Chapter Six
Elfleda ran down the dirt path barefoot holding something in her hands. A bright smile was on her young face. Her eyes were shining with the joy of innocence. She ran to a beautiful woman with long golden hair and blue eyes.
“COUSIN SHINA COUSIN SHINA!! LOOK WHAT I GOT!”
“Elfleda how many times do I have to tell you I am not your cousin?”
“Well you aren’t my mom, or my sister but you take care of me so I call you cousin.” She smiled up at her. “I found this for you!” she held open her hands showing she had a smoothed stone from the river. She raised her hands as if the woman would see it better for her.
“It is beautiful Elfleda. But the reason I take care of you as I have told you before is because you are next in line after me.”
“I don’t wanna be the queen. Queens are all official and don’t really have fun. I want to be a traveler! They get to go around having fun going into bars and they are always laughing!”
“You were born to be the next leader. It is destined and written in the stars.”
“Fuck the stars.”
“ELFLEDA! Where did you hear such a word?”
“From you last week when you stubbed your toe.”
“You are never to repeat that word.”
“I will stop when you do.” Elfleda looked up at the blond woman who was scowling at her.
“That is very childish.”
“That is because I AM a child.”
The memory faded as her eyes closed and she went back to resting. Now this time it was Hiei’s time to fall to the floor with a thud and into darkness.
