Changes and Confusion

When most people black out they just lose consciousness and don’t realize what just happened, but in Nozomi’s case she didn’t just black out but she felt like she was burning up inside. She could feel a heat radiating from the center of her forehead, down to her toes. Burning her; making her skin cringe, as if telling her that it wants to be removed. Her body was fully aware of what was going on around her, but her mind was slowly losing everything.

In an instant Nozomi could feel pain, hands grabbing at her, and she could almost feel the voices of the people trying to scream. Opening her eyes she noticed that most people weren’t able to talk and everyone was trying to close the doors they had so adamantly worked to open.

‘Pitiful, you had spent so much time worrying about how you could get out, and now all you want is to stay in. Serves you right!’ A voice said, almost as if it was in her head. She couldn’t figure it out, she knew that wasn’t her voice, but she didn’t hear it spoken by anyone.

Finally getting the chance to look around she noticed the hands that were working to get her up, were Shuichi’s hands.

“What are you doing?!” She attempted to scream at him, only causing her throat to clench even harder. So she opted to finish mouthing the rest of her angered sentence.

“Help you,” he mouthed back.

“Why?”

“Because, it’s what I’ve done since the day we’ve met. You are mine and I won’t let anything bad ever happen to you.”

“What the fuck?!” at this point Nozomi forced herself to find the strength to get up and back away. She couldn’t believe what she thought she just read. “I am not yours! I don’t even care for you; you are everything I never wanted to be! And you are always trying to prove that you are better than me, so why should you fucking care about me?” She could tell those words hit a few chords a little wrong, almost as if she had hurt his feelings. Did he actually care that much that he would do anything for her?

Looking at him she noticed the look in his eyes wasn’t his normal sparkle, that sparkle that usually pissed her off to no end. She never understood it, he was always there when she felt the most miserable and yet he always looked so happy. So why did he look so horrible, she was feeling worse than miserable. It just didn’t make any sense to her!

“I love you, don’t you love me anymore?” he mouthed to her, but she was so wrapped up in her own anger towards him that she never noticed.

Looking at the open doors, Nozomi decided to attempt to help the struggling teachers attempt to close them. As she made her way over, her body began to ache even more. She started to feel as if she had just run a couple dozen marathons without ever having trained or stretched, feeling as if she was overusing her muscles just by walking towards the door. At this point she knew that the heat wasn’t causing her fatigue, it was something else. What ever that damn Shuichi did to her when he kissed her must have been the cause of her pain.

When she finally got to the doors, she grabbed hold of the first thing she could and started pushing. To her surprise the door actually started closing, which helped to give her the confidence to move to the next door and start closing that one. After a few minutes of struggling with the doors, they finally got them closed and everyone was able to sit down.

Minutes passed and slowly the room started to return to the original, far-too-low below freezing temperature. People started regaining their voices and everyone started fussing and complaining about how they ‘would never be able to see their loved ones again’ or how they ‘needed to get out of this hell hole’. As the voices continued to get louder the complaining only worsened, words flying around about how horrible of a school this was or how it was a conspiracy set against them all by terrorists.

Nozomi just sat on a chair, watching as people’s emotions flew from anger to depression and back to anger again. She had always enjoyed watching movies where things like this would happen, but she never dreamed of ever being able to experience it. As her mind drifted off, she remembered the words Shuichi had spoken to her ‘don’t you love me anymore?’. The thought of ever having loved him was unimaginable to her, why did he ever get the idea that she loved him. He had his group of adoring fan girls who would have done anything to touch him or kiss him or do anything with him, but she had never been one of those girls. She had never even given him a thought or care about wanting more than just a friendly rivalry between the two of them. They had never gone out as friends nor had she ever spoken towards him (unless it was in the form of a debate), so where would he have come up with such an absurd idea.

“Well speak of the devil,” she mumbled as she realized that he had started walking over towards her, this time with his gang of “friends”. “What do you want, gonna try to make me believe it was YOU who had closed those doors and not me?”

“No, I’d never do something like that to you. I just wanted to introduce you to my friends,” he said with his sparkle once again in his eyes. He was surely trying to make her fall for him, but it wasn’t going to work! She’s not as stupid as the rest of the girls in their school.

“Alright. Hello all. My name is Nozomi and I’m Shuichi here’s rival. He’s always tried to be better at me than everything and now he’s trying to force me to believe we’ve been dating. Sadly I don’t read too much into his newfound hobby and I’m just trying to make sure that he doesn’t do anything stupid, have any of you noticed a change in his behavior lately? He might have accidentally hit his head against something which could be causing these strange ideas to float into his mind. Please if any of you know what’s going on, feel free to let me know,” with that she stood up and walked off, smirking.

“Great catch you’ve got there Kurama,” the short guy said. She couldn’t hear the rest of the conversation but she knew it was definitely about her. Not that she cared; she couldn’t care about any of them. All she cared about now was getting the heck out of the gym and back to the safety of her bed.

The only thing that bothered her was the fact that she had been the one who could close the doors. She had never been the athletic type, she was always the bookworm. How was it that she could close those doors, when even the football coach (who had always been able to run laps around his whole team and was no doubtedly stronger than her) couldn’t close those doors? Was she honestly getting stronger, was that why she could feel her muscles aching? And what was that strange voice she had heard earlier, it almost sounded like her but she knew it wasn’t her voice!
