Hiei's love

A/N All characters here belong to Yu Yu Hakusho's makers and producers. I have no claim to any. Even though Shaleeza/Kaletta is not my own fully, just name and storyline. Hope you all enjoy it. I hope I enjoy writing it. It would also seem that I am going OOC on alot of them. I'm not trying too, but hey, it's happening. Sorry!

The shadow followed them. Hiei was unaware, trying to regain control on his emotions fully to realize it, but Karama knew it was there. They had just approached the temple area, Karama could see Genkai waiting for them as they approached when Hiei raised his head and looked back. Karama saw this and nodded "It's been following us since we started walking." Hiei frowned "Let's take it here then, away from the temple." Karama gave a small nod and Genkai watched as they both stopped walking and turned tok bek behind them. Yusuke and Kuwabara joined her at the door, leaving Boton talking to a quiet Kaletta. The three of them watched as Hiei and Karama's stance changed to one of quiet readiness. Yusuke and Kuwabara both left the porch of the temple and walked down to join their friends. Just as they approached, a large shadow emerged from the trees. A darkness covered them and Yusuke looked up, noticing dark clouds rolling across the sun before turning his attention back.

Kuwabara blinked at the shadow, it had no real shape. It appeared to be hulking and humainoid one moment and small and ferile the next. "What is that thing?"

Karama spoke quietly "A shadow beast. It feeds on emotions. You must have set it onto our trail at the tree, Hiei." Hiei nodded "An unfortunate problem. I intend to solve that right now." Pulling his sword out and his coat dropping, he seemingly flew behind it. His sword slashed right through the monster, but it just chuckled and adjusted around the sword. Unharmed, the shadow approached the temple. It felt the emotions in this place. They were high today. It usually avoided this place, but now that it had followed the others here, it could feel the desperation and pain emitting from one within. The feelings of this one were more free then of the one it followed, and that one was its new target.

It moved silently towards the temple. Genkai spoke low to the ones inside. "Boton, Kaletta, move now." They both stood up and moved to the temple entrance, seeing the shadow monster approach. Boton grabbed Kaletta's hand and pulled her back away from the door. "What is that thing, Genkai?" "A shadow monster, it's coming for Kaletta, move now." Kaletta gasped softly and backed up, seeing Hiei take another swipe at it. The shadow seemed to turn on Hiei, who was crouched on the ground, regarding it. A soft whisper left her lips "Hiei". In that instant, he looked straight at her and the shadow monster swung at him. Her scream echoed through the courtyard as his body flew through the air. She took off running towards him, slipping past Genkai and Boton's hands, trying to keep her back.

The monster slowly approached Hiei as Karama called forth his rose whip. Like with Hiei's sword, it sliced through the monster, not affecting it. The shadow paid the attacker no mind, it would feed on this one first, then go after the other one. It reached out a hand to Hiei, back in a humanoid form. Kaletta jumped in front of Hiei and he watched in horror as she was hit by it and thrown backwards. He cried out "NOOOOO" and turned to see Shaleeza's body hit a tree. Behind the monster he heard Yusuke start a familiar battle cry and jumped to his feet and ra Kal Kaletta's side as Yusuke shouted "Spirit Gun". The shadow monster continued to move towards the two of them. They were together now. It didn't get to far when Yusuke's blast hit hilly lly in the back and it burst into a thousand shadows, returning to the darkness of the forest, moving away to recover. The clouds moved past the sun and Genkai and Boton joined the others to watch Hiei and Kaletta.

Kaletta groaned softly and opened painful eyes to look into Hiei's face. Knowing him as well as she does, she saw through his carefully erected emotional barrier. He regarded her as she lay there. "Why did you do that?" Kaletta smiled softly at him and closed her eyes to the sun for a moment before looking back into his eyes "Because I love you."

He shook his head "How do I know for sure? I can't handle it if this is not you this time." He fought against the urge to just say the words that would bring her back, but stopped short of saying them. He was not willing to be disappointed yet. Kaletta reached up to him with Shaleeza's hand and touched his cheek before whispering "Even different forms and minds can not mask kindred souls". His eyes closed and he heard those words again, echoing through his heart, in her true voice. He opened his eyes and looked into her eyes. He saw her soul in there, one that was familiar to him. "They are such simple words. The terms to get you back were so simple, yet so difficult. I stopped looking after 153 years, Kaletta. I lost hope." He felt the need to confess to her before anything else happened. His words were bitter as he studied her face. She closer eyr eyes and a tear escaped "So did I" He kissed her forehead and whispered "Return to me Kaletta, my life is nothing without you." With that he bent forward and kissed her lips tenderly.

Kuwabara muttered to the others "How wierd is that. Hiei is kissing someone." The rest were smiling at Hiei and Kaletta.

Beneath Hiei, Kaletta shimmered and a white light engulfed them both. When it faded a small woman, lay in Shaleeza's place. Her earthy brown hair fanned out around her head, her arms wrapped around Hiei's neck. He pulled back from the kiss to see Kaletta before him, in her true form. Her green eyes watched him sharply. A single tear fell from his eyes "Kaletta" She reached up a hand to his cheek, gazing at him. Her eyes suddenly dartver ver his shoulder and widened. He spun, assuming that he was being attacked again by the shadow, when he saw her companion spirit approach them. He turned to her and looked questioningly at her. "Our child. Slow his decent love, or he will tear me apart." He blinked, he had forgotten temporarily about their baby. He understood though, her abdomen was flat, the baby not returned yet. The light instantly zoomed into her womb to connect with it's body. His hands covered her abdomen, his powers slowing the growing fetus. She tensed under him, her eyes closed, her fingers gripping the ground as the speed of the baby's growth stretched her womb. She gasped in pain, her hands joining his, her own powers flowing. He whispered to her "No Kaletta, save your energy." Her pain filled eyes opened to meet his and she removed her hands, letting him care for her.

Genkai nodded slightly to herself as she watched the couple struggle to slow the child. She turned and walked away, "Come along" The others turned to her "What, why?" was Kuwabara's reply. "You dimwit, do you think they really need an audience for their first moments together after 350 years?" Karama chuckled and looked over at Hiei and Kaletta again, his hands now resting on her stomach, her hands over his. They were not talking, just looking at each other silently.
