Life Goes On

Thoth, now you know I won't spoil the surprise concerning Shishi. (I'm still waiting on that sabaktu pic, btw.) But perhaps somewhere down the long and winding road you'll all figure it out.

I've been enjoying all of your reviews so far. Please keep letting me know what you think. I seem to have lost the interest of some others that were regular reviewers on the previous stories in this series.

I'm thinking my next piece will be something YYH, but in a completely different avenue. Oh, and I haven't forgotten about Shura's Quest. I'm just wanting to get this story out of the way. With all my connection problems I've had because of the rainy weather we've been getting here, not to mention a few health issues, I'm only going to clear one story at a time from now on before I go into anything new. SQ, in it's written form, isn't even completed. It may end up being my longest work yet. I may have to break it up into a two-parter.

Well, anywho, let's continue on with this one. Thank you for your patience with my ramblings. :o)

Scene 46 ------------------------------------------- Later That Day

* Yusuke and Kurama are relaxing out on the balcony. They both look toward the open doorway when Hiei appears there.


Yusuke- Hey, Shorty. We're watching the sunset.. Wanna join us?


* Hiei looks toward the orange globe that's settling near the mountainous horizon.


Hiei- It does that every day at this hour.

Kurama- True.. But it's seldom as clear as this evening's.

Yusuke- Don't be a prude, Shorty.


* Hiei hesitates, then moves to sit beside Kurama's leg. The kitsune understands the reason for this. Yusuke sighs quietly and looks back toward the sunset, deciding to mind his own business. When Kurama is sure that Yusuke's not going to interfere, he reaches down to begin rubbing the back of Hiei's neck affectionately. The koorime closes his eyes and enjoys the sensation a few moments, then he leans to lay his head against Kurama's knee. Yusuke glances toward them out of the corner of his eyes. He senses the contentment emanating from both of his mates. He reaches over and takes Kurama's free hand.


Yusuke- As long as you two are happy.. I'm happy.


* Kurama looks at Yusuke with a smile, then leans to snuggle into his embrace. Hiei looks back toward the sunset.


Hiei- Hn.. I will deal with it.


* Kurama and Yusuke look down toward Hiei. The kitsune uses his bushy tail to give the koorime a playful nudge. Yusuke chuckles. The happy scene is soon interrupted, though, when the communication station beeps loudly in the livingroom. Yusuke moans with a curse.


Yusuke- That's probably for me.


* Yusuke goes inside reluctantly, checks the ID on the screen, and scowls.


Yusuke- Hey, Hiei..! It's your Bosslady!


* Hiei and Kurama both enter as Yusuke sits down in the chair in front of the console.


Hiei- You mean Mukuro?

Yusuke- Yeah.


* Yusuke hits the button to accept the call.


Yusuke- Lord Mukuro, how are you..?

Mukuro- I understand that you are holding my Second hostage in your tower, Urameshi.


* Hiei goes over to stand behind Yusuke and scowl at Mukuro's half-covered face.


Hiei- Hostage, h---.. I'm here because this is where I belong, b----.

Mukuro- And what of your position here?!

Hiei- Give it to Ryuji.. He's been faithful to you.


* Mukuro bows her head to the side slightly a moment, gathering herself as she glances toward Ryuji who is standing off to the side. She then looks back to focus on Hiei.


Mukuro- I heard about your mate passing. Ryuji has already reported that to me.. I'm only concerned for your wellbeing, Lord Hiei.

Hiei- Hn.. As I said, I am here where I belong.


* Mukuro turns her cold gaze down on Yusuke again.


Mukuro- Just what exactly are you up to, Urameshi? First Yomi's Second, now mine...

Yusuke- They both belonged to me long before they were yours or Yomi's.


* Mukuro scowls, but gives no further comment.


Yusuke- You should be the first to know, Mukuro.. Hiei's pregnant to me again.


* Hiei looks off to the side with his usual huffing grunt of annoyance.


Mukuro- You don't waste any time, do you, Toushin?

Yusuke- Is that your idea of congratulations?


* Mukuro casts a last glance toward Hiei.


Mukuro- It's the best you'll get from me for stealing my best officer!


* The screen then goes black as Mukuro abruptly cuts her connection. Yusuke leans back in the chair. When Kurama moves to sit on his lap Hiei steps back.

Kurama- You spoke the truth, you know.. We did belong to you before we took their offers.

Yusuke- If I were trying some kind of a coup I'd let you both take your positions back, have you knock those two pompous uppities off.. Umm, well, I can't really say too much against Yomi.. He accepted us pretty well.. Do you think Mukuro will let it go at that, Hiei?


* Hiei looks toward them again.


Hiei- The woman isn't as heartless as everyone thinks, Alpha.

Yusuke- Will you just call me by my name?

Hiei- If that's what you wish.


* Kurama looks at Hiei over Yusuke's shoulder and the koorime lowers his eyes. He turns when his three boys come running over to him.


Jiro- Is it supper time, Papa?

Chiisai- Can we have ice cream?

Ichiro- Hn.. I haven't had any in so long I forget what it tastes like.

Hiei- Ichy, you exaggerate too much.


* Kurama stands.


Kurama- I'll go get dinner started..


* Jiro looks up at Kurama as he passes.


Jiro- You made us breakfast..

Ichiro- Aren't you going to cook for us anymore, Papa?


* Kurama pauses and looks back at Hiei.


Hiei- I'm sorry, Kurama.. It will take some adjusting for them.

Kurama- Of course.


* Yusuke stands to look at them.


Yusuke- Here's a thought.. Why don't the two of you work together? Twice the hands will get supper done quicker.. I'm getting hungry myself.


* Hiei hesitantly looks back up at Kurama. The kitsune shrugs.


Kurama- I can do the cooking, you can do the fetching and table setting.


* Hiei nods. Kurama starts toward the kitchen. hiei watches the twins hurry over to look up at Yusuke.


Ichiro- So, do you have ice cream?

Jiro- Maybe Uncle Koe can send us down some.


* Yusuke gathers the two boys up while Chiisai just lags behind quietly as Yusuke moves back to the computer chair.


Yusuke- Well, why don't we just call up Uncle Koe and see what he says?


* Kurama turns at the kitchen doorway and notices Hiei. The koorime senses his attention and turns to head toward the kitchen.


Hiei- I'm coming, I'm coming.


* Kurama also notices that Chiisai seems left out. Hiei glances up at Kurama who sends a mental message to Yusuke.


(#) Kurama- Don't forget to get Chiisai's favorite flavor, too, Love.


* Yusuke waves over his shoulder to Kurama as he types in the Spirit World frequency. Kurama glances down at Hiei as they go on into the kitchen.


Kurama- (Quietly) Your youngest is beginning to feel isolated.

Hiei- Hn.. When I told him about my new.. baby he.. paniced.. He thought I was having it to replace him..

Kurama- He probably has some unresolved things about losing his Momma Shishi.


* Hiei glances up at Kurama.


Hiei- (Quietly) I'm all he has.. actually.. I'm doing the best I can.. I wasn't really cut out for this parenting stuff.

Kurama- Don't be silly. I think you're doing very well by them.. We'll see if we can make him feel more at home here.

Hiei- He wants to go back up there..


* Kurama moves to start the stove.


Kurama- To Spirit World?

Hiei- Hn.. We came in here to prepare food, Fox.

Kurama- I'm just trying to help you, Hiei,

Hiei- Chi is my son.. I'll deal with him.


* Kurama turns to study Hiei a moment.


Kurama- We're one family here now.. Try working on accepting that.

Hiei- I keep forgetting that you think as a human now, too.

Kurama- Something wrong with that?

Hiei- Perhaps Chiisai isn't the only one out of place here.

Kurama- Don't let your mood swing that way, Hiei.. I'll need a couple packages of noodles from the pantry.. Through that door.


* Kurama points toward the door to the side with his tail as he reaches up into a cabinet for a pot. No more is spoken between them as they set to work on dinner. When Hiei's three come in he orders them to sit quietly at the table. The kitsune glances back toward them to note how well they obey their Papa who's not really that much taller than the twins are now. Hiei and Kurama glance toward the livingroom when they hear Yusuke bust out laughing about something. After a brief glance between them they continue their tasks.
