Seven

AN:  Okay, my beta is having some health issues, so she did a great job in editing this story for me.  This is the last chapter for this story.  I planned on doing one for each of the other three. But I'm not going to waste my time if you're not interested.  If you're a faithful reader of my stuff you should know by now that I don't beg and pant for reviews.  This time, though, I need to because I need to know if I should go on and do the next three. Thanks.

Seven - Just A Split Second

From his angle, where he was surrounded by demons, Yusuke could see where another bunch of the horde was pushing Kuwabara to.  A quick assessment of the battle they were all embroiled in - thanks to another mission from their part time boss - told the experienced Toushin everything he needed to know.  Kurama and Hiei were fighting back to back, tooth and nail, doing everything they could to curb the population of this nest of human-eaters.  They, too, were trapped and would never make it to their team-mate in time.  Yusuke was the closest, but he was nearly drained from the half-a-day-long battle.

The former Detective closed his eyes, summoned as much of what he had left in him, and began to press his way through the throng.  Kuwabara was nearly at the planned trap - A large indention in the base of a mountain.  The carrot-head was too busy swinging his energy swords right and left.  Not paying attention to the two larger demons hiding in wait near each side of the indention.

Yusuke had to get there.  He could feel them powering up, readying to send their blasts at his human friend.  He knew that whichever of them took their blasts would not survive.  But Yusuke was still the same noble-hearted guy he'd always been.  Unfortunately, his knowledge proved to be fatally correct this time.  All Kuwabara could do was stare - stricken with grief and disbelief - as Yusuke's ashes twirled away into nothingness.
