Scene 48 ------------------------------------------- One Hour Later
* Botan hurries into the bedroom where Koenma and Kurama are waiting. Yusuke is still out and Koema is now cradling Chiisai. Kurama stands when she enters.
Kurama- Botan,..
Botan- We were able to get this.. thing.. out of him..
* Kurama takes the root-like object.
Botan- Yukina had to use her ice powers to force it to wiggle out of Hiei's chest.. But we still can't get the bleeding to stop completely without keeping pressure on the wound.
Kurama- This is a Heartseeker root.. It would have worked it's way into Hiei's heart and then grew out..
Koenma- I take it that wouldn't have been good.
* Kurama shakes his head then sniffs at the root. It doesn't take too much of a sniff for the kitsune to react. He looks at Koenma and Botan quickly.
Kurama- Watch Yusuke.. This root was dipped in poison, as well.. I can make an antidote easily.
Koenma- Somebody really wanted the little guy dead..
Kurama- Hiei wasn't the target, Koenma.. He used his body to keep the assassin from hitting Yusuke.
* Without waiting for Koenma to say anything else Kurama leaves. Botan looks at Koenma who sighs and looks back down at Chiisai. The small boy whimpers.
Koenma- (Quietly) Shh.. Your Papa was being brave.. as usual.. He'll be okay, ChiChi.
Botan- Sure he will. Your Uncle Kurama will fix him right up, I'm sure.
* Koenma glances up at Botan.
Koenma- Yes. And your Aunties Botan and Yukina are helping him, too.
* Botan gets the message and leaves. Koenma looks back down at Chiisai. Finally, the small boy raises his eyes to look up at Koenma.
Chiisai- (Quietly) But.. he's hurt real bad.. I know he is..
Koenma- We're not going to let him die, son.
Chiisai- I-I know..
* Chiisai lowers his red eyes and leans against Koenma's chest again.
Chiisai- But he's going to be sick for a long time.
* Koenma quirks an eyebrow up a bit puzzled.
Chiisai- He might even.. lose his new baby..
* Chiisai closes his eyes and sobs again.
Chiisai- That will be my fault if he does..
Koenma- Why would you say that, Chiisai?
Chiisai- B-because.. I was mad when he.. told me about the baby.. I didn't want it to.. replace me..
* Chiisai hides his face against Koenma's chest. The godling feels the numbness of his shock crumble away to guilt and sorrow. Koenma embraces Chiisai tighter and continues to try to soothe him as best he can.
