Scene 69 ------------------------------------------- Hiei's Bedroom

* When Kurama carries Chiisai in they see that Hiei has already worked himself into an upright position against the headboard of the big bed.


Hiei- Chi,.. come here to me,.. son..


* Chiisai looks up at Kurama a moment, then unfurls his wings, shoves away from him, then turns and hovers another moment looking toward Hiei. He sniffles again, then floats over closer. Hiei can feel his small son's emotions of fear, guilt, and sadness mixing inside him tumultuously. Hiei manages to raise one of his arms. Gently, Chiisai coasts over to settle into his Papa's embrace. The koorime looks up at Kurama, but he doesn't have to tell the kitsune to leave. Hiei then looks back down at Chiisai who is hiding his face against his chest. Hiei wraps his arms around his son as tightly as he can.


Chiisai- (Whimpered) I'm.. so sorry,.. P-Papa.. I j-just..

Hiei- (Quietly) Shh.. It wasn't.. anger, Chi..


* Chiisai looks up at him with tear-filled eyes.


Hiei- (Quietly) I don't.. want you to.. be so.. sad..

Chiisai- I don't want to lose you, Papa.

Hiei- Chi,.. you're a.. brave boy.. You get that.. from me.. But you also.. get these.. emotions.. from your Momma Shishi..

Chiisai- I'll never be as brave as you..

Hiei- Nonsense.. Someday.. you'll have someone.. to protect.. and you'll do it..

Chiisai- I want to protect you, Papa.. But I can't..


* Hiei embraces his son closer again when he sobs. Then Chiisai senses Hiei's baby for the first time. He jerks back with a hiss to stare at his Papa's slightly rounding belly. Since most demons usually carry for only three months, the unborn babies develop rather quickly inside their carriers. Hiei watches Chi hesitantly move a hand out to touch his middle. The small boy swallows and looks up at Hiei.


Hiei- That.. is your new.. baby brother..

Chiisai- This.. is what's keeping you so.. weak..

Hiei- He is my son.. as much as you and your brothers are..

Chiisai- It.. He feels me.. I can feel it..


* Hiei's half-lidded eyes widen a bit when Chiisai's anger begins to transform him. Horns begin to show and he tints to a familiar green color. The koorime forces himself to remain calm to see what kind of a decision his young son will reach. After a couple tense moments Chiisai raises his red eyes to look at Hiei again.


Hiei- I'm not.. strong enough to.. stop you.. If you truly.. want to.. kill him..


* Chiisai lowers his eyes back down to his Papa's belly. He reaches out a clawed hand to touch it again. For several moments, the small boy struggles with his anger and his thoughts, then slowly he melts back into his normal form and slumps forward against Hiei's chest sobbing.


Chiisai- (Sobbing) I can't! - I can't.. blame him,.. Papa.. I'm so sorry.. Please..


* Hiei sighs with relief and embraces Chiisai again. The boy feels his Papa's weariness and closes his eyes.


Chiisai- Isn't there.. any way..?

Hiei- I don't want you.. to worry about this.. I need to.. lay down.. Will you stay here with me, son?

Chiisai- If I.. could.. I would stay with you.. forever, Papa.. I love you..


* Chiisai helps Hiei lay down. Hiei nods with a weary sigh.


Hiei- (Quietly) I know, Chi.. I love you, too..


* Chiisai curls up against his side.


Hiei- You.. are more.. fire demon.. than any of my.. sons.. You must never.. lose your.. hon-or..


* Hiei's eyes slowly slide shut. Chiisai feels him go into hibernation then raises his head to look toward the door when it cracks open slowly. The twins look in at them worriedly.


Ichiro- Chi?

Jiro- Are you both..?

Chiisai- We'll be okay.. Sorry I worried you two..

Ichiro- You know that we'll always be here for you, ChiChi.


* Chiisai nods slowly. When the door pulls shut again he lays his head back down to stare at Hiei's belly. Once more he reaches his hand out to touch the slight swell. Again he feels the tiny pulse of energy that answers his touch. Chiisai swallows and closes his eyes again. This time he sends comforting thoughts toward the energy and he feels it calm down as he slips off to sleep himself.
