Chapter 6

Oh don’t give me that look! Yeah, yeah I know, ‘where the hell have you been?’ ‘why haven’t you fucking updated?’ ‘it’s been three FUCKING MONTHS!’ Err…Sorry. I don’t haven any excuses. I just haven’t been in the mood to write. I do this every now and then, I get in a great big writing mode where I’m stuffed full of ideas and then I kinda wind down and suddenly am just not in the mood. And I was reading through the previous chapters of this story and this next one said ‘yuck’. Especially this one. Hiei’s way OOC. I think I managed to keep Kurama and Yusuke in character but I failed totally with Hiei. So I’m revising this as I type it so it may suck.

Chapter six

When Hiei arrived home and sensed who was waiting for him the ‘damn’ mantra instantly turned to ‘fuck’. For that damn nosy fox was waiting for him. Hiei quickly came up with some lame-assed story for him and said a little prayer that Kurama would buy it.

Hiei entered the living room where Kurama was sitting on the coach, staring into the fire. As the fire-demon entered the two held a silent staring contest.

Hiei lost.

“Where is Kuwabara, Hiei?”

“The doctors.”

“Bullshit.”

Hiei startled at Kurama’s words. It wasn’t often one heard Kurama use such vulgarity.

“You’re a terrible liar Hiei. I know something’s wrong with Kuwabara. I could tell the first time I called you. Now *where* is he?”

Hiei kept his stoic pose and tried to come off as merely annoyed. “It’s none of your concern Kurama. Mind your own damn business and leave. Worry about your own mate.”

“I do. But I know Shizuru is safe at the moment and is very worried about her brother. As am I. And as for it being none of my concern, Kuwabara is my friend and now my brother-in-law, *making* it my concern. If something is wrong with him, I have the right to know.”

Hiei did his best to avoid the fox’s steely gaze. “It’s nothing Kurama. I’ll take care of it.”

“I don’t care what you tell me Hiei, I came here to find out what was going on and I am damn well not leaving this house until I do. I want to know exactly what happened and I want to know exactly what you plan to do about it.”

“Dammit Kurama, did you ever think that maybe there was a fucking *reason* I didn’t want to tell you?” Hiei snarled “My gods, you’re supposed to be the most intelligent and tactical one of us, I would think surely *you* would know when to butt out! Kuwabara is *my* mate and I am *not* going to risk his life just because you want to make yourself look all great and macho to your damn wife or just because you don’t like the idea of not being one of the key players in his rescue! If I wanted your damn help I would’ve asked for it!”

Kurama started calmly at the panting demon. The sight of Kurama’s face looking totally unaffected by his burst of rage did nothing but infuriate Hiei even more. “Well?” he demanded. “Aren’t you going to come back with some clever remark that’s supposed to shut me up and make me tell you everything fox?”

“No.”

Hiei stared at him and Kurama stood up. “I think I already figured it out. Now all I wish to know is what the terms are and what you plan on doing about this.”

Hiei angrily spit into the fire, making it hiss. “It’s obvious what I plan on doing about it. I’m going to get my mate back and I’m going to kill the bastards that dared to take him from me.”

“How?”

Hiei gripped the dagger in his cloak. “By any means necessary.”

“Then I assume you’ve already gotten whatever they demanded?”

“Yes.”

Kurama nodded in approval. “Very well.”

Suddenly there was a loud knock at the more. Or more like a banging. Hiei growled and marched to the door, planning to disembowel whoever the bastard was. He froze just before he touched the doorknob. A sick feeling entered his stomach. What if it was Toshio or Ada? And they had heard that Kurama knew about Kuwabara?

‘If so…oh God, Kuwabara!’

“Come on Hiei, open the damn door already!” Came the detective’s impatient voice.

Hiei sighed in relief and annoyance and yanked the door open, revealing Yusuke Urameshi standing there in mid-knock. Yusuke gave him his cocky smile and strode on in.

“Damn Hiei, about friggin time! What were you doing, takin’ a dump?”

Hiei felt his right eye twitch. “What do you want detective?”

“Hm. I see you’re as cheery as ever. Where’s Kuwabara and Kurama? I need to tell them too.”

“Kurama’s in the living room and Kuwabara is ill. Don’t bother him.”

“Still? Jeez, I figured he’d be fine by now. Maybe you should take him to the doctor.”

“Already have. He’ll be fine, he just needs to rest.”

Hiei wasn’t sure why he was lying to Yusuke. Kurama already knew and would most likely tell Yusuke. So why bother? He supposed he just wanted to avoid too many people knowing, for fear that Toshio and Ada would find out.

Kurama came out of the living room and into the entryway. Hiei instantly knew he would have to tell Yusuke the truth just by one glance at the kitsune’s face.

Hiei sighed. “Fine Kurama, I’ll tell him.”

Yusuke turned. “Tell me what?”

“About Kuwabara.”

Yusuke instantly became very serious. “What’s wrong with him?”

This time he decided to just go ahead and tell them both the whole thing. What was the point in holding back details? He did leave out what he found in the bedroom however. He figured the less people knew about *that* little detail the better.

Hiei began to worry when Yusuke began shouting that when Toshio was supposed to call he was going to talk to him and tell him and tell him exactly how Yusuke planned to kill him.

“No!” Hiei shouted.

Yusuke turned angrily to him. “No? What the hell do you mean ‘no’?”

“Yusuke if they find out I told anyone they’re going to kill Kuwabara. And they promised me it would in the most unpleasant of ways.”

Yusuke snarled and Kurama remained silent.

“They can’t know about you two. Whatever you do, for Kuwabara’s sake *don’t* let them know that you know!”

Yusuke continued to growl, still wanting to protest but instead let out a sigh and nodded. Hiei let out his own sigh. “Thank you.”

Kurama turned to Yusuke. “Now what is it you came to tell us Yusuke?”

Yusuke had a look of sudden remembrance and stammered. “Oh…we, uh… Koenma called me and said someone had broken in and stole a dagger and killed a guard. But I guess... you already knew about that.”

Kurama suddenly turned on Hiei. “You killed a guard?” He shouted, “What the hell were you thinking? You realize that Yama is going to be after you’re head now? The killing of a Rekai guard is punishable only by death!”

Yusuke waved his arms in a classic anime panicking style. “What? Ah hell, I’ve just been assigned to find the guy and bring him in! I cant do that when it’s Hiei!”

Kurama threw his hands in the air, obviously stressed out. This is just great. Kuwabara’s been kidnapped so Hiei goes out and steals the most deadly weapon in all of Rekai, kills a guard with it and now Yusuke’s been assigned to take him to his death. This is just fucking great!”

Yusuke and Hiei just stared silently at him.

They all three jumped at the sound of the phone ringing.

Um… Hiei, I think it’s for you.”

Oi. Originally there was more in this chapter but I think I’m gonna end it here for now. Course that’ll probably make the next one pretty short but my neck hurts. Hopefully I get back into my writing mode soon and start posting more chapters. I look forward to the day when these things are finally finished! And thank you to my reader’s and reviewers for putting up with my bullshit and waiting so long for this chapter.
