Scene 5
Scene 5 ------------- The Next Morning
* As Yusuke and Kurama approach Hiei’s personal chambers Chevaux comes out. She silently gives them berth with a respectful nod, then continues on down the hall. Yusuke glances at Kurama as they watch her go.
Yusuke- Wonder what kind of demon she is?
Kurama- It seems that there’s a mixed variety in his harem.
Yusuke- Harem?
* Yusuke looks back at the redhead.
Yusuke- You make him sound like a genie.
* Kurama shrugs thoughtfully.
Kurama- Some demons call it different things. A pack, a clan.. I think elementals call them harems, but I could be wrong.
* Yusuke rolls his eyes.
Yusuke- You’ll never change, Red.
* He moves to the door.
Kurama- Is that a problem?
* Yusuke gives Kurama another glance then gives the door a knock. It surprises him when it swings open. He looks at Kurama, shrugs, then they enter. Kurama motions toward another open door.
Kurama- In there.
* Yusuke nods and they go to look into the room. They find Hiei laying on his side on the large bed, leaned over Ninhan nuzzling him. Hiei senses the newcomers.
(#) Hiei- At least they were smart enough to find their way through the opened doors.
* Ninhan flails his tiny arms and legs laughing as Hiei pulls back. The Koorime gives his son’s freshly-marked neck a last check then grunts.
Hiei- Settle down and take your nap now, brat.
* He brushes a hand over Ninhan’s spiky blonde tuft then leaves the bed.
Hiei- So what are you two still doing here?
* Hiei arranges the large, heavier pillows carefully around Ninhan as Yusuke answers.
Yusuke- Did you really think we were just going to leave you to grieve alone?
* When he’s sure that Ninhan’s ‘nest’ is secure as possible Hiei turns to face them. His aloof mask firmly back in place.
Hiei- You have your own lives to return to.. Why be so concerned about mine?
* Yusuke looks around Hiei when he notices movement on the bed. Ninhan has turned over and is trying to squirm over one of the pillows.
Kurama- Friends don’t abandon friends, Hiei.
Yusuke- Um, your kid is.. crawling.. off the bed.
* Hiei blurs to snatch Ninhan up just before he can reach the edge of the bed.
Hiei- Ninhan,..
* The apparition sighs when his son clutches his cloak. He's already learning how stubborn this baby is. Hiei turns to glance back up at his friends as he moves to the rocking chair. A gift that was made in the Lynxs’ village.
Hiei- He’s going to be a clingy one.
Kurama- Quite understandable, actually.
Yusuke- Yeah. You’re the only parent he las left.
* Hiei looks back down at Ninhan. The baby boy yawns widely, showing the hint of fangs that are already growing out. He then snuggles in closer against Hiei. For a couple moments, the Koorime forgets that there’s anyone else in the room. He begins to rock the chair gently and rubs Ninhan’s bare back. Yusuke, of course, breaks the silence.
Yusuke- Kid’s going to need clothes.
* Hiei glances up at Yusuke.
Hiei- He fusses when I dress him in anything besides these black diapers.
* Kurama moves to sit on the bed.
Kurama- You do know why he shows so many of your traits. Right?
Hiei- Hn.. The first child always favors the strongest parent.. It’s why I’m more Fire than Ice.. and Yukina is the opposite.. He was her first.
Yusuke- Do you want me to go tell them what’s happened? Yukina and Kuwabara. They’ll have no idea otherwise.
* Hiei shakes his head, then glances up at Yusuke thoughtfully a moment.
Hiei- No. It’s my place to do that.
Kurama- What’s his name again?
Hiei- Ninhan.
Kurama- That’s an unusual name.
Hiei- He’s very aware.. Just like I was at his age.. He told me his name before he was even born.
* He looks back down at his son when he gurbles.
Hiei- He knows what he is. A ningen hanyou.
Yusuke- Oh, now I get it. Nin-han.
* Hiei smirks when Ninhan growls.
Hiei- Will you two get out of here now? I need to get him to sleep.
Kurama- We’ll wait in your kitchen.
Hiei- Whatever.
* Yusuke and Kurama leave.
(#) Ninhan- Bakas.
* Hiei snorts an amused ‘Hn’.
Hiei- But they mean well.. And I mean it. Sleep now, brat.
* He gives the baby a firm pat on his rear then shields his further ponderings away from Ninhan as he continues rocking the chair gently.
