Life Goes On

Well, thoth, I thought it was only natural to write a bit on how the children would be dealing with the situation. Since they are demon children, and thus more 'aware' I figured they would have a little more 'knowledge' of what's taking place. They're only around two years old chronilogically, but mentally I would place them more on the level of preteen, perhaps? Believable? :o?

Scene 70 ------------------------------------------- Later That Day

* Kurama is talking with Koenma at the communication station when Chiisai is about to come out of the bedroom hallway. When he hears Kurama and Koenma talking, though, he hides and peers around the corner to watch.


Kurama- .. I'd love to send one of my vines straight across Demon World and make it wrap around Mukuro's neck..

Koenma- A bit testy today, aren't we?


* The godling glances toward Kurama as he continues stamping his paperwork at a leisurely pace.


Kurama- If you were here you would know what Yusuke's been going through.

Koenma- Where is Yusuke?

Kurama- Right now he's out with Hokushin checking the fortress perimeter.. If he didn't get out once in a while he would go crazy.

Koenma- So Hiei's getting worse?

Kurama- The more the baby developes, the more energy it takes from his recovery.. Even Yukina's not much help anymore in her condition..

Koenma- If fire demons weren't so touchy about.. certain things..

Kurama- Yeah.. He's refusing to allow Yukina to give him any blood.. She's been offering, but he absolutely refuses..

Koenma- (Sighs) I suppose that's because he knows that her own pregnancy will require enough of her strength.

Kurama- I know.. Yusuke had a talk with her this morning when she came for her session.. She vowed to stop as soon as she feels that it's becoming too taxing on her.


* Koenma nods, pauses a moment to scan one of the papers closer before stamping it and glancing up toward Kurama again. He knows how much Kurama needs to talk so he continues their conversation.


Koenma- Any word from Yomi lately?

Kurama- He called Yusuke a couple days ago.. He says there's something wrong with Mukuro, but he wouldn't elaborate.. Would you have any clues?


* Koenma lowers his eyes again, contemplating on how to answer Kurama.


Koenma- Lord Mukuro.. is a very proud, secretive woman, Kurama..


* Kurama leans toward the screen, ears pitched forward.


Kurama- Then you do know something..

Koenma- Kurama, please don't press me.. You know my job can't allow me to divulge everything I know..


* Kurama's tail twitches back and forth beside the chair a few times as he stares hard at the Prince. Then he finally sighs and relaxes back into the chair to cross his arms over his slightly larger bulge.


Kurama- Yusuke says he thinks a couple of her brain circuits finally malfunctioned.


* Koenma glances toward the kitsune as he suckles his pacifier nervously a moment, then goes back to work. Kurama watches the godling stamp a few more papers before pausing to lift another. When the baby's eyes bug out slightly Kurama leans forward.


Kurama- What? - Is that Hiei's..?!

Koenma- No. Relax, Kurama.. It's a birth announcement.


* Kurama leans back again and half consciously begins to rub his side.


Kurama- Can't be mine.. I'm not due for another two and a half..

Koenma- No.. This paper says that Ryuji is the Father.. The carrier is.. (snickers) uh.. someone you wouldn't know.

Kurama- Ryuji? You mean Hiei's brother?

Koenma- Yes.

Kurama- Well, that explains why he hasn't been back around..


* Yusuke comes in as Kurama speaks. The Toushin notices Chiisai, waves a greeting to him, then goes over to Kurama.


Yusuke- What's why who hasn't been where?


* Kurama looks up at Yusuke smirking, then lets his Alpha greet him with an affectionate kiss. Koenma rolls his eyes when the former Detective lifts a hand to cover the screen as he does so.


Kurama- I got bored so I gave Koenma a call.


* Yusuke lowers his hand and looks toward the screen.


Koenma- Yo.

Yusuke- Hey. Didn't see you there.

Koenma- I'm glad to see that you're in a better mood today, Yusuke.

Kurama- Koenma says that Ryuji has mated.. He's going to be a daddy just like you, love.

Yusuke- Ryuji? - Oh, yeah.. Hiei's brother.. So he's got mated huh?

Koenma- You sound almost jealous, Yusuke.


* Yusuke scowls as Koenma chuckles. Kurama rolls his eyes then looks back at Koenma.


Kurama- I'm going to go now since Yusuke's here to entertain me.


* Koenma nods.


Koenma- As soon as I get some time I'll be down to see Chiisai.. But you tell him that I said hello.

Yusuke- Why not tell him yourself?


* Kurama turns as Yusuke waves Chiisai over, but the boy stays partially hid.


Koenma- Of course, I can take a moment if he's there.

Kurama- Come on, Chi.. Come talk to your Uncle Koe.


* Now Chiisai comes over to stand beside Kurama.


Koenma- Hello, ChiChi.. You know you don't have to be shy with me.


* Kurama hooks in the set of headphones as he stands, then hands them to Chiisai.


Kurama- Here. Put these on and chat with Uncle Koe using the keyboard.


* As Chiisai hops up onto the chair and takes the headphones Koenma puts on his own wireless headphones. Yusuke then takes Kurama over to sit on the couch and cradles him as they snuggle. It isn't long until they watch Koenma grin goofily and the small boy giggles. Kurama sighs and looks up at Yusuke.


(#) Yusuke- So what's up with the kid?

(#) Kurama- His name is Chiisai, Yusuke.


* Yusuke looks back down at Kurama.


(#) Yusuke- I know what his name is, 'Rama.

(#) Kurama- His Papa is very sick..

(#) Yusuke- Newsflash, I know this.


* Yusuke looks back toward Chiisai. He is waving good-bye to Koenma.


(#) Kurama- He feels that he'll be all alone if we.. lose Hiei..


* Yusuke sighs deeply and glances back down at Kurama. Chiisai watches the screen go black, then slowly removes the headphones. He sits still a couple more moments, then hops down off the chair. Yusuke watches him start back toward the bedroom hallway.


Yusuke- Hey, Chi.


* Chiisai stops and looks toward Yusuke. He motions the boy over. Chiisai hesitantly obeys his Papa's Alpha. Kurama sits up and Yusuke surprises Chiisai when he gathers him up onto his lap.


Yusuke- Hey, I know things look pretty bad right now.. But you know what?


* Chiisai looks up at Yusuke curiously.


Chiisai- What, sir?

Yusuke- I'm not gonna tell you until you call me..

Chiisai- Uncle YuYu?


* Kurama chuckles when Yusuke tickles Chiisai making the boy giggle.


Yusuke- Smart a--..

Chiisai- Aww.. I'm not all that smart..

Yusuke- Trust me, kid.. I know what I'm talking about.

Chiisai- You know what?


* Yusuke hesitates as he glances a grin at Kurama.


Yusuke- What?

Chiisai- If you call me Chi, I'll call you Uncle Yusuke.. Deal?


* Yusuke snickers as he nods and ruffles Chiisai's bi-colored spikes.


Yusuke- Okay. You got a deal, Chi.


* Yusuke then pulls Chiisai closer to embrace him.


Yusuke- You look so much like your Papa.


* Chiisai closes his eyes.


Chiisai- (Quietly) Yeah.. I know.. But I'll never be like him..

Yusuke- Nobody is exactly like anyone else.. We don't want you to be anybody but our Chi-boy.. Okay?


* Kurama reaches over to caress Chiisai's cheek.


Kurama- That's right.. We'll love you just because you're you.

Yusuke- Yeah.. No matter what happens with your Papa.. And, believe me, we don't want him to.. go away, either..


* Chiisai nods against Yusuke's chest.


Yusuke- You'll always have a home here, son.


* Slowly, Chiisai nods, then he squirms down off of Yusuke's lap.


Chiisai- I'm going to go back to Papa so I can be there when he wakes up again.

Yusuke- Okay.


* They watch Chiisai hurry off then Yusuke pulls Kurama back over into his arms. Kurama hugs Yusuke's head as he hides his face against his mate's neck.
