Scene 49 ------------------------------------------- Two Hours Later

* Since he was finally able to get Chiisai to sleep, Koenma leaves the boy laying on the bed beside Yusuke. He has to go see what's going on in Hiei's bedroom. When he enters, the smell of blood nearly overwhelms him, but he is a little relieved to recognize that it is mostly old blood. Yukina is now sleeping on a futon that Kurama had laid out for her. The kitsune looks up at Koenma from where he's seated on the bed beside Hiei's small, pale form.


Kurama- The poison was an extract from the Makai Bleeding Plant.. Both of these plants are indigenous to Yomi's territory.

Koenma- Yomi wouldn't order such a hit on Yusuke.

Kurama- No. But somebody intended to make it seem so..


* Koenma comes on over to the bed. Botan is still working to heal Hiei wearily.


Koenma- He'll live, though.. Right?

Botan- He will as long as I have my strength.


* Kurama feels another presence and looks up to see Yusuke leaning in the doorway.


Koenma- If he's out of the woods, you need to rest, Botan.

Kurama- She and Yukina..


* Kurama glances toward the hibernating ice maiden. Yusuke follows suit.


Kurama- Have done wonders.. Yukina has completely exhausted herself.


* Yusuke goes over to look down at Yukina, taking note of her 'plumpness'.


Yusuke- Life at Genkai's seems to be treating her well.


* Koenma looks away, avoiding the subject as Yusuke now makes his way up to the other side of Hiei's bed.


Yusuke- How is he?

Kurama- He lost a lot of blood..

Yusuke- I can give him a transfusion.. Will that..?

Koenma- No, Yusuke.


* Yusuke scowls at the Teen godling.


Yusuke- You better tread lightly,.. Sir.. You're not exactly on my top ten list right now.

Koenma- I did what I had to, Yusuke.. You were losing control.. Demons can only take transfusions of blood from their immediate family..

Yusuke- You mean like a sister..?

Koenma- Yes.. (Quietly) But Yukina can't do that at this time.. Something else is.. requiring her blood.


* Kurama and Yusuke exchange glances. Koenma tenses, but then relaxes when both of them drop their eyes to look at Hiei. Neither wants to really open that can of worms at the moment.


Yusuke- What about that half brother of his..? Ryuji, is it?

Kurama- You would have to go through Lord Mukuro..


* Yusuke leans to caress Hiei's cool, pale cheek.


Yusuke- I'll go through anyone I have to..

Koenma- It won't hurt to go ask, Yusuke.. We all know how much she cares about Hiei.


* When Yusuke leaves Kurama follows him out. Koenma lays a hand on Botan's shoulder.


Koenma- I said it's time for you to rest, Botan.. I can feel that he's stabilized.


* In a moment, Botan relaxes her aura and looks up at Koenma with a weary nod.


Koenma- Go rest in Yusuke's room in case Chi wakes up. I don't want him to be alone right now.


* Again, Botan nods. Koenma follows her out, but he goes toward the livingroom. Just as he enters, he hears Mukuro speak on the monitor.


Mukuro- I will allow Ryuji to come on one condition, Lord Urameshi.

Yusuke- And what might that be?

Mukuro- I'm sure that you're aware that the life of this unborn child could possibly be lost if Hiei's blood supply isn't supplimented by Ryuji..


* Yusuke just gives a stiff nod.


Mukuro- Therefore, I feel it only fitting that, since this will save the child's life.. that it will be turned over to me when it's born.


* Everyone in the room stares at the screen stunned. Koenma catches his pacifier when it falls out of his mouth. Slowly, Yusuke's expression melts into a scowl.


Yusuke- You can't be serious..!

Mukuro- I am dead serious.. I still need an heir.. Since you've taken the one I had planned, his offspring will do just as well.. Do we have a deal, Lord Urameshi?

Yusuke- You honestly.. expect me.. to take the child from Hiei.. And just hand him over to you?

Mukuro- That is the deal.. You may take time to think it over.

Yusuke- Think this over, b----!!


* Yusuke hits the button angrily to cut the connection. After a string of scathing curses on her, Yusuke leans forward and closes his eyes.


Yusuke- Koenma, tell me.. Will Hiei live..?

Koenma- Do you want the truth?

Yusuke- Yes.


* Koenma goes over to lean against the desk beside his friend.


Koenma- Right now, Hiei's force is stabilized.. Demon hearts beat slower than humans.. You know this, right?


* Yusuke nods as he leans back in the chair to look up at the Teen.


Koenma- In one way, this is beneficial to demons because this is what keeps them aging so slowly..

Yusuke- I know this.

Koenma- The downside of this is in a situation like this.. When so much blood has been lost.. It takes a very long time for the supply to be renewed naturally.. This will keep Hiei very weak for a very long time.. unless the supply is supplimented..


* Yusuke lowers his eyes.


Koenma- This will only be harder on Hiei because of the pregnancy..

Kurama- All of his strength will go toward preserving the baby.

Koenma- Right.. It'll lengthhen his recovery time extensively for the duration of the pregnancy.


* Yusuke raises a hand to cover his eyes.


Yusuke- I can't.. meet Mukuro's demand.. I can't do that to Hiei.. Not without his..

Kurama- (Quietly) He would abide by your..


* Yusuke shoots up out of the chair and shuts Kurama up with a cold glare. When the kitsune lowers his eyes and shrinks back away from his Alpha's anger, Yusuke turns and goes back to Hiei's room. Kurama slowly looks back up at Koenma. The Teen is at a loss for any further words.
