Book 6 - Chapter 10
Chapter 10
”Harime, stop this. You’re being foolish!”
Hinote shot a fireball at her younger cousin, the shots bouncing off of the Koorime’s body. Hinote had already figured out that the necklace her relative wore protected her from most of her attacks. Fire was the only thing that remotely got through, singeing the ice apparition every time it got through the barrier.
“That’s what I always was to you, huh Hinote? A foolish child. I am not a child any longer. Lady Mukuro as taught me well to use my powers. Mother would have never taught me how to defend myself, let alone fight. She was always too busy looking for your father, her own brother who was right under her nose. Mother is the stupid, foolish one not me. I am somebody now; I am a true Ice demon!”
Hinote smirked, a huge fireball in her hand. “Oh honey, we got to talk. I am going to enjoy being actually able to hurt you this time. I don’t have to hold back now.” With those words, she threw the ball of fire at her cousin, the ice girl narrowly ducking away, her loose hair catching fire as it skated past
As Hinote tried to beat out the flames in her long blue hair, Hinote put her hand up, calling the flames to climb higher. “Burn for me. Stop her at any cost. Hggghhh…”
As the young hiyoukai spoke, hundreds of small, sharp shards of ice hit her body, the groups stretching from her shoulders, chest, stomach, legs and face, blood quickly oozing from each hole. She fell to the ground, her naturally overly warm body melting the ice quickly, but the damage not helped.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Ryu watched as he fiancée fell in battle, her clothing becoming soaked in her own blood. He never felt the single tear that fell from his eye as he lost his control at that point, her entire being enraged at the thought of losing his soon-to-be mate.
“Hinote…”
He stood and roared his anger and sadness, unable to fathom his life without her. Later he would think it sappy, but at that point he barely blinked as he ran toward Harime, the ice apparition standing above her cousin, smiling at the other girl’s death.
He never spoke as he came down on the demon girl, fists radiating red. He pulled back and was stopped by his father’s hand on his own.
“No Ryu!”
The younger spirit detective simply pulled away quickly, his angered strength more than his father’s. He threw a punch at Harime as he approached, his energy making the hit harder. As he continued to pummel her, he allowed his power to grow, his energy running away, overwhelming the ice demon. During the onslaught, his dark hair grew longer and the familiar clan markings he inherited from his father’s bloodline emerged, his nearly matching his father’s.
Yusuke stood silently, recognizing the change in his son. He stepped forward to prevent him from killing the girl, but stopped when Hinote threw herself onto his back, her bleeding noticeably stopped, but body severely weakened.
“Don’t kill her. She is not worth becoming a murderer.”
Ryu stopped for a brief moment, holding the Koorime by her neck, his fiancée held him still. He pushed the young ice youkai before him away, turning to his mate as she slipped off his back, holding her to him.
“Hinote… I…”
“I am fine Ryu, just sore.” She pulled up her shirt and surveyed the healing marks from the ice shards. “Botan will have to heal them more, or they’ll scar.” She watched his eyes, noticing the relief there. “I’m really fine, Ryu.”
He nodded, silent as he hugged her to him. Yusuke smiled at the exchange, looking over at Harime, the ice maiden breathing shallowly but alive, the bruises from Ryu’s treatment of her marking her face and neck. He leaned down and picked her up, making a mental note to train his son in self control as soon as possible. He had plans already on how to do it, knowing it had to be done.
“Hey, Love birds, time to go.”
Both Ryu and Hinote looked toward Yusuke, as he hefted the young demon girl in his arms. “What’s wrong Yusuke, why in such a rush?”
The older spirit detective looked down at the bleeding and unconscious girl in his arms. “Well, let’s see: your boyfriend just went berserk, had his demon blood awaken and he tried to kill another demon with demon energy and his bare fists. Also, I have a bleeding and unconscious demon in my arms who is going to need mental medical attention. Also, right now you’re your dad is taking care of your mom, who just made Mukuro go all liquidy a while ago and she is passed out. If you don’t mind, I would like to go home.”
Hinote gaped at Yusuke as Ryu just looked really confused.
“Repeat that all again?”
*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Botan arrived and helped Hiei return the unconscious Amaya to their home, the water demon falling into a trance-like sleep. Nothing was obviously going to wake her up; the only sign of life coming from her form was her deep and even breathing.
While Amaya slept, Yusuke took his son into the Makai, the newly awakened demon needing to learn how to control his unpredictable powers. He was a fairly quick study, within days learning many of his father’s attacks as well as developing his own techniques.
While Amaya slept and Ryu trained, Hinote, Kaida, and Yukina took care of the wounded and corrupted Harime. Kaida and Yukina both sequestered themselves at Genkai’s temple, locked in a room with Harime. As Yukina tended to the physical wounds, Kaida repaired the mental damage, trying to sort through the young demon’s mind, finding the thoughts and half-truths that Mukuro had fed the Koorime. Three days after they entered the healing room, Kaida came out to rest, telling Hinote to guard the door and not release Harime, no matter what. The air apparition explained she had “turned off’ the girl’s powers, rendering her very human-like, and had repaired much of the damage to her mind. But the poor girl was very confused, harmless, but unable to make rational decisions.
For three days, Hinote followed Kaida’s direction, the air demon sleeping to regain her own lost energies. Yukina also slept, staying close to Harime’s room in case Hinote had a problem. But Hinote never did, Harime wandered around the small room staring at the walls, the only sound she made soft crying in the middle of the night. After the three days, Kaida and Yukina returned, throwing Hinote out, ready to complete the healing of Harime.
