Scene 75 ------------------------------------------- The Next Day

* When Hiei stirs awake he feels that Yusuke is near even before he can get his eyes open. Yusuke is sitting on the bed giving him a spongebath.


Hiei- (Quietly) Yu-suke,..

Yusuke- Don't tell me I shouldn't be doing this.. You did it for Shishi.. Right now, you're nearly in the same state he was.


* Hiei slowly nods, knowing that he's in no physical condition to argue anyway.


Hiei- (Quietly) We have a.. very hungry.. brat,.. Yusuke.


* Yusuke meets Hiei's dull eyes briefly as he nods.


Yusuke- Yeah. I know.. He's going to be strong..

Hiei- (Quietly) J-just like.. you.


* Yusuke pauses as he wipes Hiei's slightly puffy chest. The koorime shifts his gaze toward the ceiling away from Yusuke's sad countenance.


Hiei- (Quietly) I don't.. fear.. death, Yusuke.


* Yusuke closes his eyes.


Hiei- (Quietly) One can only.. elude it.. for so long..

Yusuke- Hiei, I still believe in miracles..

Hiei- (Quietly) I.. have only.. one regret..


* Yusuke opens his eyes to look at Hiei again.


Hiei- (Whispered) Leaving.. my boys.. and you.. and Ku-..(cough)

Yusuke- Enough. Save your strength..

Hiei- (Strained) Save it.. f-for what?!


* Yusuke finds himself at a loss for an answer. When Hiei soon shivers Yusuke sets the small basin of water down on the floor and proceeds to use the big, fluffy towel he brought to dry Hiei off.


Hiei- (Quietly) Hello?


* Yusuke starts to tear up as he makes sure Hiei is covered.


Yusuke- (Quietly) I don't have an answer, Hiei.

Hiei- Hn.


* Yusuke lays down beside Hiei to lend him his own body's warmth.


Hiei- (Weakly) How is.. Kurama.. doing? You two are.. fighting again?

Yusuke- He's great.. Complaining about all the weight he's gaining, but he did that the last time, too..


* Hiei nods slightly, acknowledging that Yusuke has eluded the second half of his statement..


Hiei- (Quietly) He's a.. vain.. fox..


* When Hiei is quiet for several moments Yusuke lifts up onto an elbow to look down at him. Hiei forces his eyes open to look at Yusuke again.


Hiei- (Quietly) As long as I.. lay still.. I can stay awake.. longer..

Yusuke- Makes sense.


* Yusuke impulsively moves a hand up to stroke Hiei's cheek affectionately.


Yusuke- You're still.. handsome.


* Hiei closes his eyes with a weak snort of annoyance.


Hiei- (Quietly) If you.. would've said.. b-beautiful.. I would have.. burned you.


* Yusuke chuckles.


Yusuke- No doubt.. I love you, Sparky.


* After another moment Hiei re-opens his eyes.


Hiei- (Quietly) I have been.. yours.. since..

Yusuke- I know.. You keep reminding me..

Hiei- (Quietly) Hn.. Yusuke,.. have you been.. watching.. Chi and.. Imiko?


* Yusuke shrugs, a little puzzled at Hiei's question.


Yusuke- Imiko has been joining our training sessions with the other boys and Rozie.. He and Chi-boy seem to be pretty..

Hiei- (Quietly) In-sep-erable..

Yusuke- Well, I was just going to say close.. (chuckles) They've been chattering away nearly non-stop about being uncle and nephew.


* Hiei nods.


Hiei- (Quietly) They asked.. so I.. told them.

Yusuke- Yeah. It really bugs Ichy when 'Miko calls him Uncle Ichy.


* Yusuke feels Hiei beginning to slip back into hibernation.


Yusuke- (Quietly) Shh. You rest now, Babe.


* Yusuke strokes Hiei's spikes until the koorime is completely out once more. He then dips his head to brush Hiei's lips. Silently, the Toushin begins to wonder how long it'll be before Hiei won't be able to even come out of hibernation. He lays his head back down beside Hiei's with a sigh.
