncharacteristic vacant, far away stare in his eyes. He hadn’t even noticed that his teacher had entered the class and that the day’s lesson had begun. *What is going on? I know I gave that note to Mena. But she said that I didn’t and she would have no reason to lie. So if that wasn’t her then who was it?*

Kurama rubbed his hand on his neck in frustration. There was something going on and it just alluded him as to what it was. Giving up for the moment he decided on focus on more…..pleasant thoughts. His thoughts once again drifted to Yusuke and how much he loved the other boy. Kurama’s hand unconsciously touched the love bite that Yusuke had given him just the night before.

Just think of raven-haired boy’s mouth on his neck was enough to give Kurama an erection. He laughed at his reaction because of a single thought and was surprised to hear his name.
“Suiichi! Would you care to answer the question?” his teacher asked him.
“98i plus or minus radical 5” Kurama answered promptly, dashing the other students’ hopes of him finally being caught unaware.

Yusuke twisted impatiently in his seat, wishing that time would just hurry up. He wanted the day to end as quickly as possible. He didn’t want to see *her* anytime soon. After he had finally dragged himself back to his own house, his mother had told him that Keiko had called for him numerous times. He hadn’t bothered to call her back because she would have a lot of questions. Questions that he wasn’t prepared to answer.

He also didn’t want her to be anyway near Kurama. That would cause a whole lot of trouble. See, the thing is….Yusuke never really got around to breaking it off with Keiko. She still thought that they were going out and he didn’t know how to break it to her. He was at a total loss for words.

What was he supposed to say? ‘Hey Keiko, I’m sorry but I love you but not the passionate love I share with Kurama. It’s been fun and you’re a great girl but what can I say? You just don’t do it for me’. He doubted that would go over very well with her.

Running his fingers through his greaseless hair (by the request of Kurama) Yusuke racked his brain for a way to tell Keiko the truth without hurting her too much. Five minutes later he was still at a loss. *Well I guess I’ll think of something sooner or later. I just have to keep her from finding out about Kurama and keep Kurama from finding out that I haven’t broken up with her as yet* Walk in the park. Yea…right.

It’s the end of the day and Kurama and Yusuke had decided to meet each other at an outdoor café. When Yusuke arrived, Kurama had already gotten a table for them. Kurama got up as Yusuke approached pulling his lover close and giving him an extremely passionate greeting. They finally broke apart each laboring to get breathe air into their oxygen deprived lungs.

“What do you say we forget lunch and just go someplace a little more……private?” Yusuke said giving Kurama shivers at his suggestive words.

“We shouldn’t Yusuke. I want to spend some time with you without having my brain turned to mush.”

Yusuke gave a smug smile. Delighted that he had such an….interesting effect on Kurama. As he was about to reply, the male and very attractive waiter came to take their order. He introduced himself as Evan and kept his eyes trained solely on Yusuke.

Neither Yusuke or Kurama missed the appreciative gleam in his eye as his gaze lingered on Yusuke’s body. Yusuke’s megawatt smile or the subtle flirting between Yusuke and Evan did not go unnoticed by Kurama who was dangerously close to losing his cool if this came went on for much longer.

“Are you ever going to take our order or am I going to have to wait until you finish flirting with *my boyfriend*? His cold eyes glittering evilly. Evan gave Kurama a startled look as if noticing for the first time that he was actually there. Evan took their orders and went to get their food giving Yusuke one last longing look.

“Nice ass don’t ya think?” Yusuke questioned, leaning past Kurama to look at a retreating Evan. Not receiving an answer, Yusuke glanced at Kurama and started to laugh uncontrollably at the look on Kurama’s face. To say that Kurama was upset would be an understatement. He was murderous!

“Relax, Kurama. I was just messing with you. I wouldn’t have pegged you as the jealous type.” Realizing that he had not chosen the right words, Yusuke sighed and tried again. This time taking Kurama’s hand in his, he said, “ Kurama I was just joking around. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to upset you. I’m not interested in Evan. I love you and *only* you. You are the most important thing in this world to me. Nothing can change the love I have for you. There is *nothing* that can break us apart, especially not Evan. I love you too much to let that happen. I’m sorry for being such an idiot. Please don’t be mad.”

“Its ok Yusuke. I overreacted. But don’t do that again because next time you won’t get off this easily.” Smiling he leaned across the table to place a chaste kiss on the other boy’s lips, desiring to do so much more. “Just remember who gave you that mark.” Kurama said, watching as Yusuke’s hand touched the mark that Kurama had bitten and suckled just last night.

Brown eyes darkened and dilated as their owner remembered the exquisite feeling of getting that bite. The younger boy suddenly got up, grabbing Kurama’s hand, moving towards the inside of the café.
Kurama was bewildered. “Yusuke what are you doing? Where are we g--?”
“Yusuke…Kurama!” Kurama recognized Keiko’s voice just as he felt the sudden loss of warmth where Yusuke’s hand was just moments ago. Kurama barely made it out of the way as the young girl launched herself at his lover. He quickly schooled his facial expression to the usual tranquil look while jealousy tore at his insides like rapid dogs that just had a taste of fresh blood.

“You sure are taking this well,” Kurama said suspiciously, looking at the guilty glances that Yusuke was giving him.

“I don’t know what you mean. We’ll talk in a few minutes but first, I need to greet this handsome, dangerously sexy man I call my boyfriend properly.” And with that Keiko slid her hands up Yusuke’s arm to wrap the offensive things around his neck. She leaned in, firmly pressing her lips onto the startled boy’s lips, flicking her tongue to taste the sweetness that Kurama knew so well.

Kurama stood stock still, a dangerous glow emanating from his body. “That lousy son of a bitch didn’t tell her that he was with me!” Fuming, Kurama used all the will power he possessed not to throttle Yusuke into a pulp! He couldn’t stand much more of this.

He had to leave. Watching Keiko throw herself at Yusuke was bad enough but to watch Yusuke not throw her back was too much to bear. With that he walked out of the café, leaving Yusuke with his true love. His heart hurting because Yusuke was just using him to satisfy his needs, needs that Keiko wasn’t fulfilling.

Yusuke pulled himself away from Keiko, saying that he needed to breathe when she groaned in protest. He calmly told her that he didn’t want to make Kurama feel uncomfortable, when he was the one who was in discomfort. He had felt the rise in Kurama’s ki when Keiko had kissed him. He didn’t want to physically shove her away because he didn’t want to embarrass her.

He turned around, ready to face the impending music. However, he was shocked to see that Kurama was no longer there. He glanced at the door, seeing Kurama’s hair trailing behind him as he fled the café. On the ground was a single perfect black rose. This was Kurama’s signature, signaling that harm would come to someone who had wronged him and Yusuke knew just who had wronged Kurama this time.

“Fuck.” Was all he said.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Yusuke had told Keiko that he would see her later and that they would talk then. He needed to go after Kurama. He couldn’t leave things the way they were. There was too much at stake for misunderstandings. Yusuke practically flew to Kurama’s house his labored breaths proof of his hurry. He felt Kurama’s agitated ki inside and knew that he was home and very, very, very upset.

He rang the doorbell and impatiently waited for Kurama to open the door. After repeated rings, he was not surprised to find the door still firmly closed. “Kurama! I know you’re in there.” The thought that he sounded like a cheesy actor in a romance flick passed quickly from his mind. “Open the door….please. I really need to talk to you.”

Listening carefully for any response from inside and receiving no indication that Kurama was even listening, Yusuke gave a long, depressed sigh. He was determined for Kurama to hear what he had to say. “Kurama, if you don’t want to open the door then I’ll just sit right here. On your doorstep. In front of the entire world and pour my feelings out for them to hear. I realize you don’t care if your neighbors hear what I have to say, how much I love you and that I want us to go back to the way we were.”

Yusuke felt extremely guilty for using Kurama’s need for privacy as a way to get him to come outside but it had to be done. Hopefully it worked. He was rewarded when the door opened but what he saw wasn’t what he had expected.

Kurama had changed his uniform to form fitting jeans and an oversized tee-shirt that made him look extremely vulnerable. His neck and face were flushed a dark pink as if he had been crying. The hastily wiped tear tracks confirmed Yusuke’s suspicions. Kurama *had* been crying.

“Say what you have to say and then get the fuck out of my house.” Kurama said as he swung the door open wider. Wincing at the uncharacteristic use of profanity by the red-head, Yusuke stepped into the hallway and went straight to the living room.

“Please make this quick.” Wariness clouded Kurama’s voice, making Yusuke feel even more guilty. Sitting on the couch he patted the spot next to him, signaling that he wanted Kurama to join him. Yusuke couldn’t stop the stab of pain he felt when Kurama purposefully sat in the chair farthest away from him.

“Kurama….I’m sorry.” Ignoring Kurama’s bark of bitter laughter, Yusuke continued, “I should have told Keiko about us. I just didn’t want to hurt her. She has been there for me everytime I needed her and she loves me and I love her too.” Yusuke could have put his foot in his big mouth, when he saw Kurama’s eyes glisten with unshed tears. Why couldn’t he say anything right?

“No. Wait let me explain. I love Keiko but not the way that I love you. With Keiko, it’s a safe kind of love. No excitement, just stability. I always felt like I was an outsider in our relationship, like I wasn’t a part of me. Like an empty shell, yearning for something that was missing. Now I don’t feel that anymore. With you everything is so much better. This might sound corny but the sun shines brighter, the world more colorful, the sounds more alive and real. You brighten my life. And now I have a reason to get up every morning. You.” Yusuke said softly. “So Kurama please understand. I didn’t tell her because I didn’t want to hurt her, not because I didn’t love you or because I was using you. I love you more than anything or anyone. I value you more than my own life or the life of anyone else.”

Kurama watched Yusuke closely. Hearing and seeing the sincerity of his words in his eyes. Kurama had never felt so loved at this moment. Maybe he was being a fool for believing and forgiving Yusuke so easily, but Kurama believed that he would be a fool if he didn’t. He felt the same way that Yusuke did. He loved him more than anything in this world and any other.

Kurama rose to his feet and walked towards Yusuke, keeping his expression as blank as possible. He wondered how this boy who was always goofing off and saying the dumbest but cutest things could possibly be so serious and poetic. And found the answer to be that’s who Yusuke is. *That’s why I love him so much.*

“I forgive you Yusuke.” Kurama said as he softly pressed a kiss on Yusuke’s warm lips. “Thank you Kurama. Thank you.” Yusuke murmured as he deepened the kiss, moving it from gentle to passionate. He ran his fingers through Kurama’s hair, pulling his head closer to him. The black haired spirit detective delved his tongue into Kurama’s sweet depths while inhaling the scent of roses swirling around him. He felt Kurama’s hands reach to lift his tee-shirt up.

Kurama ground his hips on Yusuke’s, smirking in his mind as he felt Yusuke’s hips rise in answer. He purred his content as he rubbed Yusuke’s hard shaft through the material of the boy’s jeans. His content changed to confusion as he felt Yusuke stop kissing him and pushing his hands against his chest. He slowly opened his eyes to see why his lover was stopping his fun.

“Kurama, I can’t do this right now.” Kurama leaned back, still straddling Yusuke’s hips. “Why not?” Yusuke sighed as he fought his libido to do the right thing. “I want to do this right. I have to get things straight with Keiko first. I don’t want anything between us when we make love again, so I have to tell her.”

Kurama sighed in frustration, realizing the truth in Yusuke’s statement. Mumbling a sullen “ok” he climbed off of Yusuke slowly. He looked on as Yusuke tried to look a little more decent by fixing his clothes, his cock and his hair. They walked to the door and Yusuke opened the door. Pulling Yusuke to him, Kurama angled his head and attacked Yusuke’s neck.

He traced his tongue over his love’s lips, asking for admission, which was promptly given. He searched for Yusuke’s tongue, battling it for dominance. He put all the passion, lust and love that he felt into that kiss, feeling himself become even harder with need. They broke apart when they realized that air was a necessity that they couldn’t ignore any longer.

“A little incentive for you to hurry back.” Kurama said, licking Yusuke’s lips one last time before he stepped back. “And hurry back because there is something that I want to tell you.” Yusuke frowned as he thought about what Kurama wanted to talk about but brushed it aside. “I’ll come as fast as I can. Be ready because I need you now more than I ever have before. Save your strength, you’ll need it.” With a wink, Yusuke jogged down the stairs and out of sight.

Kurama wasn’t sure how Yusuke would react to the fact that he and Hiei had been lovers. He did know that it wasn’t fair to keep it from Yusuke. Kurama closed the door and headed upstairs. He was halfway up when the doorbell rang. Smiling, Kurama raced down the stairs and opened the door. “That was quick Yu----. Hiei…..”

******************************

He fidgeted uncomfortably on the bed. He really didn’t want to be here. This was the worse place to say what he had to say but he knew he needed to. He looked at the girl sitting beside him, her upper body draped casually across his legs. He looked into her soft brown eyes, a light with happiness and content. He dreaded the moment when that happiness would fade into sadness, confusion, hurt and anger.

Shaking his head as if to clear his thoughts, Yusuke took a deep breath. He closed his eyes gathering his strength to finally tell Keiko the truth. He didn’t want to break her heart because he loved her. Not the way he loved Kurama but a more comfortable love. *Well here goes.*

“Keiko, we need to talk.”

“Uh oh, that’s never good,” she laughed, her laughter stilling as she saw that Yusuke didn’t share her amusement. She eyed his serious expression and murmured “Ok.”

“Just let me finish what I have to say before you do anything. You know that I would never intentionally hurt you but I’m hurting and I’ve been hurting a while. By not being true to myself I feel that I’m hurting you too. What I mean is that, I’ve been hiding something from you for a long time and it’s not fair to you. I’m in love with someone else. And I’ve loved that person for years, from the first moment we met.”

Yusuke didn’t try to restrain Keiko as she raised her body off of him. He didn’t restrain her as she struck her palm across his cheek. He looked at her with sad filled eyes, willing her to understand that he never meant to do this to her. Willing her to know how much it hurt him to see her in such pain.

“Who is she? What does she have that I don’t? How could you do this to me Yusuke? Wasn’t I good enough for you? Didn’t I love enough? I gave you EVERYTHING!! Why fucking why? Was it because we didn’t have sex is that it? WHY? WHY YUSUKE??!!” She slammed her fists against Yusuke’s chest with every uttered word. Her tears soaked his shirt as he pulled her close to him. He felt the sobs racking her body and it was all he could do not to beat himself up for hurting her. “Answer me Yusuke, please….tell me who is she?”

Yusuke visibly gulped as he realized the enormity of that question. He wasn’t only telling her that he it was Kurama who had stolen his heart but also that he preferred a guy rather than her. Even Yusuke on his off days knew that him saying that would make the pain for Keiko much worse.

“There is no she. It was…is Kurama. He’s the one I love and the one I’ve bee with for the past week. I didn’t know Keiko….I mean we were together when I met him and I couldn’t help the way I felt. If I could I would have. I swear I would have Keiko.”

*********************

Kurama sat in the kitchen with Hiei, sipping the delightful tea that Hiei made for him. Having a weakness for tea, Kurama was always willing to try a new one.

“Mmn,” he said as he took another sip, “this is really good. What is it?”

“Oh let’s just say….it’s my own special blend. Drink faster. Don’t want it to get…..cold.” Kurama frowned in contemplation. *Hiei seems different somehow. I wonder what’s wrong?*

Kurama set his cup on the table, not noticing Hiei’s eyes twitch in annoyance and impatience.

“Hiei, don’t take this the wrong way because I am glad to see you, but why are you here? I thought the mission would take at least more than one week.”

“I uh got done with the uh mission early. Drink your tea Kurama.” Hiei repeated for a second time.

Kurama shrugged off Hiei’s weird behavior. He should be happy that Hiei wasn’t upset about his relationship with Yusuke. Kurama knew that Hiei could smell Yusuke’s scent all over him and that he was taking it pretty well. He drained his cup of the delicious tea and watched as a strangely wicked smile crept across Hiei’s face.

Kurama was about to as Hiei why he was smiling like that when his vision started to blur just a little bit. He shook his head, trying to clear his vision.

“What’s wrong Kurama? You look kinda….dizzy. Would you like me to carry you to your room? I’d be more than willing.” Hiei said with that smile again.

“No I-I’m fine. I-I just n-need to breathe.” But somehow Kurama knew that breathing wasn’t going to be enough and that something was horribly wrong. As spoke those words, his vision got worse as everything became distorted. He held his hands over his eyes and took several deeps breaths.

When he had felt that he had regained some control, he opened his eyes again, his hand shaking slightly.

“Kurama. Kurama! Are you alright? Please tell me what’s wrong?” concerned etched deep in the voice.

“Yusuke?” Kurama whispered, staring confusedly in chocolate eyes.

*********************

Keiko’s eyes widened as what he was saying finally sank in. “Get out Yusuke. Now.” She watched as the raven haired fighter walked dejectedly towards the door and opened it slowly. Stepping through the doorway, he glanced at Keiko who was looking at a picture of the two of them, her tears splattering on the glass like raindrops on a calm sea.

“Keiko…”Yusuke whispered softly, “I still love you.” He left the house, the sound of shattering glass resonating in his mind. * I need Kurama. I need to make sure he knows how much he means to me and that Keiko knows that we’re a couple and in love.* Yusuke sighed, thinking that his day could not get any worse.
