Scene 5 --------------- Two Days Later
* In another area of 'The Barren Lands' Yusuke returns from his short trip to the woods. He pauses when he notices Shishiwakamaru on his knees in front of Kurama who is seated on a fallen log. Even though the samurai's back is to him Yusuke doesn't need too much imagination to know that the two of them are deeply involved in a heavy kissing session. Yusuke glances toward Touya and Suzuka who are seated somewhat off to the side of the small clearing. He notices that Touya is using a stick to draw a map of some sort as the two demons discuss it. The Toushin half glances toward the involved couple, then forces himself to ignore them and go over to the other two. Touya and Suzuka look up when he comes over.
Suzuka- Where did you take off to?
Yusuke- I had to go take a piss.. Happy? - What's this?
Touya- The Demon World version of Risk. What the h--- does it look like?
* Yusuke flops down to sit on the ground in front of them.
Yusuke- D---, you have trust issues, Icy.
Suzuka- Don't mind Touy.. He's just getting ready to come into heat. He's always grouchy like this..
Touya- Oh shove it up your a--.
Suzuka- You'd love to, wouldn't you?
* Touya glares at the chuckling blonde.
Touya- Since we're sharing such personal information, perhaps I should tell Yusuke about how you eat and blimp up when you're depressed!
Yusuke- Ho! Yo, yo, yo, guys! I really could care less about..
* Touya swings his icy gaze back to Yusuke.
Touya- Don't be so sanctimonious, Urameshi! You're so aroused by those two I could smell you a hundred miles away!
Yusuke- Oh? You think I'm horny, do you?
Touya- Obviously.
* Kurama, in his Kitsune form, pulls back from Shishi to look toward them with his ears perked.
Yusuke- Sure. I bet you'd love to do something about it.
Touya- Oh, I could do something about it alright.
* Touya raises a hand and his energy begins to collect until Kurama storms over, grasps his wrist, and snarls toward Yusuke.
Kurama- Touya is mine! If you have a problem with that..!
* Yusuke leans back away from his angry, silver friend.
Yusuke- Calm down, 'Rama.. We were just bantering.
* Yusuke watches Kurama turn to snuffle Touya who keeps his head lowered to show his submission.
Yusuke- Ya know, since we've come here your instincts have really skyrocketed.
* Kurama turns to look back at Yusuke, satisfied that Touya is okay.
Kurama- There's a good reason for that.. One of my pack may be pregnant and another is about to enter his cycle.. You have no idea what kind of pressure that puts on me in this place.
Yusuke- Well, why don't you enlighten me?
* Yusuke leans back on his arms and tilts his head to indicate that his full attention is on the Kitsune. Kurama straightens up to his full height, takes a deep breath, then turns to face Yusuke fully.
Kurama- I must remember that, although you are an Alpha male, you have never had your own pack.
Yusuke- Toushins don't run that way.
Kurama- No. Toushins pass leadership down from Father to son.. or next strongest descendent.
Yusuke- Yeah, I get that.
Kurama- Kitsune males are not born alphas. An Alpha Kitsune has to fight to establish his status.
Yusuke- I don't need a d--- biology lesson.. I get that part.. It's why you think I'm some threat to your stupid position that I don't get.. Kurama, we've been friends for too long.
* After a moment Kurama relaxes his posture, then sinks to sit down in front of Yusuke.
Kurama- Like you said, my instincts have become stronger more quickly than yours. Most likely because you're so young and inexperienced.
Yusuke- Hey, I'm no virgin!
* Kurama's eyes flare briefly, then he closes them.
Kurama- It's this region we've come into. I can smell a lot of different posturing, territorial males.. We told you what this area would be like before we even left Genkai's.
* Yusuke lifts his face and takes in a deep whiff, then promptly sneezes and rubs his nose.
Yusuke- Just smells like.. s--- to me.
Touya- For two reasons that Kurama already mentioned if you'd been paying attention.
* Yusuke glares back at Touya.
Suzuka- You're still young and you're not a pack-oriented species.
Yusuke- Then Imps, Ice demons, and..
* He looks toward Suzuka.
Yusuke- Whatever the h--- kind of demon you are..
Suzuka- My Father was an Illusionary demon, my mother was..
Yusuke- Yeah, whatever.
* Kurama's tail lands in Suzuka's lap to keep him seated.
Kurama- Imps tend to have family groups. Ice and Illusionaries are more or less solitary.. But once I claimed them into my pack their natures adapted to emulate my own.
Yusuke- Okay. I'm with you so far.
Kurama- Since I'm their Alpha, I must be on my guard against all other males in this region.. If I'm defeated and Shishi is pregnant his baby will die.
* Yusuke glances to the side where Shishi is now curled up and sleeping.
Yusuke- How long before you know whether he is or not?
Touya- He'll feel the baby when it's developed enough.
Suzuka- But he's out of his heat.
* Yusuke looks back at them
Yusuke- And that's a good thing?
* Yusuke holds up a placating hand when Kurama lays his ears back.
Yusuke- Easy, Fox.. You took that wrong. Okay?
Kurama- My pack and the life of my child are no joke!
* Yusuke studies Kurama when he looks away to gather himself.
Yusuke- I'm sorry. Okay? Look, like I said. We're friends.. If trouble shows up you know you can count on me to..
Kurama- No. I can't.
* Kurama stands and looks down at Yusuke.
Kurama- It's my job to defend my pack.
Yusuke- What? So if you have a face-down I just gotta sit on my a-- with these guys and watch?!
Kurama- I'm glad that you understand.
* Kurama starts to move away.
Yusuke- Fooled you!
Suzuka- Yusuke, let me make it simple for you.. If Kurama is challenged and you step in.. If you defeat the challenger Kurama's instincts will turn him on you.
* Yusuke looks blankly at Suzuka.
Touya- He'll fight you to get us back.
Yusuke- What if I don't want you?
Suzuka- Ahh, so you'll kill the challenger, then lay down and let Kurama kill you?
* Yusuke faceplants into his palm with a groaning curse.
Kurama- Just save us all the trouble and stay out of my fights.
Yusuke- Fine.. If you can handle whoever's stupid enough to challenge you I'll cower in some d--- corner with these three..
* Yusuke then tilts his head to look back up at Kurama.
Yusuke- But if I feel that you're about to be killed.. I won't let that happen.. Then, after I save your a--, we'll deal with the other s--- later.. Are you understanding me?
* Kurama stares at Yusuke for a long moment, then just quietly moves away to pace the perimeter of their camp.
