CHAPTER FOUR

"All right we'll split up into two teams. Inuyasha, Kagome, Me and Kurama will go this way. Sango, Miroku, Kuwabara, and Hiei you all go the other way." Yusuke explained.

"Wait! It's bad enough I'm stuck around so many humans, I won't be stuck with Kuwabara." Hiei narrowed his eyes at the Spirit Detective.

"Yeah like I wanna be stuck with a shrimp!" Kuwabara screamed back.

"They certainly argue a lot..." Sango whispered to the monk.

"Eh, no more than us." He sighed playing with the mayla around his kaazana.

"Fine Hiei come with us." Kagome said a little too cheerful for the fire youkai.

"Please don't talk to me, I don't know you nor do I care to." He said coldly in a way that reminded her of Sesshomaru.
//He IS a full youkai, I guess.// She nervously laughed.

"Hey, you watch how you talk to her!" Inuyasha stood protectively in front of her.

"Or else what?" he blinked calmly.

"All right, come on you guys...end of the world here..." Yusuke stood between the two sparking energies.

"Yusuke's right. Come on Hiei, try to get along." Kurama begged.

"Hnn..." was all he got, as Hiei began walking towards the way they planned.

"Please forgive him, he's not good around people." Kurama apologized to Kagome.

"Don't sweat it...you shouldn't have to apologize for him anyway." She smiled warmly.

"We'll meet up at Kaede's hut if we don't find anything before dark. If you do find something use this." Sango handed Yusuke a strange leaf wrapped in string.

"What is this?" He poked it as if it were poison.

"It's one of Shippo's warning bombs. Pull the string, it will send a signal you can't miss. We'll do the same if we find something." She smiled at his reaction.

"All right guys, stay sharp, anything can happen." Yusuke smiled at everyone, "Lets all make it back in time for dinner..." He laughed as the two groups went their separate ways.

"So...Kazuma was it?" Sango tried to break the ice.

"Yep, but everyone calls me by my last name, Kuwabara."

"I'm happy you and your friends are here. We really are in dire need of help against Naraku."

"Yeah were always savin' the world somehow...so are you two together?" He pointed and she blushed.

"Actually..." Miroku took the chance to chime in.

"Sweet! Must be nice kickin' ass with your girl!" Kuwabara laughed, before Sango whacked the monk in the head with her hiraikotsu.

"Actually, he's just an echii monk." She fumed before stomping away, smiling slightly as the thought //But you Kazuma...your not like him.// passed her mind.

Kuwabara just swallowed hard watching the monk lay face down on the ground twitching. Still not really knowing if the answer was yes or no.

"What are we looking for?" Kurama asked Inuyasha, as he seemed to be leading the way. The two had broke off from the group to be more productive.

"All I got to go on is Naraku's scent. It's the same as Kagura's and all his abominations."

"Oh, what does it smell like? Maybe I could help too..." Kurama began to smell the air.

"Hard to describe, it's like..."

"Something between rotting youkai flesh and temple inscent's...hmm, but with a far more sinister energy?" He guessed by the smell that stood out the most.

"Actually yeah..." Inuyasha smiled.

"About 500 yards that way?" The red head pointed.

"Dead on. Your all right fox!" Inuyasha smiled at him while they walked toward the scent.

"Heh..." Kurama blushed slightly.

"Do you think Kurama and Inuyasha will be okay alone?" Kagome asked Yusuke. Hiei followed a short distance behind.

"No sweat. I know Kurama will be fine, and you said Inuyasha's strong too." He tried to cheer the worried girl up. She reminded him of Keiko.

"Its faint but the sacred jewel is definitely this way..."

"You feel it, or...?"

"Well, I feel it, like a vibration in the Earth. I can see an evil aura ahead. Naraku has almost completed the jewel and its become dark because of it. But I can purify it if I can hold it."

"Sweet power..."

"Heh, yeah it's cool. Don't understand why me though."

"Yeah me to. One minute I'm a hoodlum, and now I work for Spirit World stopping demons. Don't understand it at all."

"You just have to keep going and know something intended for this all to happen. It's all for a reason."

"I guess."

"Could you two please shut up?" Hiei barked.

"Hey you, I don't know who you are, but I'm not rude to you so don't be to me!" Kagome stormed toward the tiny creature looking at her in shock.

"Your either stupid, or fearless..." Hiei warned.

"I've faced worse than you! So just be nice or else!" She screamed then continued to walk proudly away.

//This girl...//
The Koorime thought moving on as well silently.

"Wow..." Yusuke just shook his head. He expected to see the girl eaten by the Kokuryu-ha
//Maybe she scared him?//
He had to hold back his laugh, running to catch up with them.
