Scene 53 ------------------------------------------- Yusuke's Office

* By the time Yusuke and Hokushin reach his office, Yusuke's already got conformation from Kurama that the real Koenma is still upstairs on their couch. Yusuke has ordered them both to stay put. Yusuke pauses outside the door to whisper to Hokushin.


Yusuke- (Whisper) Okay. The real Koenma is upstairs on my couch.. Let's just feel this idiot out, first.. If this imposter isn't our target I wanna find out from him who is.. For all we know right now they could both be imposters.


* Hokushin nods. When they enter Yusuke carefully sends out the barest amount of his aura to sense the two beings. As he suspected, the real Yomi notices the infinitesimal brush and responds with his own gentle surge of energy. The fake Koenma just continues inspecting a chipped nail. The real Koenma would have noticed Yusuke's tactic and responded as well. Yomi flaps one of his ears as his head turns slightly toward Yusuke. The Toushin finally speaks startling the imposter.


Yusuke- You got some nerve coming here now, Yomi!


* Yusuke moves toward his desk.


Yomi- Nerve? - I was told by.. Lord Koenma, here.. that you are plotting to kill me.


* Yusuke reaches his desk and leans on it to look at 'Koenma'.


Yusuke- That was supposed to be our secret, ya moron.


* Yomi tilts his head away slightly to contain himself from chuckling.


'Koenma'- I felt it my duty to tell Lord Yomi in order to prevent an incident.


* Yomi half-glances toward the imposter, then looks toward Yusuke.


Yomi- Would you mind telling me what is going on?


* 'Koenma' leans toward Yomi.


'Koenma'- He's a spoiled brat who's having a hissy fit because you didn't come to his boring party.


* Yusuke turns his attention to Yomi, ignoring the comment.


Yusuke- My mate, Lord Hiei.. was wounded severely during an assassination attempt at my 'boring party'.. He was hit while protecting me..


* Yomi lifts his face to scowl, but Yusuke keeps his expression guarded.


Yusuke- The.. projectile.. was a Heartseeker root tainted with Makai Bleeding Plant nectar.

Yomi- Those particular plants are only found in my territory.. So automatically, you leap to the conclusion that I ordered this?


* 'Koenma' looks up at Yomi.


'Koenma'- (Quietly) I must say, that was an ingenious..


* Simultaneously, both Yusuke and Yomi send small blasts of their energy at the imposter. Both are startled, at first, then a bit disappointed when the demon squeals and dissolves easily.


Yusuke- Well, d---.. I only had mine set on stun..

Yomi- Indeed. I would have enjoyed roasting him a bit more, myself.


* Yusuke shakes his hand as he looks up at the goat Lord.


Yusuke- You knew he wasn't the real deal?

Yomi- I suspected him to be fake from the moment I first sniffed him.. That last line just proved his idiocy.. You?

Yusuke- As soon as I heard that he arrived with you.. Considering that the real Koenma is up in my personal chambers right now.


* Yomi's expression grows somber once more.


Yomi- Is what you said true? Your.. mate..?

Yusuke- Yeah.. Hiei.


* Yusuke scowls at his fellow territory ruler.


Yusuke- I heard that you planned on making him your mate.


* Yomi sighs and bows his head guiltily.


Yomi- I.. caught his scent.. What can I say? Lord Hiei was a prime choice for anyone's mate.. The ones who abused him were bigger fools than the one we just took out.

Yusuke- I really wanted to talk with that guy.. I didn't expect you to react, too.

Yomi- It was rather anti-climatic..

Yusuke- Think he was the mastermind?

Yomi- H--- if I know.. Look, Yusuke, if you still think I'm involved in that in anyway, feel free to come into my territory and investigate.. I can give you my word, though. If I wanted to kill you I could do it right now.. I would do it right here face to face.


* After a moment Yusuke nods and lowers his head as he rubs the back of his neck. Yomi can feel the stress and concern radiating off of the Toushin in waves.


Yomi- Will the little guy be alright?


* Yusuke hears the sincere, unguarded concern in Yomi's voice and slumps back into the chair.


Yusuke- Because of the attack he lost a lot of blood.. He came dangerously close to bleeding out.

Yomi- Surely Kurama knew the antidote to the Bleeding Plant.

Yusuke- Yeah.. Hiei saved my life, Kurama saved his.. But we may lose him or the baby.. I haven't decided which yet.


* Yomi uses his refined senses to 'watch' the Toushin rub his forehead.


Yomi- (Quietly) Do you not know that he has a half brother and a twin sister?

Yusuke- Yes, I know, d--- it!


* Yusuke lifts his head to glare at the goat.


Yusuke- His sister is.. unable to help at this time.. She.. used as much energy as she could spare to heal him.. As for his brother..


* Yusuke stands.


Yusuke- Mukuro won't permit him to help unless I agree to give her the baby.. Seriously, I want to send that b---- to the same place we just sent that idiot!


* Yusuke shakes his head as he moves away. Yomi remains calm, understanding the Toushin's need to vent.


Yomi- We make a good team when we work together.. We could both go pay her a visit.

Yusuke- Oh, so don't tempt me right now.. Besides, it'd take weeks to fill out Enki's permission forms.

Yomi- Hmm.. Another reason why I didn't attempt to assassinate you.


* Yusuke glances toward Yomi who now chuckles calmly. He then moves to look at Hokushin.


Yusuke- Escort Lord Yomi out..

Yomi- Lord Urameshi, I would like to have a few words with Lord Hiei.


* Yusuke hesitates, then turns to look at Yomi again. Yomi stands to face him.


Yomi- I also need to congratulate Kurama again.. I hear that he's pregnant, as well.

Yusuke- Yeah, he is.

Yomi- Please, yusuke.. It is imperative that I speak with Hiei.. There is something that I need to.. apologize to him for.

Yusuke- May I ask..?

Yomi- I would prefer that you didn't.


* Yusuke studies Yomi, but the goat is guarded once more.


Yomi- It concerns.. an incident.. that happened before he became your mate.

Yusuke- I don't hold anything against him concerning anything in his past.. So if it's something like you and him having some kind of.. fling or..


* When Yomi tilts his face away Yusuke hesitates to finish his statement. Then he looks away.


Yusuke- Save your deathbed confessions or confrontations..

Yomi- Please, Yusuke. If it weren't important I wouldn't have bothered asking.


* Finally, after a few moments of deliberation, Yusuke sighs and waves.


Yusuke- Whatever. Guess I do owe you a couple favors.. Come on.


* Yomi relaxes and starts after Yusuke. The Toushin looks up at hokushin again as they leave the office.


Yusuke- (Quietly) Keep the place on alert for a while. That guy may not have been acting alone.. I'll get Koenma to check him out.

Hokushin- And the assassin in your dungeon?


* Yusuke thinks for a moment.


Yusuke- If he hasn't died of a heart attack, yet, release him.. But tell him to get his stuff, family, whatever and leave my territory.. If he's found in my borders again he dies.


* Hokushin bows as he nods his agreeance. He heads toward an elevator as Yusuke shows Yomi toward the grand staircase that leads up to his personal quarters.
