A/N Pt2:
Yes well, I hope you guys read the first part of this A/N in the previous chapter. So now I can just jump into my reviewers! The two of you ^^; seriously...well I appreciate the two who did review ^^ makes me feel like I'm writing it for someone! Woot! haha So yeah, here we go!
Daze Kitshoney-
YAY!! Your back! *glomp* I thought you had forgotten us *sniffles* I love the new chapter, cant wait to see more!
Me-
Yup yup *glomp back* ^^ I'm back and better than ever! No of course not! How could I ever forget about my readers let alone my fan fics! *hands you a tissue and pats your head* It'll be okay, I'm back with more and better ideas for this story! I'm happy you loved it ^_^. Well, here you go! More!
golddhild-
in this chapter there is a mistake Hiei and Yukina have the same mother they are twins. Hiei was created when his mother had an affair with a fire demon and Yukina was created because every 100 years or so the ice maidens asexually reproduce(that means they reproduce by themselves)
Me-
I know which chapter you are talking about, chapter 15...I think, its where I had the flashback where Hiei says that they had two different mothers. There are references in both the anime and the manga. It was in manga number 6, page 115 that Hiei said: Yukina doesn't know, and there's no reason she should. We have differnt mothers, and she's an ice maiden...they're supposed to keep to their wintry realm.'
Then in manga number 18 (second to last of the mangas) page 9 it says: Ice maidens are cloistered in a floating castle (the Glacial County) enveloped in dense clous and avoiding interaction with the world beelow the reason? When an ice maiden breeds with a male, the resulting offspring is always a male and takes on the characteristics of the father, which seems to explain why most end up vicious and ruthless. As for the mother, she never survives giving brith to a male. Clearly these factors are not conductive to the preservation of their kind.'
So there is hints that they came from the same mother. It goes along the same pattern in the anime as well.
I appreciate you trying to help me out tho ^_^. I know that me also being a die-hard Yu Yu Hakusho fan would do the same thing if I saw something that didn't seem right in someone's fan fic and would like to help. So again thank you ^_^. And not to sound rude, cause I don't want to come off that way and I'm saying this next thing with complete sincerity and no malice behind it what-so-ever: I've been a die-hard fan of this manga/anime since it first came out. I know almost every single thing about it, I owe the entire series in both english and japanese and I will own all 19 mangas soon once I get out to Borders ^^; I'm looking into getting the five OVAs of the show, tho I own a few mini clips from that and I own a few CDs from the Yu Yu Hakusho soundtrack as well as songs the voice actors sung while in character; not to mention I have the full BATTLE SONGS CD that follows the Dark Tournament into the Black Chapter Saga as a musical sung by the entire cast of the Japanese version ^_^. I can actually share that with you...once I find that ^^; hahaha but still, I do really appreciate you helping me out, but I'm so obsessed with the show I scare my self sometimes with the knowledge that I know O.o haha like Kuwabara's name in the Philipians is Alfred...and Kurama was thought to be a girl so he is thought a girl to his mother O.o when he's really a girl and I think his name starts with a D...^^; its weird...anyway yes, I got off topic.
SO yeah, I hope that didnt' sound mean or snobby or anything like that ^^; I never mean to sound like that, it sometimes comes off like that and I truly and deeply do appreciate you trying to help me out ^_^. Most people would just believe everything that they read and say: well that sounds right I guess its true.
So never be scared to speak up! Its a great quality and very rare now adays! ^^ Honesty has been lost in this day in age and I apprecite it when people do tell me when I do make mistakes or point out things that don't make sense so I can elibrate on what I mean...and excuse any spelling I might have messed up but I'm horrible at that ^^; Thank you for reading my story! And I hope you continue to read it! And I thank you AGAIN for commenting ^^.
So yes...that's it for my reviewers hahaha ^^; Sooo I'll try to update again very soon, but I hope these two chapters will keep you guys content until I do post the next one ^^. Please enjoy this and leave reviews!
Thanks!
ENJOY!
Chapter 45: Hard Core Gaming
Back With the Guys....
“We'll just play games until the portal to the demon plane is open.” Amanuma said with his arms crossed over his chest. “Then you can be on your merry way.”
“So he's only out to waste our time!” Growled Yusuke, growing annoyed every minute he was stuck in this game. “And get his kicks while he's at it.”
“It's been almost THREE hours! Can't we get around this snarl somehow?” Yanagisawa suggested.
The entire thing was getting to him, making him nervous and feeling aggravted, not as much as yusuke but he was getting there.
“It's play the games or die.”
“Hiei?” Yusuke said blinking.
Hiei had been silent the entire time. He had stood back and watched as the rest of the team played this kid's stupid game; or what Hiei thought was stupid. Yusuke kind of forgot Hiei was even there.
“I've been trying to summon flames, but no go.” Hiei said, looking down at his hand as if it confused him just a bit. “As in Kaito's territory, powers that could interferer don't function.”
Hiei flopped himself onto the ground and leaned aginst the wall, closing his eyes.
“That being the case, I'm useless. Wake me when its over.”
Everyone stared at the fire demon, as he actually appeared to have fallen asleep.
“What're our chances, y'think? I can't beat him.” Yusuke said, looking at Kuram.
Kurama was deep in thought and looked grin.
“Good question. The thing is, if I'm right this isn't going to end well.”
Yusuke raised an eyebrow at that.
“whatta you mean by that?”
“Amanuma's not really aware of the extent of his ability.” Kurama said, looking at Yusuke with a grim look.
'Sensui's just using him as a delaying tactic. But he's doing so in the cruelest way possible!” Kurama thought, having figured out what would happen if Amanuma lost.
'He is a sick bastard.' growled Yoko.
He may have been a thief but he even had a code of honor. He would never kill a woman or a child. It was one of the few things he really thought of as a 'taboo'.
Kurama didn't say anything to the old fox demon deep in him. There was nothing he could say. The entire situation was wrong and he didn't want to really think about it. However, he knew that he had to do what he needed to do, even if it went against everything he stood for.
Amanuma pulled the lever and the slots spun. The first landed on PUZZLE, the second on THREE SEVENS, and the last on LEVEL G.
“So what's this game about?” Yanagisawa asked Kaito.
“It's like Tetris and Puyo Pop, with falling blocks that number from one to seven and drop in various combinations. You eliminate them by making vertical or horizontal rows that add up to seven.” Kaito began to explain, “But as the name implies, you can only eliminate sevens by lining them up three in a row.”
“My head hurts just thinking about it.” winched Yanagisawa.
“Experience and concentration are the keys, and once you're in the zone you can go on for hours.” Kaito added.
“Hours?” Yanagisawa said with wide eyes.
“It took me two hours to beat the video game's Gmaer King. Minamino won't let it go that long. I figure he'll distract Amanuma somehow.” Kaito explained, looking over at Kurama.
“Amanuma...let me ask you something.” Kurama said, looking at the kid.
“Sure.”
Kurama walked up to the podium and looked at Amanuma who was standing next to his own podium, ready to play the game.
“Did Sensui suggest using the Game Battler for this?”
“Yeah, 'It would be most fitting', he said. I just said 'Heck yeah!'” Amanuma said, pointing at himself with a smile.
'I knew it!' Kurama growled inwardly as he clenched his hands, shaking them in anger.
Yoko growled with in Kurama.
'That bastard! He's only a kit in kitsune years, barely!' Yoko growled.
Kurama's eyes flashed golden for a second. Kurama closed his eyes and took in a deep breath. When he opened his eyes, they were emerald green again, however they were dull and void of all emotions.
“Do you know what Sensui's trying to do?” Kurama asked, his voice calm but low.
“Sure I do. Demons are gonna swarm out from the demon plane and create mass chaos. Sounds cool. And the best part is, no more school!” Amanuma said, in pure kid fashion.
“I'll be safe inside in my territory, with my games.” Amanuma said, pointing at himself with a huge smile, “No demon will ever be a serious challenge to me.”
Kurama looked down. He knew what he had to do, but his eyes dulled over even more at just the thought of having to resort to such methods. However, it wasn't his fault that Sensui was manipulative and didn't hesitate in disposing a life, even if it was a young child's life; as long as his goal was accomplished. That was all that mattered to Sensui.
“If you lose this game...you will die.” Kurama said, his voice an octave lower than usual.
Amanuma blinked at Kurama, not sure what Kurama was talking about.
“Were you aware of this?” Kurama said looking at Amanuma.
“You're just trying to unnerve me!” Amanuma said, looking away as he crossed his arms over his chest. “Forget it! It won't work!”
“You, better than anyone, must be aware of how the video game ends.” Kurama said.
“If the Gamer King loses, the game displays that he dies. It's an unusual situation. Your ability will make sure it actually happens.” Kurama said, not looking at Amanuma as he spoke those words.
“Let me guess...” Kurama continued, Amanuma just looking at him, “This is your first time using Gamer Battler, right?”
“...Yeah, it is.” Amanuma said, not sure what Kurama was getting at.
“But it's so there'd be seven opponents. Other games have always worked fine.” Amanuma said, in his defense.
“Othere games...that don't kill off the main character...if he loses. But now you're commintted ot one that will. Sensui was probably aware of that.” Kurama said.
Amanuma blinked and began to think back at what Sensui had said to him back when they had arrived.
“You need o challenge seven opponents. Game Battlers would allow you to do that, right?' Sensui's voice said in the kid's head.
“Wait a second, Kurama!” Yusuke shouted, having heard everything the red head had said, “Wasn't it you who said the kid wasn't out to exact any penalties, let alone play for keeps? If he knew how it could end, why would he have even started all this in the first place?”
“As you said Amanuma is a kid. And kids are easily swayed...by adults who play to their childish impulse, as Sensui clearly did.” Kurama said.
Amanuma began to realize how serious the game had gotten and realized that Sensui had tricked him.
“The game begins!” shouted the voice from the big screen. “The one whose screen fills to the top firsts loses!”
Kurama and Amanuma began to watch as the blocks that had numbers on them began to slowly fall. It seriously was like tetris. If you were there, you would totally love it, as Tetris was one of your favorite games. You were also excellent at it. Although, you had never played this kind of Tetris and would have had a hard time being it your first, that that is if you were there.
“So it's okay for us to just lose and lose but Amanuma loses once and he's toast? And that jerkwater Sensui KNEW that?!” Yusuke said.
There was nothing fair or right in that. It didn't seem fair at all to Yusuke. Especially since he and everyone else who were part of the seven warriors were safe as long as they continued to play.
“He played on Amanuma's youthful enthusiasm.” Genkai said, closing her eyes.
She sighed. She should have seen it coming. However, she never expected an ex-underworld detective to do something like this, or anyone to sink to this level for that matter.
“He expected us to figure his out and just keep playing and losing, again and again so Amanuma wouldn't die. But Kurama means to win. He told Amanuma the truth to make him lose focus. That will save time. It's a cold dirty, underhanded tactic. And humanity's only hope.” Genkai said, looking her ex-student dead in his eyes.
Yusuke turned to Kurama.
'Geeze Kurama!' he thought as he watched the red head, who was apparently winning.
'Sensui set me up...? But why...?' Amanuma thought, not focusing on the blocks that were going a little bit faster.
Amanuma thought back to the time he had met the man. He couldn't believe he was so stupid to not see what the guy had in mind. He just made it sound like it would be like one of the games he played at the arcade.
'Games are the Gamer King's only reason for being.' Amanuma thought as his eyes widened, realization finally fully setting in. 'So when he loses, he dies....how did I let this happen? I thought I ruled in my territory, but the fact is I'm trapped!'
'Use Game Battler to fight Urameshi...it will assure your triump! With your ability driving it, they'll have no chance against you...' echoed Sensui's last words to him.
Amanuma's hands shook as fear began to set in. He was too young to die! His block missed its mark.
“The kid's blocks are piling up.” Yanagisawa gasped.
“He's really rattled.” Kaito said, pushing his glasses up with his pointer finger.
It was a side of Kurama he had never seen before and he didn't like it.
“Look...um...” Amanuma said, looking at Kurama with fear filled eyes, “Isn't there a way out of this?”
“It's your ability...you tell me.” Kurama said, not taking his attention off the screen where his blocks were.
“Once I'm a character in a game, I can't withdraw or forfeit it!” Amanuma said, glancing back at his screen and seeing the blocks pile even more, getting closer to the top of the screen.
“Please...” Amanuma said, fear in his eyes and voice as he looked back over at the only guy that could save him.
Kurama was silent for a few moments.
“Sorry kid...that's how it is.” Kurama said, his voice void of all emotion.
“Sensui swayed you with his words...but you let yourself be swayed by them.” Kurama said, continuing to foucus on the blocks that were coming down a bit faster now.
Amanuma's eyes widened. His eyes began to fill up with tears as his entire body began to shake, the actuality of the situation really hitting him. He was going to die.
“I know, I was stupid.” Amanuma said, his voice filled with fear yet he had some hope in his eyes and in a small smile on his lips.
The tears continued to pour down his face, as his body couldn't stop shaking. The blocks were coming down even faster now and he wasn't able to keep up with them. If Kurama didn't lose, he was dead.
“But I just...I just....please, I don't wanna die...”
However, those words were his last as his blocks filled up all the way to the top.
“Game Over! Loser: The Gamer King!” Came from the big screen.
Kurama kept his eyes on the screen, not looking at anything or anyone. His entire body was till as was his face. The only thing that moved was his clenched fist that lay at his sides. He shook in anger. He was angry with himself for not seeing it sooner. He should have realized it sooner; it might have saved the boy. However, he had thought of it too late.
Yanagisawa was in a state of shock. He couldn't believe what he had just witnessed. He felt sorry for Kurama. It wasn't an easy decision, to hold a person's very life in your hand and to have to make a choice to save or to kill them. If he were in Kurama's shoes, he would have broke at Amanuma's begging.
Kaito looked at his classmate with an emotionless face, however he was hurting for Kurama. He knew how kind Kurama was in school. He was nice to everyone. Kurama would go out of his way to help someone at school, no matter how big or how stupid it was, that was just how Kurama was. It didn't matter what social status, popularity status, or sexual preference. Kurama was more than willing to help out a person in need with a warm smile and a helpful attitude.
Genkai had a hard face. She knew how hard of a decision was for Kurama. She knew it would most likely haunt him for as long as he lived. She her self had at one time or another had made decisions like the one Kurama had to make. She knew the scars and nightmares would cause for the poor red head for the rest of his life. She could only hope that he wouldn't become bitter and cold after this entire thing was over and done with.
Mitari looked on on in disgust. What kind of monster would put someone in such a situation? It was a hard decision. Save one soul, or save the entire world? He couldn't believe he had trusted Sensui. He couldn't believe he was trying to help him destroy the entire human race. He felt a bit responsible for Kurama having to sacrifice Amanuma's life to save the entire world. He felt that if he didn't help in the first place, maybe, just maybe Amanuma would still be alive.
Hiei was awake and was looking at his close friend. He had known Kurama foa a while now and knew how much this would affect the old fox demon. He knew that the old Kurama was a ruthless killer however he had two rules:
Never kill a woman or child.
Do anything to save his own.
Kurama had to choose between those two rules in this battle. He had obviously made his choice. He had choose to save you and Kuwabara. That meant, in Hiei's eyes; that the two of you were thought to be Kurama's 'own' or rather part of his family.
Yusuke looked at Kurama, his eyes wide and not sure what to do. He couldn't believe Kurama had really gone through with it. He couldn't understand why it had to end like that. There had to have been another way; there just had to. However, it was too late. They would never know if there was another way, a way where there would be no casualties on either side. Kurama had to make a choice and Yusuke wasn't sure if he could have made the same if put in the same position as the red head.
The entire room vanished and they were all standing back in the cave. Everyone, except Amanuma. He lay dead next to his game system. It seemed in order for his power to work he needed a game system along with the game itself; as the game was sticking out of old Nintendo Game System. A controller was plugged into the system and was a few inches away from Amanuma's fingers, which were outstretched as if trying to hold on to it but failed. There was a single tear still in his closed eyes before they slowly made their last journey down his boyish cheeks and onto the cold cave floor where he lay.
Kurama turned his head and looked down at the boy. He was so young. He had barely begun to live. He wouldn't get to go to middle school, make friends, date girls, drive a car, go to college, get married...he would miss out on what life had to offer. He could have been someone important or could have made something of himself, using his ability possibly for some sort of purpose. However, Kurama had cut whatever dreams, whatever aspirations, whatever this boy's life would be for the future; he had cut it short.
Yusuke was the only one out of the group to dare move towards Kurama.
“Kurama....”
Sympathy filled Yusuke's voice. He didn't know what to say. He could related to what Kurama was feeling. Back at the hospital, when he had fought The Doctor, the only way to save all those people who he had infected was to either knock him out or kill him. Yusuke had made the choice and had blasted the guy out of the third story window. For a few moments, Yusuke had felt the pain it was to make such a hard choice, to be the one to have the choice to have to take one life to save many. However, Genkai had spared Yusuke from anymore torment as she had brought the Doctor back to life. Genkai couldn't fix this for Kurama. Kurama would have to feel that pain for the rest of his life.
Yusuke walked carefully up to the red head. He wasn't sure what he would find, however Kuarma was his friend, and he needed to be there for him; that's all Yusuke knew.
When he was close enough to see Kurama's face, he shuddered at it. Kurama had murder in his eyes. He looked a bit more than pissed off. Yusuke had never seen Kurama with that look and it made him want to pee his pants. He almost did actually once he took a look at Kurama's face. However, he was able to control his bladder, if for the moment anyway.
“Let's go get Sensui.” Kurama said, his voice low and threatening.
