How's The Fish?
It feels so good to laugh. It’s been long since I last laughed. Heck I even forgot about my own heart ache for this girl. I am glad everything is well between us.
Yusuke spent a lot of his time with the gang and Botan. They were always together, joking and laughing and hanging out. He loved being with her. He can just be himself with her and the laughter! He was almost always laughing or smiling when they’re together. Even when they get into petty fights, somehow, they ended up laughing about it.
He sat with Kuwabara, Kurama, Yukina and Botan at lunch. They were all cracking jokes, the bar incident a few weeks ago clearly past behind them. He even spotted Keiko a couple of times. She gave him a small smile every time. He still hasn’t sorted out how he feels yet.
“You know, Keiko and that guy she was going out with broke up last week.” Yukina told everyone.
“Oh.” Yusuke said, his eyebrows raised. Everyone was looking at him.
“What are you going to do about it?” asked Botan nonchalantly. For some reason, the lunch she ate evaporated in her stomach. Kurama was watching her, his eyes guarded.
“I don’t know…” Yusuke answered.
“Maybe you should go and talk to her.” Yukina said.
Yusuke excused himself and left, contemplating about what he should do. The others just looked on. Botan watched his retreating back and sighed.
On the way home, Kurama walked with Botan.
“Are you okay?” he asked, concerned about the change in her mood. She was quiet.
“Hmmm… Yeah. I think my lunch didn’t quite settle with me today. Weird huh? Since I like food and all…” she gave a small laugh. Kurama just smiled at that.
“How are you holding up Kurama? Everything fine at home?” She asked, turning her lavender eyes at him.
“Yes.” He replied and gave her a smile. She’s always thinking of others, she forgets herself sometimes… Kurama thought to himself.
“Botan, do you like to go by the park and try out those boats at the lake?” Kurama asked, slightly embarrassed, his eyes looking at everything else but her.
Botan looked at him like he was out of his mind. This is so out of character of him, she thought then smiled.
“Okay.”
Kurama and Botan had fun in the lake that afternoon. The weather was nice. They fed the fish in the lake. Botan tried to splash Kurama with her oar and laughed at his expression. After trying out the ferry boats, they stopped by a vending machine to get refreshments.
“How do you feel about him, Botan?” Kurama asked out of the blue. They both watched as the cherry blossoms swayed with the light breeze that came before Botan answered.
“I don’t know. We are friends. We’re always together these past few weeks but…” She sighed.
He still loves her. She said to herself. They sat together quietly.
“A peony for your thoughts?” Kurama implored, handing her a pretty flower. She smiled at that, took the peony and looked at the setting sun.
“Kurama…” Botan started. Kurama looked at her and smiled. “Thank you.” she finished. He took her hand and they walked home.
It is not a problem. Kurama told himself.
On his way home, Kurama stopped and sensed someone watching.
“Had a lovely day, Kurama?” He looked up and saw Hiei, eyes closed, his feet dangling from a tree.
“Still sleeping in the tree?” He replied. Hiei opened his eyes and smirked.
“I saw you and Botan out there. How's the fish in the lake, Kurama?” asked Hiei. Kurama chuckled.
“Since when did you care about fish Hiei? Were you spying on us?” inquired Kurama.
“Botan is confused right now over Urameshi. You do know that right?” Hiei scolded.
“We’re friends.” Kurama said, his emerald eyes solemn. Hiei eyed the kitsune before him.
“If you hint at something sleazy between Botan and me, Hiei…” Kurama started but stopped. Hiei has fallen asleep.
We’re friends. Kurama whispered to himself.
