Summary: Circumstances of Hiei's true heritage come to light, forcing Botan to take drastic measures. Will she regret her decision or will he come to accept them.
The pain ripped through his gut as he glared up at the ugly old hag. His energy refused to obey as he wanted to wipe that smirk off her wrinkled features. What the hell had they done to him? For the last month he’d felt like hell. Everyday he began to feel weaker and groggier. His senses were almost duller than Kuwabara’s taste in clothes. The woman cackled as he doubled over with the next wave. What was wrong with him? He doubted that the woman would tell him or that she had anything to do with it. It had begun long before she’d shown herself. Just yesterday he’d been patrolling when they’d attacked him. Mukuro had insisted that he didn’t look well but he’d been too proud to admit the truth.
Now the bitch was giving him another shot of something and he was helpless to do anything about it. Before it had taken several koorime to hold him down. Now all he could do was breath as she stuck him. It was no longer in him to fight as the pain intensified. Blood red eyes closed feeling the surge of heat in his groin. It all seemed centered around that part of his anatomy. What the fuck was his member thinking? Even his balls were aching as the woman stood up to depart. The fluid she’d just injected made his world spin and his mouth dry. Would he die here? In the land in which he’d grown up hating?
Botan turned the oar slightly to the west and frowned. The compass was pointing in this direction but what was out here? They’d received the report late yesterday from Mukuro. Hiei had been attacked and kidnaped by unknown assailants. Kurama and Yusuke had asked her to him search for him. Mukuro and her team was also searching for the man. While they had nothing but their own powers to go on, she didn’t have much either. Mukuro said she couldn’t sense him anywhere even with her telepathic powers. Botan put her hand back down and followed the equipment. Luckily she had a kit that carried strands of the team’s hair. Hiei was no longer part of the team but she’d saved a few strands just in case of an emergency. Now had to be that because he was nowhere to be found. Her heart plummeted believing the worst, he couldn’t be dead.
As the oar soared through the air, she spotted something in the distance. Glancing at the compass once more she frowned. It was pointing towards that floating city. Despair filled her recognizing the place, Koorime Island. What on earth was Hiei doing here? Yukina hadn’t returned as far as she knew. True Hiei was her brother and so would have some connection to this place. If they took him against his will, she couldn’t just saunter up and take him back by herself. First, she had to make sure he was here before calling the others.
No one came out to greet her as she landed on the floating island. Knowing she’d be attacked on sight the oar was put up but ready in case she needed to make a run for it. Now, where would they take him? Seeing the largest building near the center she crept through the city. Only once was she almost spotted. She glanced around the corner to see all the women walking around. Snatching a kimono from inside the nearest hut she slipped it over her head, time to blend in. That done she made it to the central building and climbed through a window. Surprisingly the room was large but empty, all for the fire blazing in the center. Several women stood around it speaking.
Tip-toeing she headed behind one of the pillars and listened intently. The elderly woman didn’t bother to lower her voice or speak in a civil manner. The creepy voice was filled with anger and hate as she snapped at the woman standing across from her. Botan held her breath hearing the fire apparition’s name.
“Hiei is an abomination! Do not think to interfere Rui or you will pay the price. This is nature stepping in and reinforcing it’s law. The fool doesn’t even realize yet what is happening to him. We have to make sure that he doesn’t do the unthinkable. Until it is too late for him, I will make sure he is kept in the cell. My vision must not come to pass. This is the way of our people. Even if his allies and friends come for him, it’ll be too late. Within an hour the seed will have given up the search and implanted itself inside his body. He will know pain and suffering like no other.”
Botan saw the woman called Rui nod and walk out of the room. Maybe, just maybe she’d be able to help. Without waiting she quickly followed after the woman. As she stepped out into the cool air the woman turned to her. Botan gulped as the koorime confronted her. If she so much as yelled she’d whack her one good time with a face full of oar.
“You are here for Hiei, are you not? Come and I’ll take you to him.” Rui didn’t wait for the strange woman to answer but walked towards the main tower in which the man was being held. It wasn’t right for him to die in such a horrible manner. To be denied what was only natural was a cruel fate. She hadn’t been able to save Hina but would do as she could for her son. The son she herself had tossed off the island a century ago. The woman silently followed her until the got to the door. It was unlocked, the elder not fearing his escape or anyone helping him. “How did you find him?”
“A compass with his DNA, what’s going on here and why are you helping me?” Botan watched the door open and almost fell to her knees. The usually strong and cocky man was laying on his back withering in pain. What had that old hag done to him? His head didn’t even turn their way as they entered the room. The koorime looked the door from the inside as Botan felt tears well. “What did she do to him?”
“Nothing but to give him a drug to make sure he wouldn’t try to escape. What you see he is doing to himself. Let me explain something but we don’t have much time. Koorime are all female and reproduce on our own. Every century our body goes through a process in which we make a child, a replica in a manner of speaking. Our bodies reproduce a child from our own energy and cells. During those few weeks it takes to create, we are weak. When it is complete it travels in our blood stream to find the womb in which it can grow. From there it connects to our energy and grows. Not like a normal human or youkai pregnancy but it is our way of life. Hiei here is the child of Hina, a koorime. Even though he is male and has taken mostly after his father I fear he hasn’t escaped that part of his heritage. Unfortunately for him, he isn’t a female. His body is trying to reproduce as nature is dictating him to do so. Him being in the stage of creation, she knew he’d be weak enough to capture.”
Rui bent down to place a hand on his forehead. His eyes opened but they contained a glassy look to them. He had no idea who she was or where he was. “In his case since he doesn’t have a womb in which to carry the child the seed looks for another means of survival. If the elder wouldn’t have captured him he’d have no doubt found a female in which to relieve it upon. Even if he has no idea what is wrong with himself, he would have done so out of instinct. Finding a woman to mate with would have been a strong desire. If he doesn’t find a host soon then the seed will have no choice to implant itself inside his body. Within a few weeks it will kill him. That is what our elder is waiting for. To place a horrible fate worse than death upon the Forbidden Child.”
“What! You’ve got to do something, we can’t just let him die. Isn’t there a way to get rid of it?” Botan flipped open her communicator to contact Yusuke. Surely, Kurama or Mukuro could do something for him before it was too late. As she quickly told the detective of her whereabouts the koorime glancing back her with a saddened expression. “They should be here within the hour, how much time to we have? Also, why does she even care if he has a child?”
“A month ago she had a vision in the midst of a dream. The Forbidden Child, she herself had cast aside would bear an offspring. In that child would be the soul of Hina. The woman that had been doomed to take her own life for the loss of her children. His mother will come back to seek revenge since he could not. Your friends may come but it will be too late. It is why she no longer worries about him leaving. By the time help comes or he can stumble out of here the child will have attached itself to him. Within weeks his body will start to being torn from the inside out. We have less than an hour before it begins. The energy is gathering to work itself up his bloodstream.”
“Well, we can’t just sit here. Do something, you said he needs a female womb. Well get to it already, you can carry a child right.” Botan stomped her foot at the sorrowful woman. She was a koorime and she wanted to help the man. Then it was settled, let her carry the child for the fire apparition.
“I see you understand. Believe me, I feel regret over what happened to his mother but I cannot. My cycle of life has already begun. Even now I carry my own offspring within my womb. Nature will force the seed to find an able womb. Mine is already occupied, it would not even seek me out. If you truly wish to spare his life, you are an option.”
“You’ve got to be kidding me! I can’t carry his child, he hates me. I’m sure the only reason he hasn’t killed me yet is because he fears Koenma punishing him. Find some other girl to do it, the city is full of them. No way, it’s out of the question.” Botan shook her head, she couldn’t do it. It was true, the man couldn’t stand her. He made it known on many an occasion he barely tolerated her presence.
“They will not help. They fear the wrath of the elder, they will let him die. There isn’t much time if you want to save him. Despite what you say you must care. You came looking for him and it must be done soon. All you have to do is mate with him. It won’t be enjoying for either of you. His body still has that urge even with the drugs she’s given him. I am not a complete stranger to the male anatomy. His manhood should do what is necessary to implant the child. It shouldn’t take no more than a few minutes at most. I will buy you the time you need in order to do so. Hurry before it is too late.”
Botan felt the blood rush out of her face. How did she get herself into these situations? The hybrid moaned and rolled over onto his back. So his mother had been a koorime and he was a forbidden child. A male child born into a population of females. That horrible woman had tossed him aside as a baby. No wonder he seemed so bitter. Starting out life hated and scorned for circumstances beyond his control. His mother had killed herself over it. Would she really come back as the child now waiting to be conceived? Was it waiting to be conceived? Hell she still wasn’t sure how the whole thing worked but Hiei’s body couldn’t carry a child and that bitch was preventing him from doing what nature was demanding and find a female to carry the offspring. Could she allow Hiei to die just for the sake of modesty?
~~~~~~~~
Kurama stopped Mukuro as they landed on the retched isle. He could sense Botan not far away. Yusuke took off running towards the tower fearful for their friend. The ferry girl had said he was in bad shape. The former king scowled as the elderly woman came out of the main building looking smug and too happy with herself. “What have you done with Hiei?”
“I have done nothing to that wretched creature. I didn’t have to, I simply let nature take it’s course. He will learn that nature has a way of fixing it’s mistakes. Shame he didn’t take completely after that bastard that sired him. To be cursed with the body of a koorime while being a male. I simply refused him an outlet, that is all. It was time for his cycle to reproduce. Our kind have no choice in the matter, it is a part of life. Being male at the last stage his body would have looked for a female in which to carry his disgusting seed. Not having one the child will do the unthinkable and implant itself in his body. Within weeks his body will start to fail and he will die a horrible death. You may take him if you wish but you have come too late.” She smirked at the half metal female. “I also know all about your technology, that will not save him. Once the seed has been planted it will bond with his own energy. To try and remove it will kill them both instantly. Hiei is doomed, so take his corpse if you wish, I have won.”
Mukuro grabbed the old lady by the throat. Glee filled her as the thick throat began to crush beneath her finger tips. This was the old bitch that had tossed him aside for no reason except to be born. She would take great pleasure in ending her miserable life. “You will die.”
“Release her,” Hiei took a deep breath as Yusuke shifted his position. His vision was blurred but he could barely make out the two forms. The truth didn’t shock him but he’d accept it. “Let that bitch think she won if she wants. I’ve felt the desire to find a mate for days. She did nothing, even if she thinks so. I wouldn’t have found myself a female. Simply because I refuse to reproduce any children. I prefer to die than to bring a child so it can share my wretched fate. All she managed to do was make me feel like shit. If what she says is true then I will accept it and die with honor. I didn’t find myself a mate because I want no child. I’d rather kill the child than let it be born with me as the father.”
“Hiei?” Kurama frowned at the words, surely the man didn’t mean them. As he finally collapsed against Yusuke there was acceptance on his face. Did the man really want to die? Would having a child be that bad for him? Just because he’d been discarded didn’t mean any child he produced would be. “Very well, you heard him. Let’s get out of here.”
“Yeah, I’ll go inform Koenma and head on back.” Botan stammered and brought her oar forth. The need to get out of there was strong. Could he really mean that? Had he been prepared to die before siring a child? He said he’d kill the child also. Panic filled her, she’d made a mistake. Oooh, just like her luck. She’d done it and now he wanted to die. What a moron! What was going to happen in a few weeks when the stubborn jackass didn’t keel over? Would anyone figure it out? What was she to do? Even if the man had lain there without moving his body had reacted to her touch. It had been painful on her part but she’d endured it to save him. Having to sit down on his member and move to get him to blow his load hadn’t been the jolliest thing to do. There was no going back for her now, she’d felt the energy as it entered her womb. Hiei’s child had rushed from his body sensing a host.
Someone should smack that ungrateful prick. She jumped on the wooden transport and ignored the slight pain. As disturbing as the thought was she should have spit on it to help the ordeal. The man hadn’t helped either. The koorime hadn’t been lying when she said his body would react to it. His hips had lifted before she’d been prepared. The stabbing pain of him entering her untried body wasn’t something she’d likely forget anytime soon. What could she do now? Hiei would live, that was the important thing. Though he’d likely kill her for fucking him while he was out of it. Not to mention the child he didn’t want. “I’ll keep in touch.”
~~~~~~~~
Genkai almost laughed at the ferry girl. The girl looked absolutely miserable waddling towards Yukina. So Koenma had sought her out. Sighing she knew she couldn’t say no. Her one wish was for this place to be a safe haven for youkai. She could almost pity the girl for the situation she was in. Yusuke and Kurama had both told Yukina of Hiei’s predicament believing the man would be dead in several weeks. Seven months had passed and the stubborn fool was still breathing. Now she knew why, Botan had done the unthinkable. Did the girl know what she’d done by impregnating herself with the hybrid’s child? Somehow she doubted it, the girl barely thought before she acted. She’d been stuck with a choice, do it or let Hiei die. Even if she was a silly female she had a big heart. “Does she intend on telling Hiei?”
“Sadly no, we both believe this is for the best. The man swore to kill any child he sired. I don’t believe he’d go that far but Botan won’t hear of it. She plans to keep it despite the origins. I have spoken to my father and he has given in. We’ll allow her to have the child and raise it. Once it is full grown and able to fend for itself she may resume her duties if she wishes.” Koenma watched her walk over to a large Yukina. Figures, she’d be pregnant too. The two were twins so their time had started about the same time. Botan would be happy here as long as no one found out. Which is why he waited until Kuwabara had left for college before bringing the girl. That boy had a loud mouth.
Yukina waved at the girl as she approached. Placing a hand on her large stomach she got a small answer. The baby was kicking a lot these days. Her daughter was more than ready to be born. She was shocked to hear that Botan was pregnant for Hiei. She’d been told the truth when Kurama and Yusuke had came to see her. Her brother should be dead by now. The answer as to why was wobbling towards her with a saddened expression. “Botan!”
“How’s it going? You look great,” Botan rubbed the small of her back. This thing was going to kill her before too long. It wouldn’t stop kicking her ribs. It must have inherited it’s father’s dislike of her. The woman said it was a replica in a smaller form. Well, the man had made sure to tell it to abuse her. Another kick was delivered and she winced. The little brat was already asking for a spanking. If it came into the world telling her to ‘Get Lost’ she’d scream before tossing herself off of a cliff.
“Thanks, I feel tired. I was up last night for some time. Do you know what you want to have? I know mine will be a girl but you might have a boy if it’s Hiei’s.” Yukina smiled as the woman blushed. It was to be expected. Yukina knew what she’d done and was thankful. It made her love and appreciate the ferry girl all the more. She’d kept her brother alive because he hated himself too much to allow anyone to love him.
“I think it’s a she.” Botan didn’t want to tell anyone of the woman’s vision. If there was even one, the old hag could have just been hateful because she was feeling guilty. She just knew that it was a tiny girl dwelling inside her womb. A beautiful little girl that would be the spitting image of the man that had created her. Running a hand over her stomach she frowned. A tiny foot was kicking at the palm, “She’s as rude as her father.”
“Think you’ll ever tell him?” Yukina walked over to place her hand over the woman’s protruding stomach. The baby settled as she smiled. One day he might want to know the child he’d created. The child the woman before her had carried out of love. Even as the woman tried to look detached Yukina could see it whenever his name was spoken. Anyone else would have let nature take it’s course. Whatever the reasons she’d given herself had merely covered up the truth. “I think we’ll get along just fine.”
Botan was thankful that the woman’s touch seemed to calm the child. She couldn’t tell him, she didn’t want to die. Nor did she want the child in her womb to be harmed. It didn’t matter if it had no blood relation to her. She’d felt it move for the very first time and had begun to love it. Hiei alone had made it but she thought of it as her own. Didn’t matter if she was nothing more than a surrogate mother. “I don’t know. Think he’ll ever accept the fact that I did it? He’s more likely to slice my head off before hearing me out. We both know he doesn’t like me. The man can’t stand me and we know it. He wouldn’t spit on me if I were on fire. Instead he’d ask Kurama to pass the marshmallows. If he ever found out that I jumped him while he was drugged he’d likely fry my ass with his dragon.”
“I’m sure he’ll come around in time. I’ve got some tea on, would you like to go inside?” Yukina left Koenma and Genkai to discuss the details of Botan’s stay. Her stomach growled at the thought of food. Yesterday they’d gone into town to purchase some ice cream. The door closed behind him softly, as if securing the deal.
~~~~Five Years Later~~~~
Kuwabara spotted the two men leaning against the building, both looking too damn smug. This was the last time they treated him like an idiot. Did they think he was stupid? Once again they were keeping secrets from him. Just because he’d been away at college didn’t mean they had to shut him out. Dammit he was still part of the team. Yusuke and Kurama glanced up and smiled seeing him walking over. As soon as he stopped next to them he let them have it. “Dammit, I am so sick and tired of you two doing this. Every time something important happens you leave me out. What you don’t think I’m smart enough to handle it. Look, if we are going to continue being friends then you can’t leave me out of the loop. Don’t look at me like that, I saw her. Try to fool the Mighty Kuwabara. I’m smart, I can put two and two together.”
“Calm down Kuwabara.” Yusuke held up his hands waving the man off. What the hell was he blabbering about now? Figures he was gone for a few years to college and come back acting like an ass. He hadn’t been home for a week and was demanding shit. Was he upset over Yukina? No one had seen the girl in years but all knew she was at Genkai’s after having her own child. Him and Kurama both had been too busy to head on up there and visit. Not like Grandma wanted to see either one of them. When she did she’d come into town and stop by their business. Him and Kurama had gone into business together opening up a restaurant. It was doing great, so they hadn’t had time in the last five years to do anything but work. Keiko had gone up there a few times to visit Yukina but hadn’t reported anything strange. No one had seen Hiei either for that matter. Five months after his brush with death the man became a hermit in Mukuro’s moving fortress. The man refused to even visit his sister. He’d come one time when Yukina was barely showing. Yusuke wondered if seeing his sister carrying a child had effecting him, if only a little. The old woman had been wrong and Hiei hadn’t died. Kurama suggested that Hiei’s body had destroyed the seed instead of allowing it to attach itself since he wasn’t fully koorime.
“Don’t tell me to calm down dammit. When were you guys going to tell me? Think I wouldn’t notice or was you hoping I’d went blind while away? I even confronted Yukina about it and she wouldn’t talk to me. Dammit, now I want the truth.” He grabbed Urameshi by his shirt collar and screamed. “I thought it was strange that the shrimp suddenly took off. You guys didn’t stop him either.”
“What the hell are you talking about?” Did the man finally realize that Hiei was Yukina’s sibling? That wouldn’t explain his anger. Then again it might, since he felt left out sometimes. He’d known Yukina would have a child so what was his deal? Yusuke shrugged as Kurama looked at him just as lost.
“Tell us what you are talking about. I’m afraid we are just as confused as you at the moment. You’ve caught us by surprise. Take a deep breath and explain yourself then maybe we can answer your question. What happened with Yukina?” Kurama was having the same thoughts as Yusuke. Had the man figured out the relationship between the two finally?
“I’m talking about that kid. I went up there to visit Yukina. I saw her outside, she was playing with her daughter. Even as I rushed to go greet them I was attacked by some little brat. Why didn’t you two tell me Botan had a kid? After it ran off, she came out and it called her Momma.” Kuwabara saw both of their faces go pale and mouths dropped open in shock. Wait a minute, “You guys didn’t know did you? You mean I’m the first person to see it?”
“Are you sure you saw her with a child?” Kurama was shocked to hear him say it. Everyone knew Yukina had given birth to a daughter. None of them had been seen since the day they’d found Hiei. When had she gotten pregnant. “What exactly did you see?”
“What do you think I saw. Like I said I was attacked by a kid. I swear it looked just like that little shrimp except it was a girl and hadn’t reached three feet yet. Oh and it had long hair and some manners because she apologized about kicking me in the sack. I’m telling you that Botan and Hiei did the nasty.” He screamed as Yusuke snatched him up and screamed.
“Are you sure that’s what you saw? Tell me you are kidding Kuwabara.” Yusuke didn’t want to believe it. The hybrid hadn’t stepped foot back into the Ningenkai. If the child was old enough to try attacking someone it had to be a decent age. Is that why Genkai told them she’d visit them instead of them having to travel all the way to the middle of nowhere?
“Yusuke, I’m going. It seems Kuwabara wasn’t the only one being left in the dark this time. I’m afraid Genkai and the others have been hiding something.” He hoped they were wrong. Was it possible that the ferry girl had interfered that day? She was known to do foolish things but would she do something so drastic to spare Hiei’s life? The man was alive today because the child hadn’t taken root. Perhaps it had but in another host. She’d left quickly that day, not staying to see if the man died afterwards. “That’s why she left so quick that day, she knew he wasn’t going to die.”
“What the hell was she thinking? Hiei’s going to be pissed when he finds out. Not to mention I’m going to shake some sense in her.” Yusuke left his friend standing there with a gaping mouth as he followed the kitsune. Both needed to know the truth before deciding what to do.
~~~~~~~
Hiei growled seeing the man walking towards him. What the hell did he want? His old friend didn’t look happy but what did he care. He didn’t want to speak to any of them. He preferred to stay in his solitary confinement. Even Mukuro rarely visited him. The woman said he was being foolish in his behavior. What the hell did that woman know? Could she understand the nightmares that were plaguing him? The cries of a child crying late at night. Then there were the dreams that confused him. He’d find himself in the arms of a faceless woman. Never before in his life had he bothered with carnal pleasures, seeing no need to involve himself with another. During that dream he felt a strong overwhelming feeling of being complete. It always hurt to wake up and find himself alone. The tender arms always welcomed him when he slumbered.
The other dream was un-welcomed. The cry had changed over the years. From that of a babe to a child. Was his inner conscious mourning the loss of the child? If so then why had his body disposed of it? He couldn’t ask any female to put themselves through that for him. No child deserved to be born only to be hated and scorned. He’d save them that fate. “What do you want?”
“I came to speak to you.” Kurama barely recognized his friend. The man looked like hell. Had the loss of the child affected him that greatly? Couldn’t have helped seeing Yukina that one time, so large with her child. He’d gone to inspect Kuwabara’s tale but had been turned away at the door. Not before he’d caught sight of Botan carrying a small girl inside the temple. He hadn’t been able to see the child’s face but the hair had been long and dark. The energy coming from the young girl had been astounding. It had been covered up completely until he’d entered the sanctuary of the temple grounds. How would the man react to learning that Botan may have carried his child?
“Say whatever it is then leave. I have things to do.” He leaned back in his chair as the fox stopped in front of him. The man couldn’t understand how he felt. Hell even he didn’t. It was like something was missing and he couldn’t get it back. He hadn’t wanted a child but the loss was destroying him daily. Even his body had known what a terrible burden being born from him would be. That is why it had destroyed it without giving it time to take root.
“Hiei, I have something to ask you. Has your opinion of having a child changed? Before you answer I must warn you to think first. Choose your reply carefully.” Kurama knew he had a right to know but he wouldn’t tell him if he thought for a second the man would harm the child. The girl couldn’t help who had sired her just as Hiei hadn’t been able to as a child. “Tell me, what would you do if your child was alive?”
“He isn’t, so you can stop your probing. I don’t care either way, it’s in the past.” He sneered, trying to hide the pain thinking about it caused. Did the fox think to talk him out of his depression? If so the man would fail and waste both of their time. He liked things how they were. “Leave me, go back home.”
“Not until you answer me. That day you said you’d kill the child before allowing it to leave. Would you really destroy something just because it was yours? Would even you go as far as condemning her because of her parentage? Would you sink as low as the ones you hated all your life? To destroy a child because of it’s origins? Will you do as the ones that would toss a baby to it’s death without remorse? Would you really kill your own child?” Kurama’s eyes widened as the man’s aura lashed out.
Hiei moved before the man had time to react. The edge of his blade was pressed into his throat. His friend didn’t move or seem afraid. “You said her, what do you know Kurama? You wouldn’t goad me without reason. I suggest you answer and without any tricks. Why did you call the child a she?” His eyes narrowed as the man smiled suddenly.
“I thought as much, I’m glad I came then. Now, if you will release me I’ll tell you what I know.” He was relieved when the blade was removed. For a brief second he’d been scared of the small man. No matter what boast the man had made he cared about family. It was the one thing he’d always longed for, a place to belong. The way he’d protected Yukina was proof enough. “Let me explain something, don’t be rude and interrupt. I just found this out a few days ago so don’t accuse me of keeping it from you either. I came as soon as I knew. Same goes for Yusuke and Kuwabara, it was actually Kuwabara that brought it to our attention. Do you remember what you said that day? You stated that you’d kill any child you created. You should have kept your mouth shut I’m afraid because of that boast your child has been denied you, I’m afraid.”
Kurama rubbed the tender flesh and sat down on the empty seat. He wanted to gauge the man’s reaction before he gave him a name. “That day someone managed to get to you in time. Being informed of what was happening and seeing the state you were in, she took matters into her own hands. While we were on our way to come for you, she spared your life. She left that day knowing she carried your child. We believe she feared what you would do if you found out. So she had the child in secret and has been raising it.”
Hiei swore and kicked the table across the room. Anger filled him, he was going to choke that bitch. All this time he’d thought he was going mental. Losing his mind because he’d been dreaming about her doing exotic things with her body. Images of her over him as his body found intense pleasure. She’d also been the only female there when he’d woken up. It had been her standing next to Yusuke as they walked out of the tower. He could recall her voice asking if he was okay. “Where the hell is she now? Tell me or I swear I’ll head to the Reikai and tear it apart.”
“If I tell you, you have to promise you will not harm either of them. They have had five years together and she did what she thought was best. At first it was to spare not only her life but that of a unborn child. I’m sure by now the child is attached. You can’t barge in there and tear them apart.” Kurama saw him nod before answering. Hiei wasn’t the type to go back on his word. “Very well, they have been living at Genkai’s with Yukina.”
~~~~~~~~
Botan laughed as the two girl’s bickered over who’s flower was prettier. A cool wind picked up sending her hair to the side. Days like this she thought of cutting it but Yukina would have a fit if she mentioned it. Mirth filled her as they scrambled to find more. The field had blossomed in the last week. Soon Yukina would be coming to join them. Genkai had left this morning to head into town to do some shopping.
“Don’t go far you two.” Smiling she watched her own daughter run ahead leaving the other girl in the dust. Deep down she knew the child had no biological attachment to her. But she’d fallen in love with the child seeing that adorable face the first time. Hina looked exactly like her father except she was female and beautiful. As expected of being born from Hiei, the child was extremely powerful at a young age. Genkai had taken it upon herself to train the girl. Days like this she wished Hiei had wanted a child. The small girl was a priceless treasure, one meant to be cherished.
Glancing over she thought she heard footsteps. The door to the temple was still shut, Yukina had yet to come out. A tingling sensation went down her spine as a twig snapped behind her. Panic filled her as she spun around. The short man didn’t look too happy to see her. He looked down right pissed, she saw her death being played out in those narrow orbs. Her breath caught wondering why he was there. Had he come to see Yukina? That had to be it, he didn’t know about the child. Taking a step back she asked, “What are you doing here Hiei?”
He ignored the question and looked the woman over. She looked different from the last time he’d seen her. It was the first time he’d seen her with her hair down. Her face looked more mature and her body had filled out. Or had it always been that way and he hadn’t bothered to pay attention before? His body responded as his eyes landed on the curve of her breast. The material clung to them, leaving nothing to the imagination. She was nervously chewing on her bottom lip as he stared. Laughter got his attention suddenly. The woman gasped in fear as his eyes sought them out. Two children were playing behind her, one looked exactly like his twin sister. Pain filled his chest as the second child turned in their direction. “You bitch!”
Botan saw him take a step closer, his attention on the little girl. Fear made her react as he took another step. Anger filled his eyes as he sneered at the little ones. She screamed for Yukina as she summoned the only weapon on hand. The oar made a terrible threat but she swung it at the man with all the strength she had. She wouldn’t allow him to harm her child. A tight grip grasped the wooden contraption before it could make a solid impact.
Hiei wanted to smack her for attacking him. What was she thinking? As it landed in his hand, he decided to get rid of it. With a flick of his wrist he threw it towards the temple. His eyes widened when the ferry girl refused to let go of the pathetic weapon. The force in which he’d thrown it made the foolish woman go with it. Before he could correct the mistake and catch her a fist landed into his right cheek. Pain filled his head as he staggered back a few feet. As his eyes focused the sound of something solid hitting the wooden frame was heard. “Dammit.”
“You hurt Mommy.” Hiei felt his jaw drop as a blast slammed into his chest as the child screamed at him. What the hell was the brat doing? It wasn’t enough to do serious harm but irritated him just the same. The small child stood defiantly before him. Scarlet eyes filled with anger to match his own bore down on him. A few tears were streaming down her face but the kid held her ground. He felt his own anger increase as the brat went to attack again.
“Brother DON’T!” Yukina screamed without thinking. Her heart was frozen with her body as the man remained motionless as the child tried to hit him again. Instead of striking back, he dodged the attacks. She sighed in relief and ran to the prone form of Botan. What had happened? She couldn’t believe that her brother had attacked her friend. “Hina, stop and see to your mother.”
Hiei watched as the child landed a few feet from him. Before running off she stuck her tongue out at him. As the child went to sit by the ferry girl, Yukina left her side. He wasn’t sure what to say to either of them. His own child had just attacked him. His mind was slow to respond and register what she’d said. Yukina had called him brother. Had the wench told her of their relationship? Yet another reason to make her suffer later. “It was an accident.”
“I’m sure you didn’t mean to hurt Botan. She’ll be just fine when she wakes up. You haven’t came to see me in years so I assume you came because you found out about Hina.” She smiled seeing the color drain from his face. Did he think she was that naive? While Botan was scared of him she was not. He wouldn’t hurt any of them, especially his own child. “Come, we will go talk.”
~~~~~~~
Botan pushed the noodles around her plate. The meal didn’t have any taste nor did the company. Before a month ago she’d have been anxious about this date. Hiroshi was every bit of a gentleman and loved her company. She couldn’t be that entertaining today with all the brooding she was doing. She wasn’t sure what bothered her more; the fact that Hiei seemed to dote on Hina or that he ignored herself completely. The child had taken a few days to warm up to the man. It didn’t take long for her to forget that he’d sent Botan airborne. She knew it was bound to happen one day. The girl was his child and she’d only carried her. By all rights she had no claim. It still hurt knowing that soon she’d lose the child she’d come to love as her own.
Hiei had spoken to her once and that was only to inform her that he planned to stick around for a while. How long would it be before he informed her of his decision to take the child back to the Makai with him? It would kill her when he did so. She couldn’t imagine that Mukuro being a good mother. Still Hiei made mention of going back there to Yukina more than once. Of course when he spoke, he never looked at her. It was like she didn’t exist for him. That stung most of all. She might have been wrong in hiding it but what else could she have done? If he wasn’t such an ass and claimed he’d kill the child then she might not have done so. How was she to know what he’d do?
Even her usual date did nothing to lift her mood. She wanted the small man to know she was there. Was it because she’d felt a part of him growing inside her for so long? Or had something been there to begin with? None of it would help her problem, she was at a loss. There were times she’d go out to speak to him. All she was rewarded with was him turning his back on her. It pissed her off that she could be there trying to talk to him and he’d ignore her. Then the second Hina or Yukina came out speaking he’d acknowledge them. He treated Hana well also, hell even Genkai was shown some respect. All she was entitled to was cold indifference at most.
As she’d held the newborn Hina in her arms she wished to be a family with the cold man. Had that been the reason she’d done it? Because deep down it was what she wanted to begin with? She’d always loved the strange group of friends being part of them. They were all special to her in some way. Had her feelings for him gone deeper at one point? How she couldn’t bloody imagine. He had never been nice to her. She was being stupid and childish to want something she could never have. Did she love Hina so much because she was Hiei’s?
“Are you okay Botan, you seem upset?” Hiroshi grabbed her hand across the table. The last two dates she’d seemed off, not quite herself. She’d made mention of Hina’s father coming around after so many years. They’d been dating for a year and hadn’t gotten anywhere near what he wanted. The woman was beautiful and special. Up until a month ago she’d always been quick to smile and charm him. Now, all she did was frown and stare off into space. It had to be that man’s doing. He was making her unhappy by being there. Would the man leave if he confronted him? He didn’t want to lose the only good thing he had going. He loved Botan but feared she was still in love with her child’s father.
“Oh, I’m fine just a little tired. Mind if you take me home now? I’ll feel better after I get some rest.” The lie flowed freely from her lips. Why couldn’t she just get over it already. She’d done what she set out to do. She’d spared Hiei’s life that day and had kept the child alive as well. It was her own fault she’d gotten attached knowing the girl didn’t belong to her.
She remained quiet the whole way back to the temple. The drive was long, too much time for her to think about what was missing in her life. After being with her boyfriend for a year she’d yet to allow him to bed her. He’d hinted around to it a few times but she told him she needed time. Koenma had said she could remain here until the child was grown. She wanted a family and someone special to be with, so why couldn’t she bring herself to be with a man that seemed to love her? He had made the declaration already and told her he’d wait. Every date he brought her roses and opened the doors. Yet as he kissed her goodnight she longed for something more.
The car pulled up at the temple steps. She waited for him to walk around and get the door before stepping out. Like normal he pulled her into his arms to place a chaste kiss on her mouth. The strong arms were wrapped around her waist. It angered her that they felt wrong. Why should they? She didn’t want anyone else, so why not him? Her hands went to wrap around his neck pulling him closer. He responded by deepening the kiss. His tongue dipped inside her parted mouth trying to coax her to return it. Scolding herself she gave in. The feel of it was unwanted and she almost pushed him away.
Hiei growled as the man ran his fingers along the small of her back. Before he could get any lower the girl pulled away and smiled. What did she think she was doing behaving in such a manner? How many men did she have coming around to fornicate with? This was the only one he’d seen but he’d only been here a month. The girl was beautiful and young, if she had no problem fucking him while he was unconscious she’d have no qualms about spreading herself for a willing man.
Botan watched him drive away and felt horrible. What was wrong with her? She should have been enjoying that kiss. The feeling had made her think of a dirty dish rag. Groaning she spun on her heels to head to the temple. This wasn’t getting her anywhere. Maybe she should just end it now. She almost screamed when Hiei landed in front of her. “Dammit, don’t scare me like that.”
“Hn. I was merely checking to make sure everything was okay. I heard something and came to check on it. The last thing I was expecting was to see you making a fool of yourself. You are as foolish as any other human female. Do you think he wants anything from you besides a quick rut?” He saw the anger flash in her eyes but didn’t regret the words. That man had reeked of arousal. He was surprised the man hadn’t thrown her against the car and fucked her senseless. “If you must play the whore please do so away from my child. I won’t have her growing up thinking that is how a female should behave.”
“What I do is none of your concern. I do not do anything in front of Hina, I’ll have you know. But I will do as I please. I am entitled to have a life of my own. If that means finding a man then I will. Unlike you I actually prefer the company of the opposite sex.” She pushed past him hoping he’d leave her alone. She didn’t need him making her feel bad about wanting to be happy. After feeling the love for a child, she wanted a family of her own one day.
“Hn. I guess I am worried over nothing. The only way you can make a man fuck you is if you climb on him while he is unconscious. Is that how you get your kicks? Waiting until a man can’t turn you down before riding him?” He smiled as her shoulders tensed. Good let her feel bad about what she’d done. He didn’t like the idea of her using his body as he lay unable to participate. Didn’t matter of her reasons, he still had flashbacks of a time he couldn’t recall. He wanted to know what it had been like but refused to ask.
How dare he bring that up! She’d done that to spare his miserable little life. It had been horrible for her and painful. The only time she’d ever experienced being with a man and it hadn’t been fun. It had left her with nothing but pain and heartache. Did he really believed she enjoyed it? He had more than her considering he’d been the one to blow his load. The words stung that he found her so distasteful. Sure, she knew she’d never be desirable enough for him to want her but that didn’t mean every man found her ugly. “Fuck you, Hiei!”
“Been there, done that and I thank the Gods everyday that I don’t remember it.” The smile turned to a frown as she stormed off up the steps. Her shoulders fell as she ran up the last steps. He watched her go, guilt plagued him. He wasn’t sure why he said it but had felt the need to lash out. Seeing her with the other man had angered him. He shouldn’t care what she did. Giving up he leapt into a tree to finish his rounds before finding a tree in which to bed down for the night.
~~~~~~~~
“You okay?” Yukina finished up the dishes as Botan sat at the table. The girl had her head resting on the wood as if in a deep sleep. She knew the girl was awake by the rapid breathing. What was going on between those two. Since the girl’s date last week she’d been silent and depressed, so unlike Botan.
Botan lifted her head off the table and made a decision. Maybe Hiei had a right to be angry. She hadn’t given him an option that day. He hadn’t wanted a child but she’d made it for him. Instead of trying to wake him and see what he wished to do she’d took matters into her own hands. He seemed to love Hina but it meant his life was forever changed. He had to feel defiled knowing she’d had sex with him like that. Maybe she’d been looking at everything the wrong way. Would he accept her apology and explanation if she tried? She wouldn’t know unless she went to him. It couldn’t hurt to try. She cared about him, always had. She loved him and hadn’t wanted to lose him like that.
She told Yukina she was going outside, knowing he was out there with the girls. Yukina asked if she’d call them in for lunch. Nodding she opened the door and called their names. The three looked up as she stepped off the porch. To make sure he didn’t run, she made eye contact. And let him see that she was coming. Both girls ran past her happily, ready to eat. She was doing the right thing, wasn’t she? If he knew how she felt and why, maybe he wouldn’t hate her so much. She’d given him a beautiful child, something special. “Hiei, can we talk?”
“Why bother? I have nothing to say to you.” He wanted to toss her on the ground and taste those trembling lips. To see if she felt as good as the dreams he’d been having. To know what it would be like to experience her embrace. He envied his own child when he saw the girl pick her up and wrap those slender arms around the child. He was being foolish, it made him angry. She’d only fucked him to do her job and that had been to save his miserable life.
“Dammit, you will let me speak.” She stopped in front of him placing her hands on her hips. She’d fought all morning to get up the courage to speak to him. Now that she was here he’d listen if she had to tie him down. It didn’t matter if he didn’t like her, she cared about him. “I know you don’t like me and you have your reasons. I understand them and accept it. I know soon you will be going on about your life and will most likely take Hina with you. I don’t regret what I did. Sorry if that makes you angry. I was told you were going to die if it wasn’t done. You were laying there in pain and I wanted to make it stop. Even knowing you wouldn’t otherwise wish to touch me I did what I had to. It had nothing to do with what was right or wrong, or doing what others would expect of me. I couldn’t stand the thought of losing you, isn’t that enough? Despite what you think I did not enjoy it. I never wished my first time to be with an unconscious man that hates me. I hid her from you because of what you said. I didn’t want anything to happen to her. No matter what the circumstances of her birth she was a wonderful person and deserves to be love. I carried her for nine months and have cared for her for over five years. I didn’t do it out of pity or guilt, I did it because she was yours. You don’t have to like me or even give a shit about what I’m saying. I just came to apologize about the way everything happened. I care about you even though you are an asshole and are rude to me.” She paused in her speech and almost toppled over. The bastard was looking off into the distance, he wasn’t even paying attention to her. Here she was pouring her heart out and he was ignoring her once again. Well, she’d see about that. Taking a deep breath she threw her arms around his neck. His head turned in surprise as she leaned forward. His body stiffened as she placed her mouth firmly over his.
He felt the heat rush to his lower region at the soft pressure. The lips were sweet and smooth as they ghosted over his own. Just as she was about to pull away, his arms moved. They locked around her waist pulling her against his body. His mind raced as his body flared to life. She fit perfectly against him. Everything focused on the contact, his soul cried out for more. The lips parted allowing him entrance. His tongue shot forward seeking the inner warmth. It was welcomed as she opened wider, letting him taste every corner. He lost all coherent thought as she lifted her own muscle to brush across his own. The kiss was timid and shy but excited him to no end. She had no idea how much he wanted her. He snatched his mouth away to look up into her wide eyes. They were filled with a strong emotion and glazed over. This couldn’t be happening, she wasn’t going to use him to prove a point. His hands pushed her back and she stumbled back in shock. “Don’t come near me again. Why bother apologizing about taking advantage of me when you are going to try to do it again? If you know I can’t stand you then don’t go throwing yourself at me. I don’t plan on getting drugged or knocked out anytime soon, so don’t waste your time.”
Botan turned on her heels and ran as fast as she could. Tears stung as she cleared the many steps. The passing traffic went ignored. The only thing she wanted was to get away from it all. She’d been stupid to think he’d care about what she had to say. He didn’t care about her at all. What had she been wanting to accomplish by kissing him? Except to make him mad, she’d done nothing but prove that she was pathetic. Bad enough she admitted to caring about him but now he knew that she wanted him.
A car honked at her as she felt her legs wanting to give out. How long had she ran? A payphone was near a bench. Walking over she dialed a number and waited for Hiroshi to answer. The man agreed to come pick her up. She walked to take a seat and wait. She was fooling herself to think he’d ever want anything to do with her. Why couldn’t she be happy with what she had? As she pondered the question a car pulled up at the curb. The large man exited the vehicle to stand in front of her. Ironic the one man that wanted her was unlike the one she loved.
While Hiei was only four foot eleven, Hiroshi was well over six foot. Hiei’s body was nice and toned, every muscle sculptured perfectly, he was small but in excellent shape. Hiroshi had short brown hair that he kept trimmed with soft brown eyes. He was more than well built, his body was much like Kuwabara’s from working in construction for many years. In some ways he was like her Hiei but nothing about him was right. He just wasn’t the man she wanted, the man she’d never have.
She didn’t protest as he drove to his house. She just wanted to get away and not think about it. The man didn’t speak to her which was fine. He was the only one she had to call. His eyes narrowed as she wiped a stray tear from her face. Seeing the lights of his home she undid her seatbelt. Like normal he opened the door for her and helped her out the car.
Botan let him lead her into the house without thinking on it. Only one light was lit so she could see. Taking off her shoes they were placed by the doors. His home was rather nice for a single male. Everything was neatly placed and clean. As she roamed around the living room he walked into the kitchen. Her mind didn’t want to think about what had just taken place. Dusk was falling outside as she looked out the sliding glass doors. The view was beautiful, the moon full and bright. Her heart twitched, a moon made for lovers.
A glass of wine was placed in her hand. It was accepted but she didn’t think she could swallow it. The setting was perfect but she couldn’t feel herself getting into it. His arms wrapped around her waist and pulled her against his hard chest. As much as she wished she could love him she couldn’t. Her heart had been lost years ago. “I think I should go home.”
“Don’t leave yet,” He took the glass out of her hand. Seeing her stiffen he placed a hand under her chin. He brought her lips up to meet his. He’d waited so long to get her alone, in order to get somewhere. She’d called him for a reason. Why else would she want him to come pick her up? She wanted him as much as he wanted her. Tonight would be the night he’d claim her.
Botan tasted the strong lingering bitterness of alcohol. Had he been drinking when she’d called him. Coming here was a mistake obviously. She didn’t want some man trying to seduce her, she needed someone to hold her as she had a long overdue pity party. His hand ran under the edge of her shirt. Her hand pushed against his chest as it cupped her left breast. The feeling was wrong and she wanted it to stop. This wasn’t what she wanted. “Stop, I can’t.”
“Why not? We’ve been dating for a year. It’s about time you forgot about him, he doesn’t love you the way I do.” He latched onto her mouth feeling her stiffen. She didn’t resist as he forced his tongue between her parted lips. His fingers squeezed her nipple causing her to jerk.
Botan almost screamed at the harsh treatment. A hand was going for the strings holding her sweats up. She hadn’t bothered dressing up just to go outside to talk to Hiei. The string came undone and he shoved his hand down the front of the pants. As soon as he cupped her center she began to panic. She couldn’t allow this to happen. He might be right and Hiei would never love her but she couldn’t see herself sleeping with anyone else. Her hands pushed at the heavy chest but he didn’t release her. The rough finger was forcing itself beneath her panty line. Anger filled her as he tried to push it into her dry passage. She brought her hand down across his face, “I said stop.”
The side of her face exploded as he backhanded her. She stumbled back but she had his attention now. Anger grazed his features as they both rubbed their tender cheeks. She couldn’t believe he’d hit her like that. Rough hands grabbed her around the waist, he was trying to pick her up. Her struggles intensified as her feet left the floor. He ignored the fists that pounded on his chest as he tried to carry her towards the bedroom. Taking careful aim she brought the balled up hand across his nose. As he released her she brought her knee up. The horrid sound almost made her smile as he grunted in pain.
Blood flowed freely down his chin as he drew his fist back. Botan didn’t have time to gloat as it crashed into her jaw. She felt it snap painfully as she crashed into the kitchen table. She toppled over the wood, it cracked from her weight. Dishes fell to the floor as weak knees tried to support her trembling form. The corner of her mouth was forcing blood to course down her chin. Wiping it on the back of her hand, she grabbed the first dish she could find. He was getting to his feet when the first cracked across his scalp. She swore at him as he swatted the next away. It crashed against the far wall. Her eyes widened when he charged her, “Shit.”
The broad shoulder caught her in the stomach and he took her down. The hard tile slammed into her back, her head banged against the floor. Pain washed over her as she fought to breath. Something had cracked as he slammed into her with all his weight. The bastard wasn’t a youkai but was proving to be stronger than she was. His hands worked on pulling the pants down as she moaned. Her hand went to the back of her head that wouldn’t stop throbbing. Hot sticky fluid coated her fingers as his hands tore at the seams of her panties. Realizing just what he was doing she slapped at the offending hands. “Get off me!”
The horrible scent of beer filled her nostrils as he hovered over her. Her hands were grabbed to be pinned over her head. She screamed as he tried to kiss her, the smell making her stomach pitch. No wonder the kick to his groin hadn’t stunned him, the fucker hadn’t even felt it. She tried to kick with her legs but his knees pushed them apart. His free hand was undoing his zipper. The image of his face blurred and began to spin as his tip was placed against her entrance. “Don’t, please don’t.”
The plea went ignored and she began to sob. With a quick thrust, scorching heat filled her center. The pain was too intense for her to remain still. She thrashed on the floor, her hips moving trying to dislodge him. The free hand grabbed a handful of bangs. The echo of cracking bones echoed in her eardrums as he slammed her head into the already bloodstained floor. She gasped past the pain, not wanting to pass out. The hand released her tender scalp to grab her leg. It lifted her leg up, bending the knee. The next thrust made her cry, overriding the pain in her head. “HIEI!”
“Bitch, you’ll be forgetting about him soon enough.” She tried not to listen to the boast. His words made her want to give up as he pushed deeper into her sore body. His grunts of pleasure seemed to flow with the throbbing in her head. The feel of him tearing her soon became numb as she closed her eyes. Every bone in her body felt busted along with every nerve. The expanse of her middle was ablaze from his thrusts. There didn’t seem to be an end to it. He began sweating as he exerted himself. She wasn’t sure how long he’d been going at it but she began to feel cold.
She wasn’t sure how much more she could take before she succumbed to the darkness. Just as she was ready to give in he groaned and his head fell upon her chest. Seconds past but he didn’t move. His member was still hard and buried inside her body. Her hands went to his shoulders to push. When he didn’t move, she gave a firm push and he rolled over. She thanked whomever was watching over her as he grumbled but didn’t wake up. She winced as the thick member withdrew but was also relieved. Dizziness filled her as she crawled to get her pants. Blood was covering her thighs but she didn’t want to take the time to clean it. Pulling the cotton pants on she managed to stumble to her feet.
As she pulled the door open, she began to cry. Unsure of where to go, she didn’t want to head home. He’d be there and she didn’t want to face him; not now. Pain twisted in her sides to make the angry throbbing between her legs to react. Looking down the street she began to run. Shizuru didn’t leave that far, only two streets down. The going was slow and painful but the familiar door greeted her like a lost friend. Seeing the woman’s car in the driveway made her almost cry in happiness. Her fists began to bang on the door, the sound was weak but she felt her knees finally give out.
Her back slid across the door as her fist hit the wood one last time. She didn’t have the strength to call out. Would the woman even hear it? Or would she die on the Kuwabara doorstep? It would suck if it happened, they’d freak finding her corpse meeting them in the morning. Taking a deep breath she placed her head against the door. “Hiei.”
~~~~~~~
Shizuru sat up in bed and listened but heard nothing. Her husband continued to snore but uneasiness filled her. It was only a little past nine but she had the habit of going to bed early. Getting up she could hear Kuzuma’s radio blaring. How many times did she have to tell him to keep it down. As she entered the living room, fear coursed down her spine. What sounded like a whimper came from the door. Had someone been knocking? Walking over she looked out the peephole but didn’t see anything. The feeling still wouldn’t go away so she cracked the door leaving the chain on. As the door opened a bloody hand slid into the tiny opening, “Kuzuma!”
Kuwabara felt his sister’s panic and came running out of the bedroom in only his boxers. Shizuru had the door open cradling something. Long blue hair was covered in blood. Dread filled him recognizing the face his sister was stroking. “Botan?”
“Don’t just stand there stupid. Call Kurama, we have to do something.” Shizuru pulled the girl against her but she was out of it. Tears filled her eyes as her hand reached back to feel the blood oozing from the skull. Several bone fragments were protruding in the mass of hair. Her husband stumbled into the room to switch on the light. His gasp mirrored her own seeing the grey sweats stained with blood. “Hurry up dammit, tell him to get his ass here now. I don’t care how he does it.”
“He’s coming.” Kuwabara hung up the phone and quickly dialed Urameshi’s number. His eyes glanced over to the girl. He didn’t miss the blood already covering his sister’s nightgown. Where had she been to get hurt that bad? As his friend picked up the phone he felt his own panic as Shizuru began crying.
Shizuru almost lost it when the girl seemed to stop breathing. Her husband placed a hand on her shoulder. His eyes were filled with worry as she held the girl. He stated that they needed to stop whatever bleeding they could before help arrived. “How the hell are we going to stop her skull from bleeding?”
Kuwabara pried the girl out of his sister’s arms. She weighed almost nothing as she carried her to his bed. Placing her down he made sure to turn her head to the side. His brother in law came in carrying several towels. He backed up to allow Shizuru to wrap a towel around Botan’s head. Just as she began to pull off the girl’s pants, Kurama came into the house. “Thank the Gods, she’s looks like hell. Do something man, I had Yusuke call Genkai’s but who the hell knows how long that will take.”
“We need to see to her head and,” Shizuru didn’t want to say it. It was almost too painful to think about. Yet, there was no denying the stain she was looking at. She saw Kurama nod as his eyes went to the spot in question. “You two get out now.”
Kurama helped Shizuru undress her quickly without causing her much pain. His examined each wound carefully. The bleeding had ceased from the forced intercourse. His hands went to work on examining the fractured skull. It was busted in several places and needed to be repaired. It was no longer flowing but fresh blood coated his hand. He didn’t think there was much he could do, they’d have to wait on Genkai to get there. Shizuru helped him wrap it up hoping to keep it from bleeding further.
Kuwabara was surprised to see Genkai arrive the same time as Yusuke considering she lived twice the distance away. The Shrimp was right behind the elderly woman as the three walked into the living room. Neither man looked happy at being called over. “Sorry, I just needed to get Genkai. Botan showed up at the door busted up.”
“Where is she, we didn’t ask you to apologize.” Genkai snapped at him. She walked past his as Shizuru walked out to wave her into a room. She ordered the rest to remain out while she saw for herself. Seeing Kurama trying to contain his fury was enough for her to know how bad it was. The girl was pale upon the large bed. “How bad is it?”
“Well so far, her skull is fractured in several places. I’m guessing some broken ribs, perhaps a punctured lung. Most of the bleeding came from vaginal tearing though. It’s pretty bad, you’ll have to heal her. Shizuru and I can do what we can on cleaning her up.” Kurama took the damp cloth that was being offered as the old woman went to work. “She’ll be weak for a few days from blood loss I’m afraid.”
Yusuke felt Hiei tense as the door opened and Genkai stepped out. They glanced in and he wished he hadn’t. Several bloody towels were tossed on the floor. Kurama was standing on the side of the bed holding the girl’s head. A small tub of water was placed on the floor as Shizuru poured water in the thick blue tresses. He could see the water as it turned almost black from the blood. The rest of her body was covered in a blanket. “Fuck, what happened to her Genkai?”
“You’ll have to ask her to know for sure but my guess would be she was beaten and raped. She’ll survive but will need time to heal.” Genkai hoped there wouldn’t be any permanent damage from the attack. Being raped was a hard thing to deal with. Whomever had done it had done it without an ounce of care or remorse. The girl had been severely torn.
Kurama glanced up when Hiei walked in, “Hiei?” There was no emotion on the man’s face as he came to stand beside him. If he didn’t know the man well he’d think the sight didn’t effect him. The man’s aura was barely contained as he placed a hand on the girl’s pale cheek. He almost protested as Hiei opened up his jagan. Normally, he would protest at the use but he knew why. Within seconds the man would know who’d done it and exactly what had happened.
Yusuke stepped into the room and watched Hiei’s shoulder stiffen. The girl whimpered as the memories were pulled from her mind. The small man frowned before pulling his hand away. “I’m going with you. Kurama can stay here and tend to her.”
“Think before you come detective. There are laws against killing a human.” Hiei gave one last look towards her and pushed the guilt aside. He’d feel guilty later, after he’d taken care of the man responsible. The bastard would pay for what he’d done. He didn’t care if the man had been intoxicated. Before morning came he’d find himself in more pain than he’d put Botan through.
“Wait before you leave.” Genkai stepped forward putting her hand up. As much as she wanted the man to be punished, it would hurt Botan more if they were both hurt for her sake. “How do you think she’ll feel if a warrant is put out on you two because of her? I’m not suggesting you do nothing. I just want to remind you that the barrier is gone. It’s a shame humans have been known to accidently cross over and get lost.”
Hiei smirked, “Yes, a shame isn’t it.”
~~~~~~~
Botan steered the oar to the right searching for the blasted soul. Just her luck, of all the souls she’d been sent to collect hers would vanish. Placing a hand over her eyes, she scanned the area. Many people roamed the area but no loose soul. She had already left his bedside, so it wasn’t there. This was the second one this week. Koenma was going to kill her if she kept losing her jobs. He hadn’t wanted her to come back to work this soon.
After recovering from her ordeal, she’d left Genkai’s. It meant saying goodbye to Hina but it was for the best. Four months had passed since she’d returned to work but she visited the girl once a week. Hiei hadn’t been there that she knew. The fire apparition was leaving the child with Yukina for now and visited just as she did but more regularly. She wasn’t fragile or delicate, she’d pulled through it all. No one would tell her what had become of the man that had attacked her. When she asked Yusuke one day all he said was she’d sleep better if she didn’t know. What had those two done?
Her feelings hadn’t changed but she had more resolve. She’d done what she could back then. She’d saved his life by carrying his child. He could be upset and hate her until the end of time but she’d do it again if given the chance. He meant more to her than he’d ever know. So did Hina, she loved the child. Being away from the little girl was painful but had to be done.
“Bingo!” She sent the oar down when she spotted the soul floating not far from her current position. Why had he come all the way out here? The man had been trapped under a fallen building and had taken several days to finally pass away. A horrible way to pass on. As she got closer uncertainty filled her. The man turned on her and she braked to a halt. His eyes weren’t right, they were burning a bright red. He’d been a human, this wasn’t right.
“Woah,” She lifted herself into the air as he ran for her. Long claws extended out of deformed hands. What the hell? It was definitely her soul she’d been sent to retrieve. The departed man was growling fiercely at her, “Well, that’s not a jolly thing to do.”
Grabbing her intercom she buzzed Koenma. When his face popped on the screen he didn’t look to pleased. “Koenma sir, Botan here. I’m having a bit of a problem. I’ve found Mr. Dakali but he’s a tad rabid I’m afraid. I don’t know how to get him. He tried to attack me.”
“Yes, you aren’t the only girl having that problem. Natsumi and Aiko just called, their souls are in the same state. Keep your distance but watch him. Don’t let him get to you Botan, that is an order. I’ll get someone on the case right away. Do what you can till then, I’ve called all the other girls in. Koenma, out.”
“Oh poopie, this can’t be good. Now where did he go?” She screamed and had to quickly dodge backwards. The man was giving chase. Follow him indeed, he was coming at her in a blind rage. Koenma better hurry and do something before she got ripped to shreds. Why was she the one to try and handle it until someone else came? Blasted toddler was going to get her killed. She couldn’t take the man into Reikai in his current state. Who knew what was wrong with him, he might be carrying an infliction. “Great, now what am I supposed to do?”
Koenma cleared his throat and stood before the small group. He ignored the small girl that was blushing up at him. Tiny hands were playing with the seams of his pants. The child was cute but now wasn’t the time to play or get acquainted. The one Botan had carried was sleeping peacefully on her father’s chest. It almost knocked him over to see the man being so attentive to another living being. Maybe Botan had saw something in him that he couldn’t. The man wasn’t all that bad but he’d wouldn’t have a child for him. “Now, I’ve gotten reports of souls running loose. A few of my girls have gone after the departed souls after death. Just this morning the souls have become demented and gone on a rampage. Most humans don’t know what is happening. Will most likely blame it on ghosts or natural causes. There are five that we know of, four which are doing no more than wreaking havoc. I’m afraid the fifth is another story, he is crazed.” He paused as his communicator went off. “Koenma here.”
“Koenma sir, I don’t want to be a bother but things aren’t looking to good. Mr. Dakali just attacked a human and I’m afraid I have horrible news. The human female has become infected also on a massive level. The woman is attacking an innocent passer-by as we speak. What do you want me to do?” Botan’s worried face appeared.
“Don’t engage them, I don’t need you getting infected as well. I’m forming the team as we speak. Move your ass to safety until they get there.” Koenma snapped the compact shut. This was an unexpected turn of events. “As you heard things have just gotten serious. I need you to investigate this matter for me. My father has been training a new detective but I’m afraid he’s not up to par yet. I’m going to ask you guys to handle this for me. The infection will spread like a bad plague if it’s not contained.”
Botan sighed and moved aside from the man. He was still being piss poor company. Why was she having to trail him? He snarled and found another unaware victim. “Hey you stop that already, they can’t even see you.”
Instead of listening it tore into the teenage boys without mercy. There was no actually wounds to appear but the damage was done. Botan could see the infection appear like a green mist cloaking the men. It would have to feel like being attacked by a bad dream before they went ballistic as well. A shiver went down her spine suddenly. The feeling of being watched made her glance up. Standing on a building to her left, someone was watching the carnage as well. The long white hair was pulled back into a bow but it was still wild and untamed. She couldn’t make out the face but it was definitely male. The large torso stood there unmoving except for a hand. Her eyes barely made out the transparent smoke he was emitting. The bastard was doing it.
Fumbling with the compact she quickly called him back. The man yelled at her when he answered, “Don’t yell at me sir. I don’t care if you are briefing them. I’ve found the source of the problem. Oops, I think he spotted me. I’ve got to go sir, this can’t be good.” She dodged the blast in time. The edge of her oar was hit but she got control before going down. That was too close. Glancing back the man was following her. His jumps were perfectly timed, staying close enough not to allow her out of sight. She wasn’t going to be able to escape.
She pulled to a halt over a building and waited for him. Either she would wait for him to stop playing or for the team to get here. Koenma would most likely get Yusuke or Kurama to come at such short notice. A bird flew overhead announcing her visitor. “Stop playing around, I know you’re there.”
“Very perceptive of you girl. I’m not surprised to find a ferry girl running around. You should tell Koenma he’s slacking in the help department. The others ran away at the first sign of trouble, pity. Mind telling me your name?” His face was well developed and masculine, the jaw square. His lips were rather large and full for a male but went with the features. Grey eyes the color of dank fog watched her curiously.
“That’s none of your business. What do you think you are doing infecting people? Are you trying to get me fired?” A slim finger pointed in his direction. She didn’t like the smile on his face. As if he found the situation funny. Well she didn’t, she was the one being forced to sit here and deal with it.
“Silly girl, if you’d have paid attention you’d know better. I merely sedated those that had been infected. I am not the cause. I was passing by and saw what was happening.”
“Passing by my merry white ass, you shot at me. Don’t try to play innocent with me. Beside you look evil and I don’t trust you. I think you are up to something. Besides making sure I have a really bad day.” Botan screamed at him, not caring if he could tear her head off easily. The man was now laughing at her, the sound echoing around them. What was so funny? As soon as Yusuke got here, he wouldn’t be laughing. The bastard was looking at her like she’d grown another head. “Stop laughing at me jerk. Fine, I’m leaving.”
“Don’t go yet, you haven’t told me your name.” He appeared behind her suddenly, a hand placed on her shoulder. Where had Koenma gotten such entertaining girl from. From what he remembered they were all dull and boring. Fear made her tremble under his touch. “Sorry, I’m not going to hurt you. I was serious, I was merely passing by and saw the disturbance. Well, I was searching for something and it brought me in this direction. That blast was only a warning, I didn’t know who you were. It wasn’t until you moved and I spotted the oar that I knew that you were with the Reikai.”
“Sure, I say you were trying to hit me and your aim just sucks.” Botan replied sarcastically. Instead of getting offended the man laughed. Did bad guys laugh like that? The sound was actually nice and heart warming.
“Forgive me, my name is Soku. I have come on the behalf of my people. One of our priceless artifacts were stolen recently and I tracked it to the Ningenkai.” He landed in front of the girl with a hand stretched out in greeting. Her weary amethyst eyes roamed over the palm like it would a vile creature. “I just want to shake your hand.”
“Oh well, I’m Botan, pilot of the River Styx and personal assistant to Prince Koenma.” She placed her hand in his. The grasp was firm but gentle as he clasped her tiny palm. The large hand was extremely soft to be on a warrior. “Let me guess this artifact can infect souls somehow and drive them to do things they normally wouldn’t do.”
“Something like that but as you see it is here. Tell me, is there a way I can contact Koenma? Would be nice to speak to Binkster again.”
She almost fell over at the nickname. Koenma would surely have a fit at being called something so horrid. “Well, actually I lost my communicator when you took a cheap shot at me. I’m afraid we’ll have to wait for them to get here. Hopefully they would have come to save me first.”
“Save you? You were never in any danger from me. Unless you suddenly start drooling at the mouth and try to attack me. Well, let me rephrase that; when you tried to do me bodily harm. How is that?” He snickered as her cheeks flamed red. “Too much?”
“You pervert. You are the last person I’d want to drool over much less attack. Too much? How about if I knock some sense into you, you nasty cretin.” She stammered at the image. Well, she never! He might be nice looking but she wasn’t that type of girl. Besides if she was going to drool over a man it wasn’t him. Blast him for even suggesting such a thing. She yelped out of surprise when he grabbed her hands, cupping them in his.
“Ah but my little angel, I’m fragile. I’ll let you abuse me as long as you promise to be gentle. Could the feared Grim Reaper be tender towards a wounded soul?” He brought the soft skin of her knuckles up to his mouth to place a chaste kiss. The girl was simply charming, was she available? He groaned as he released her. The hands fell back in her lap as he dodged the blade. The toddler never had good timing. He smirked as the blade started making hasty swings in his direction. The little shit was pushing his luck.
Botan was stunned when the man leapt back and began moving to fast for her to keep track of him. Kurama landed next to her. A concerned palm landed on her shoulder. His eyes were focused on the blurred motion not far from them.
“Are you okay?” Koenma arrived on the back of Yusuke. The sight was almost funny but she refrained from laughing. Her boss walked over to her and eyed the dispute. Yusuke went to her other side and threw his hands back and yawned. Koenma frowned, they didn’t have time for this. “Hiei, stop. We will need his help.”
“You got to be kidding me.” Hiei froze in place but kept the weapon leveled at the man. He was going to kill the bastard. Narrowing his eyes, he disliked the man already. What the hell did he think he was doing touching the girl like that? She may not be his but she didn’t need some idiot fawning all over her. If he so much as looked at her wrong, the man was going to find his dick personally handed to him.
“I am not.” Koenma bowed to the large man. Just as he’d expected when Botan had reported back the second time. Things were indeed bad if they’d sent their personal protector to retrieve the artifact. The man was annoying but would be a great asset in locating the gem. “It has been a long time Soku.”
“Too long, old friend. When did you hit puberty?” Soku laughed at the man’s expense. He’d grown taller in the last fifty years. Too many years had passed since he’d enjoyed a good debate with the ruler of the Reikai. He still couldn’t remember seeing the charming girl.
“When are you?” Koenma nodded towards his team, letting them know it was okay to stand down. He didn’t feel like putting up with the man but he would be their only chance of finding the small gem that was causing the problem. He wouldn’t allow the city to become infested with crazed people. Not to mention whomever possessed the artifact controlled the masses.
“Never, why should I bother? I see you finally found yourself a decent team. Great, they will be needed I’m afraid. I’ve been tracking him for some time. He knows I am here. When we first discovered it missing, we went to him to ask for advice only to find him gone as well. I told you he wouldn’t let it rest, you should have killed him when you had the chance.”
“So sue me, I tried to be fair. How was I to know he’d be stupid and plot revenge. I can only assume that ignorance runs in your family.” Koenma found himself suddenly in a bear hug. “Put me down you big oaf. You aren’t my type.”
“If you say so Binkster. I say there is a reason you are always sucking on that thing. Just do me a favor and give the girl some pointers, that way I won’t be disappointed later.” He winked at the bright red girl and released the demi-god. This was going to be fun if anything.
“Why you jerk. I don’t need pointers, thank you. You are a disgusting pig and I thought Chuu was bad.” Botan crossed her arms in front of her chest. Like he’d have a chance with her. The man was quickly getting on her shit list. Just because she’d never performed the act on a man didn’t mean anything. He shouldn’t even hint at such a thing.
“As amusing as this conversation is, I’d like to know what is going on.” Kurama stepped forward before everything went to hell. The two might find the reunion amusing but some of them did not. It might not bother Yusuke to hear the guy suggest that he’d be having Botan down on her knees later but he wouldn’t feel the same if it were Keiko. Hiei was more than ready to strike the man down, no matter his relationship to the Prince. He was the only one that knew the koorime well enough to understand him. The man was neck deep in denial. While his heart might deny any attachment, his instincts wouldn’t. All the man had been doing was making a pass at the ferry girl. Which is why he nor Yusuke had attacked. Only took one glance to see the girl wasn’t in any danger. Yet, it had been Hiei to attack.
“Soku is from a small clan. I believe I showed you the outlay of the Makai. The deeper you went the more powerful the youkai. Well, his clan actually dwells on one of the lower levels. Normally they are a peaceful group. Very small but docile in nature. My father is friends with the leader. Soku here is there guardian and protector. When there is a disturbance or problem he handles it. They have in their possession two deadly artifacts. Two gems, one that can heal even the deadliest of diseases. The other one born of the opposite, it can kill with just one use by destroying the soul. If the one wielding it is skilled enough it can also control souls. I assuming the one that took it was his brother, Meru.”
“Why would his brother take it? I thought you just said they were peaceful.” Yusuke asked. If this thing could shatter souls then why would the man bring it here instead of staying in the Makai? The better question is why the hell was Hiei growling? The man must have an itch in his throat.
“That might be my fault yet again. Meru was once the protector instead of Soku. Being as he had a more serious personality, they assumed he was best for the job. See the gems can only be used by one of that bloodline. So, there isn’t much threat of them being taken. Around fifty years ago someone stole them and things went bad. A man with just the tiniest amount of blood began building an army. Things went bad and Meru was almost killed. If not for Soku here showing up at the last minute and saving his life. Because of the terrible destruction caused and his failure to bring the gems back, he was demoted. He blamed it on me you see. My father’s team were the ones to retrieve it with my help. I guess he never got over the failure.”
“So we are to get it back. What the hell are we waiting for?” Yusuke shifted his feet, not liking the tension in the air. What weren’t they telling him? The two men continued to gaze at each other. Something was being omitted, “Okay, spill it.”
“He’s not going to be an easy opponent. He is stronger than Soku here. The man just won’t hand it over. The reason he went after the dead first was to let me know he was here. The sadistic bastard will have it out for me. Which is why he wanted to let the girls to find them first. His only ability isn’t the one to use the gems. He’s can create territories, alternate dimensions. His power is only so strong that the victim is only trapped for several hours. The danger lies in the world he can create. He searches his opponent to discover their one weakness or their fear. Most die before getting out. Saves him the trouble of fighting them himself.”
“Don’t lie Binkster, let’s be honest. He hates you with a passion and wants to tear you apart. I say we split into groups of two. Search for any clues to where he could be hiding, then inform the others when we know something. I’ll take the girl with me, I’ll keep her safe.”
“Like hell you will.” Hiei moved to stand between the two. If Koenma agreed to it then he’d gut him as well. The man didn’t have searching on his mind.
“I will go with you Soku. Kurama and Yusuke will go together and Hiei will tend to Botan. We will keep in constant contact with each other. If you spot him then don’t play the hero. It will take teamwork to take him down. Be on guard, I don’t want any casualties.” Koenma didn’t care if the man didn’t like the set up. There was no way he was sending him with Botan. The man was a lech on a good day. Hiei would likely try to kill him before agreeing to it.
Botan wanted to protest but was left alone with him. This wasn’t going well at all. She hadn’t wanted to team up with him. Why not Yusuke or Kurama, it was better than the one guy. Instead of having someone constantly hitting on her, she was going to be ignored. At least this way she wouldn’t get a headache. “I’ll go this way, if you wanna head down that street.”
“Don’t be stupid, we will stick together. I don’t have time to come rescue you if you get into trouble.” Hiei landed beside her and grabbed the oar. He wasn’t about to let her go off and get into trouble. She was a magnet for it. “You will stay with me.”
“Fine but you don’t have to be a jerk about. You could try asking nicely. I swear, all men are the same.” Why did they have to leave her with him? Hiei didn’t need her help. They’d be better off if she headed back to the Reikai until the mission was over. If the koorime couldn’t handle whatever popped up what the hell could she possibly do but get in the way. “Why don’t I just head back to the Reikai. That way I won’t be in your way.”
“Hn, that’s probably the dumbest thing you’ve ever said. You heard Koenma say the man was targeting his employees. What makes you think you will make it to the Reikai alive? Like I said I don’t have time to rescue you. If I have to babysit you then you will be silent and behave.”
“Listen here, I am not a child. I’ll take my chances on going back. Better than staying here listening to your crap. I would have preferred going off with the loudmouth. At least I wouldn’t have to worry about him pushing me off the nearest building.” Her nose went in the air as he bristled. She didn’t need to have him protect her. Not like he really wanted to. “I’m leaving and that’s final.”
“My my, I came all this way to say hello to my brother. Sad, I’ve come too late only to find a silly girl bickering with a child. Seems I’ve wasted my time.” The man landed on the edge of the building. He resembled Soku greatly except for his body was leaner as if starved. A twisted smile formed as he looked over at the pair. “Girl you are boring, so set in your mind. Now, you boy; you are an enigma.”
Hiei pushed the girl roughly behind him, she swore at him. A crude black cape that looked moth eaten was wrapped around the scrawny man. He was just as rough looking as his annoying brother. While the one with Koenma had a cheerful personality, nothing but hate and despair oozed from the one ten feet away. So this was the one causing the trouble. Well, he’d finish him off quickly before the others came back. “Hn, fool. Don’t think to figure me out, you will only hurt yourself.”
“Really? Even with that fake jagan you cannot hide from me. I see it all there boy. What is it you are trying to hide? What bothers you more; the pain from your abandonment or the fear of acceptance? That place holds many emotional ties to your soul. Let’s see how well you do when faced with your fears.”
Botan screamed as a large blue aura surrounded the hybrid. She watched in horror as he suddenly disappeared. His image shifted before her very eyes. Where was it taking him? Before thinking she jumped in after him. Every pore felt sharp pain as she entered the mist. “Hiei?” Air rushed past her as she fell. The tiny form of Hiei came up fast before she slammed into his back. The impact sent them both to the ground. The cold entered her skin the moment she rolled off him.
“Dammit woman, are you trying to crush me?” Hiei got to his feet getting off the frozen ground. He could no longer sense the man or anything else. Leaving the girl there muttering he quickly ran past the houses. Within seconds he was at the edge of the island. He stopped at the edge and looked down, nothingness greeted him. Koenma had said the man could throw his opponent in an alternate dimension of his own creation. He’d been stupid to think the man wouldn’t pull such a cheap trick on him and so soon. There was nothing but a light purple sky surrounding them. The only thing that he could sense moving was him and the girl. Which meant he was stuck here for a few hours or at least until Kurama killed that bastard.
Botan shivered as she looked around. Where the hell had Hiei ran off to? Looking around she recognized the place immediately, they were on the Glacier Island. Where were all the people and why did the sky look that way? She didn’t remember it being this cold either. Something blurred past her sight and she sighed in relief. Maybe Hiei was trying to figure something out. Her teeth were beginning to chatter as the snow swirled around her. Giving in she went to the nearest home. As expected there was no one inside, only emptiness. She had to get warm before she became a popsicle. Hiei might not be bothered by the cold but she was.
There was a single bed in the small place. It took some force to get the door shut with the strong wind. He could go roam if he wished. Shivering she grabbed the blanket and placed it around her shoulders. She’d heard Koenma, they were stuck here alone. Unless one of Hiei’s fears was to be chased by ice giants. Somehow she doubted it. The man had been abandoned as a child, he didn’t like being alone. He could tell himself he preferred it but it was a lie. It was just something he was use to it. She was use to bleeding every month but it didn’t mean she liked it. It was something one had to accept in order to survive. The man meant to torment him by forcing him to remain at a place he hated. No means of escaping the floating isle. Well, he could try and leave. She was going to crawl up in a corner and wait.
Hiei kicked the table in the empty house. They were truly alone in this hell hole. Why the fuck had the stupid bitch jumped in after him? Now no one knew what happened to them. It was either wait it out or jump and hope for the best. This might a different dimension but the same rules applied. If he got hurt here it was real, same if he died. Fat chance of that considering he was alone. Well, not entirely alone but he was in no danger of dying. The wind picked up as he walked outside.
His breath caught seeing the large tower to his left. That was where he’d been kept prisoner. His feet seemed to have a mind of their own. The door opened without having to use any force. It wasn’t the real thing but he felt anxiety as he walked over. Did the man mean to force him to kill the girl? Had the man sensed his remaining anger over what had happened years ago? Was he still upset over the girl doing something so intimate while he was out of it?
His jagan flared to life as the emotions surged to the surface. An image flashed in his mind and his fists clenched. He recognized Rui from his first visit. The woman was speaking to Botan explaining that he was about to die. He wanted to tell the girl to allow him to die but couldn’t speak. He watched in horror as Rui left and the remaining female stood there for several minutes before moving. Shaking fingers removed her undergarment and she crawled near him. His name passed her lips, with drooping shoulders she went to undo the twin belts that kept his pants up. Anger filled him as she yanked them down. Her head was tilted down as her hand wrapped around his erect member. Without fail she placed herself over him. He didn’t want to see this, he didn’t want to watch her fuck him.
He screamed her name as placed his shaft under her. He couldn’t see anything with her kimono being in the way. His eyes went to his own self, disbelief filled him as he finally moved. Hands wrapped around the girl’s waist as he thrust his hips up. Her cry of pain echoed the moan coming from his passive mouth. Hiei watched in disbelieve as the girl held on as he moved under her. It was over in seconds then his former self seemed to have fallen asleep. The ferry girl climbed off him, wiping away the tears that had fallen. She tore a piece the pink kimono and wiped him off. He spotted the smear of blood on his now flaccid member. The girl didn’t stop working until he was dressed again. She called Yusuke on the communicator and told them to hurry. Blue hair hid her face as she leaned over to place his head in her lap. Gentle fingers brushed along his forehead, “Please, don’t die. I don’t want to lose you.”
~~~~~~~~
Botan was sure her toes had fallen off. Where the hell had Hiei gone? She wasn’t sure how long she’d been sitting her. She had wood stacked into the fire pit but she didn’t have anything to light it with. The wood had come from breaking up the table and a chair. It wouldn’t do any good if she couldn’t get it lit. The thought of going back outside filled her with dread. The wind howled, letting her know it waited. If she went out it would most likely toss her off the island. Was that rain also hitting the window pane? Where the hell was Hiei?
As the minutes passed worry filled her. Who knew what the man was doing out there? Confronting his ghosts? Without the use of her toes she padded across the floor. The door was yanked out of her hands as she opened it. It slammed against the outer wall. She couldn’t see shit in front of her either. Taking a step out she placed a hand in front of her face. The weather was getting worse by the second. Rain and snow pelted from all directions. Panic filled her as several more minutes passed but she saw nothing. A gust of wind came yanking the blanket off her shoulders. It flapped as it soared into the sky and away. “Hiei?”
Her back hit the building as rain and snow pelted down. What kind of weather was this? How could that bastard create a storm like this? The wind was fierce enough to cause the hinges to pop. They creaked as the door slammed. She tried to move as the door was pulled from the wall. Turning her body, it collided with her back. It tumbled over her fallen body, to slide down the empty street. “Owe.”
Arms wrapped around her waist pulling her off the ground. Groaning the person carried her to the next house. It was even smaller than the first. The door shut behind them but she couldn’t move. She felt frozen as he started to yell at her. Not her fault he’d been out there enjoying the weather.
Hiei swore seeing her lips now matched the color of her hair. She was soaking wet and close to freezing. He knew something was wrong when he went to cut the soaked material off she just stood there. The prudish female would have yelled at him any other time. The blue lips trembled as her teeth chattered. First he had to get her out of the wet clothes and dry. Then he’d start a fire. What had she been thinking walking outside in the storm?
Botan barely registered it when the clothes were taken from her. Something harsh was running over her frozen skin. When he had her dry, he found a blanket stashed under the bed. The bed was only a small single mattress. She should have stayed in the other house. He carried her over to it and went to work on getting a fire started.
Hiei ignored the chill seeping into his own body. He’d see to getting the place warm before tending to his own needs. He found a counter on which one would could. With a few swipes the wood toppled to the floor. It should be enough to last them until this was over. As the fire blazed, heat filled the small room. He placed his cloak over a chair. Wanting it to dry soon. He heard her gasp as he began to take off his own drenched clothing. “Hn, don’t get any ideas. We both need to get warm and there is only one blanket. I doubt you want me climbing in there with you wearing wet clothes.”
Botan opened her eyes as he climbed on the bed with her. It was too small for both of them. She had to get on her side in order for him to get on. It brought his body incredibly close to hers, she didn’t want to think about it. Bad enough he’d stripped without any care. Even drenched he had a stunning body. “Just don’t hog the covers.”
“Hn, whatever girl. Perhaps you should stop moving, there isn’t much room. I doubt you want me touching you again.” He could feel the cold lingering over her skin. It was enough to send a chill down his spine. Reaching out he grasped her waist and moved closer. He found himself pressing up against her, his heat reaching out. “Hold still, I’m trying to warm you up some.”
She didn’t want to panic, this was Hiei. He was the last person she had to worry about making a move on her. Yusuke would be more likely to want to fuck her than the koorime. The heat he was radiating helped take the chill from her bones. The room was already heating up as they laid without speaking. She wasn’t sure what she’d say anyways. Sorry, for being a pain once more.
He felt her relax against him. Her head buried into the crook of his shoulder. Getting comfortable he wrapped his arms around her. It took all his willpower to keep his hormones under control. His member twitched at feeling her pressed firmly against him. He had no right to try anything, not with her. Guilt was a feeling he didn’t like and now he was consumed with it. All the nasty things he’d said to her. She hadn’t wanted to sleep with him. But had done so to spare his life. It had caused her pain, he had hurt her. “Why did you do it?”
She stiffened against him, knowing what he was referring to. What could she say? Why would he ask now? It was in the past for them both. He’d accepted the child she’d carried in secret. Did her reasons matter? If he wanted the truth she wouldn’t lie to him. “I didn’t want you to die. I was at a loss on what to do. All I knew was that you would die if I didn’t do it. That’s all I needed to know.”
“You should have left me to die then. It shouldn’t have happened. I highly doubt you wanted your first time to be with a man that had no idea as to what was taking place. My body may have responded naturally but my mind was unattached, so were my feelings. I would never have taken you in such a manner. Don’t tell me you don’t regret it. I saw the remorse and pain in your eyes. My very existence is forbidden, why would you consider doing so foolish as to impregnate yourself with my seed?”
“Is it? What makes you think you shouldn’t exist? Because some dried up old hag believes it? She was probably just jealous because your mother found love in the arms of a man when she never has. So what if your mother loved someone of the opposite sex. It’s done all the time elsewhere. Your mother carried you and Yukina during her pregnancy out of love. If she loved you enough to do so then you earned the right to exist. That crusty old hag just needs her ass kicked. Call yourself what you want, it makes no difference to me. I didn’t care for the pain but I don’t regret doing it. I’d do it again if given the chance. I put myself in that position and then carried your child out of love. You don’t have to understand it, or accept it. The simple truth is that I love you and didn’t want to lose you. If you don’t like that answer then you can go wait outside.”
“I will not. I’m comfortable where I am. Your answer is acceptable, a little foolish but I’ll take it.” His eyes roamed over her titled face. He couldn’t explain his own feelings. He knew he didn’t want to lose her either. She meant a great deal to him. Half the time he wanted to choke her, the other half he wanted to hold her. Expressing feelings was something he was no good at. “Next time make sure I am coherent so we both can enjoy it.”
Next time? Did that mean what she thought? Surely he was being sarcastic and hadn’t meant to imply anything by those words. She couldn’t move as she gazed up at him. Did she want it to happen? He’d stated many times that he wouldn’t want her. Lead filled her chest when her body responded. He didn’t mean it, that was his way of apologizing, nothing more. He might forgive her for the past but didn’t change his feelings for her. She was still nothing more than a nuisance that came around. It was hopeless to believe he’d ever want her in return. She’d been able to produce an erection the first time because his body had been demanding release. Any female would have done. Now that he was in full control, his lust wouldn’t be stirred. The other man that had taken her had also been out of his mind, crazed by alcohol. Hot emotions swirled in those dark red depths. Unable to contain her tears she lowered her head.
He felt like he’d been punched in the chest. The scent of her tears surrounded him. Had she taken it the wrong way? In a way he meant it, he wanted the next time to be enjoyable for them both. But wouldn’t that mean more to them if it were to happen. If he took her, was he ready to get involved with another person? Years had gone by and he hadn’t found another lover. His body had ached for release but it had been denied. His mind and heart had craved to get closer to one female. Would she accept him now after everything that had passed between them? He’d been an ass for so long, pushing her away. The same as he’d done with Yukina. Still this woman had risked much for him, she loved his child despite it all. His hand cupped her chin, forcing her to look at him. “Crying doesn’t suit you. You say you love me but is it enough to look past what I am and what I have done? Would you be willing to be with me, despite it being forbidden? My mother’s people will not care for it. Koenma will most likely have a problem with losing his assistant. Are you willing to deal with all that, if I asked for a chance?”
“Yes,” it was the only answer she knew. She’d give up everything for that chance. The chance to know him, to get closer. To know what it was really like to be with him. To finally experience being with a man that she loved. To enjoy his touch, to savor every moment. His lips found hers and she responded.
It had the same effect as their other kiss. He felt it everywhere as she brushed her own tongue to caress his. His member twitched between them, blood flowing to harden the shaft. Her hands remained around his neck as his hands stroked the expanse of her back. Each movement was perfectly time, giving her the time needed to accept him. As much as he wanted to find the warm heat that only she could provide, he didn’t want to cause her any pain. He also didn’t want to rush it.
Botan let herself get in the sensations. His touch was making her flesh come alive. With he was stirring the passion long buried, it was having a calming effect on her soul. At the tips of each finger she felt the care. He may not love her yet but he cared. It was enough for her, she needed him. Only the smallest amount of fear remained as he switched their positions. He was hovering over her, his smaller form almost intimidating. Scarlet orbs focused on her own, she could see the reassurance and promise. He wouldn’t hurt her.
He reached between them, gliding his hand slowly down the creamy expanse of her stomach. The legs moved to hug his hips, trying to close. He placed a soft kiss on her parted mouth, easing her worry. The first touch was light, a butterfly touch over the delicate folds. He waited for her reaction before continuing. As the thighs relaxed, he tested the waters. The digit slipped inside to find her wet and hot. Withdrawing, he replaced it with his member.
Botan tensed feeling him brushing across her opening. A hand cupped her cheek, pulling her face closer to his kiss. She willed herself to relax as he began to push forward. The feel of him filling her was exquisite. Unlike the other times her body welcomed the intrusion. The muscles gave way, only to wrap tightly around him. She moaned as he began to move. The strokes were slow and steady, allowing her to adjust.
Hiei felt the heat consume him as she began to move under him. She fit him like a glove. He wasn’t surprised that he’d reacted to her last time. Even self consciously his body had enjoyed the feel of being embedded inside her body. Her arms wrapped around his back, pulling him in a tight embrace. He felt his release building as she began to tighten around him. Several minutes passed before he picked up his speed, keeping it steady. His eyes remained on her face, before increasing. A look of complete bliss crossed her features as she began to shake. The orgasm pulled at his member urging him to join her. With a few final thrusts, he let it take him. His face buried in her neck as he panted. “When we get back, you are to tell Koenma you quit.”
Botan laughed and inhaled the strong scent of wood that cloaked his hair. Running her fingers through the thick mass she smiled. She’d have some explaining to do but she’d meant what she said. She was willing to give it all up. “How much time do you think we have before we go back?”

Yusuke punched the man again for good measure. He collapsed in a heap at their feet. Koenma helped to retrieve the two gems the man had dropped. The bastard still hadn’t answered his questions. What the hell had he done with Hiei and Botan? They’d been missing for hours. As the battered man groaned a blue light appeared above them. “What the hell?”
“There we go, they should be arriving any second now. Just as I suspected he captured them. If they survived whatever it was then they will come back.” Soku smiled seeing the two forms dropping from the space. The little hybrid landed without a sound, the girl tucked firmly in his arms. She wasn’t in her kimono but wrapped in the man’s cloak. “Well, now that raises an eyebrow.”
“Shut up before I remove your voice box.” Hiei tightened his hold as the girl shifted in her slumber but didn’t wake. It had taken them long enough to waste the bastard. He almost blushed, twenty minutes earlier they’d have interrupted something personal. Even if Kurama was well aware of most, he didn’t think he wanted them to witness such an intimate act. The girl would have no doubt of how much he wanted her now. “Remove your eyes or they will follow.”
“Oh, now that’s wrong. Here we are fighting to save your ass and you are getting lucky.” Yusuke laughed when the man actually blushed. That was well worth the hassle. It was about time the man pulled his head out his ass. “Now you can stop being a jerk. You two make a cute couple.”
“You are pushing your luck Detective. Be thankful I have no wish to drop her or I’d silence you.” Hiei wondered if he could manage to kick the man without disturbing the girl. It was worth a try at any rate. Kurama began to laugh and Koenma groaned. “When you are finished, we will be at Genkai’s.”

~~~~~~~~
Kurama stopped Mukuro as they landed on the retched isle. He could sense Botan not far away. Yusuke took off running towards the tower fearful for their friend. The ferry girl had said he was in bad shape. The former king scowled as the elderly woman came out of the main building looking smug and too happy with herself. “What have you done with Hiei?”
“I have done nothing to that wretched creature. I didn’t have to, I simply let nature take it’s course. He will learn that nature has a way of fixing it’s mistakes. Shame he didn’t take completely after that bastard that sired him. To be cursed with the body of a koorime while being a male. I simply refused him an outlet, that is all. It was time for his cycle to reproduce. Our kind have no choice in the matter, it is a part of life. Being male at the last stage his body would have looked for a female in which to carry his disgusting seed. Not having one the child will do the unthinkable and implant itself in his body. Within weeks his body will start to fail and he will die a horrible death. You may take him if you wish but you have come too late.” She smirked at the half metal female. “I also know all about your technology, that will not save him. Once the seed has been planted it will bond with his own energy. To try and remove it will kill them both instantly. Hiei is doomed, so take his corpse if you wish, I have won.”
Mukuro grabbed the old lady by the throat. Glee filled her as the thick throat began to crush beneath her finger tips. This was the old bitch that had tossed him aside for no reason except to be born. She would take great pleasure in ending her miserable life. “You will die.”
“Release her,” Hiei took a deep breath as Yusuke shifted his position. His vision was blurred but he could barely make out the two forms. The truth didn’t shock him but he’d accept it. “Let that bitch think she won if she wants. I’ve felt the desire to find a mate for days. She did nothing, even if she thinks so. I wouldn’t have found myself a female. Simply because I refuse to reproduce any children. I prefer to die than to bring a child so it can share my wretched fate. All she managed to do was make me feel like shit. If what she says is true then I will accept it and die with honor. I didn’t find myself a mate because I want no child. I’d rather kill the child than let it be born with me as the father.”
“Hiei?” Kurama frowned at the words, surely the man didn’t mean them. As he finally collapsed against Yusuke there was acceptance on his face. Did the man really want to die? Would having a child be that bad for him? Just because he’d been discarded didn’t mean any child he produced would be. “Very well, you heard him. Let’s get out of here.”
“Yeah, I’ll go inform Koenma and head on back.” Botan stammered and brought her oar forth. The need to get out of there was strong. Could he really mean that? Had he been prepared to die before siring a child? He said he’d kill the child also. Panic filled her, she’d made a mistake. Oooh, just like her luck. She’d done it and now he wanted to die. What a moron! What was going to happen in a few weeks when the stubborn jackass didn’t keel over? Would anyone figure it out? What was she to do? Even if the man had lain there without moving his body had reacted to her touch. It had been painful on her part but she’d endured it to save him. Having to sit down on his member and move to get him to blow his load hadn’t been the jolliest thing to do. There was no going back for her now, she’d felt the energy as it entered her womb. Hiei’s child had rushed from his body sensing a host.
Someone should smack that ungrateful prick. She jumped on the wooden transport and ignored the slight pain. As disturbing as the thought was she should have spit on it to help the ordeal. The man hadn’t helped either. The koorime hadn’t been lying when she said his body would react to it. His hips had lifted before she’d been prepared. The stabbing pain of him entering her untried body wasn’t something she’d likely forget anytime soon. What could she do now? Hiei would live, that was the important thing. Though he’d likely kill her for fucking him while he was out of it. Not to mention the child he didn’t want. “I’ll keep in touch.”
~~~~~~~~
~~~~Five Years Later~~~~
Kuwabara spotted the two men leaning against the building, both looking too damn smug. This was the last time they treated him like an idiot. Did they think he was stupid? Once again they were keeping secrets from him. Just because he’d been away at college didn’t mean they had to shut him out. Dammit he was still part of the team. Yusuke and Kurama glanced up and smiled seeing him walking over. As soon as he stopped next to them he let them have it. “Dammit, I am so sick and tired of you two doing this. Every time something important happens you leave me out. What you don’t think I’m smart enough to handle it. Look, if we are going to continue being friends then you can’t leave me out of the loop. Don’t look at me like that, I saw her. Try to fool the Mighty Kuwabara. I’m smart, I can put two and two together.”
“Calm down Kuwabara.” Yusuke held up his hands waving the man off. What the hell was he blabbering about now? Figures he was gone for a few years to college and come back acting like an ass. He hadn’t been home for a week and was demanding shit. Was he upset over Yukina? No one had seen the girl in years but all knew she was at Genkai’s after having her own child. Him and Kurama both had been too busy to head on up there and visit. Not like Grandma wanted to see either one of them. When she did she’d come into town and stop by their business. Him and Kurama had gone into business together opening up a restaurant. It was doing great, so they hadn’t had time in the last five years to do anything but work. Keiko had gone up there a few times to visit Yukina but hadn’t reported anything strange. No one had seen Hiei either for that matter. Five months after his brush with death the man became a hermit in Mukuro’s moving fortress. The man refused to even visit his sister. He’d come one time when Yukina was barely showing. Yusuke wondered if seeing his sister carrying a child had effecting him, if only a little. The old woman had been wrong and Hiei hadn’t died. Kurama suggested that Hiei’s body had destroyed the seed instead of allowing it to attach itself since he wasn’t fully koorime.
“Don’t tell me to calm down dammit. When were you guys going to tell me? Think I wouldn’t notice or was you hoping I’d went blind while away? I even confronted Yukina about it and she wouldn’t talk to me. Dammit, now I want the truth.” He grabbed Urameshi by his shirt collar and screamed. “I thought it was strange that the shrimp suddenly took off. You guys didn’t stop him either.”
“What the hell are you talking about?” Did the man finally realize that Hiei was Yukina’s sibling? That wouldn’t explain his anger. Then again it might, since he felt left out sometimes. He’d known Yukina would have a child so what was his deal? Yusuke shrugged as Kurama looked at him just as lost.
“Tell us what you are talking about. I’m afraid we are just as confused as you at the moment. You’ve caught us by surprise. Take a deep breath and explain yourself then maybe we can answer your question. What happened with Yukina?” Kurama was having the same thoughts as Yusuke. Had the man figured out the relationship between the two finally?
“I’m talking about that kid. I went up there to visit Yukina. I saw her outside, she was playing with her daughter. Even as I rushed to go greet them I was attacked by some little brat. Why didn’t you two tell me Botan had a kid? After it ran off, she came out and it called her Momma.” Kuwabara saw both of their faces go pale and mouths dropped open in shock. Wait a minute, “You guys didn’t know did you? You mean I’m the first person to see it?”
“Are you sure you saw her with a child?” Kurama was shocked to hear him say it. Everyone knew Yukina had given birth to a daughter. None of them had been seen since the day they’d found Hiei. When had she gotten pregnant. “What exactly did you see?”
“What do you think I saw. Like I said I was attacked by a kid. I swear it looked just like that little shrimp except it was a girl and hadn’t reached three feet yet. Oh and it had long hair and some manners because she apologized about kicking me in the sack. I’m telling you that Botan and Hiei did the nasty.” He screamed as Yusuke snatched him up and screamed.
“Are you sure that’s what you saw? Tell me you are kidding Kuwabara.” Yusuke didn’t want to believe it. The hybrid hadn’t stepped foot back into the Ningenkai. If the child was old enough to try attacking someone it had to be a decent age. Is that why Genkai told them she’d visit them instead of them having to travel all the way to the middle of nowhere?
“Yusuke, I’m going. It seems Kuwabara wasn’t the only one being left in the dark this time. I’m afraid Genkai and the others have been hiding something.” He hoped they were wrong. Was it possible that the ferry girl had interfered that day? She was known to do foolish things but would she do something so drastic to spare Hiei’s life? The man was alive today because the child hadn’t taken root. Perhaps it had but in another host. She’d left quickly that day, not staying to see if the man died afterwards. “That’s why she left so quick that day, she knew he wasn’t going to die.”
“What the hell was she thinking? Hiei’s going to be pissed when he finds out. Not to mention I’m going to shake some sense in her.” Yusuke left his friend standing there with a gaping mouth as he followed the kitsune. Both needed to know the truth before deciding what to do.
~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~
Botan laughed as the two girl’s bickered over who’s flower was prettier. A cool wind picked up sending her hair to the side. Days like this she thought of cutting it but Yukina would have a fit if she mentioned it. Mirth filled her as they scrambled to find more. The field had blossomed in the last week. Soon Yukina would be coming to join them. Genkai had left this morning to head into town to do some shopping.
“Don’t go far you two.” Smiling she watched her own daughter run ahead leaving the other girl in the dust. Deep down she knew the child had no biological attachment to her. But she’d fallen in love with the child seeing that adorable face the first time. Hina looked exactly like her father except she was female and beautiful. As expected of being born from Hiei, the child was extremely powerful at a young age. Genkai had taken it upon herself to train the girl. Days like this she wished Hiei had wanted a child. The small girl was a priceless treasure, one meant to be cherished.
Glancing over she thought she heard footsteps. The door to the temple was still shut, Yukina had yet to come out. A tingling sensation went down her spine as a twig snapped behind her. Panic filled her as she spun around. The short man didn’t look too happy to see her. He looked down right pissed, she saw her death being played out in those narrow orbs. Her breath caught wondering why he was there. Had he come to see Yukina? That had to be it, he didn’t know about the child. Taking a step back she asked, “What are you doing here Hiei?”
He ignored the question and looked the woman over. She looked different from the last time he’d seen her. It was the first time he’d seen her with her hair down. Her face looked more mature and her body had filled out. Or had it always been that way and he hadn’t bothered to pay attention before? His body responded as his eyes landed on the curve of her breast. The material clung to them, leaving nothing to the imagination. She was nervously chewing on her bottom lip as he stared. Laughter got his attention suddenly. The woman gasped in fear as his eyes sought them out. Two children were playing behind her, one looked exactly like his twin sister. Pain filled his chest as the second child turned in their direction. “You bitch!”
Botan saw him take a step closer, his attention on the little girl. Fear made her react as he took another step. Anger filled his eyes as he sneered at the little ones. She screamed for Yukina as she summoned the only weapon on hand. The oar made a terrible threat but she swung it at the man with all the strength she had. She wouldn’t allow him to harm her child. A tight grip grasped the wooden contraption before it could make a solid impact.
Hiei wanted to smack her for attacking him. What was she thinking? As it landed in his hand, he decided to get rid of it. With a flick of his wrist he threw it towards the temple. His eyes widened when the ferry girl refused to let go of the pathetic weapon. The force in which he’d thrown it made the foolish woman go with it. Before he could correct the mistake and catch her a fist landed into his right cheek. Pain filled his head as he staggered back a few feet. As his eyes focused the sound of something solid hitting the wooden frame was heard. “Dammit.”
“You hurt Mommy.” Hiei felt his jaw drop as a blast slammed into his chest as the child screamed at him. What the hell was the brat doing? It wasn’t enough to do serious harm but irritated him just the same. The small child stood defiantly before him. Scarlet eyes filled with anger to match his own bore down on him. A few tears were streaming down her face but the kid held her ground. He felt his own anger increase as the brat went to attack again.
“Brother DON’T!” Yukina screamed without thinking. Her heart was frozen with her body as the man remained motionless as the child tried to hit him again. Instead of striking back, he dodged the attacks. She sighed in relief and ran to the prone form of Botan. What had happened? She couldn’t believe that her brother had attacked her friend. “Hina, stop and see to your mother.”
Hiei watched as the child landed a few feet from him. Before running off she stuck her tongue out at him. As the child went to sit by the ferry girl, Yukina left her side. He wasn’t sure what to say to either of them. His own child had just attacked him. His mind was slow to respond and register what she’d said. Yukina had called him brother. Had the wench told her of their relationship? Yet another reason to make her suffer later. “It was an accident.”
“I’m sure you didn’t mean to hurt Botan. She’ll be just fine when she wakes up. You haven’t came to see me in years so I assume you came because you found out about Hina.” She smiled seeing the color drain from his face. Did he think she was that naive? While Botan was scared of him she was not. He wouldn’t hurt any of them, especially his own child. “Come, we will go talk.”
~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~
“You okay?” Yukina finished up the dishes as Botan sat at the table. The girl had her head resting on the wood as if in a deep sleep. She knew the girl was awake by the rapid breathing. What was going on between those two. Since the girl’s date last week she’d been silent and depressed, so unlike Botan.
Botan lifted her head off the table and made a decision. Maybe Hiei had a right to be angry. She hadn’t given him an option that day. He hadn’t wanted a child but she’d made it for him. Instead of trying to wake him and see what he wished to do she’d took matters into her own hands. He seemed to love Hina but it meant his life was forever changed. He had to feel defiled knowing she’d had sex with him like that. Maybe she’d been looking at everything the wrong way. Would he accept her apology and explanation if she tried? She wouldn’t know unless she went to him. It couldn’t hurt to try. She cared about him, always had. She loved him and hadn’t wanted to lose him like that.
She told Yukina she was going outside, knowing he was out there with the girls. Yukina asked if she’d call them in for lunch. Nodding she opened the door and called their names. The three looked up as she stepped off the porch. To make sure he didn’t run, she made eye contact. And let him see that she was coming. Both girls ran past her happily, ready to eat. She was doing the right thing, wasn’t she? If he knew how she felt and why, maybe he wouldn’t hate her so much. She’d given him a beautiful child, something special. “Hiei, can we talk?”
“Why bother? I have nothing to say to you.” He wanted to toss her on the ground and taste those trembling lips. To see if she felt as good as the dreams he’d been having. To know what it would be like to experience her embrace. He envied his own child when he saw the girl pick her up and wrap those slender arms around the child. He was being foolish, it made him angry. She’d only fucked him to do her job and that had been to save his miserable life.
“Dammit, you will let me speak.” She stopped in front of him placing her hands on her hips. She’d fought all morning to get up the courage to speak to him. Now that she was here he’d listen if she had to tie him down. It didn’t matter if he didn’t like her, she cared about him. “I know you don’t like me and you have your reasons. I understand them and accept it. I know soon you will be going on about your life and will most likely take Hina with you. I don’t regret what I did. Sorry if that makes you angry. I was told you were going to die if it wasn’t done. You were laying there in pain and I wanted to make it stop. Even knowing you wouldn’t otherwise wish to touch me I did what I had to. It had nothing to do with what was right or wrong, or doing what others would expect of me. I couldn’t stand the thought of losing you, isn’t that enough? Despite what you think I did not enjoy it. I never wished my first time to be with an unconscious man that hates me. I hid her from you because of what you said. I didn’t want anything to happen to her. No matter what the circumstances of her birth she was a wonderful person and deserves to be love. I carried her for nine months and have cared for her for over five years. I didn’t do it out of pity or guilt, I did it because she was yours. You don’t have to like me or even give a shit about what I’m saying. I just came to apologize about the way everything happened. I care about you even though you are an asshole and are rude to me.” She paused in her speech and almost toppled over. The bastard was looking off into the distance, he wasn’t even paying attention to her. Here she was pouring her heart out and he was ignoring her once again. Well, she’d see about that. Taking a deep breath she threw her arms around his neck. His head turned in surprise as she leaned forward. His body stiffened as she placed her mouth firmly over his.
He felt the heat rush to his lower region at the soft pressure. The lips were sweet and smooth as they ghosted over his own. Just as she was about to pull away, his arms moved. They locked around her waist pulling her against his body. His mind raced as his body flared to life. She fit perfectly against him. Everything focused on the contact, his soul cried out for more. The lips parted allowing him entrance. His tongue shot forward seeking the inner warmth. It was welcomed as she opened wider, letting him taste every corner. He lost all coherent thought as she lifted her own muscle to brush across his own. The kiss was timid and shy but excited him to no end. She had no idea how much he wanted her. He snatched his mouth away to look up into her wide eyes. They were filled with a strong emotion and glazed over. This couldn’t be happening, she wasn’t going to use him to prove a point. His hands pushed her back and she stumbled back in shock. “Don’t come near me again. Why bother apologizing about taking advantage of me when you are going to try to do it again? If you know I can’t stand you then don’t go throwing yourself at me. I don’t plan on getting drugged or knocked out anytime soon, so don’t waste your time.”
Botan turned on her heels and ran as fast as she could. Tears stung as she cleared the many steps. The passing traffic went ignored. The only thing she wanted was to get away from it all. She’d been stupid to think he’d care about what she had to say. He didn’t care about her at all. What had she been wanting to accomplish by kissing him? Except to make him mad, she’d done nothing but prove that she was pathetic. Bad enough she admitted to caring about him but now he knew that she wanted him.
A car honked at her as she felt her legs wanting to give out. How long had she ran? A payphone was near a bench. Walking over she dialed a number and waited for Hiroshi to answer. The man agreed to come pick her up. She walked to take a seat and wait. She was fooling herself to think he’d ever want anything to do with her. Why couldn’t she be happy with what she had? As she pondered the question a car pulled up at the curb. The large man exited the vehicle to stand in front of her. Ironic the one man that wanted her was unlike the one she loved.
While Hiei was only four foot eleven, Hiroshi was well over six foot. Hiei’s body was nice and toned, every muscle sculptured perfectly, he was small but in excellent shape. Hiroshi had short brown hair that he kept trimmed with soft brown eyes. He was more than well built, his body was much like Kuwabara’s from working in construction for many years. In some ways he was like her Hiei but nothing about him was right. He just wasn’t the man she wanted, the man she’d never have.
She didn’t protest as he drove to his house. She just wanted to get away and not think about it. The man didn’t speak to her which was fine. He was the only one she had to call. His eyes narrowed as she wiped a stray tear from her face. Seeing the lights of his home she undid her seatbelt. Like normal he opened the door for her and helped her out the car.
Botan let him lead her into the house without thinking on it. Only one light was lit so she could see. Taking off her shoes they were placed by the doors. His home was rather nice for a single male. Everything was neatly placed and clean. As she roamed around the living room he walked into the kitchen. Her mind didn’t want to think about what had just taken place. Dusk was falling outside as she looked out the sliding glass doors. The view was beautiful, the moon full and bright. Her heart twitched, a moon made for lovers.
A glass of wine was placed in her hand. It was accepted but she didn’t think she could swallow it. The setting was perfect but she couldn’t feel herself getting into it. His arms wrapped around her waist and pulled her against his hard chest. As much as she wished she could love him she couldn’t. Her heart had been lost years ago. “I think I should go home.”
“Don’t leave yet,” He took the glass out of her hand. Seeing her stiffen he placed a hand under her chin. He brought her lips up to meet his. He’d waited so long to get her alone, in order to get somewhere. She’d called him for a reason. Why else would she want him to come pick her up? She wanted him as much as he wanted her. Tonight would be the night he’d claim her.
Botan tasted the strong lingering bitterness of alcohol. Had he been drinking when she’d called him. Coming here was a mistake obviously. She didn’t want some man trying to seduce her, she needed someone to hold her as she had a long overdue pity party. His hand ran under the edge of her shirt. Her hand pushed against his chest as it cupped her left breast. The feeling was wrong and she wanted it to stop. This wasn’t what she wanted. “Stop, I can’t.”
“Why not? We’ve been dating for a year. It’s about time you forgot about him, he doesn’t love you the way I do.” He latched onto her mouth feeling her stiffen. She didn’t resist as he forced his tongue between her parted lips. His fingers squeezed her nipple causing her to jerk.
Botan almost screamed at the harsh treatment. A hand was going for the strings holding her sweats up. She hadn’t bothered dressing up just to go outside to talk to Hiei. The string came undone and he shoved his hand down the front of the pants. As soon as he cupped her center she began to panic. She couldn’t allow this to happen. He might be right and Hiei would never love her but she couldn’t see herself sleeping with anyone else. Her hands pushed at the heavy chest but he didn’t release her. The rough finger was forcing itself beneath her panty line. Anger filled her as he tried to push it into her dry passage. She brought her hand down across his face, “I said stop.”
The side of her face exploded as he backhanded her. She stumbled back but she had his attention now. Anger grazed his features as they both rubbed their tender cheeks. She couldn’t believe he’d hit her like that. Rough hands grabbed her around the waist, he was trying to pick her up. Her struggles intensified as her feet left the floor. He ignored the fists that pounded on his chest as he tried to carry her towards the bedroom. Taking careful aim she brought the balled up hand across his nose. As he released her she brought her knee up. The horrid sound almost made her smile as he grunted in pain.
Blood flowed freely down his chin as he drew his fist back. Botan didn’t have time to gloat as it crashed into her jaw. She felt it snap painfully as she crashed into the kitchen table. She toppled over the wood, it cracked from her weight. Dishes fell to the floor as weak knees tried to support her trembling form. The corner of her mouth was forcing blood to course down her chin. Wiping it on the back of her hand, she grabbed the first dish she could find. He was getting to his feet when the first cracked across his scalp. She swore at him as he swatted the next away. It crashed against the far wall. Her eyes widened when he charged her, “Shit.”
The broad shoulder caught her in the stomach and he took her down. The hard tile slammed into her back, her head banged against the floor. Pain washed over her as she fought to breath. Something had cracked as he slammed into her with all his weight. The bastard wasn’t a youkai but was proving to be stronger than she was. His hands worked on pulling the pants down as she moaned. Her hand went to the back of her head that wouldn’t stop throbbing. Hot sticky fluid coated her fingers as his hands tore at the seams of her panties. Realizing just what he was doing she slapped at the offending hands. “Get off me!”
The horrible scent of beer filled her nostrils as he hovered over her. Her hands were grabbed to be pinned over her head. She screamed as he tried to kiss her, the smell making her stomach pitch. No wonder the kick to his groin hadn’t stunned him, the fucker hadn’t even felt it. She tried to kick with her legs but his knees pushed them apart. His free hand was undoing his zipper. The image of his face blurred and began to spin as his tip was placed against her entrance. “Don’t, please don’t.”
The plea went ignored and she began to sob. With a quick thrust, scorching heat filled her center. The pain was too intense for her to remain still. She thrashed on the floor, her hips moving trying to dislodge him. The free hand grabbed a handful of bangs. The echo of cracking bones echoed in her eardrums as he slammed her head into the already bloodstained floor. She gasped past the pain, not wanting to pass out. The hand released her tender scalp to grab her leg. It lifted her leg up, bending the knee. The next thrust made her cry, overriding the pain in her head. “HIEI!”
“Bitch, you’ll be forgetting about him soon enough.” She tried not to listen to the boast. His words made her want to give up as he pushed deeper into her sore body. His grunts of pleasure seemed to flow with the throbbing in her head. The feel of him tearing her soon became numb as she closed her eyes. Every bone in her body felt busted along with every nerve. The expanse of her middle was ablaze from his thrusts. There didn’t seem to be an end to it. He began sweating as he exerted himself. She wasn’t sure how long he’d been going at it but she began to feel cold.
She wasn’t sure how much more she could take before she succumbed to the darkness. Just as she was ready to give in he groaned and his head fell upon her chest. Seconds past but he didn’t move. His member was still hard and buried inside her body. Her hands went to his shoulders to push. When he didn’t move, she gave a firm push and he rolled over. She thanked whomever was watching over her as he grumbled but didn’t wake up. She winced as the thick member withdrew but was also relieved. Dizziness filled her as she crawled to get her pants. Blood was covering her thighs but she didn’t want to take the time to clean it. Pulling the cotton pants on she managed to stumble to her feet.
As she pulled the door open, she began to cry. Unsure of where to go, she didn’t want to head home. He’d be there and she didn’t want to face him; not now. Pain twisted in her sides to make the angry throbbing between her legs to react. Looking down the street she began to run. Shizuru didn’t leave that far, only two streets down. The going was slow and painful but the familiar door greeted her like a lost friend. Seeing the woman’s car in the driveway made her almost cry in happiness. Her fists began to bang on the door, the sound was weak but she felt her knees finally give out.
Her back slid across the door as her fist hit the wood one last time. She didn’t have the strength to call out. Would the woman even hear it? Or would she die on the Kuwabara doorstep? It would suck if it happened, they’d freak finding her corpse meeting them in the morning. Taking a deep breath she placed her head against the door. “Hiei.”
~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~
Botan steered the oar to the right searching for the blasted soul. Just her luck, of all the souls she’d been sent to collect hers would vanish. Placing a hand over her eyes, she scanned the area. Many people roamed the area but no loose soul. She had already left his bedside, so it wasn’t there. This was the second one this week. Koenma was going to kill her if she kept losing her jobs. He hadn’t wanted her to come back to work this soon.
After recovering from her ordeal, she’d left Genkai’s. It meant saying goodbye to Hina but it was for the best. Four months had passed since she’d returned to work but she visited the girl once a week. Hiei hadn’t been there that she knew. The fire apparition was leaving the child with Yukina for now and visited just as she did but more regularly. She wasn’t fragile or delicate, she’d pulled through it all. No one would tell her what had become of the man that had attacked her. When she asked Yusuke one day all he said was she’d sleep better if she didn’t know. What had those two done?
Her feelings hadn’t changed but she had more resolve. She’d done what she could back then. She’d saved his life by carrying his child. He could be upset and hate her until the end of time but she’d do it again if given the chance. He meant more to her than he’d ever know. So did Hina, she loved the child. Being away from the little girl was painful but had to be done.
“Bingo!” She sent the oar down when she spotted the soul floating not far from her current position. Why had he come all the way out here? The man had been trapped under a fallen building and had taken several days to finally pass away. A horrible way to pass on. As she got closer uncertainty filled her. The man turned on her and she braked to a halt. His eyes weren’t right, they were burning a bright red. He’d been a human, this wasn’t right.
“Woah,” She lifted herself into the air as he ran for her. Long claws extended out of deformed hands. What the hell? It was definitely her soul she’d been sent to retrieve. The departed man was growling fiercely at her, “Well, that’s not a jolly thing to do.”
Grabbing her intercom she buzzed Koenma. When his face popped on the screen he didn’t look to pleased. “Koenma sir, Botan here. I’m having a bit of a problem. I’ve found Mr. Dakali but he’s a tad rabid I’m afraid. I don’t know how to get him. He tried to attack me.”
“Yes, you aren’t the only girl having that problem. Natsumi and Aiko just called, their souls are in the same state. Keep your distance but watch him. Don’t let him get to you Botan, that is an order. I’ll get someone on the case right away. Do what you can till then, I’ve called all the other girls in. Koenma, out.”
“Oh poopie, this can’t be good. Now where did he go?” She screamed and had to quickly dodge backwards. The man was giving chase. Follow him indeed, he was coming at her in a blind rage. Koenma better hurry and do something before she got ripped to shreds. Why was she the one to try and handle it until someone else came? Blasted toddler was going to get her killed. She couldn’t take the man into Reikai in his current state. Who knew what was wrong with him, he might be carrying an infliction. “Great, now what am I supposed to do?”
Koenma cleared his throat and stood before the small group. He ignored the small girl that was blushing up at him. Tiny hands were playing with the seams of his pants. The child was cute but now wasn’t the time to play or get acquainted. The one Botan had carried was sleeping peacefully on her father’s chest. It almost knocked him over to see the man being so attentive to another living being. Maybe Botan had saw something in him that he couldn’t. The man wasn’t all that bad but he’d wouldn’t have a child for him. “Now, I’ve gotten reports of souls running loose. A few of my girls have gone after the departed souls after death. Just this morning the souls have become demented and gone on a rampage. Most humans don’t know what is happening. Will most likely blame it on ghosts or natural causes. There are five that we know of, four which are doing no more than wreaking havoc. I’m afraid the fifth is another story, he is crazed.” He paused as his communicator went off. “Koenma here.”
“Koenma sir, I don’t want to be a bother but things aren’t looking to good. Mr. Dakali just attacked a human and I’m afraid I have horrible news. The human female has become infected also on a massive level. The woman is attacking an innocent passer-by as we speak. What do you want me to do?” Botan’s worried face appeared.
“Don’t engage them, I don’t need you getting infected as well. I’m forming the team as we speak. Move your ass to safety until they get there.” Koenma snapped the compact shut. This was an unexpected turn of events. “As you heard things have just gotten serious. I need you to investigate this matter for me. My father has been training a new detective but I’m afraid he’s not up to par yet. I’m going to ask you guys to handle this for me. The infection will spread like a bad plague if it’s not contained.”
Botan sighed and moved aside from the man. He was still being piss poor company. Why was she having to trail him? He snarled and found another unaware victim. “Hey you stop that already, they can’t even see you.”
Instead of listening it tore into the teenage boys without mercy. There was no actually wounds to appear but the damage was done. Botan could see the infection appear like a green mist cloaking the men. It would have to feel like being attacked by a bad dream before they went ballistic as well. A shiver went down her spine suddenly. The feeling of being watched made her glance up. Standing on a building to her left, someone was watching the carnage as well. The long white hair was pulled back into a bow but it was still wild and untamed. She couldn’t make out the face but it was definitely male. The large torso stood there unmoving except for a hand. Her eyes barely made out the transparent smoke he was emitting. The bastard was doing it.
Fumbling with the compact she quickly called him back. The man yelled at her when he answered, “Don’t yell at me sir. I don’t care if you are briefing them. I’ve found the source of the problem. Oops, I think he spotted me. I’ve got to go sir, this can’t be good.” She dodged the blast in time. The edge of her oar was hit but she got control before going down. That was too close. Glancing back the man was following her. His jumps were perfectly timed, staying close enough not to allow her out of sight. She wasn’t going to be able to escape.
She pulled to a halt over a building and waited for him. Either she would wait for him to stop playing or for the team to get here. Koenma would most likely get Yusuke or Kurama to come at such short notice. A bird flew overhead announcing her visitor. “Stop playing around, I know you’re there.”
“Very perceptive of you girl. I’m not surprised to find a ferry girl running around. You should tell Koenma he’s slacking in the help department. The others ran away at the first sign of trouble, pity. Mind telling me your name?” His face was well developed and masculine, the jaw square. His lips were rather large and full for a male but went with the features. Grey eyes the color of dank fog watched her curiously.
“That’s none of your business. What do you think you are doing infecting people? Are you trying to get me fired?” A slim finger pointed in his direction. She didn’t like the smile on his face. As if he found the situation funny. Well she didn’t, she was the one being forced to sit here and deal with it.
“Silly girl, if you’d have paid attention you’d know better. I merely sedated those that had been infected. I am not the cause. I was passing by and saw what was happening.”
“Passing by my merry white ass, you shot at me. Don’t try to play innocent with me. Beside you look evil and I don’t trust you. I think you are up to something. Besides making sure I have a really bad day.” Botan screamed at him, not caring if he could tear her head off easily. The man was now laughing at her, the sound echoing around them. What was so funny? As soon as Yusuke got here, he wouldn’t be laughing. The bastard was looking at her like she’d grown another head. “Stop laughing at me jerk. Fine, I’m leaving.”
“Don’t go yet, you haven’t told me your name.” He appeared behind her suddenly, a hand placed on her shoulder. Where had Koenma gotten such entertaining girl from. From what he remembered they were all dull and boring. Fear made her tremble under his touch. “Sorry, I’m not going to hurt you. I was serious, I was merely passing by and saw the disturbance. Well, I was searching for something and it brought me in this direction. That blast was only a warning, I didn’t know who you were. It wasn’t until you moved and I spotted the oar that I knew that you were with the Reikai.”
“Sure, I say you were trying to hit me and your aim just sucks.” Botan replied sarcastically. Instead of getting offended the man laughed. Did bad guys laugh like that? The sound was actually nice and heart warming.
“Forgive me, my name is Soku. I have come on the behalf of my people. One of our priceless artifacts were stolen recently and I tracked it to the Ningenkai.” He landed in front of the girl with a hand stretched out in greeting. Her weary amethyst eyes roamed over the palm like it would a vile creature. “I just want to shake your hand.”
“Oh well, I’m Botan, pilot of the River Styx and personal assistant to Prince Koenma.” She placed her hand in his. The grasp was firm but gentle as he clasped her tiny palm. The large hand was extremely soft to be on a warrior. “Let me guess this artifact can infect souls somehow and drive them to do things they normally wouldn’t do.”
“Something like that but as you see it is here. Tell me, is there a way I can contact Koenma? Would be nice to speak to Binkster again.”
She almost fell over at the nickname. Koenma would surely have a fit at being called something so horrid. “Well, actually I lost my communicator when you took a cheap shot at me. I’m afraid we’ll have to wait for them to get here. Hopefully they would have come to save me first.”
“Save you? You were never in any danger from me. Unless you suddenly start drooling at the mouth and try to attack me. Well, let me rephrase that; when you tried to do me bodily harm. How is that?” He snickered as her cheeks flamed red. “Too much?”
“You pervert. You are the last person I’d want to drool over much less attack. Too much? How about if I knock some sense into you, you nasty cretin.” She stammered at the image. Well, she never! He might be nice looking but she wasn’t that type of girl. Besides if she was going to drool over a man it wasn’t him. Blast him for even suggesting such a thing. She yelped out of surprise when he grabbed her hands, cupping them in his.
“Ah but my little angel, I’m fragile. I’ll let you abuse me as long as you promise to be gentle. Could the feared Grim Reaper be tender towards a wounded soul?” He brought the soft skin of her knuckles up to his mouth to place a chaste kiss. The girl was simply charming, was she available? He groaned as he released her. The hands fell back in her lap as he dodged the blade. The toddler never had good timing. He smirked as the blade started making hasty swings in his direction. The little shit was pushing his luck.
Botan was stunned when the man leapt back and began moving to fast for her to keep track of him. Kurama landed next to her. A concerned palm landed on her shoulder. His eyes were focused on the blurred motion not far from them.
“Are you okay?” Koenma arrived on the back of Yusuke. The sight was almost funny but she refrained from laughing. Her boss walked over to her and eyed the dispute. Yusuke went to her other side and threw his hands back and yawned. Koenma frowned, they didn’t have time for this. “Hiei, stop. We will need his help.”
“You got to be kidding me.” Hiei froze in place but kept the weapon leveled at the man. He was going to kill the bastard. Narrowing his eyes, he disliked the man already. What the hell did he think he was doing touching the girl like that? She may not be his but she didn’t need some idiot fawning all over her. If he so much as looked at her wrong, the man was going to find his dick personally handed to him.
“I am not.” Koenma bowed to the large man. Just as he’d expected when Botan had reported back the second time. Things were indeed bad if they’d sent their personal protector to retrieve the artifact. The man was annoying but would be a great asset in locating the gem. “It has been a long time Soku.”
“Too long, old friend. When did you hit puberty?” Soku laughed at the man’s expense. He’d grown taller in the last fifty years. Too many years had passed since he’d enjoyed a good debate with the ruler of the Reikai. He still couldn’t remember seeing the charming girl.
“When are you?” Koenma nodded towards his team, letting them know it was okay to stand down. He didn’t feel like putting up with the man but he would be their only chance of finding the small gem that was causing the problem. He wouldn’t allow the city to become infested with crazed people. Not to mention whomever possessed the artifact controlled the masses.
“Never, why should I bother? I see you finally found yourself a decent team. Great, they will be needed I’m afraid. I’ve been tracking him for some time. He knows I am here. When we first discovered it missing, we went to him to ask for advice only to find him gone as well. I told you he wouldn’t let it rest, you should have killed him when you had the chance.”
“So sue me, I tried to be fair. How was I to know he’d be stupid and plot revenge. I can only assume that ignorance runs in your family.” Koenma found himself suddenly in a bear hug. “Put me down you big oaf. You aren’t my type.”
“If you say so Binkster. I say there is a reason you are always sucking on that thing. Just do me a favor and give the girl some pointers, that way I won’t be disappointed later.” He winked at the bright red girl and released the demi-god. This was going to be fun if anything.
“Why you jerk. I don’t need pointers, thank you. You are a disgusting pig and I thought Chuu was bad.” Botan crossed her arms in front of her chest. Like he’d have a chance with her. The man was quickly getting on her shit list. Just because she’d never performed the act on a man didn’t mean anything. He shouldn’t even hint at such a thing.
“As amusing as this conversation is, I’d like to know what is going on.” Kurama stepped forward before everything went to hell. The two might find the reunion amusing but some of them did not. It might not bother Yusuke to hear the guy suggest that he’d be having Botan down on her knees later but he wouldn’t feel the same if it were Keiko. Hiei was more than ready to strike the man down, no matter his relationship to the Prince. He was the only one that knew the koorime well enough to understand him. The man was neck deep in denial. While his heart might deny any attachment, his instincts wouldn’t. All the man had been doing was making a pass at the ferry girl. Which is why he nor Yusuke had attacked. Only took one glance to see the girl wasn’t in any danger. Yet, it had been Hiei to attack.
“Soku is from a small clan. I believe I showed you the outlay of the Makai. The deeper you went the more powerful the youkai. Well, his clan actually dwells on one of the lower levels. Normally they are a peaceful group. Very small but docile in nature. My father is friends with the leader. Soku here is there guardian and protector. When there is a disturbance or problem he handles it. They have in their possession two deadly artifacts. Two gems, one that can heal even the deadliest of diseases. The other one born of the opposite, it can kill with just one use by destroying the soul. If the one wielding it is skilled enough it can also control souls. I assuming the one that took it was his brother, Meru.”
“Why would his brother take it? I thought you just said they were peaceful.” Yusuke asked. If this thing could shatter souls then why would the man bring it here instead of staying in the Makai? The better question is why the hell was Hiei growling? The man must have an itch in his throat.
“That might be my fault yet again. Meru was once the protector instead of Soku. Being as he had a more serious personality, they assumed he was best for the job. See the gems can only be used by one of that bloodline. So, there isn’t much threat of them being taken. Around fifty years ago someone stole them and things went bad. A man with just the tiniest amount of blood began building an army. Things went bad and Meru was almost killed. If not for Soku here showing up at the last minute and saving his life. Because of the terrible destruction caused and his failure to bring the gems back, he was demoted. He blamed it on me you see. My father’s team were the ones to retrieve it with my help. I guess he never got over the failure.”
“So we are to get it back. What the hell are we waiting for?” Yusuke shifted his feet, not liking the tension in the air. What weren’t they telling him? The two men continued to gaze at each other. Something was being omitted, “Okay, spill it.”
“He’s not going to be an easy opponent. He is stronger than Soku here. The man just won’t hand it over. The reason he went after the dead first was to let me know he was here. The sadistic bastard will have it out for me. Which is why he wanted to let the girls to find them first. His only ability isn’t the one to use the gems. He’s can create territories, alternate dimensions. His power is only so strong that the victim is only trapped for several hours. The danger lies in the world he can create. He searches his opponent to discover their one weakness or their fear. Most die before getting out. Saves him the trouble of fighting them himself.”
“Don’t lie Binkster, let’s be honest. He hates you with a passion and wants to tear you apart. I say we split into groups of two. Search for any clues to where he could be hiding, then inform the others when we know something. I’ll take the girl with me, I’ll keep her safe.”
“Like hell you will.” Hiei moved to stand between the two. If Koenma agreed to it then he’d gut him as well. The man didn’t have searching on his mind.
“I will go with you Soku. Kurama and Yusuke will go together and Hiei will tend to Botan. We will keep in constant contact with each other. If you spot him then don’t play the hero. It will take teamwork to take him down. Be on guard, I don’t want any casualties.” Koenma didn’t care if the man didn’t like the set up. There was no way he was sending him with Botan. The man was a lech on a good day. Hiei would likely try to kill him before agreeing to it.
Botan wanted to protest but was left alone with him. This wasn’t going well at all. She hadn’t wanted to team up with him. Why not Yusuke or Kurama, it was better than the one guy. Instead of having someone constantly hitting on her, she was going to be ignored. At least this way she wouldn’t get a headache. “I’ll go this way, if you wanna head down that street.”
“Don’t be stupid, we will stick together. I don’t have time to come rescue you if you get into trouble.” Hiei landed beside her and grabbed the oar. He wasn’t about to let her go off and get into trouble. She was a magnet for it. “You will stay with me.”
“Fine but you don’t have to be a jerk about. You could try asking nicely. I swear, all men are the same.” Why did they have to leave her with him? Hiei didn’t need her help. They’d be better off if she headed back to the Reikai until the mission was over. If the koorime couldn’t handle whatever popped up what the hell could she possibly do but get in the way. “Why don’t I just head back to the Reikai. That way I won’t be in your way.”
“Hn, that’s probably the dumbest thing you’ve ever said. You heard Koenma say the man was targeting his employees. What makes you think you will make it to the Reikai alive? Like I said I don’t have time to rescue you. If I have to babysit you then you will be silent and behave.”
“Listen here, I am not a child. I’ll take my chances on going back. Better than staying here listening to your crap. I would have preferred going off with the loudmouth. At least I wouldn’t have to worry about him pushing me off the nearest building.” Her nose went in the air as he bristled. She didn’t need to have him protect her. Not like he really wanted to. “I’m leaving and that’s final.”
“My my, I came all this way to say hello to my brother. Sad, I’ve come too late only to find a silly girl bickering with a child. Seems I’ve wasted my time.” The man landed on the edge of the building. He resembled Soku greatly except for his body was leaner as if starved. A twisted smile formed as he looked over at the pair. “Girl you are boring, so set in your mind. Now, you boy; you are an enigma.”
Hiei pushed the girl roughly behind him, she swore at him. A crude black cape that looked moth eaten was wrapped around the scrawny man. He was just as rough looking as his annoying brother. While the one with Koenma had a cheerful personality, nothing but hate and despair oozed from the one ten feet away. So this was the one causing the trouble. Well, he’d finish him off quickly before the others came back. “Hn, fool. Don’t think to figure me out, you will only hurt yourself.”
“Really? Even with that fake jagan you cannot hide from me. I see it all there boy. What is it you are trying to hide? What bothers you more; the pain from your abandonment or the fear of acceptance? That place holds many emotional ties to your soul. Let’s see how well you do when faced with your fears.”
Botan screamed as a large blue aura surrounded the hybrid. She watched in horror as he suddenly disappeared. His image shifted before her very eyes. Where was it taking him? Before thinking she jumped in after him. Every pore felt sharp pain as she entered the mist. “Hiei?” Air rushed past her as she fell. The tiny form of Hiei came up fast before she slammed into his back. The impact sent them both to the ground. The cold entered her skin the moment she rolled off him.
“Dammit woman, are you trying to crush me?” Hiei got to his feet getting off the frozen ground. He could no longer sense the man or anything else. Leaving the girl there muttering he quickly ran past the houses. Within seconds he was at the edge of the island. He stopped at the edge and looked down, nothingness greeted him. Koenma had said the man could throw his opponent in an alternate dimension of his own creation. He’d been stupid to think the man wouldn’t pull such a cheap trick on him and so soon. There was nothing but a light purple sky surrounding them. The only thing that he could sense moving was him and the girl. Which meant he was stuck here for a few hours or at least until Kurama killed that bastard.
Botan shivered as she looked around. Where the hell had Hiei ran off to? Looking around she recognized the place immediately, they were on the Glacier Island. Where were all the people and why did the sky look that way? She didn’t remember it being this cold either. Something blurred past her sight and she sighed in relief. Maybe Hiei was trying to figure something out. Her teeth were beginning to chatter as the snow swirled around her. Giving in she went to the nearest home. As expected there was no one inside, only emptiness. She had to get warm before she became a popsicle. Hiei might not be bothered by the cold but she was.
There was a single bed in the small place. It took some force to get the door shut with the strong wind. He could go roam if he wished. Shivering she grabbed the blanket and placed it around her shoulders. She’d heard Koenma, they were stuck here alone. Unless one of Hiei’s fears was to be chased by ice giants. Somehow she doubted it. The man had been abandoned as a child, he didn’t like being alone. He could tell himself he preferred it but it was a lie. It was just something he was use to it. She was use to bleeding every month but it didn’t mean she liked it. It was something one had to accept in order to survive. The man meant to torment him by forcing him to remain at a place he hated. No means of escaping the floating isle. Well, he could try and leave. She was going to crawl up in a corner and wait.
Hiei kicked the table in the empty house. They were truly alone in this hell hole. Why the fuck had the stupid bitch jumped in after him? Now no one knew what happened to them. It was either wait it out or jump and hope for the best. This might a different dimension but the same rules applied. If he got hurt here it was real, same if he died. Fat chance of that considering he was alone. Well, not entirely alone but he was in no danger of dying. The wind picked up as he walked outside.
His breath caught seeing the large tower to his left. That was where he’d been kept prisoner. His feet seemed to have a mind of their own. The door opened without having to use any force. It wasn’t the real thing but he felt anxiety as he walked over. Did the man mean to force him to kill the girl? Had the man sensed his remaining anger over what had happened years ago? Was he still upset over the girl doing something so intimate while he was out of it?
His jagan flared to life as the emotions surged to the surface. An image flashed in his mind and his fists clenched. He recognized Rui from his first visit. The woman was speaking to Botan explaining that he was about to die. He wanted to tell the girl to allow him to die but couldn’t speak. He watched in horror as Rui left and the remaining female stood there for several minutes before moving. Shaking fingers removed her undergarment and she crawled near him. His name passed her lips, with drooping shoulders she went to undo the twin belts that kept his pants up. Anger filled him as she yanked them down. Her head was tilted down as her hand wrapped around his erect member. Without fail she placed herself over him. He didn’t want to see this, he didn’t want to watch her fuck him.
He screamed her name as placed his shaft under her. He couldn’t see anything with her kimono being in the way. His eyes went to his own self, disbelief filled him as he finally moved. Hands wrapped around the girl’s waist as he thrust his hips up. Her cry of pain echoed the moan coming from his passive mouth. Hiei watched in disbelieve as the girl held on as he moved under her. It was over in seconds then his former self seemed to have fallen asleep. The ferry girl climbed off him, wiping away the tears that had fallen. She tore a piece the pink kimono and wiped him off. He spotted the smear of blood on his now flaccid member. The girl didn’t stop working until he was dressed again. She called Yusuke on the communicator and told them to hurry. Blue hair hid her face as she leaned over to place his head in her lap. Gentle fingers brushed along his forehead, “Please, don’t die. I don’t want to lose you.”
~~~~~~~~
